I won't name any names, but somebody in my immediate family lost the second smart remote for our keyless ignition car. He Who Shall Not Be Named insisted he would find it and when he didn't, he insisted he would replace it. Years later, I was still a paranoid wife with one car key to our only family car. I refused to pay hundreds of dollars for one key at the dealer, so I ordered two replacements online (used, but wiped) and took them to the dealer (mistake). Needed a 2014 Nissan Altima Intelligent Key with Remote start duplicated due to a lost key. Overall a good experience. The staff member took my existing Nissan Key and reprogrammed that one, and the new one, to match. Armen Lock had me in and out of the doors in 20 minutes. No appointment needed. The store is clean and offers water, coffee, and a computer to use while waiting. The cost was about $196 dollars including the intelligent key itself, cutting of the blade key, and programming costs. I also had a home key cut which was a nominal $3.50 or so. Although my overall experience was good, my issue is the difference of prices and the differing facts that I received from the two guys working there. The story: I called around noon and spoke to Armen who told me there was a *new* Nissan Intelligent Key in stock, and not to buy a used one online because there are usually issues/don't work. Armen gave me this breakdown: $120 for the intelligent key, $15 for cutting the blade key, and $79 for programming. I came in around 3 and talked to another gentleman on the staff. He told me the Nissan Intelligent Key they had was a refurbished one, but comes at a discounted price of $120. I asked how that could be possible if Armen had a new one for $120. He reassures me the key has to be $120 and goes to the back of the store to talk to Armen. He comes back to me, says the refurbished key will be $95. I say fine. He then tells me the price of the blade is $25 and the programming $79. I tell him that when I called, Armen told me the blade would be $15. He gets frustrated and says Armen is doing 5 things at once, but will give me the price provided since it was their mistake. Issue 1: I argued with the him that Armen told me not to buy used keys online, so why is he selling refurbished? He explained how the ones online tend not to be "unlocked" and are not returnable. The thing is, this store has to be able to "unlock" these keys either way. My existing key would have been in the "locked" state before they reprogrammed it to match the new key. Issue 2: When he offered me the Refurbished key, I asked to look at it. He stated its genuine OEM and said sure take a look. After purchasing, I was looking closer and noted that the blade key was an "Ilco" key inside, an American aftermarket brand. So I asked about it, and he said don't worry, we only purchase the Ilco blades because of the price difference. That's fine, but why didn't he mention that part of the key was aftermarket when I originally asked to take a look at the key? Issue 3: The pricing differences. Seemed like they were trying to make a buck off of me with that blade pricing. read more

Kinda of disappointed with my experience today. The last time I went there Armen, the owner, was there. He was really helpful with dealing with my needs. I was switching the housing on my master key and broke my transponder chip. He was able to program a new one at a great price and even cut my key for $5. He also mention that it's possible for him to remove transponder chips out of the key without breaking it. Today when I went in with the exact same situation, expect I did not have a broken transponder chip. Armen was not there, but the employee there said he could remove the transponder for me for $15. But there is no guarantee that the original key will not be damaged. I said fine and he went to have it removed. He came back in a few mins and told me he broke the chip... and he can have another one programmed for me at $20. $5 is not much money but this bothered me a lot. I'm paying $5 out of my pocket for his mistake??? He then told me to have the key cut would be $25. Even though Armen did it for $5. He was simply charging me $25 because he did not take the key blade out of the housing. Which I then did. But again he said there is no guarantee this key will work after being cut... he states that the key might not be up to "spec". I mean come on, Armen did the exact same thing but i never heard this no guarantee nonsense from him. The key was cut and it barely work, using the key it felt like I had to force it. The employee said that it's because it was not up to "spec". After wire brushing it, it was fine. Turned and unlocked without problems. I went on my way but not without one last comment that nearly ticked me out. " I would not recommend using that key at all." He said. My only suggestion is to call and ask if Armen is there. If he is, stop by. If he is not, avoid. read more

