Only been here once as I live far from this area. New and well kept gym. The staff are great. The hidden gem (to me) is the $3000 Assault Fitness treadmill that is athlete powered and matches whatever speed you make your legs move. Go to the back and it's in the weight room. read more

Ok, so Armadillo Boulders is my home away from home. They are an amazing gym that has room for everyone. Whether you are single or have a family they have the hours and events that work. Great gym! I'm from Long Beach and learned to climb on the west coast and have been very spoiled by the diversity of climbing gyms in so cal. This on is on par and actually exceeded my expectations of an sa bouldering gym. The setting is great and had a great diversity of climbing styles. There is a pink traverse in the back that was so much fun! All the problems are color coded by the holds to know the rating which makes it interesting but a little confusing. Everything is very new so hopefully they keep it as clean as it is now. The only negative is the amount of kids running around unsupervised which can make it really dangerous. They should try and regulate that a bit more as I had to tell some kids to move out of the way a few times. Parents should also be a little more on top of their kids, though it's fun for kids it's also a space to work out and kids shouldn't be just running around on the mats. All in all excellent facility with great problem setting, if I was in sa full time would for sure be a member! read more

I loved this climbing gym! Although this was my first real experience at a climbing gym, I can tell they had quite the works. Not only do they have climbing walls color-coded by difficulty, but they also have a workout room, a classroom, and a finger holds board room. All of which are available to you for the price of a day pass. The staff are super friendly and upbeat people who are more like friends hanging out with you. The other climbers are all very supportive as well. There's no shame in being a beginner. I don't even care how much my forearms hurt days later. I wish I could come here everyday! I have been here a handful of times and have mixed feelings about it. I did an intro class that was very unorganized and the staff seemed a bit unsure about what they were supposed to do, although they were all very friendly. It gets very crowded here which can be a bit frustrating, lots of waiting around. There is a nice sense of community here, lots of regulars that come here often. read more

It's a bouldering gym with a yoga studio and small regular gym inside! They have climbing gear, drinks and snacks as well. The staff are all really cool, they change the routes up in a good schedule. Its chill for hanging out and working, working out, dates, group hangs, the works. Only in San Antonio for a week, got an itch to go climbing, I am so glad I found Armadillo Boulders. It has tons of climbs in all grades. As a beginner I really liked their setting, V0s were totally doable with a few challenging ones, and the V1s were challenging with a few that I couldn't complete. I like how they are color graded, so all the greens are V0, red V1, etc. For each grade there is also a really good mix of different slopes, styles, and grips. It's the first gym I've been to who sells shoes, so I bought my first pair. They were very helpful with the sizing/fit, and they have pretty much every size in the back. The gym vibe was great, it's very bright, clean, good layout, cool woodwork (one of the climbing walls had a crazy inlay) and upbeat/chill music. All the staff and climbers were super friendly, great community here. Will be back if I ever come to San Antonio again. read more

I've had the pleasure of climbing here since the mid-July soft open. Despite having zero prior climbing experience I was greeted warmly and instantly benefited from the tutelage of a knowledgeable and nonintrusive staff. The facility is superb. It's spacious, inviting and perhaps most importantly well-ventilated... this is Texas after all. The "problems" (routes) are color coded by difficulty and offer an array of choices for beginners and advanced climbers alike. Armadillo Boulders also features affordable cold brew coffee and kombucha on tap. A day pass enables use of a dynamic weight room and a multi-purpose room that features pilates, yoga, abs classes depending on the day of the week. I just learned, if not re-learned, today that, "bouldering is a form of rock climbing that is performed on small rock formations or artificial rock walls, known as boulders, without the use of ropes or harnesses" (Wikipedia), but it's more than that. It's a skill, an art, a way of life, zen if you will, where anyone can come meet the best part of themselves, or be re-introduced; that's right, the best part of yourself that will come back to you like a faint childhood memory. When you enter you will see a wonderful escape of pure amazement and strength, a place where if you're courageous, or even just curious, enough to climb to new hights and meet a side of yourself you haven't nurtured since childhood. Which is why I now know my son took to it so well. Today was his birthday and he was the happiest I have ever seen it. Great great facility. Clean diverse walls and extremely friendly staff. I took my son for the first time and he loved it. Easy to follow tape routes a nice little gym to utilize if you do t want to climb that day or even want to incorporate something else. Clean bathrooms, rentals and room to move around. What a fun and different way to spend a Saturday afternoon! There are no ropes, you just climb with big mats under you. At first, this was terrifying, but after I saw a few people fall and get up like it was no big deal I felt a lot better. They have different paths up the walls that are shown by color. There is a sign with the level of difficulty of each color. They have an easy section to start on which when I was there was filled with kids. The most difficult walls are basically tipping you so that you are horizontal and parallel with the ground. There is also a weight room and yoga room. They have a schedule posted with classes and if you buy the day pass you are welcome to attend a class on that day as well. A day pass with shoes is 21 dollars. If you have your own climbing shoes it's 17. The only downfall was my hands were in a lot of pain and that is why I wanted to stop. Overall, I would highly recommend! read more

