One of the best workouts you can do to see real results. The trainers are great and will scale the workout to your ability!

Crossfit Lackland - Coach Iz and Coach Curtis

I have been to many CF boxes and this is by far my favorite one. Jason (owner) fosters a family…read moretype environment while kicking your ass. His coaches are very professional, hard working, knowledgable, and are machines. Celeste is one of the coaches there and first off, she is in a constant beast mode. This chic puts the dudes to shame! The other coaches are great too (Curtis, Jesse, Alex, I'm sure I am missing a few). The athletes that crush WOD's at CFL are motivating, friendly, and welcoming. Every time I am in San Antonio, I visit every day I can. They also have a smoothie bar, you can purchase supplements, and apparel there too. So you're probably thinking why I only gave it four out of five stars. Well, when I attend a CF box, I expect filacio and to be doing lines of blow off of strippers asses. Unfortunately, this does not happen at CFL, but I have been told my requests will be accommodated. I would even accept doing blow off of hot chic CF athletes, but call me crazy!

Being a garage gym guy I needed to see how I would fare in the daily competitive environment that boxes offer (you just can't get that working out alone or with one friend most of the time). While I have nothing negative to say about any of the gyms I dropped into, I do have much to rave about when it comes to CFL. Facility and equipment: Pretty straightforward here. They have all the equipment you need for a CrossFit gym. They have it and they have a lot of it. You won't be sharing bars or looking for space on a wall, blah, blah.. The facility itself is quite large and this is important when it comes to safety with large groups and the intense nature of CF workouts. Let me add that I've witnessed regular cleaning and maintenance of this facility and equipment. Oh, and there are 4 restroom/showers, a kids room, a separate kitchen area, and an entirely separate room where I would hide when I just wanted to do my own thing and avoid the hard work (thank you Jason). Parking is plentiful. Programming: Never had a bad thing to say about the programming. I am a Physical Therapist (selfless plug) and although I do not adhere to smart practices all the time, I can confidently say that programming here is competent enough that risk from overuse, or consecutive days of doing the same thing, just wasn't present. There was always a dynamic warm up that was relevant to the metcon and just enough strength and skill work to keep you maintained (if you want to be better then you def have to do more but most gyms will tell you that anyway). There is a ton more that I can add however I'm halfway through writing a novel now and I have a few more items to touch on. Coaches: Loved 'em all. Responsible and approachable. I'd say I made some of my best friends at this gym (not biased at all). If you've been part of a box before, you know there is always turnover in this area but I would argue that this is a good thing. New opinions and new flavors help growth. Owners: Jason is a motivator. You'll hate him, you'll love him, whatever. He won't let you quit without a push. He will help you find a new you. He didn't help me because I avoided him most of the time (I'm lazy, and arrogant). In all seriousness, I can't even begin to describe how grateful I am to have met Jason and his family, so I won't. You'd have to drop in and formulate your own opinions. I look forward to training or pcs'ing to San Antonio again for many reasons. These guys are one of those reasons. Hope you lasted through this review, trust me it could have been longer...

