5 Stars for Alba! I took Alba's group Pilates class last week and wow -- she is truly something special. Her cueing was so clear and intuitive that I finally felt my feet-to-heel connection in a way I've never experienced before. It completely changed how I moved through the exercises and left me feeling grounded, aligned, and so much more aware of my body. Alba has this calm yet confident presence that makes the whole room feel supported. She pays attention to the little details, gives hands-on guidance when needed, and somehow manages to make a group class feel personalized. I walked out feeling longer, stronger, and genuinely inspired. If you're looking for an instructor who knows her craft and helps you tap into those deeper Pilates connections, go to Alba's class. She's amazing. read more

After taking a hiatus from Pilates to have my babies I found myself back in action this year and have never been happier to finally incorporate Pilates back into my fitness routine. Anyone who has had a baby knows that it can do a number on your pelvic floor. Not giving away too much detail, I was in great need of some strengthening in my pelvic floor. I have been religious about my time with Studio Flo because I want to ensure I have a strong foundation, especially as I enter menopause. Every single woman, babies or babies, requires special attention to their pelvic floor once menopause hits. In the last several months I have seen a true difference in my function as my previous symptoms have lessen. This is all thanks to the teachers at Studio Flo who have a deep understanding of the human anatomy and what it takes to strengthen from within. They have spent the time correcting my form and going the extra step to explain and show things when I needed the extra help. I cannot recommend Studio Flo enough. It got me back to feeling like myself again. Thank you for providing a studio filled with teachers who have been trained by the best read more

Alba is fabulous! Her reformer 1 class was beginner friendly and her hands on cueing and thorough explanation throughout the session ensured I completed every exercise with safe form and modifications appropriate for my body. This is an update on my review originally written 6/30/14. I have practiced pilates for more than 15 years, 10 of them at StudioFlo. And having spent a decade with StudioFlo, my opinion has only increased. The physical space is filled with natural light, has a wonderful view and when the windows are open it flows with fresh air. The studio is clean and the equipment is well maintained. As for instruction, Jennie and her instructors emphasize proper form and are able to break it down so it is understandable and achievable. Now that I am 69 years old, avoiding injury and being strong are priorities. StudioFlo helps me accomplish both. Thanks Jennie! Looking forward to spending another 10 years with you!! read more

I can't say enough good things about this classical Pilates studio! The instructors are incredibly knowledgeable and pay close attention to form and technique, ensuring you get the most out of each session. I tend to be very critical of this given my occupation and I trust ALL of the instructors to be able to modify or change any of the exercises to accommodate all bodies. I was able to continue to enjoy the group classes even well into both of my pregnancies. The equipment is well-maintained and the classes are tailored to all skill levels, making it a great place for both beginners and seasoned practitioners. I've noticed a significant improvement in my strength and flexibility since joining. I no longer have low back pain after a long day on my feet. If you're looking for a studio that emphasizes the true principles of Pilates, this is the place to be! Highly recommend! read more

