Minus two stars for their lack of masking. Employees and majority of patrons do not to wear masks in the height of covid-19 (mid Jan 2021 during the spike of cases after winter holidays). Friday after 5pm is $5 drop in, a popular time, and not only is there lack of masking, but also not much room to maintain 6ft distance in the front area. It felt like a college party to be honest. I'm giving this review three stars because I support rock climbing, the workers are nice, and the $5 Friday is a great idea. read more

$5 after 5pm on Fridays! This is such a great deal since it rounds up to about $8 with shoe rentals compared to their usual rate at about $15 (w/ shoe rental). One thing that I do wish for a huge improvement is in the customer service. It was my best friend and I's first time bouldering and our first impressions of the workers were quite lacking... I wished we would have gotten at least a 5-minute intro to bouldering or tips. All we got were our shoe rental and that's about it. It was kind of intimidating since everyone seemed to know what they were doing, but I just went with the flow and it was a lot of fun. I wished I could have said the same for my best friend though lol. She didn't land properly and she left home with a fat ankle... This gym is by far not that big, but for intros like me, it had a nice variety of difficulty so I was okay with it. They also have really clean restrooms with showers so you do have the option to freshen up after your time here. Quick tip for the first-timers here, The District is attached to a Midas. Overall, I might come back for their Friday night deals, but other than that time, probably not. read more

Excellent Climbing Gym it may not be the largest one around but what it lacks in size is made up with the extremely professional and helpful staff and the great community of climbers that frequent their establishment. If you give them a chance I'm sure they will become you favorite gym/ hangout spot, it's only $45 a month seem a bit cheep for the enjoyment it brings and the athletic ability you will gain. This gym is great. I live in NY, but come to SA occasionally and would 100% get a membership if I lived here. Setting is great and the vibe is super chill. Wish I could just up and transport the gym across the country. My only issue is with one guy who works there, "Josh." He's basically just a super awkward. Yells at me and others while climbing. Shows his chest off like I'm supposed to be "impressed" by his "muscles." Loves to get attention. I come to climb, not flirt, dude. In the pic I attached I'm pretty sure he's trying to get my attention with his butt - but like, what butt? Also he hit me in the head with the vacuum cord. Are you a child, for real? Basically 100 points for the gym. Minus infinity and counting for this one guy. I hear he's the setter or whatever so I guess they have to keep him. *shrug* read more

Because The District is currently San Antonio's only dedicated bouldering gym, it can get away with being a small facility that gets crowded fast. (I would estimate it's maybe 500 square feet of climbing space). However, this place is going to be in serious trouble once inSPIRE and Armadillo Boulders open (the latter scheduled for Spring 2018), because they're both going to be so much larger. However, for what few resources The District does have, I think the employees do a decent job of retaining repeat climbers. The routes are continuously taken down and new ones put up, so I think the entire facility will have completely new routes in one month's time. There are also overhangs and slabs for those who are into that. Upstairs, there are a few pieces of equipment to train the gymnast inside you. Often there's also a cat or puppy just hanging around the front desk. A good post climb relaxer! read more

I found this gym when my sister asked me to drive her to inquire about membership. when I walked in and looked around a bit i was like: 'I love this place it's like an ultra fit adults play house!' :) Been coming almost every night since. I like that the stay open all day so I can come in the middle of the night if I can't sleep. :) They also offer a wide range of classes which provide great ways to get into extreme shape which is what I'm aiming for. read more

Bouldering/crossfit/aerial silks/yoga gym. It seems like a lot (and it is) to pack into a small space (tucked between an auto shop and residential neighborhood off broadway), but they've managed to organize it well. It's conveniently located a few minutes away from the pearl, and while they have a dedicated parking lot, it quickly fills, so there is plenty of street parking in the adjacent neighborhood. Or, it's a decent walk from the pearl parking lots under the overpass. I only make use of the bouldering walls, so that's what I'll review. Bouldering is climbing low heights without a harness or ropes- the floor is padded with fat landing pads for safety. They have an impressive variety of routes for such a small space, including overhangs, and offer 4-5 routes suitable for beginners (or those who are out of practice). A day pass is $12, and they offer a military discount of 10%. Would recommend for a small group activity, active date night, or just good old fashioned exercise. read more