HOTWORX - San Antonio, TX - Alamo Heights - Inside infrared sauna

I joined Hotworx the week before Thanksgiving and I have been loving it. I wanted to wait and…read morereview it after I had adequate time to learn its pros and cons. I joined with my daughter and my husband. 1. The concept is awesome. I love working out in an infrared sauna and sweating my butt off. By the time I walk out of my 40-minute barre or yoga class, I am dripping with sweat. 2. I feel like it is a safe environment during Covid b/c when you walk in you might encounter a couple of people who are wearing a mask, but once inside your very own heated sauna you are by yourself. This is excellent. I have seen the occasional person without a mask. Aren't they everywhere? LOL 3. You have many options of workouts available to you: Barre, Warrior, Yoga, Pilates, Core, Spin, Blast ( a type of cycle) Buns, and Bands. And if for some reason you don't want to do any of these classes just pull up your favorite youtube workout on your phone and get at it. 4. Once you walk into the sauna and the workout begins, you can turn the volume up or down on the instructor. The volume dial is located on the ceiling. I suggest you follow along with the instructor the first time you do the class but then the next time turn her down and put your own tunes in your ears and take your workout experience to the next level. You aren't tied to doing what she's doing anyway, you can do your own thing once you are in the sauna. They don't care. 5. They are open 24 hours a day so forget the excuse that you don't have time to workout. 6. There is an app for you to schedule your workout for the next day and if for some reason you need a set schedule just ask one of the friendly people who work there and they can put it in the system for you. 7. There is another app that allows you to open the door should you go at 10 p. Staff is only there during normal working hours. The rest of the time you go in and out on your own. Don't worry there are security cameras on the premises. 8. There is a shower and a bathroom. 9. There is a vending machine with healthy snacks and drinks and mats, towels and bands for rental should you forget yours at the house. Rentals are around $5. 10. If you want they will spray yummy essential oil spray in your room. I love this. And if you don't want it, they won't spray it. I also bring my own sometimes. 11. Did I mention it's very affordable to join? 12. Rooms and equipment are wiped down between each and every workout. When you finish with your room, there are disinfectant wipes and a towel with disinfectant spray for you to wipe down every single thing you either touched or dripped sweat on. If you are there at night you are expected to make sure you leave everything clean and wiped down for the next person. You can lose your membership if it is found out that you are leaving things dirty in the bathroom or failing to uphold your part by not cleaning the rooms and equipment once you are finished. So far most people seem courteous and do their part. Only once I noticed a dirty bathroom when I was there early in the morning and the next day the staff had placed a sign to remind people to please be clean and not be a dirty rascal. 13. You can bring your phone into the sauna just keep it away from the vents as it will overheat. Mine has only overheated once and now I have learned to keep it on the opposite wall from the vents or by the door and it does not overheat. That way I have my music from Spotify or I can watch my own workout video to workout to instead of watching the hotworx classes. 14. Bring water and make sure it has a closed top. 15. The staff is super friendly. Shout out to Julie, Joanna, Mario, and Ryanna. You guys are the BEST. 16. You can use a fitness tracker and link it to your Hotworx app to track your calorie burn. The apple watch works best but other Fitbit devices work too. Those were all the cool things and positive things. Here are the only downsides and they aren't really a downside. 1. You must purchase their mat and towel as regular mats may melt into the floor. This is a potential downside simply b/c their mats cost $100 and the towels are approximately $50. Also for the buns class and the bands class, you will need to purchase the bands used for the buns class and the bands used for the bands class. I have purchased only the mat and towel since the buns class is still challenging w/o the band and I haven't done the bands class yet. I intend to get these products in the future though. Tip 1: You can get Hotworx mats on eBay for $42. Tip 2: If you are going before 8 or 9 am arrive early b/c the sauna may not be turned on and it will need about 10-15 minutes to reach its apex. 2. There is a mini gym on site. It has kettlebells and free weights but only 1 to 2 people can work out in the space at a time. 3. Tall people might be a bit cramped since sauna ceilings are 7' so reaching overhead might prove challenging. Go check Hotworx out for yourself. Do it now!!!

I've been a member at hotworx for years and it's absolutely despicable how filthy this location is…read more Employees don't do a single thing here besides sit on their phones at the front desk. This is by far the dirtiest location I've ever been to and it's not even close. No one cleans anything, and it's not even that big of a building. Hair is constantly EVERYWHERE, the shower area is full of it and has been for months. They use the same dirty old rug that is never washed. The exhaust is absolutely caked in dust, looks like it's never once been wiped clean. Dust and dirt is sitting on all the sauna walls. Water filter has been red and needing replacement for quite a while. Vending machine is completely bare. It's like they don't care about this location at all as long as they get your money...which is lovely considering rates just went up a few months ago even if you've been a member and paying the same price during that entire time. Machines are constantly broken and antibacterial wipes are constantly empty. Sad to see what was once an amazing location turn to what it is now. No one at this location cares about the gym or its cleanliness.