I am sad to leave this review, and I recognize that most of Studio Flo's reviews are stellar, but it is necessary I make the world know how Jennie Groom is running her business, because my experience demonstrates how this studio has changed over the years, including the owner's core values, her lack of caring for long term customers and focus on "rules" that have no substance with lack of both flexibility and accommodation for people's injuries. I have been coming to Studio Flo since Jennie opened her studio on Denver Street and then she moved to Morena location, so 10+ years. In fact, I started with personal trainings because I had back and knee issues at the time. My routine involved primary Tower classes which depending on who was coaching them were either really good or just average, but they still gave me a good stretch and worked my muscles. In October of 2023, I purchased another set of 20 credits for $400 with hopes I could continue my Pilates Tower journey. Unfortunately, I managed to use only 4 credits because I have injured my wrist quite severely followed with a shoulder injury couple of months later requiring me to be in PT for almost half a year, which prevented me from coming back to Pilates and still having 16 credits on the books. Recently, after feeling that I got my strength back and completing my PT sessions, I wanted to come back to Pilates realizing that I have not used much of the credits that are about to expire within next 10 days. Considering the classes were prepaid and nothing is cheap in today's world, especially in San Diego, I have reached out to Jennie asking politely if she could extend the timeline for my credits for another half a year while explaining that I was injured thus I couldn't come. Her voice and attitude on the phone were disappointing and I realized that she doesn't care about her long term customers as she coldly stated that she was strict about her rules, she runs a business and she can only extend it by a one month. Well, a single month is not going to work for me as I need to leave for England to attend to a family situation plus her schedule changed so dramatically I wouldn't be able to find Tower classes within a month outside my work schedule. I felt uncomfortable begging her to extend my credits at least to the end of the year because her response was so cold, without any care or empathy for my recent injuries. If she asked, I would have showed her my doctor referral letters for both wrist and shoulder PTs as a proof that I couldn't use my credits but that is beside the point. I am disappointed about her lack of empathy and treatment of long term customers. If she is running a business, as she said she should understand the value of recurring revenue from a long term future customer AND if it was actually worth losing a long term customer. The NPV of future revenue generated from me by staying with Studio Flo was worth way more than losing me as a customer, because of refusal to allow me to use what I already purchased, but I will let her do the calculations. Ultimately it boils down to KARMA somewhere. Finally, this studio's class variety and schedule is not what it used to be, unfortunately. Before pandemic she offered versatile classes with good balance between Tower and Reformer, also accommodating folks who must leave their homes for work. Now she is focused on training new Pilates instructors, she offers primarily Reformer class and most classes are scheduled during work hours. Lastly, beware of buying credits and hoping to use them because most classes are offered during work hours and the best classes get quickly full as people put themselves on a reoccurring schedule which significantly narrows down your choices. Realizing how this business has changed I prefer to entrust the health of my body and my money to another Pilates studio that values their customers and empathetically care about their well-being. I wish her "good luck" in her future endeavors. I will not be coming back and do not recommend this studio primarily because of my core values. read more

I've been practicing pilates for 15+ years and I highly recommend this classical pilates studio. It feels like a diverse community of all ages and everyone is welcome. People come wanting to find a good exercise experience and end up making new friends at the same time. There are a variety of class types and times with a number of unique instructors. The instructors are hands on and take into account individual bodies and previous injuries. Nearly every class I hear "How is your body feeling today? Any changes I should know about?" The prices and package expiry durations are very reasonable. Much more then other yoga and pilates studios I've been to. Come give Studio Flo a try. read more

This review is long overdue. I have been taking classes on a regular basis for a year after a few years of gap following the Pandemic. Jennie and other amazing instructors, the classic style of Pilates, the studio ambience, and the great fellow Pilates lovers make me look forward to my classes everyday. Jennie, the owner, is a brilliant instructor who plans her classes thoughtfully each time. You will be amazed at how creative she is in designing and planning the exercises while adhering to the principles of classic Pilates. She is an experienced, knowledgeable, and caring instructor who attends to everyone in the class. But, beyond all, she is an amazing human being! She always has a big smile on her face no matter how things have been with her outside the studio. She brings her complete focus and attention to her classes to make sure everyone gets the best out of each class. I appreciate that studio offers the opportunity to try different classes and instruments, including the reformer, tower, spine corrector, chair, and mat among other things. When you are at Studio Flo, you feel at home and part of a wonderful family of great instructors and classmates. I truly feel blessed to have found this studio! I hope you do too. Thank you Jennie et al! read more

This studio has such a special feeling of community. It feels like everyone knows each other. There wasn't anyone sitting at the front desk waiting for check-in. The teachers knew exactly who and how many people were in their classes and began promptly. They were super friendly and welcoming. There are two rooms right next to each other- separated by a glass wall. I took a free community class and right next door, there was a ballet class going on. They told me that they have a free community class every Monday and Wednesday led by teachers in the teaching program. I took a class from Coco and she was awesome! It was definitely a class that pushed me! It was hard but amazing! There are eight reformers in the room, so the classes are very small and personal. I really enjoyed this studio and would be interested in taking a ballet or barre class as well. read more

