I did a private group class with Kelsey for my bachelorette, and to say that we all enjoyed it would be an understatement! It was such an amazing experience! The studio is gorgeous, very spacious, clean, and fabulous aura! Kelsey is the most incredible instructor I have ever met! She's so motivating and her energy is amazing! The way that workout was constructed was amazing, I feel like I worked every part of my body (and I could feel every part of my body the next couple of days lol in the best way possible)! The megaformer has been my new favorite way to work out! Lagree is so challenging and rewarding with the results- after about 4 months of going to Pilates Plus 3-4x a week, my body has toned and slimmed so much. The studio is clean, has beautiful decor, and amazing instructors - Amy & Adrienne are my all time favorite! They're so sweet, motivating, and have such a nice flow to their routines. My absolute favorite work out! I've been coming for almost 2 years now wow I can't believe it. This studio is everything you could want in a community, in a work out it's my "me" time. The classes challenge you mentally and push you to new heights you didn't think you could physically get to. A great spot to work out in La Jolla. I love Pilates, and specifically megaformers. It's a great way to workout your whole body, in a short period of time. I visited using Classpass, and the check in process was quite easy. Though parking was a bit tough, once you got to the studio it was clean and well run, with good-water and a locker area to store purses/shoes. The class itself flowed very well, and the instructor did a good job explaining the moves and working out various areas consistently and yet not overly so. A con was that the studio is quite large, keeping the instructor moving from side to side of the room. Sometimes I wasn't sure exactly how to do a move, and the instructor was too far away to notice/ask. Additionally we started about 5 minutes late, but ended right on time. Giving us just a 35 minute work out. At the time I didn't mind because it was still very tough, but overall looking back on it I think she should have run a tad over knowing we started later. You leave here feeling sore all over, and can easily justify the delish breakfast at the cottage next door! read more

I love this studio and all the trainers. Everyone is so good. It really has a neighborhood vibe and the boutique with all the yoga clothes and cute matching sets is the best. They have great sales play great music and Maggie is always professional and easy to talk to. Sacha is a great trainer. I love them all. Hannah, who is new is also amazing. I can't say one bad thing about this place. They also have a waitlist so if the class looks full, definitely call. They are really good at accommodating you. Best Pilates in La Jolla. Best Pilates instructors in San Diego, hands down. If you are a beginner, don't be nervous Sacha is very present and shows you to to properly position your body. Had an amazing first workout at Pilates Plus LJ this morning at Malia's Ride & Glide 6:30 class. Class consisted of 25 minute spin followed by 25 minute mega reformer class. I really enjoyed Malia's class -- she was very upbeat and positive. Also played good tunes and helped with instruction and correction of positions. The studio itself is open and clean. Fresh towels and a water cooler are onsite. Additionally, there is a little boutique setup by the front desk if you want to pick up some workout tanks or bottoms. I really enjoy the mega reformer workout -- SUPER challenging and not your average Pilates class. I do lots of different workout classes (barre, spin, Pilates, boot camp, et al), but the mega reformer is consistently challenging and an amazing full body workout. I will definitely be back! Lots of street parking. I can imagine this gets hectic in the evening before class, so allow time to find a parking spot! read more

Good times doing megaformers here at Pilates Plus. I remember after my very first class, I had to rest against the trees in front of the Cottage because I felt like my legs were going to give out. However, after having been here a few times, I am definitely noticing results! Not only because I feel super sore the next day, but because of something I noticed while at a dancing downtown. Imagine my impressed friends as I was able to 'pulse up, pulse down' while holding a squat. Yeah! I've been coming here on and off via class pass and now weekend warriors, but am thinking of renewing the pass just because this place is such a legit workout. I love Holly; she is my favorite. Love megaformer. I am huge devotee of this workout and I loved coming to Pilates plus during my recent visit to San Diego. I didn't love the 40 minute format as I'm used to 50 minutes and i found they cut short the obliques as a result. Still a great workout and a super clean studio with very cute clothes that they sell. I popped in here with my husband on our trip to La Jolla. We do pilates about 3-4 times a week and wanted to keep our routine while we are on vacation. Let me tell you, this isn't your grandmas pilates. It's fast, it's intense, you'll find muscles you didn't know you had. I was sore, but couldn't wait to go back all at the same time. Jessica and the music push you through. I wish this was offered in my area. I would definitely mix it in with my regular pilates routine. Other details: The studio is clean and well maintained. I recently visited San Diego and being that I do Pilates at home, I thought I'd take some classes out there. Wow! I was so impressed with Pilates Plus La Jolla that I will return every time I visit San Diego in the future. The studio is in a great location with an intimate setting. Prior to my visit, I phoned the studio with a couple of questions and was amazed that I received a return phone call -- I hadn't even arrived yet. My first class was amazing. I got a complete overall body workout, sweat a bit, and had a lot of fun. The instructor, Jessica, was amazing. Knowing it was my first time doing an SPX class, she was able to give me some individual instruction on alignment and positioning without slowing the other, more experienced students of SPX. I was "pleasantly" sore the next day, especially in my inner thighs, glutes, and core. Jessica was very knowledgeable and put together a great sequence of moves that worked. She also read the students very well and being that the classes are small and intimate, was able to suggest modifications so that the class was accessible to all students. Finally, the other students and instructor were all very welcoming! This made the experience much more personal. Thank you Pilates Plus La Jolla! I hope to see you on my next visit! read more