Armadillo Boulders is a great spot. My husband is the more experienced climber out of the two of us, and there's plenty to climb from the beginner range to the advanced range. The V0's are doable for a beginner like myself, and the V1's are an awesome challenge. We have a month membership so we plan to be back lots! Great gym. We started going during a Christmas special for a 1 month membership. My kids and I have never climbed before and the gym does a good job of balancing different climbing levels. The employees are great and welcoming to all skill levels. The climbing community has kind of a cool vibe. More experienced climbers often give tips to less experienced climbers, including kids. We ended up signing up for a monthly membership which is a bit pricey for the first person but cheaper for each subsequent person. It's worth it for us since the kids (and parents) get in good exercise and technology free time. read more

This climbing gym has the facilities and staff to make the gym very welcoming and clean. They do sell merchandise and liquids and provide shoe and chalk bag rentals. bouldering walls are challenging and marked to leveLs of difficulties. There is a strength gym, a moon wall, and a yoga room. The location is less than a mile from the Pearl part of downtown San Antonio. The cost is reasonable. I will start off by saying everyone I met here - from staff to climbers - was super nice and well intentioned. That said, this gym has a few loose ends to tie up before it gets to the ranks of the big gyms in Houston and Austin. First of all, it was HOT inside. Really uncomfortably hot. They had fans but it was still brutal. Also, the customer service at the front desk was weird. Despite being an experienced boulderer (I brought my own shoes and chalk) I had to do a safety orientation, for which I had to wait ten minutes until another new visitor was ready for their safety orientation. The actual orientation could've definitely been done by video. The grading here is tough, particularly on the overhung areas - climbs marked V0 definitely felt more like a high V1 or low V2. There were no comp style routes or slab/balance problems, which led to not a ton of creativity in route setting. About 45 minutes before closing, a man came to vacuum behind every climber - which led to a weird vibe and was also ineffective, cause then another climber would just get the mat all chalky again. The biggest issue is safety. On the kids wall, if you top out, there's foam covering sharp edges. This is a huge liability and safety hazard. In the training area, there are a ton of exposed bars and posts. On the plus side, the walls are definitely smearable (despite being wood) and there is plentiful seating. Parking was smooth and the space was clean. Staff members roaming around were super nice. This gym has a ton of promise! Once they iron out the kinks, it'll really take off. read more

Honestly this gym is way over priced. They only offer bouldering and a day pass here is 2x what you would pay for a fully equipped gym (with top ropes) in any other city. Right now armadillo is the only "climbing gym" in town however I can't imagine them competing when an actual gym gets here. read more

This place is so tight! I got myself a 30 day membership (40$ special until Christmas Eve 2018!) and I'm loving it! It's a little smaller than what I expected, but they got some really great climbing routes for all climbing levels! Besides the bouldering, they offer finger and upper body strength areas to practice in, CrossFit, and yoga! Good place for indoor rock climbing for beginners and people who are totally new. Essentially the only place in San Antonio for now(Arguably UTSA and some other gyms, such as Lifetime fitness exist and have climbing walls) Cannot speak for advanced climbing, though there were definitely people climbing that seemed talented.