When I first moved to San Diego I was surprised by the number of people who opted to attend classes at boutique studios over traditional gyms. After my first month of attending classes at Studio Flo, I can say that I 100% understand why people favor more specialized studios like this one. As they always say, you get what you pay for, and this studio is no exception to that rule. Sure, I could buy a generic gym membership at Costco on the cheap, but at Studio Flo I am paying for quality. The instructors, Jennie and Emily, are beyond good at what they do. Each class feels like a personal training session, where they are constantly correcting your form and telling you how you can improve. This is really important to me because as I get older....grumble, grumble...I am noticing the effects that bad form can have on the body. I have also noticed that my fitness is improving at a more rapid pace through my work at this studio. With Emily always looking over my shoulder, I am never going to cheat myself out of a quality workout! The studio is small - but in a good, homey sort of way. Everything is always very clean, and they provide all-natural cleaners to wipe down the equipment. There are no big bells and whistles here, just challenging, high-quality workouts led by friendly faces. read more

I have been to quite a few pilates studios and none compare to Studio Flo. Jenni and her team are so knowledgable and hands on that even a beginner class is a new learning opportunity. I love that the reformer and tower classes only have 8 spots so you really get 1 on 1 attention and you always are being adjusted and corrected on form and posture -- something you do not often get at larger studios. Not only is there plenty of parking, but it is right off the freeway and easy to access even in the evening during rush hour from Del Mar. I particularly love the foam rolling classes on Friday after a tough week, it feels so good to stretch and massage it out! I cannot wait to get back to classes and enjoying this beautifully designed and calm studio ASAP! read more

4 1/2 years ago, I went to Studio Flo and attended my first Pilates class. At the time, my son's girlfriend was a teacher at Flo, and I thought it would be a nice gesture if I took one of her classes. But when I entered the beautiful and airy Studio Flo and took one look at the Reformer and Tower apparatus, I wanted to run away. I was an unfit, uncoordinated 61-year-old with poor muscle tone and a negative attitude towards fitted exercise pants in bright colors. But that was 2015. 2020 will be my 5th anniversary with Studio Flo. In a stroke of serendipity, I found the best Pilates studio in San Diego! Studio Flo is a classical Pilates studio which means they adhere to the original teachings of Joseph Pilates who believed that mental and physical health were interrelated. He was so right. Over the past five years, Pilates has improved the quality of my life. I am physically and mentally stronger, and I give the instructors at Studio Flo all the credit. They are all very professional, highly trained, encouraging, considerate and fun! It is hard work, but it's worth it! Getting older isn't easy (then again, what stage of life is?), but Pilates at Studio Flo has made it easier. read more

Last December, I decided to research the best form of exercise for my body at a significant low point in my life. I thought my abdominal muscles were shot and I would never have a healthy body again. I started on Class Pass and quickly realized I was using all my credits for Study Flo Pilates so needless to say, I signed up with them! Merry Christmas to me; IT HAS CHANGED MY LIFE. My first class was supposed to be Ballet, but out of confusion, I ended up taking Reformer 101. Kaitlyn was my first instructor; She was quick to show me that the machines are not the big scary monsters they look like and little did I know, they would change my body for the better. She was quick to make sure my form was correct, and teach me the terminology. I've taken multiple classes there, such as Tower 101 and Reformer 101, with different instructors there and I can hands down say, every single one of them is wonderful. It's easy to see the owner is highly trained and makes sure all her instructors are. My most recent classes before switching over to their online Mat Pilates class, were with three other instructors; THEY ARE THE MOST GENUINE PEOPLE. There have been a few times even my husband tried it out. Mind you, he played football his whole life, so he took the class lightly walking in... When he walked out he told me he was already feeling it in muscles he never knew he had. He has even taken two online classes they currently have now too and is sore every single time. With that said, I've realized I am starting to actually build core abs that I never thought I would get and even see! TMI, but even my menstrual cycles are getting better because of Pilates. Each instructor truly focuses on your Pelvic Floor, but also so many other muscles in your whole body. Due to COVID Pandemic, they began online Mat Pilates classes. And mind you, they are not just your typical workout videos. They are live, via Zoom, so don't think you can slack or worry about doing it incorrectly; because they always make sure your form is correct. They check in with you before every class too. My husband and I hope to conceive soon. Knowing all the instructors are trained for Pre/Postnatal, as well as when you're pregnant makes me know that I won't be going anywhere else to workout. Hands down, because of Studio Flo, I'm the healthiest I've been in my whole life. read more