Prior to joining Pilates Plus La Jolla, I felt like I'd tried every workout in the world and was bored. I began doing private sessions with Jessica (owner) and immediately fell in love. Learning how to move on the reformer and get my muscles used to these movements was great in the one on one atmosphere. When I began doing the group classes, I felt that there was no way I could get a full body workout in 40 minutes. I was extremely wrong! The group classes are well taught and organized, and I haven't had an instructor that I didn't absolutely love! I have been at Pilates Plus for a little under 3 months and have seen huge results in my body. My clothes are looser and I feel stronger than I ever have. I've tried everything from ballet to running to swimming to biking to yoga to kickboxing and more, and without a doubt, pilates, this studio in particular, has delivered the fastest most visible results. Prompted by the washboard abs I saw on the runway strutting Victoria's Secret models, I decided to give pilates a try. I was hooked. The studio is clean, the other pilates-ers here are friendly (and inspirationaly fit), each class is different than the last, the music rocks my world (even at 6:15am) and the instructors are a-maz-ing. Jessica, the owner of the studio, keeps the flow between each move fluid, incorporating a more than expected (for pilates) cardio element. She should be a DJ because her music is epic. Leah, what an adorable nugget. She makes everyone feel welcome, she has incredible rhythm as she breaks out her dance moves in the spin/pilates hybrid class (even with a pregnant belly), and her classes always keep me smiling through the pain that I know is shredding every muscle to give me a toned, lean, hot bod. And Tee, man oh man is she an inspiration. Who doesn't want to take a fitness class coached by a babe with a rocking bod? Seriously, she is so fit. She knows how to motivate the class by reminding us how much better pilates is going to make our butts look in a thong. It's true, the blonde babe is one fiery ball of energy and you will 100% feel and see results after her class. As a triathlete, I have witnessed all of my swim, bike, and run times drastically improve since joining pilates plus 2 months ago. I was in La Jolla for vacation over the weekend, and in looking to keep up with my workouts I found this fantastic pilates studio. My partner and I were only able to take in two morning classes, but we'd be members if we lived in the area. The workout was by far the most complete exercise either of us have experienced. The instructor was focused throughout, and able to help us with being new to the machines while keeping it varied for the other people in the classes. It really struck me as a top notch studio. This studio is very nice, always clean. There are only 8 machines and you are required to sign up in advance for all classes (not a fan). All of the instructors I've had were very good. Even though the classes are full body, you can tell that each instructor emphasizes either arms, legs or core. I'm one of those people who stresses about parking so, even though the studio is in downtown La Jolla, I didn't like it all that much. Having to worry about parking time limits tends to take away from focusing on getting the most out of your exercise. SPX Pilates is an incredible workout, I had muscles hurt that had never hurt before. I would definitely be willing to do it again, but at a more convenient location. And it's probably just me (and hopefully a few others), but I got dinged pretty bad when I lost my balance on the machine and landed rear-end-first on one of the rails that the carriage moves on. Definitely not a reason to deduct a star, but boy did that HURT! read more