It's been over 4 years (and several visits) since my last review. And things have definitely changed at The District. The bathroom smell is definitely gone. The random jocks that would thrash around and muscle their way up the walls are also gone. The day pass price has gone up, but that's to be expected. It's still cheaper than day passes in Cali, but also still about 1/5 the size of most Cali gyms. Plus, their $5 Friday night deal is nice. Never the less, The District has changed for the better. There is a decent variety of problems - from slabs, to slight aretes, to roofs - since expanding and rebuilding parts of the rock wall. This was actually done...a couple?... years ago. I forgot to update my review back then. The crowd has changed, too. It seems like climbing is becoming more popular and regular in San Antonio. My only 2 concerns are: 1) The steep wall is too slick. The wall itself (not the holds) are slippery or not tacky enough. When I flag, thinking my foot will stick a little, it doesn't. Instead, it slides. Maybe I kept hitting odd slick spots. But I stopped smearing after the first slide. 2) The setting is steep. There seems to be a big jump between 0s and 2s, and again from 2s to 4/5s. Maybe it's because the wall space is limited (the slab wall is about 10 ft wide). It was just surprising to feel how hard (on the ego) the 2s, 3s and 4s were. :) Anyway...another long review for The District. Well done, guys! The gentlemen behind the counter clearly lacks in social skills & does not understand the benefits that great customer service brings to any business. A couple friends and I took a beginner's AcroYoga class with Mark and crew to further our partnering knowledge. Everyone was willing to help us newbies in the class, and no one was weird about being split into different groups. The class went above and beyond my expectations, and we even got "play" time after with the advanced acroyogis -- super fun. Their schedule online seems to be filled to the brim with classes for every skill level whether it be rock climbing, yoga, or even parkour. Definitely lots of unique tools/equipment to utilize as a playground for adults versus a typical gym. Tips: Located behind Midas off Army Blvd, not Broadway. This place was super cool when I first started going (still is) there's so much to do, and the owner I believe his name is Scott is a nice guy, even addresses me by name. Membership is a bit pricey.... But the gym does have a lot to offer from climbing, to ninja warrior course and a weight room up stairs. But I just couldn't afford to pay the 40-something a month and still have to pay for my golds membership, honestly I wish the district had more workout machines, cause instead I would have kept my membership and got rid of my golds. But I can't blame them, they aren't a typical gym.. The only thing that really bothered me was over the time that I had my membership (almost a year) a lot of different people stared working there. Some were friendly, but I just didn't like how much freedom they had with doing whatever they wanted when ever they wanted. I would be climbing a route and even if I just took the slightest break from it, they would start unscrewing rocks and changing things up for their own climbing. And I know what days they would change up the routes so I avoided those days, and I avoided prime hours also. These guys would just change things up whenever they wanted, no matter the time or day. I started to really get annoyed with the way they acted like they ran things at the gym, which also played a factor in me canceling my membership. read more

This is a great gym with modest space for rock climbing and yoga in the back area. You don't need climbing shoes you can rent them if need, just go for a great fun workout. There are various different color-coded grades "levels" for the inexperienced climber to the most advance to choose fun. Overall nice little space to have fun for a night out with friends or a novel place to train with your significant other when your regular gym gets too repetitive. read more

