I am hooked!!! It's such a fun and quick workout. You can to jam to music and work up a heavy sweat. I was so sore after my first class but I couldn't wait to go back. They opened their door this week and I have already been there twice. I'm definitely taking advantage of the unlimited classes for $199. Everything hurts, but in a good way. This place was a lot of fun with upbeat music and a nice atmosphere. I was a little scared that I was going to lose balance and fall into the proformer deathtrap, but the instructor was very helpful and made sure to be near me when introducing the new exercises so she could keep me safe. Another bonus about this place is the prices, they beat almost every place in town, I know, I've been researching it trying to find the best value for the money. Pilates Plus La Jolla is one of the many Lagree studios in San Diego. What separates this studio from its competition is its great trainers, in particular Cori Espinosa. During class, her love and passion for the Lagree method come across, unlike some other trainers, who you can tell are just going through the motions. She genuinely cares for her clients and makes every effort to help them push through their limitations. She adjusts you while working out. She pays attention to the various strength level of her students and cues you accordingly with the appropriate spring level. She will be a great asset to any studio. I felt like I was in pretty good shape until I took a class here and it seriously kicked my ass! Great workout, good people, nice studio, and I've never had a problem with parking. Pilates at Pilates Plus is an amazing workout. I first discovered Pilates Plus studios while living in LA. When working downtown I went 3 times a week to the downtown LA studio and saw amazing results - muscle definition, toning, and weight loss - this after doing cardio and classes at 24 hour fitness 4 times a week w/only slight gains. I moved back to San Diego in September and I knew one of the things I would miss most was pilates. Luckily Pilates Plus La Jolla has opened and I've started up again - again to quick results. I've been going 3-4 times a week for the past month and am amazed by the increase in core strength and muscle definition (yay sexy looking legs!) I've had classes with all three of the current instructors and all of them are great. Each has a slightly different style and will push you to work hard - side note: this is a tough workout, but don't be scared - each exercise can be modified and if you are like me you'll gain confidence as your strength grows. Another good aspect is that the instructors vary the workouts so you aren't going to plateau like you would after going to 24 set/24 lift on a regular schedule. Overall Pilates Plus is nothing less than a full body fantastic workout! You will feel sore but your strength will grow and definition will be improved. read more

I simply love this place... All the equipment's in this place are instructors are really friendly and helpful. Classes are not crowded as compared to other places where you cannot even see what the instructor. The best part that I like is that instructors give you so much personal attention .. I am a beginner at pilates, as I have only gone to two other pilates and this class was very challenging to me but in a good way. I have no idea why this studio has PILATES in the title. This is NOT a Pilates studio. They should just call it body sculpting and leave it at that. Was the workout ok? Yeah... it was fine but not good enough to offset the fact that they falsely advertise their product. I am older and have a bad back. She has helped me avoid back surgery by strengthening my core with exercise; she has helped reshape my body, improve my posture, increase my endurance. She has an amazing personality and is a true motivator. I never stuck with one exercise in the past for very long, became bored and quit. I've been working out my entire life and NEVER have I experienced a workout like this. I am 35 and am in the best shape of my life. I've been driving up to LA for the last year to take classes...it's that Good! It is a full body work out...it strengthens, tightens and tones your body all while getting your heart rate up and elongating your muscles. And it does all of this in 40 minutes. I walk out of class feeling like I've had a better workout than a 2 hour run. There is nothing else out there like this. Once you try it you'll see how amazing it is and you'll be hooked. This place is awesome. If you want to get in shape without adding bulk, Pilates with "the sled", is a great choice. Increases strength, balance, and tones every part of your body. For cardio I mix in some indoor cycling at Sparkcyle across the street. But if you want to work on core and legs, and live in La Jolla, then Pilates Plus is the place to go. Yesterday was my very first Pilates class. I went to the beginner's technique class which was only 40 minutes and consisted mostly of teaching the different positions to use on the reformer, but boy do I feel it today. I do bootcamp classes 2-3 days per week, but pilates is using a whole different set of muscles that I never knew I had. Jessica is very good instructor, and was very patient with me. The reformer gave me a rude wake-up call that I'm not as in shape as I thought I was. Today my core does feel tightened up though. I'm going to be going for the next month to see if I really do like it enough to continue my membership. Updates will be coming! read more

