I love this place! So well organized, such a great variety and AMAZING customer service. We just popped by to look around and ended up going home with two wall planters and plants! Prices here are pretty reasonable in my opinion. They even had a sale on pots and you can get a pretty decent sized one for only $25. The wall planters we wanted weren't pre-drilled but they did it for us which was so nice! They also potted the plants for us too. I saw some other folks bring plants here to get repotted. This is my favorite nursery in LA! I live about 20 miles away, but it's definitely worth the drive. They have a huge selection of several kinds of plants and seeds. They have seed options that are hard to find in other stores. Any kind of garden supplies you may need, they will have it! I collect Passiflora varieties and Sally was so kind to order one that I wanted and it came so fast. Everyone there are the kindest and most knowledgeable people and they truly are plant lovers. I've never had a plant from here die and they take great care of all the plants there. They are the only nursery in the whole county that has different kinds of Passiflora in the spring and gets 2 sizes. You can't beat their prices either. read more

As we continue our journey of finding plants we can keep alive, we are learning slowly what may work and what may not work in our area/climate. One of the things we see a lot in our neighborhood are citrus trees. They thrive. I mean really thrive in our area. But we were not able to locate any citrus trees for sale for years now. Luckily for us, one of our neighbors told us about Sunset Nursery. He told us that he spotted citrus trees here recently. And lo and behold, we finally found them!! We were so excited that we grabbed a lemon tree, a lime tree, and a honey mandarin tree. Now we just need to do our best to keep these babies alive. Sunset Nursery also has a great selection of succulents and pots to cover all your needs. Prices seem pretty reasonable as well. Very friendly service. Parking is a bit limited at the business - they have 3 parking spots for customers right in the front. There seemed to be plenty of street parking around though. read more

This place has SO MANY PLANTS!!!! I even found Lamb's Ear! The staff here are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. They'll advise you on what types of pots you'll need, what kind of soil, how much sun, and how often to water your plants. Like they KNOW their stuff! Decent finds at this nursery. The prices were okay and reasonable for the quality of the plants. They definitely have some lush selections and some just "meh" quality plants. Overall, decent. I was on my Nursery Crawl and about to head home when I realized this was on the way. A friend of mine sent over to me an article from June of this year on Yahoo with a list of "14 favorite places for houseplants" so I came on here to Yelp and bookmarked them. Sunset Nursery is also allowing in a certain amount of people at a time. I went right before they closed. They have such a seed selection OMG!!! and the variety of planter plates is wonderful in all sizes... as to is their selection of pots. It tends to be hard to find Pilea these days as it seems to be one of the more sought after plants. Sunset had 2 huge ones, 1 that was hanging both were full and healthy looking - price was $35.00 I believe but I bought a tiny one at Potted 3 weeks for $30.00 so that is a STEAL! Plenty of soil, hanging basket ropes, mature trees, succulents etc. Artist Aaron Apsley water colored stickers are sold here too! Although the street address is Sunset Blvd. the entrance is on Fountain Ave. you can park on the street. I am going back for sure when I have more time and money to spend lol. There is street parking for this nursery. They had a line to get in that hugs their fence - with orange lines to designate the 6 ft spacing. They have a blue pop up tent for part of their line. Once you get to the front of the line, there's a board with lots of signage for social distancing and employees wearing face masks telling people when they can enter. They seem sociable with each other but didn't chat much with the customers in line. Once you enter, there's a bunch of shopping carts that you can grab. There's a lot of sections of plants, succulents, trees and pots to look at. They even have an indoor section with gardening tools, etc. They don't allow the carts in this section. I walked around this area without seeing any staff, which was fine because I didn't have any questions. On the counter there is a sign that says to checkout at the orange tent (towards the entrance) and a sign that says "As a courtesy, please limit your shopping time to 20 minutes" with the words 20 minutes underlined. read more

As I've recently been building my house plant collection, I was excited to finally come here after passing by this place numerous times! They have a wide selection of cacti and succulents, as well as some other plants that I can't find elsewhere (pilea and string of hearts)! The place was serene and beautiful to view, and I was in awe of the lotus pond they had for display. There were tons of ceramic and clay pots, but it seem like the variation of sizes weren't many. They either came really small, or really gigantic! I felt the pricing was a little higher than other nurseries, and some a lot of plants didn't look like it was in the best health so it did make me question if mine will survive. The staff appeared to be busy working, and helping others who had a big order so when I asked for help I was given instructions to find the plant I was looking for rather than guided there like they would for other customers. Besides overcharging for plants, I don't know how Sunset Nursery stays in business. I have not had good luck with their plants, but the last time I shopped there, over a year ago, they did replace TWO plants that died in pretty short order, so no worries there, but I took back a plant last week with the receipt, two weeks after I bought it, and it was clearly dying but they refused to replace it or refund my money. They didn't even care to see the photos I took showing the progression or that it started dying 2-3 days after I got it home. I left it behind and walked out. I'll stick with Rolling Greens in West LA from now on. read more

A pretty great selection, and if they don't have what you want, they will help you find it, or offer great options. The staff is always nice, ALWAYS, I've never had a cold shoulder here, which is refreshing. The place can get crowded, but if you time it right, checkout can still go quickly. This place is the kind of business that is a mainstay for a community, as gentrification creeps in and we lose so much of our Silver Lake culture. Year 3 of the pandemic and I figured that it's time that I start cultivating my green thumb. This is the first gardening store that I have visited recently so I have nothing to compare it to. They had everything that the gardening books mention: seeds, perlite, tons of fertilizer, soil mixes and tons of pots. After trying to buy seeds online and getting tired of how expensive shipping was or how everything I wanted was already sold out (note to self: order seeds during Black Friday) I decided to venture here and was pleased with the selection. Yes, certain things were sold out but there were about 5 seed companie's offerings so if determinate tomatoes were sold out in one then I settled for another. Also another plus was that they had Kitazawa seeds so you can get your Asian cucumbers, Bok choy, eggplant, momotaro tomatoes and shiso. Kitazawa has free shipping online but were sold out of alot of stuff so I was hoping Sunset Nursery would have those hot items but no luck. The variety of watering cans was a bit lacking but it's prolly because they have tons of hoses, wands, and parts for irrigation systems. Okay, that's a bit hardcore for my patio garden so the hunt for a watering can continues. read more

Every single plant -- about 15 -- that I've bought here in the last year has been infected or infested with bugs. It's very overpriced for what you're getting, especially with herb plants. I bought two $60-70 cacti and both are infected. Every single house plant I've bought from Here is crawling with small bugs that have infected other plants in my house. I love coming to Sunset Nursery! People usually stroll around nursery but during COVID the staff here are doing a very good job of crowd controlling the place. The line area is also marked 6 ft for social distance. There are citrus trees full size and dwarf size, a variety of plants and succulents, a big selection of pots, and gardening tools and supplies. They even have unique citrus like blood orange (which I have not seen). I make sure I pop into their super lush greenhouse- what a cool space! During my visits there, I've purchased plants, succulents, pots, and soil. All their plants look so healthy and shoppable. PARKING: There is a tiny lot in front of the nursery that typically full, a shared lot with next door, and street parking. PRICE: The prices are reasonable. SERVICE: The staff there is friendly and helpful. On my first visit, they potted the Golden Pothos in the pot so all I had to do was hang the macrame by my front door when I got home. I've also seen them help customers to their car, even if it was across or down the street. I've been here a couple times now and will definitely be back! I just recently got a new place, so I'll be back for more house plants and citrus tress when it gets closer to end of Winter and entering Spring season. read more