With small class sizes and extremely knowledgeable and educated teachers, Studio Flo is a phenomenal place. The studio is not only focused on a work out, but also works to teach all of the students about their bodies and the Pilates method. Having only 8 people in a class makes it easy for the teachers to engage each person, so you really feel like you are getting 1 on 1 attention. When I started, my lower back didn't move at all - it was pretty much frozen. Now, I can not only move that part of my back, but it has gained flexibility and strength. I can't say enough great things about Studio Flo. The sense of community and belonging that the owner, Jennie, created is marvelous. They are supportive, kind, engaging, welcoming, and really hard workers. Every class is challenging in different ways. No matter how long I have been going to classes there, there is always something new that they can show me. Pilates is easy, until you begin digging deeper into it, then you realize that you don't know anything at all. The teachers at Studio Flo hold your hands along that journey, while pushing you to new accomplishments, and they make the process really fun. read more

Through an unexpected airplane conversation, I received a referral and introduction to Studio Flo. And I'm so glad I did. Jennie and the entire staff at Studio Flo have impressed me from day one. I'm not new to sports, the gym, or any workout that includes a ton of cardio, loud music and sweating, but I was fresh off the farm as it related to Pilates. Therefore, I knew I'd have to really enjoy the studio and the instructors for this to work. The reformer and tower classes max out at 8 clients. Nobody wins from doing exercises incorrectly, which is why the small group classes are perfect. The instructors are helpful and hands on, working to ensure each person is on the right track, assisting and correcting form, and demonstrating techniques when needed. As a newbie, I felt comfortable right away which speaks volumes to this studio. There isn't an ounce of pretentiousness from anyone. Just a lot of people committed to their health and fitness goals, learning the true Pilates techniques, and seeking to achieve their goals. I've spread my wings some, trying several classes to include both Reformer and Tower 101, FLOwing Spine, and Flo Barre to date; and have enjoyed them all. The new studio location on Morena is beautiful, with lovely views, lots of natural light and ventilation, and a more spacious and modern design. I'm excited to continue to learn and improve, and work my way into the intermediate classes and beyond. read more

I look forward to coming to Studio Flo several times a week. After work, this pilates studio becomes my sanctuary. Jennie and her team of instructors are attentive and motivating. Jennie only learned my name once and never forgot it. The instructors do a great job of holding classes that are intimate, and their classes accommodate beginners and advanced clients so everyone gets a great workout. Furthermore, the vibe is relaxed and fun. I wish I could bottle this place up and keep it all to myself, but at the same time I want to tell everyone I know how much I enjoy it there-- and I know you will too. read more

I have taken pilates at other studios and none of them compare to Studio Flo. I used to take Jennie's bar classes at another gym and she is a great instructor. Since coming to Flo, it is evident how passionate she and Emily are for teaching the traditional methods of pilates. They are constantly correcting my form, which is awesome because despite working out regularly, I have horrible core strength. If you aren't used to this much hands on from an instructor, do not take it personally. I think someone else mentioned, it's almost like private instruction because they are always watching to make sure you are doing things correctly, which will make you stronger and prevent injury. They have lots of good class times/options as well as a great new student package. Come check them out! read more

I moved to San Diego a few years ago. I instantly fell in love with San Diego, but desperately missed my pilates instructor from my previous city. I tried so many studios in San Diego but none of them even came close to comparing. The studios I tried were not focused on form; they were more concerned about the amount of weight or number of reps. I had enough knowledge to realize that this was against the fundamentals of Pilates. Finally, after a flurry of frustrated Google searches, I found Studio Flo. Right away, I was impressed with the extensive education and impressive backgrounds of the instructors. I gave the studio a try and fell in love with the classes and instructors right away. I knew I had finally found my pilates home! With that being said, all of the instructors are so knowledgeable, and have a heavy emphasis on form. They help students understand how to do each position correctly with visual imagery and hands on adjustments. It never gets boring or easy. The instructors always continue to challenge the students to perfect our form and try new skills. After a year of classes, I still have SO much to learn. Thank you Jennie for creating such a wonderful environment to learn and grow!! read more

