I'm transitioning from having a fast-fashion closet to a smaller capsule wardrobe with timeless quality pieces. Unfortunately, I have an unusual body shape that off-the-rack clothing looks a little off - and I can't afford bespoke. So I'm shopping for high quality pieces that are more expensive but bringing them in for tailoring as I can afford to purchase them. She is honest and will tell you if something will or won't work. She's even told me that the quality/material/craftsmanship of something was so poor it wouldn't be worth my while to alter it. It was more cost effective for me to just buy it new. And she was right! She also did my wedding dress - and she made me feel like I was wearing the most elegant and timeless piece I've ever owned. (It was a Carolyn Bessett-Kennedy inspired sheath.) Parking is in the lot next door in the auto repair shop but it's a bear pulling out when traffic is bad. She is very popular and has busy seasons but is very sweet and will accommodate you if you say you need something sooner. Very very highly recommended.

Immediately walked into a high pressure sales situation and found myself being fitted for a suit to purchase because "it's only a little bit more and you can wear it multiple times!" Halfway through the fitment I asked what the all in expense would be to have my question brushed off until the fitment was complete. It was double the cost of a rental and that's without shoes or a belt. Terrible experience and would 10/10 recommend men's warehouse instead (which is crazy to even say).

Because of his height, significant alterations were required, bringing the total close to $700, with a substantial portion going toward tailoring. I was told the clothing would be ready on March 20th. So I arrived at 6:00 PM on March 20th to pick it up. When I got there, the manager checked with the tailor and informed me the items were not ready. I then overheard that the alterations had not even been started. The work required included sleeve adjustments on the jacket and both shirts, as well as hemming the pants. I explained that I live in Northeastern Pennsylvania--over two hours away--and asked if the items could be shipped to me. The manager declined and instead suggested I wait about an hour. Given the amount of work still needed, and my schedule, this did not feel like a realistic or reasonable solution. What was most disappointing was the lack of acknowledgment of the situation. There was no apology and no effort to offer an alternative solution that would make things right. As a result, my son will not have properly fitted clothing for his first event. Overall, this experience reflected poor communication and customer service, particularly given the clear expectations that had been set.

From my first couple of experiences with Gilman's I have been really impressed. In addition to a veteran's discount, their customer service is spectacular. I dropped an order off this morning and asked for their recommendation on how to get a ketchup stain out of my shirt, I had just been eating in the car. I was asked to hand over my shirt and within fifteen minutes the stain was removed, the shirt pressed, and I was ready for today's meetings. My first time using this cleaners for washing and applying patches to a shirt I use for some…read morevolunteer work I do up in northern NY. They have a sign that says "expert" tailoring but I'd say it's more like "good enough" tailoring because the patch work I got done was in fact good enough but certainly in no way an "expert" application. While I could have complained about it when I picked it up I'm ok with the good enough job since the shirt I'm using and the patch I needed applied would have been nice if it were placed with proper alignment but I'm ok with the way it was applied for my needs. If I'm ok with how it was applied why am I complaining? I'm not necessarily complaining but pointing out that this place doesn't have "expert" tailoring and I also didn't want to go without the shirt another week since I needed the shirt in the coming week. If my patch needed perfect accuracy for a job or something of a more serious nature I would have requested it be fixed. If you need expert tailoring I'd probably go elsewhere especially if you need patches applied to any article of clothing. Will I be back? Sure, for washing services only because if I need more patches applied I will most certainly be finding another tailor to do that work for me. This was my very first time doing business here and this review is my initial impressions and experience. Maybe next time a patch job will be perfect, sadly I won't allow a next time for patch work or any tailoring.
