I have been to many CF boxes and this is by far my favorite one. Jason (owner) fosters a family…read moretype environment while kicking your ass. His coaches are very professional, hard working, knowledgable, and are machines. Celeste is one of the coaches there and first off, she is in a constant beast mode. This chic puts the dudes to shame! The other coaches are great too (Curtis, Jesse, Alex, I'm sure I am missing a few). The athletes that crush WOD's at CFL are motivating, friendly, and welcoming. Every time I am in San Antonio, I visit every day I can. They also have a smoothie bar, you can purchase supplements, and apparel there too. So you're probably thinking why I only gave it four out of five stars. Well, when I attend a CF box, I expect filacio and to be doing lines of blow off of strippers asses. Unfortunately, this does not happen at CFL, but I have been told my requests will be accommodated. I would even accept doing blow off of hot chic CF athletes, but call me crazy!

I've been away from San Antonio for several months now however this will be my first review of…read moreCrossFit Lackland. I visited and spent time in 7 different boxes across San Antonio. Being a garage gym guy I needed to see how I would fare in the daily competitive environment that boxes offer (you just can't get that working out alone or with one friend most of the time). While I have nothing negative to say about any of the gyms I dropped into, I do have much to rave about when it comes to CFL. Facility and equipment: Pretty straightforward here. They have all the equipment you need for a CrossFit gym. They have it and they have a lot of it. You won't be sharing bars or looking for space on a wall, blah, blah.. The facility itself is quite large and this is important when it comes to safety with large groups and the intense nature of CF workouts. Let me add that I've witnessed regular cleaning and maintenance of this facility and equipment. Oh, and there are 4 restroom/showers, a kids room, a separate kitchen area, and an entirely separate room where I would hide when I just wanted to do my own thing and avoid the hard work (thank you Jason). Parking is plentiful. Programming: Never had a bad thing to say about the programming. I am a Physical Therapist (selfless plug) and although I do not adhere to smart practices all the time, I can confidently say that programming here is competent enough that risk from overuse, or consecutive days of doing the same thing, just wasn't present. There was always a dynamic warm up that was relevant to the metcon and just enough strength and skill work to keep you maintained (if you want to be better then you def have to do more but most gyms will tell you that anyway). There is a ton more that I can add however I'm halfway through writing a novel now and I have a few more items to touch on. Coaches: Loved 'em all. Responsible and approachable. I'd say I made some of my best friends at this gym (not biased at all). If you've been part of a box before, you know there is always turnover in this area but I would argue that this is a good thing. New opinions and new flavors help growth. Owners: Jason is a motivator. You'll hate him, you'll love him, whatever. He won't let you quit without a push. He will help you find a new you. He didn't help me because I avoided him most of the time (I'm lazy, and arrogant). In all seriousness, I can't even begin to describe how grateful I am to have met Jason and his family, so I won't. You'd have to drop in and formulate your own opinions. I look forward to training or pcs'ing to San Antonio again for many reasons. These guys are one of those reasons. Hope you lasted through this review, trust me it could have been longer...

After everything shut down they did their best to make classes available online then they added short videos to their website so I could make my own workout at home that fit my schedule since all my kids were home. Even now, there's the option to take all their classes through zoom. I love the classes. They are very challenging and the instructors always give options to make the exercises more or less difficult depending on what you need. Plus, Sensei Jackson has ways of applying lessons in class to the real world. Some of the things he's said have made all the difference in my attitude during this challenging time. I'm almost 40 and in the best shape I've been in since high school and have more confidence than I've ever had.

Anybody who knows me knows that Joyride is my happy place! Something about being in the dark, with great music, pushing yourself to the limits, and the positive "words of wisdom" from the instructor at the end of class that really provides you with a soulful cleanse. I recommend Joyride to all; I want everybody to have this experience. The world would be a better place if we could all have this experience a minimum of once a week. I am a poor educator so I am not able to afford the unlimited membership but just being able to go once a week gives me the positive vibes I need. I have rode at Joyride via a 10-Class Groupon once before which I believe you can renew after 6 months of not being active; because I could not wait that long to get my Joyride fix I am currently riding via ClassPass (http://class.ps/mTD1d) which is as low as $30/per month. The $30 p/month membership will give you 2 rides (@6 credits per class) and maybe tryout Black Swan Yoga down the street to use the rest of your monthly credits. Do yourself a favor and make Joyride part of your routine. You will definitely not regret it.