Considering how big San Antonio is, I would have thought San Antonio had a much larger selection of rock climbing facilities. Uh, kind of no, but then again I've only so far been to the District. It was fun, albeit very challenging for little weak me who hasn't done enough upper-body strengthening apparently. If you're not a rock climbing aficionado, I would suggest coming here on Saturday nights when it's only $5 per person, in addition to the shoe rental. It was fun! The District has one large climbing wall, another two walls, and a horizontal wall. My only thing was that they didn't think it necessary to make sure there was a mat underneath us amateurs and didn't feel it necessary to have a harness on me, the frightened kitten. Shouldn't safety always come first?! Oh wait... I signed a release form. Gee, how nice for the District. Despite that, the facility has a simple Crossfit section and a Ninja course outside. One girl I met while playing around used one of the aerial tissue acrobatic things, which is far harder than it looks. The District doesn't provide any rock climbing chalk so be aware that even if you're a beginner, you're gonna need some. There are some regulars that are pretty nice and they may be wiling to give some. read more

Members are super friendly, and the community at this gym is just so encouraging. Nobody has those major egos, that you might find at other "gyms", and instructors are seriously top notch. I've tried the yoga classes, and the instructors are so knowledgeable it's sort of insane. Only being in town for 2 weeks, I never expected to be welcome with open arms. I learned quickly that Malcolm, Michelle and Matt were great at their craft. Always encouraging and willing to talk to anyone that walked in the doors. I did CrossFit and 1 inversion class- opened my eyes to techniques I never thought of... An excellent gym for people who know what they are doing. I had some 2.5 hours to spare while visiting San Antonio, and I dropped into the District. I had a really good time. From the lobby the place looks small, but not all of the wall area can be seen from the lobby, and there were lots of really good problems once you start climbing. I am not a very good boulderer, being more of a top-rope person, but I had a really great time. I found 15 problems I could do with my mediocre bouldering skills (V2), and there were others I would have wanted to work on if I were returning with fresh strength. I met patrons who were very much mutually supportive and pleasant (and supportive of me, the stranger in their midst). I also did a lot of laps on some easy problems and nobody objected to my hogging of that part of the wall. The route setting was creative and interesting, even at my lowish level. Another nice thing: I did 50 climbs and did not have a single hold spin. There was some silk one could swing on (or do more impressive acrobatics if one knows how to), which was cool. And $12 for a day pass (plus equipment if you don't have your own) is a pretty good price. One or two routes was supposed to be marked AF ("all feet") but wasn't. Not a big deal: one can just ask staff. I am not sure I would have felt at home if I was a complete beginner. The vibe the place gives off is that it's for people who already know what they are doing. (E.g., the orientation didn't give any advice on how to fall.) Because I had a dinner engagement right after my 2.5 hours, one of the reasons I picked the District was because they had showers. There was even a clean towel available (and a basket to throw it in after using it), though I couldn't find soap (I had brought some shampoo with me, so I didn't bother asking the staff for soap). read more

I am a member at this gym, and know this is the only quality bouldering gym in the city. The grading is consistent, place is always clean, and open 24/7 to members. There are 4 big sections that are replaced throughout the month, one every Sunday; After 4 weeks there's all new problems. Great campus board upstairs and 5 different finger boards next to the weight area. If you want good music, nice people who take it seriously and an affordable membership, go here. I went looking for a new way to workout. I used to climb so seeing The District on Instagram, and their awesome rock wall, I was excited. Then I find out they have a $5 open gym night on Saturday. I'm there! The staff was super friendly and showed me around the deceptively large gym. I was shocked at everything they had. I was a little scared to try out stuff without some instruction but was drawn to the silks. I tried some stuff on my own but didn't have a whole lot of luck. A sweet girl came in and offered to show me some moves. With some instruction, I was able to achieve the moves. It was so exciting! Before I left, I was offered some samples of a tasty bite. For the life of me I cannot remember what it was but it was delicious. All in all the District is the cure for the common workout. Don't be surprised if you see guys flying by, flipping over furniture or people swinging from the rafters. read more

