Helotes Crossfit(HCF) is more than just a place to "workout" the owner, and trainers there treat it like a family atmosphere so much so that I now refer to it when talking to people as my HCFF, Helotes Crossfit Family. I started in September 2012, and from the very beginning I was welcomed with open arms by the other members and trainers. And that is another thing, the trainers do not look or speak to you like you are a "client" or "member" like so many of your run of the mill gyms do, but rather refer to you as an athlete and treat you as such no matter what your skill, or strength level may be. Rick Damiano, the "box" (that's what a crossfit gym is refer ed by) owner, is also invested in your day to day health. He will frequently run internal diet and fitness competitions, with prizes and accolades at the conclusion. There is also an unspoken competition between all of the HCF athletes during each WOD (workout of the day), once the clock starts we are all trying to beat each other, however, when some athletes finish before others, like so many finish before me, they are always there to cheer, and spur you on to the finish. I'm 37 years old and i have never been stronger, more flex able and more motivated in my life. No Regrets! Before joining Helotes CrossFit I was a member at a large fitness club and also participated in bootcamp workouts. I was content but my husband wanted to try something new and he found Helotes Crossfit. We visited the gym and met with the owner, Rick. He is very nice and full of information. I was hesitant to join because I was not familiar with Olympic lifting; it's not something I did in my group classes at the fitness club. But... we stopped by the next Saturday to try a short workout and stayed to watch the Saturday morning class. We joined the next Tuesday. I was nervous to attempt the Olympic lifting but going through the elements classes with the trainers (who are awesome) put my mind at ease. It has been almost three months and I have no regrets. I am very happy with the results and my husband has lost close to 20 pounds. In addition to the great workouts, I have found that the people who belong to this gym are friendly and encouraging. The trainers are attentive and ensure everyone is getting their best workout, no matter what level they are. I followed CrossFit for a long time before actually getting in to it. I, like others, contacted various boxes near my home. None of them returned any calls or emails EXCEPT for Coach Rick. This was not a secretary returning pleasantries and offering me to come visit for a price. It was the actual owner of the box. It was immediately very personal and comfortable. I joined after the first visit and have never regretted it. Everyone welcomes "newbies" with open arms. The trainers and Coach Rick are selfless in their work. They expect you to push yourself further than you think you can be go, but they do so with your safety and needs in mind. Since I joined, the attendance has grown substantially, but there has never been a time where I have felt like I was lost in the crowd. Helotes CrossFit takes the meaning of community to heart. Back in August, my old crossfit gym closed and I had to start the search for the right crossfit gym for me again. I was stressed. However, after lots of searching I found Helotes Crossfit and I love it. I felt welcomed from the very beginning and already feel like i am accormplishing things for me health and fitness wise that I had not graduated to before. In just a matter of two very much committed months I PR on my half marathon time with a 1:49 time. I have a lot of fitness goals that I am wanting to achieve and I know in my heart that I have found the place that will get me to those goals one of which is to compete in crossfit one day. I've been a runner for the past 15 years, running countless half marathons and a few marathons. After turning 30 and going back to school a few years ago, I began to put on weight and adopt unhealthy eating habits. Helotes CrossFit is a great gym. The owner and trainers are professional and knowledgeable and on top of that they are just really good people. They genuinely care about each person and they work hard to make sure the athletes learn and adhere to correct form and get stronger without injury. Helotes crossfit has been one of the greatest changes in my young life soo far!! I was tired of the old gym scene and when my friend suggested helotes crossfit i soon went to the free intro workout, and i was hooked! I have been working out with Helotes Crossfit for almost 5 months. The staff is super friendly and really cares about your progress. The owner Rick is around frequently and is always super encouraging and truly cares about your goals. This gym is a bit of a drive for me, but I couldn't imagine changing gyms. I live in Boerne, but drive to this Crossfit gym 4 days every week because of the positive attitude and excellent coaching. Rick is the owner, a great coach and a great all around person. I have to modify many of the workouts due to an old injury and the coaches are always there to help with modification ideas and form.