I went here for a free happy hour class. It's just like Core40/BodyRok or whatever they are calling themselves these days...40 minutes of intense reformer pilates. I love this kind of workout, fast and furious (and sometimes painful) and then it's over! The instructor was good, but I only gave it 4 stars because of the following: A woman came to class who was about ready to give birth (I overheard her tell the instructor she had been having contractions) and brought her 2 sons, who were probably 5-6. Normally not a big deal, but they are boys. And elementary school age boys. There's not much sitting still time. Not only were they distracting, I also felt that it was a safety hazard since they were running around a little. Not to the point of interfering with the class, but enough that I noticed when the mom had to discipline them and get them to stop. Again, I get that people need to bring their kids sometimes, but 1) you are literally ready to give birth at any moment and 2) you are the mother of 2 boys...it's not your first rodeo. They are not going to sit still. And I honestly don't even care so much about that, but like I said, it just seemed like sort of a safety hazard. The owners should consider making a policy for safety reasons. read more

I tried this place on a LivingSocial deal and I have mixed feelings. If you are looking for real pilates, don't go here. This is what I was hoping for and why I did not join after my LivingSocial deal was over. It does not include any of the corrective moves of pilates and nor does this method teach you proper form on how to really strengthen your core. However, if you are looking for a butt-kicking cardio and strengthening routine you will likely be pleased. I am sure if you keep taking the classes, you will see some sculpting results, especially in your butt, arms, and legs. The workouts were so intense and fun that I considered continuing, but I decided that I would rather spend my money on real pilates. A more pure form of pilates gives you a tighter waistline, stronger core, and corrects for some of your body's weaknesses. read more

So I wanted to try to class out on ClassPass and made the (exhausted) mistake of booking a 6:30am Ride and Glide class thinking it was at 6:30pm! Big mistake! I woke up to an email saying I had missed my class. I called into the studio immediately and talked to Sarah at the front desk who was very nice and helpful. I explained to her what had happened and asked if there was any way that I could switch to a class later in the evening and she happily set me up for the 6:15pm Full Body Pilates class w/ Natalie. I arrived about 10 minutes early. There's a lot of street parking available later in the evenings so I was able to find a spot right across the street. I walked into a big, open and clean studio w/ about 10 mega reformers lined up. I checked in w/ the front desk girl (not Sarah) and signed the waiver for being a first timer. I was then introduced to Natalie and she asked if I had done Pilates before. I told her yes, just not at this studio and she welcomed me and gave me some tips for their reformers. There are lockers in the studio to hold your stuff while you workout which is nice. There is a also a separate cycle room in the back of the studio for the Ride and Glide class, which is the one I originally wanted to take. The class was challenging and I was definitely shakin' and feelin' the burn all over my body. I am writing this review the next morning and I am definitely sore. But a good sore. This isn't your normal Pilates but what you consider Pilates on crack. Your body is shaking, your heart beating and I have seen a huge change in my body. I didn't think I could bounce back from having a baby so fast! I go 3-4 times a week and run 2-3 times a week...all you need. It's legit! My favorite part is the instructor Paul. He's so fun, positive and full of energy. Just when I want to give up...he says something hilarious that takes my mind off the pain. Love Sacha too! I am in love with the SPX Cardio Blast Class that this studio offers! I've taken SPX classes for about a year and a half and love them to death (My core has never been stronger)...but sometimes I really do miss that intense cardio workout. Enter the Cardio Blast class...you get the great SPX workout with cardio intervals. This class is a little longer in length but the time flies by...heart pumping. I've done classical pilaties for years! I've done lots and lots of kettelbell works out and I've run so many miles I've lost count! I've spent 30 years in the fitness industry~ But I have never worked as hard as I have in a private session with Jessica! Seriously!! The next day I did my best not to breath because it was so painful! And I went back!!! Only this time the workout was harder and different then before! Jessica is a great instructor! Really friendly, caring, motivating but not annoying. She continually challenged me to stay with it, even though I was sure I was going to hurl my breakfast. I love the clean lines and open feel of the studio. The private session room is spacious. Even though there is a window that looks on to the spin bikes, it feels so private. After the initial pain of not being able to breath passed, I could see a difference in my body after one session and again the second one, just as horrible and just as effective. I appreciate that if I make a commitment to the studio and workout and sign up for six months the price is reflected in that commitment. All of the other instructors that I met or spoke with on the phone were awesome and knowledgeable about the methodology and the business. I highly recommend this studio for anyone who is interested in superior athletics and is in some what good shape. Not a rehab studio at all~ just good ass burning, calorie crunching fun! read more