This gym is really cool in regards to the equipment it has. You can do just about any type of movement or exercise here and I loved it as my place to workout everyday. I would give the facility itself 5 stars, but have chosen only 3 due to a disrespectful employee. His name was Josh and he was very disrespectful to my husband (who is in the military). Also, when I went to the gym to cancel my membership (due to having to move for the military) a couple of days before it would renew and charge me again, Josh was working and took care of it but told me I couldn't workout there for the rest of the month I had already paid for, which makes absolutely no sense. So the gym itself and other employees- five stars But I'd give this place one star if the only person working there was that kid. read more

I wish they had more to offer for the price of this gym - here's why: If you're going to charge more than a mega gym or the same as a boutique gym, you're going to have to offer great utilities, and this is where the District falls short. The class schedules and instructors change too often, so it's hard to have a consistent and reliable schedule. It seems like there is a staffing issue. I went to one silks class with an instructor, but then she had left and there was no class the following week (which I had no way of knowing about). Online class postings aren't too accurate, either. (Or at least they weren't when I went a few months ago.) I believe it's open pretty early/late. I had heard 24/7, which is neat. Again, however, the doors were locked and no one was at the front desk when I tried a late night gym run. It's a weirdly casual attitude there. In terms of facilities, there isn't much for cardio, more for climbing and crossfit. Because the classes are infrequent and the space is fairly small, I don't think it's worth the cost. It may be the best fit for someone looking to climb and weight lift, but otherwise, I'd suggest Gold's or a studio with frequent classes. read more

I found out about this gym through some members who come up to Austin for acroyoga. They invited me down for their own acro jam on saturday and I had a blast. This gym is designed with function in mind, not commercial, so you're not going to find a thousand stair steppers and ellipticals. It's got everything your average crossfit box has, olympic barbells, bumper plates, kettlebells, resistance bands, two atlas stones (60 and 110lb if I remember correctly), tons of pullup bar space, gymnastic rings, swiss balls, medicine balls, and more I can't recall off the top of my head. I'm not a climber but there's a heavy interest at this gym so I'm sure they cater nicely to that crowd. There's also a growing group of acroyogis and lots of mat space to play and grow. They've also added aerial silks to their climbing area, so if you've got that interest then boom The owner is super friendly and the staff are as well. I give it a 10/10. It's stupidly cheap and if I lived nearby would join in a heartbeat. read more

I love the district. I wish there was one in Stone Oak out by me. I would live there after work. I used to climb 5-7 days a week before moving to San Antonio but unfortunately this is the only rock climbing gym in San Antonio (outside of Lifetime Fitness). The people here are very friendly. Just make sure you call to get let in the door. An hour of driving is just too far for me for now. read more

When I was in San Diego, there was no shortage of indoor climbing gyms, but when I moved to San Antonio, I was sad to see that there weren't many here, none that I could find at least. A member of this gym turned me on to it. I have only been twice bit I already got a membership and I think bit is more than worth it. The folks that work there are really nice people. They are helpful and down to Earth, no pun intended. I love the atmosphere and the many classes that they offer. I plan on going to this place quite a lot in the future and would advise anyone who is a beginner, intermediate, or even advanced climbers to visit at least once. Even the other member are awesome and more than willing to talk with you, provide pointers to improve and just be friendly over all. Keep it up guys. See you again soon! read more

Overall poor bouldering gym and quality of staff members. This is a very small gym. It became crowded quickly with just ten climbers in and around the gym. Multiple handgrips were also coming loose and would begin to spin when you place your weight on them -- a huge safety issue. Although one guy was quick to fix it with a drill. My wife had to rent shoes and they did not have her size and gave her one size larger. She was the only girl in the gym at that time and they should have had all the smaller sizes shoes available. Anyone that has climbed before knows that a tight fitting shoe is vital to good grip and practice. Lastly, the employees at the counter were rude and unwelcoming. One employee sitting at the reception desk "eyeballed" my wife and I and did not respond when we said hi. The employee behind the counter was not much better. After I paid with my credit card, instead of handing it to me, he threw it on the counter. We won't be returning. read more