I've been doing reformer Pilates for about 5 years. Jennie and Emily are such wonderful instructors that keep to the true classical Pilates. Other than being nice and fun instructors, they really keep a close eye on each student to ensure proper form. Their expertise in Pilates is evident in their smooth classes. They have a great variety of classes and levels to keep you challenged at the beginner to advanced level. After the workouts I really feel my core and my entire body worked. Most recently I've tried tower. It's awesome! If you try Pilates you'll totally get addicted especially at studio flo. read more

I am what some call a Pilates' nerd. I can remember the exact time and place where I fell in love with The Method in 2008. I have been on a journey ever since to find my Pilates' home, and after many years of searching, I found it at Studio Flo Pilates. Studio Flo Pilates is not just a place to come for a workout, but a family of smart, caring and funny instructors and students who actually make me look forward to 6:00 AM classes. The staff cares about teaching its students the craft of Pilates and how it impacts our bodies throughout the day. In addition, at Studio Flo Pilates there are classes for every level and the instructors know how to teach modifications for those who are new or still developing in your practice. Studio Flo Pilates - Reformer done right! - Pilates Near Me - San Diego, California

I met Jennie four years ago while trying to get in better shape before my wedding. She was teaching at another studio in Point Loma at the time, but I fell in love with her classes, and didn't hesitate to follow her to her new studio. While it is now an extra 20 minute drive to get to her studio, I have found that her teaching style and class options have kept me consistent with my workout routine. I'm also pleased to see how her specialized training has really transformed my body. Other instructors just don't compare! read more

Out of shape and stiff after transitioning from an active college life to a desk job, I signed up for a 101 class hoping for some help. I had always assumed Pilates was for yogis and dancers (I am far from either), so I was surprised at how much I LOVED the class! The instructors are great with new clients and will help you with your apparatus or form without making you feel like you're being singled out, and are great at giving you easy to follow cues. The new studio is gorgeous and relaxing, and you'll walk out of class feeling a little taller, a little leaner and more relaxed. On a personal note - I've had surgery on both of my feet, including a major bunion surgery. After my first class I walked out and called my mom saying, "This is going to sound weird, but I think this is going to be really great for my feet!" It's true - the low impact tower/reformer workouts are more gentle than running or boot camps, and the footwork portions of the class have increased my range of motion, even years after surgery. I have a lot less pain now. read more

No joke...this studio has CHANGED MY LIFE! I was a helicopter pilot in the Navy for 10 years. Just 9 months ago I was medically discharged in part for my lower back, which I reinjured frequently and caused me constant pain, especially when sitting (aka flying). I've tried everything since 2011 to get better but have slowly been getting worse. I take continuous pain medications (NSAIDS and muscle relaxers) and I do pain management treatments every 6 months to burn the nerve endings in my spine which give me some relief. I've been practicing 2-3 times per week at StudioFlo for a total of just 10 weeks, and folks...I just cancelled my next pain management treatment, because...I DON'T NEED IT!! I stopped taking the medications 3 weeks ago! I started running again (it's been 2 years), light lifting (I used to Crossfit) and biking...all things I have been unable to do until now. The best part...I leave every class with a smile. The instructors are educated, experienced and fun! Now I've only tried one other chain Pilates studio in the past, but I can say this one is special. This community is a family. The class sizes are small and intimate, which enables time for a lot of individual corrections and encouragement. I want to highlight...these "corrections" are not just verbal or visual like most studios, these instructors provide excellent physical cues. As you can see...I'm obsessed. Obsessed with something makes my life better both mentally and physically. read more

I love this place!! Jennie and her team are amazing! My husband and I tried out Studio Flo's introductory offer and both of us have signed on monthly. We have tried different types of exercise programs, such as CrossFit and circuit training and kept getting too many injuries, because of the rapid pace and incorrect body positioning. Pilates is perfect for us, and for anyone for that matter. All positions are done with precision and supervision. I know that my body is going to be the best it's ever been, and I'm so excited about that. Thank you Studio Flo for helping me focus on being strong and healthy!! read more

I am forever grateful for the time, support and dedication the entire studio provided me. I have taken group classes, including the ballet class, that also taught me how to engage with my body and filled my heart with happiness. One of the best studios in San Diego. You will learn the Pilates method and also be apart of an amazing community of people.

