    Pilates...great workout
    Sophie C.

I am probably the biggest fan of ACC. I felt very self conscious after giving birth to my daughter and I credit Armone and her wonderful trainers for getting me back and shape and making me feel good about my body again. I have tried every class they have to offer. Pilates, barre, circuit, boxing, cycling, you name it, I have tried it. For weight loss I really enjoyed the cycling classes. I hate running but I have fun cycling. The class leaders are so motivating. They are always pushing me which I love. I could never go back to a regular gym anymore, I just couldn't do it. They don't even come close to Armone's Core Connection. If you want a good workout, you need to come to this fitness studio in La Jolla!

no manners, too much talking between teacher and student. this is not right when you teach a group class.

Great . You feel a difference. I've been trying different pilates places and Armone's definitely one, if not, the best.

Apparently, grace is only extended for five minutes. The owner explained why. First, safety: I'd missed the warm-up. (During my intro class, her receptionist joined about ten minutes late. So much for that.) Second, and more telling -- if she let me in, what would the other clients think? They'd think lateness was acceptable. The optics mattered more than the paying member standing in front of her In tears. Third, the policy was in an email I admittedly hadn't read closely. I was new- it was my first class as a member, so I truly didn't know or I wouldn't have driven the extra 30 minutes. All it would have taken: "Come in, warm up on your own and take it slow. For next time, we have a five-minute grace period." Rule intact, member retained. Instead I was sent home, and when I asked to refund the pass I hadn't used for a single class, I was told no -- she provides a service and I pay for it. Rigid, and not interested in the people paying to be there or in having empathy for real life situations.

This is a women owned business & I cannot be more proud of Erika & Leeann for doing what they do, what they've accomplished, & what is yet to come! This studio isn't your typical Barre studio, they really do teach more than just Barre, but also connecting to your mind, body, & soul. I love the fact this studio is not a chain, which makes it more special because it locally owned & their technique is impressive! I noticed there is never more than 10 people in the class, which is a plus! The instructors are able to concentrate on helping everyone with their forms & it becomes more personal compared going to a chain. I love the fact that every class/workout is different! The esthetics of the studio is what makes it different as well. Everything from the scents to décor, it gives a good energy & it literally doesn't make you feel like you're at a typical gym or workout space. All the women who work in the studio really do put in all their efforts to make everyone special & feel so welcomed. Try a class & you won't regret it!

Class sizes are small and Erika and LeeAnn are amazing instructors! One thing so unique about this studio is Erika makes sure your form is correct so that you don't hurt yourself. So appreciative of Erika and the Barre and Bay Wreath community. I hadn't taken barre classes previously and was very weak when I first started, but I always felt welcome. Love coming to classes here and can really see the difference in how strong I'm getting!! Can't wait for my next class!!

Taking advantage of a 3 for $36 intro special, I tried out PVOLVE, one of the fitness studios…read morelocated in the newest section of the Westfield UTC Mall. It took me all 3 classes to finally understand what PVOLVE is. Their signature classes utilize a lot of proprietary props and accessories like the p ball (a resistance band that holds a ball that you put on almost like a belt or pair of pants). They do have a weighted training class that does involve light weights (up to 15 lbs). The movements are described as functional. As the instructors teach, they often describe how the movement mimics a movement you'd do in your everyday life like picking up something of the side of the bed or closing the door. There are foundational positions that you frequently work out of involving small, but effective movements. As someone whose done all sorts of group fitness classes, I can honestly say it isn't quite like anything else. While there are components that mimic barre or pilates, it's different. There are a lot of inverted positions in which one foot might be facing forward while the other is moving inward. That was unique and felt a little difficult to get used to, but the instructors are very attentive in helping you get it right. I especially enjoyed Maggie. She was so friendly and I took her classes twice! If you're a first timer, know that you do wear athletic shoes here. They have a nice locker room and changing area. You pick up your basket of props and drop them off at the end of class. Overall, I really enjoyed the classes. I think this studio would be especially great for those recovering for an injury as it feels slightly similar to physical therapy. It's highly accessible and there was a wide age range of participants in the class. The only thing that would prevent me from continuing to come here is the cost. The monthly unlimited membership is $400/month. It's a great workout, but that's a really high cost, even in comparison to many other group fitness studios. The benefit is that it does come with access to their at home classes, but it's still difficult to justify. A single drop-in class is $45. I really enjoyed the class and hope I can find a way to come to another class!

But you are more interested, probably, in what I don't like: Rocco Ragano. He's a Nia instructor who titters when the class makes mistakes based on "assumptions", which means we assume he was about to do the same thing again and followed that instinct, when he's instead changing it up without any verbal communication. He is a classically trained dancer besides, so his choreography is overly complicated, and he's talented enough that he can't comprehend or assist people who aren't already proficient--not traits you want in a teacher. Imagine trying to learn basic math from a astrophysicist who has an internalized understanding of numbers, and can't imagine why you don't just get it: he's the Nia equivalent of that. And there's a touch of malice too; he seems to delight in the mistakes of his students, even when the mistakes are due to his poor leadership. I was so frustrated and ashamed that I didn't stay for his cool-down. I left in the middle of another overly complicated routine, with just 7 minutes of class left--I couldn't endure any more of him. When I walked out the door, he was smiling smugly in the mirror, like it was an accomplishment to distort the meaning and purpose of Nia to the point that a student *who truly enjoys it* has a miserable experience, gives up and goes home. Other instructors though, are marvelous, helpful, and even inspiring. I would avoid that man, unless you are already a Nia and dance star. Otherwise, prepare to be alienated.
