Such a great store with wonderful life size outdoorsy decor. They also do a superb decorating job…read morein the Christmas spirit. Store is organized by outdoor activities--fishing, hunting, camping, etc I especially love the foods section that includes chili kits, rubs, jerky and sauces. A downside is often the absence of shelf pricing. I've left many things behind due to this. Lots of wonderful clothing, especially for cold weather--thermals, fleeces, fllannels. Has outdoor appliances like dehydrators, grills, tools. Even has a toys section. Saw some great sales today $15 fleece jackets, 25% off lots of clothing, etc. Certainly worth a gander for everyone.

This is a review for their archery department…read more I decided recently that I wanted to get back into archery (which for me means traditional target shooting with a recurve bow). After receiving terrible service at a local shop in Gainesville, my boyfriend (who was buying this for me as a birthday present) and I came here. Upon walking into that section they really only have compound bows for bowhunting on display and some very expensive all wood recurves hanging behind the counter. There were plenty of people behind the counter though, and one man asked if we needed any help. We told him what we were looking for and that I was a novice archer who had last shot about 6 years ago. He promptly pulled a box out from underneath the counter, told us the price and asked if it was in our range. We said yes and he began putting it together for us. After he had put it together and showed me how it was done, he had me draw it. I said it was fine and more than I shot in High School, which is what I'm looking for since my archery teacher was always pushing me to try a stronger resistance. He then showed me a product called a "whisker biscuit" (I know, sounds lewd right?), which is basically a special attachment to help with nocking the arrow. It holds the arrow in place, meaning it won't fall out mid-release...which I agree is a good idea to have for a novice...especially since this has happened to me! So he attached that on for us. I asked him about a sight and he led us over to where they sell them and selected one to recommend at my re quest of a reasonably priced one. He picked one out and I looked at it, and really liked it! Fiber optic sight with several different pins to mark different distances so there is no need for adjustment once you set them. After attaching everything we had picked out he asked if we need it taken back apart and we did so he obliged. He let us know there was a sale on some arrows and we picked them up as well; he cut them to the proper size and then we were ready to check out! I know it kind of sounds like he was trying to upsell me on a lot of things, but he did listen to our concerns about price and we knew exactly what we were buying. When recommending a product he told us exactly what it was and why it was a good idea, but never said it was a necessity. At any time we could have requested something cheaper or different and I'm sure he would have obliged us with no problem. Great experience, excellent service. Will definitely come back if I need anything. I'm just sad they're in Orlando and not Gainesville :(

Sadie at REI Winter Park is exceptional…read more She spent over an hour helping my fiancé prepare for a hiking trip to Costa Rica, carefully explaining the differences between trail shoes and guiding her to the right option for the terrain she'll face. Her knowledge was impressive, but what stood out most was her attention to fit -- she evaluated width, length, and even recommended going up half a size based on the shoe's construction and the demands of long hikes. She doesn't work on commission. She simply cares about getting it right. Sadie is exactly the kind of professional who keeps us coming back to REI.

In a recent time I finally decided I would invest in som hiking shoes, so it was really nice to have help from an employee when I chose several pairs, and then she brought out and extra pair that she said are more comfortable, and well I ended up purchasing that extra pair, thanks to her thoughtfulness. They have just about everything you need here for your backpacking, camping or hiking trip. But it can certainly get spendy. It's all the super high quality brands here so the price does not budge. There's a few sales here and there but that's why I wouldn't shop here so often. But once in a while it's nice and even to get inspiration for outdoors adventures. Something else cool about REI is they offer classes to members & nonmembers to teach you about backpacking, survival tips, and how to prepare for certain trips. I'm taking a free class for how to prepare for summiting Mount Everest Base Camp, how cool!

Baseball season is here so we stopped in to look for some batting gloves. Selection is fair,…read morehowever, pricing was $10 more for the same brand pair we just bought at the competitor down the street. There were no customer service people in that particular section, but we found it pretty quick since it was in the front of the store. We ended up with a purchase from the gym equipment section and found check out to be pretty quick. The cashier was friendly and asked if I had phone number registered for rewards which I did. He asked if I wanted my receipt which I appreciated since not all places do that. Location of the store is not the best as it is tucked back in the Milennia plaza where there is a lot of traffic. But its a good place to shop if you know exactly what you need and don't mind paying higher prices.

We were assisted by David, who was really great with his recommendations. They no longer have all the inventory out in the store so you basically select the shoe or shoes that you're interested in and go to the kiosk, which is on the extreme left side of the shoe area. This store also has a wide variety of everything sporting goods, beach and camping gear, and beach a sporting apparel (and at decent prices). Oh, and by the way, the AC was a tremendous relief to the FL heat wave thanks to DSG's!!!