Pilates Plus La Jolla is by far the best Pilates studio in San Diego! I've been a fitness addict for years and even though I've always been in good shape, I've never had the ABS or toned overall muscles that I've gotten since I started taking class here a few times a week! Love Pilates Plus. I am a classically trained Pilates instructor and was traveling in the area. Pilates Plus delivers a great work out that strengthens all your body with a strong core focus. Loved the classes I took with Andrea, Teresa and Paulette. All the instructors and classes were a little different. The instructors were patient and helped me learn the new exercises. This is different from classical Pilates. I feel my background in Pilates helped me throughout the class. For people who have never taken any Pilates classes, I recommend booking a private or taking a beginner SPX class. I got a great work out and the time flew by. Loved the music that was paired with the movements. I tried with Teresa the Ride and Glide SPX class. Teressa made spinning fun and I loved the class was 50 minutes. I think 40 minutes is too short for a fitness class. Back in New York City now. Will miss my SPX class and look forward to trying a similar Lagree work out in Manhattan. Although I did love the class, this Pilates purist can not give up her traditional practice. Nothing replaces Classical Pilates. I always feel longer, stronger and leaner after a Pilates work out. After Pilates Plus I felt stronger and leaner but my spine did not have the length. Definitely recommend Pilates Plus to others it will definitely reshape your body and the instructors are so much fun you some times forget how hard they are working you. read more

I'm officially addicted to Pilates Plus LJ! My New Years Resolution was to get into Pilates to strengthen my core, as my main focus is usually all cardio, with spinning and running. I've been going almost 2 months now about 3 times a week on average and have already noticed a difference in my body and core strength! Jess the owner is great, I took 2 classes this week with her and my other faves are Natalie and Jenna! They have great flow to their classes and good music! I have worked out for the last several years. I was looking for a different type of workout as I was burned out on just going to the gym. I tried my first pilates class at Pilates Plus back in February 2009 and I have consistently worked out at the studio for the past 5 months. Needless to say, I'm hooked. It is a hard workout, one of the hardest I have ever done and it is easy and convenient for me to get to the studio, complete my workout and go on with my day. This place is LIFE CHANGING! I was really doing it all and had been doing pilates elsewhere in San Diego and finally tried Pilates Plus and fell in love with the megaformer!!! I started coming pretty consistently 3x a week this summer and began to really see results after a month! It's only 40 minutes, but they maximize every minute. I've never had one bad instructor there and love every single one! They all switch it up so often which is so important when working out. This is not an easygoing Pilates class if that's what you want - they are going to push you so hard and kick your butt to the max! Be prepared to sweat! I've raved about this place to all my friends because it is truly going to change your body. You will see changes in your legs/abs/obliques because the workout is so effective. I still struggle so much in classes and have been coming here for awhile now! It's super hard at first, but I am telling you - do not give it up, as you won't regret it. Also, never be afraid to ask for help - they are good about coming around and correcting you, but feel free to ask if you need it! It takes awhile to learn the moves/form/structure. Also most other clients going are super friendly and will help you out. My only con is the price, but I always pay it because it's so worth it! I just sometimes have to wait for a good special, but always make it work because I can confidently say PPLJ works wonders! :) read more

I highly suggest trying their beginning class first. If you have never been on a reformer before it is a different feeling trying to stabilize yourself on a moving platform 1 foot off of the ground. The class goes by quickly so if you're new to the system you could hold up the show while feeling resentment from the regulars. This is a quaint location but the parking is limited (typical of La Jolla) and next to the busy Cottage restaurant. The workout itself is intense and oh so wonderful. Be prepared to sweat, shake and burn. Too bad it's only 40 minutes. There is no shower room so going to work or on a date afterwards could prove problematic. I enjoyed the class very much. The teacher was informative and very helpful. She also helped w/ my body position which was much appreciated. I am a fan of SPX Pilates but rated this studio 3 out of 5 stars because it took a long time to find parking (during weekend a.m) and it does not have a shower room.
