Probably the worst version of "Mexican" food I have ever had, in many years of eating My exican food. Arnando's chile relleno was a pile of fried ground beef, under a thin layer of cheese. That appeared to be all. My wife asked "where is the chile relleno?" And the bar tender said "That's it . . . see?" And under the pile of ground beef was about a one inche square of fried poblano pepper, buried. Absolutely untecognizable as chile relleno. Virtually everything see me ed to be based on ground beef. Stopped here randomly on a Thursday night roadtrip pit stop. Place was big, with a huge bar & some outdoor seating. That night it was not very busy and waitstaff was friendly. The salsa was really good & the chips were fresh, salsa had just the right amount of kick for us gringos. Chicken in the Pollo fundito & chicken quesadilla was so tender and the portion sizes were perfect. I loved the Pollo fundito! Not only is it fun to say, but, I mean, cheese!! Ground beef tacos, enchiladas, & chimichanga were all good, beef was well seasoned but not spicy at all. The 4 of us were stuffed but we got the churro desert to share and it was amazing. When we got back to our hotel for the night we noticed the hotel staff had this place up as a recommendation in the area. They were right! And to think we almost stopped at Cracker Barrel! read more

Drove 30 miles to try this place. It was a waste of gas and time IMHO. The meat reminded me of shoe leather. The rest of the food was tasteless. We went for Wednesday wings as were traveling up the East Coast. The price was very good $6.99 for 10 wings. But the wings were horrible dry and overcooked. The bathroom needs totally updated the toilet seat has bare wood and the door is falling apart. I do not recommend eating here. read more

Ok, this place was odd but ended up being decent. You walk in to a million signs on the glass at the entrance and once you get inside you face an enormous bar and begin to wonder if it is a nightclub or restaurant. We were promptly seated and our server was wonderful. Chips, queso, salsa all excellent. The menu was odd but lots to choose from. I got the chicken enchiladas which were not the best but portion sizes were great. The shrimp entree was super spicy! The margaritas for $2 were exactly what you would expect for $2...and ask about different sizes because they discount all sizes for happy hour which we didn't know until the end. This place was busy! Service was still great, though. We were a party of 4 and sat right away. Happy hour was active, so that explains part of the crowd there. Chips and salsa were brought out right away, and the chips were fresh. We ordered house margaritas and they were delicious! We ordered and our food was delivered quickly. Portions are large, and prices are very reasonable. This place MUST make its money off liquor because the food isn't that great! Had a quesadilla with shrimp and beans, both had no flavor. The soft tacos you use to make the quesadilla weren't soft-actually became stiff! The service was OK. Was ready to go. Asked for tea to go. Server didn't return. I went to the hostess stand to pay (server didn't inform me where to pay). Server saw me there & brought the tea. Ambiance was loud-turn down the music during the day when the place isn't full! We went on a Saturday night and were seated immediately. It is A large restaurant with many TVs showing sports. There is a square bar in the middle Of the restaurant. They bring you free chips and d Salads. The salsa is fresh and tasty. The menu has so many options. I ordered 2 carne asada tacos and 2 Al pastor tacos with beans and rice. They brought chicken instead of the carne asada. When I told the server, he took the chicken tacos and returned with carne asada about 10 minutes later. We had a Margarita on the rocks and a frozen banana margarita. They both seemed to have no liquor in them. They were $1 off during happy hour. Happy hour is offered in the dining room. Placed a to-go order online , which informed me of the time it will be ready . Arrived and waited 20 more minutes after it was supposed to be ready . Then had to throw out nearly all the food. Ordered 3 of the lunch specials of the mixed fajitas, with flour tortillas, Nacho Supreme with Chicken, Churros, and Mexican street corn. Everything was bland , the flour tortillas smelled horrible, was raw and rubbery . Only thing edible sorta was the Mexican street corn . Only manage to snap a photo of the mixed fajitas before having to throw out nearly everything. A couple years ago I tried Armando's and then the food was good . We came for Taco Tuesday. Can't beat $1 tacos! You can pick chicken or beef. My husband had some of each. He loved both! I don't eat meat so I requested beans in the tacos, and they were happy to make the substitution for me. Delicious! This place is near the hotels off 95 so it was a nice and friendly place to plop after a long drive. I didn't want to walk by myself from the hotel so I drove the 0.2 miles because you never know!! This is a transient travel restaurant. The place was clean but dated. The staff was over the top friendly. The 4 stars is for the staff. 3 stars for the food. And let me say they took care of me when some guests were a little loud, drunk, and raunchy. I was by myself and can handle it and was not concerned. I loved that they told me to flip the coaster over if I felt uncomfortable or needed assistance to my car. It actually made me a little more aware of the situation and not to engage. It's not always easy. You don't want to be rude but you don't want to encourage. Looking out for solo dining women!!! Thank you!! Very well trained staff. After driving 11 hours I probably would've eaten anything. But the food was good. I was given salsa and chips. The salsa was homemade with fresh cilantro. So good!!!!! I ordered the garlic shrimp entree. They were tasty with mushrooms and onions. The mushrooms were canned. A ton of minced garlic. The rice wasn't very flavorful. The tortillas were served warm. I may have liked it a lot more if I hadn't eaten so many chips and wasn't exhausted. This is good for what it is - a place to eat after driving a million hours. read more

This is a case where the half star rating is needed. I wouldn't call this a full 4 star place, but it's slightly better than 3 stars. I'm gonna round down in this case. The place was hopping on a taco Tuesday. Now, call me stupid, but I didn't think of that going in. Further, the server didn't mention it. $1 tacos and margarita specials had the place hopping. I wish I had gone the taco route. This might be a completely different review of I had. The service was good. We did have to ask for silverware and napkins but they were quick to accommodate. The food was decent. I had Enchiladas Verdes. It was a bit bland. The chips were good, the salsa was, again, a little bland. The margaritas were a little weak, and the regular size was no more than a 4 ounce plastic cup. My second round was a little larger (maybe 6 oz) and had a little more kick. Overall, I'd say try the place, but don't expect top notch Mexican fare. read more

We love to find local restaurants while traveling. I'm so glad that we read the reviews and stopped for dinner at Armando's on our way home from Florida. Don't let the full parking lot turn you away. Traveling with an overnight stop in Santee. Reception at our Fairfield recommended Armando's. Close enough to walk. We got carry out. Burritos Deluxe which are two good sized tortillas with a choice of chicken or beef. Also Chori Pollo which is chicken and Mexican sausage. We stopped here since it said there were vegetarian options. The bean burrito and the cheese enchilada were indistinguishable. Liquid bean and cheese mess with no solids. ( maybe a bean?) The cheese quesadila on the side had slightly more solidness. It would be nice if there were some offerings of onions, peppers, spinach or mushrooms, something to bite into as a vegetarian. The only hot Mexican food I've found on the east coast. Even the chips and salsa come out warm and fresh. Service is always good and the owner is really polite and helpful to his team. My husband and I ate there yesterday! Wonderful service, awesome food and great atmosphere! I had grilled chicken breast on rice covered with grilled onions/peppers and cheese. Delicious!