The lone, sole, only key to my new-to-me used 2005 Toyota 4Runner vanished between the truck and my office, 50 feet away. De-molecularized, thin air. Foom, whoosh, gone. Grrrr. I did a little research: (FYI, I'm a car guy's car guy, to the degree that I service a fleet of street and track cars, restore classics and build my own race cars essentially from scratch. I machine, weld, and paint all my own stuff - but can't make a transponder key) ...Which essentially said "The dealership will try to sell you a new ECM (engine control module) but you don't need it. Call a good locksmith who's invested in the tools and technology to cut keys from the VIN# and who can re-flash your existing ECM to handshake w/ the new keys" The next morning I called 2 local dealerships, both of whom spoke of these magical chipped keys, and the necessity to "Install a new computer"... After the truck has been towed to their location. First estimate: $2700 which lowered to a "or maybe more like $600" after I said "I said it's an '05 on which the ECM can be reflashed..." So I called Armen on the basis of a website w/ actual information and positive Yelps. I spoke w/ the owner who assured they could come to me w/ keys cut to code from my VIN #, and reflash the ECM to handshake w/ the new keys. $185 for the service call and first key, $40 each for additional keys. I scanned and emailed my license and title to verify ownership, and while they were very busy, Marco came after their office had closed. He arrived precisely when he'd promised, was totally personable and professional, and had 3 fresh coded keys in my hand in about 15 minutes. A solid 5 star rating for Armen! read more

Summary: I had a situation with my motorcycle (05' R6), where I left the keys in Georgia, when I moved up to Maryland. The motorcycle was stuck inside the Uhaul truck, and I had only few hours to return the truck. I called 9 locksmiths in the area, and Ara was the only one who actually did Motorcycle locksmithing. He helped me get the bike off the Uhaul truck and even helped me get it back on the truck. Customer Service: Ara was excellent to work with. He was polite, soft spoken and a very reasonable person. It was pleasant to work with him without any stress Shop: Very clean, and informative. They also did car keys with transpondents, so I got an extra key made there as well (it was on special for $35 for Honda). Motorcycle Key: Ara did his magic in only 20 minutes or so, got me two keys and I was on my way. The amazing thing was that he made the key out of nothing, and without taking the fork off the motorcycle (which several of the other locksmith requested of me). Price: Very competitive, if not the best in town. Conclusion: If you have any car or motorcycle key needs, I would highly recommend Aramen Lock and Ara (owner). Fantastic service. My elderly father accidentally locked himself out of his house in the dead of winter. From Las Vegas, I found Armen via a Google search. Great service and almost the cheapest price I could find! Lost my original key of ford fusion and want to have a spare key. First called Ford dealer and they wanna charge 260 for one key (160 for key and 100 for programming). Then called several locksmiths with quoted price between 80-125 with my own key (got from ebay for 17 buck each). Then I found this shop from online search and went there. Very quick and charged me only 60 bucks for 2 keys (5 for cut each and 50 for programming) Strongly recommended! read more

My daughter lost her duplicate key for her Toyota Prius and since she was moving away, I felt she should get a second one. A Toyota dealer quoted us a very high price so I called my regular mechanic. He recommended a locksmith who didn't normally carry the key we needed but bless his pea pickin' heart, he recommended we contact Armen's. Boy, am I glad he did! They were super, courteous on the phone, quoted the price over the phone which was going to save my daughter over a $100 and they had the keys in stock. And they could handle it the very next day. She drove the car over to their place because for this type of key, they need to electronically coordinate it with the car. Very responsive and great service! Somehow, I had "misplaced" my two key fobs/keys for my 2012 Accura RDX - leaving me only with a "side" key and no fob. After reading the positive reviews for Armen on yelp, I gave them a call. They were able to order the key fobs/keys which arrived three days later. I made an appointment for 9am and I was on the road by 9:20am with two key fobs/keys which will not be 'misplaced." Service was fast and courteous and much cheaper than going through the dealer. Seriously, these guys are as good as the reviews say. I lost my keys, which included the only key to my 1995 Nissan. The locksmith up the street from me doesn't do auto locks, but they recommended Armen Lock instead. So I called them up. The guy on the phone confirmed that they could make a replacement key, quoted me the exact price I ended up paying, and gave me a 1 hour window for the service guy to arrive the next day. He wanted to take care of it the same day, but I was at work. Well, next day the guy actually arrives a little bit early and gets right down to work. He opened up the door panels and the trunk lid, did his magic, and 2 hours later I had a new set of working keys that actually fit better than the worn down 20-year-old key I had. Had basically a Yelp "textbook" experience with this firm. Broke the key to my 10-year Nissan in half, with half stuck in the trunk lock while I was in a Giant parking lot. Whipped out my smart phone, clicked on my Yelp app, looked for locksmiths in the Rockville area. Found Armen Lock and called them up. (The #1 firm on the list "didn't do cars.") Talked to John, who kindly got the information he needed from me (I had to text my registration, license photo, etc. to him) and arrived with his truck in less than 30 minutes. Extracted the half stuck in the lock and eventually produced two fine copies of my formerly split key. He also lubricated the lock for me. So, problem solved quickly with a gentleman who could not have been more cordial. And it didn't cost all that much considering the fix I was in (helped that it was a weekday morning).