As a male doing Pilates, my body has never felt so connected and strong in its totality. For me, Pilates is my choice of fitness because I want the functionality and longevity of my body to last me until the day I die and Pilates definitely makes me feel that it will. It's also nice to know that Joseph Pilates had originally created the method for men! When I do Pilates at Studio Flo, I feel a sense of accomplishment because I just committed at least 50 minutes to the most challenging and rewarding full-bodied workout there is! The instructors at Studio Flo make the experience of doing Pilates such a welcoming and non-judgmental environment because they understand that everyone's body is different and that we all work at our own pace with however our body feels.. but they know exactly how to challenge us (with the level of class in mind, of course)! Jennie's team of instructors at Studio Flo really are some of the finest Pilates teachers in San Diego. Go and take a class or 50! You'd be daft to not learn from some of, who I think are, our generations greatest Pilates instructors! read more

Having moved to San Diego, I made it a priority to find the best pilates studio. I wanted to find a pilates studio that could compare to the one back home--from the level of instructors to a sense of community. I was skeptical when I booked my private with Jennie after trying another studio that had high reviews, but Studio Flo exceeded all my expectations! Jennie and her team are beyond exceptional. They are well educated and push/challenge you in the best way possible. They are good whole hearted people who only want and offer you the best. They will do anything to help you reach your goals and more as long as they see you put the effort in. You will be amazed after every session on what you've accomplished and how much stronger/flexible you are. I live in North County and will make the drive to Studio Flo. I will even sit in traffic after work. Studio Flo is the best and I wouldn't go anywhere else. Everyone is welcoming and serious about the practice. read more

Studio Flo has helped me make drastic improvements to my posture, flexibility, and strength. I'd always balked at the idea of Pilates as a good workout alternative for men, but I was quickly proven wrong after my first class at Studio Flow. Even after six months of taking reformer and tower classes, I still feel challenged by the "101" level classes. This isn't the type of place where there's a revolving door of instructors and clients. People who come here seem to stay and become familiar faces, and it's easy to understand why. Jennie and Emily are superb instructors who pour a tremendous amount of energy into their clients and making Studio Flo a first-rate business. Highly recommend. read more

I started taking classes at Studio Flo based on yelp reviews which mentioned that studio Flo teachers strongly emphasize proper form. The reviews were right- Jennie and her team of instructors give great cues as well as manual adjustments that are incredibly helpful. I really feel like I am learning something new about proper form every time I am there. Studio Flo also has a really great affordable introductory package so you can sample several classes and really get a good feel of the wide variety that the studio offers. The instructors are enthusiastic, fun, funny and encouraging and you really feel like you are learning and improving. And like other reviews say, I think they do a good job of accommodating all levels. It also feels like they are constantly providing new advice and feedback- it gives the sense that the instructors themselves are continuously trying to improve what they do. The studio is very clean and nice and the students and the teachers are very friendly and welcoming. The rates for the classes are very reasonable-especially if you get a package, and i feel like you are getting really good quality instruction for the price you pay. The classes not only emphasize good form, they also are a good workout. And if you sit at a desk all day like me, I feel like these classes definitely have improved my posture and made me feel stronger and less discomfort and muscle strain in my neck and shoulders. I highly recommend Studio Flo-although like the other reviews said, its easy to want to keep the classes all to yourself! read more

Studio Flo.....YES! I have been doing Pilates at SF for about 3 years. I have learned so much about my body and how to move. My posture has improved significantly. I was suffering from sciatica and low back pain but in the last 3-6 months have consistently been doing Pilates 2-3x/wk and have not had any pain. The class size is small which makes it easy for the instructors to have eyes on all individuals. Coming from a physical therapist, Jennie does a fantastic job educating all of her instructors and allows people who may be fearful to move less fearful due to their knowledge. I recommend Pilates at studio flo to EVERYONE! Keep up the good work and keep on flowing!!! read more
