I hadn't had an eye exam in about six years, and while waiting in line at the Crimson Cup across the street, it occurred to me that it was high time for me to do so. I made an appointment for 9:00 AM, which is right when they open, and check-in went very smoothly, and I was in the office with Dr. Humphrey within about five minutes. I was informed at the outset that they don't take my insurance, but realistically that's not their fault at all, and I was fine with paying the $144 for the consultation and scanning. Dr. Humphrey was truly great -- she has a very kind and calm manner, and is soft spoken and gentle with administering the various optical devices. It was clear quite early on that my eyes were perfectly fine, which was welcome news, as I have a family history of glaucoma, and almost all of my family members wear glasses. I've had occasional day-long blurriness in one of my eyes for quite a few years (i.e. since *before* my last eye exam in 2014), but while Dr. Humphrey couldn't say definitively what the cause might be, she made a number of simple suggestions to see if those will help, and to return if the problem persists. Finally, while my visit wasn't very long, it felt like the staff were all friendly and harmonious. There was just a good vibe among them, and I'm guessing that's a perk of it being a fairly small practice. Overall, I was fine with paying out of pocket for a good experience, and will recommend my contacts-wearing girlfriend switch over to this optometrist as well. read more

My wife and I have been clients of Arlington Optical for about 5 years and two sets of glasses each. Today my wife picked up glasses and sunglasses from the Trunk Show. Her day was made by the owner and all around great guy,Tim McNemar. He took the time to adjust her new frames and make sure that everything was perfect. He also readjusted my Lindberg frames that had recently taken a huge blow from a normal life event. If you are interested in great service and superior products please seek out Arlington Optical. This lovely, easy to find gem of a shop for eye checkups and glasses was one of my very best finds of 2022. It was easy to set up an appointment, the upscale decor is lively yet peaceful, but most important, the entire staff is first rate. The checkup with Dr. Leslie felt comprehensive and I loved looking at the picture of the inside of my eyeballs - added entertainment. She got my prescription right on too. Time to find the correct glasses, Linn was personable and professional all at once and guided me to make the correct choices. Linn measured me for my new Lindberg glasses, then when they came in customized the frames further. Now that I have lived with the three new pairs of glasses, using all three each day (regular, computer, and reading), I could not be happier. I originally doubted Linn's advice to make the nosepiece match the sides on the computer glasses (think zoom meetings: royal purple!); turns out I was dead wrong! So glad I followed her advice here (sensing that she as a professional who is more familiar with the frames could just possibly know more than me about it). The glasses would be quire inferior the boring way I envisioned. She was also right in the style of the reading glasses as well as the other two. Thanks, Linn and everyone there! Everyone here is excellent in their care, whether it is doing an eye exam to get the prescription just right or repairing my glasses, for free, each time I come in. Plus free refills on eye glass cleaner !! If you are buying your glasses here you may think it is a little expensive but the care and follow up and free services are definitely worth it!! I've been going here since I was a kid and they have been beyond wonderful. I get my eye exams, frames , and sunglasses here. They always adjust and repair for free!! They know me by name and are so easy to communicate with. I've never had an issue with them and they have frames that are so unique! Friendly and experienced staff selling a lot of independent premium eyewear (Lindberg, Zero G, Gold and Wood, ic! berlin, Tag Heuer, Maui Jim, etc.; real designer frames like the "rich and famous" wear, not just Luxottica crap with designer labels) for a fair price. I don't know if there's another shop in Columbus with a similar selection, but their inventory and service was good enough that I had no desire to bother shopping around. Rick nailed it. He made short work of finding frames that fit my face and style, provided objective and specific input on my top few selections, and didn't try to sell me more lens than I needed (I have a minor prescription and usually don't wear glasses). Lee followed up with me after "sleeping on it," and was great as well. They are an out-of-network VSP insurance shop, so you can still get some discount, unlike some other high end / indy / boutique shops I've been to. read more

I would normally just pop in to their Neil Ave location, where I'm a patient, to pick up a spare pair but they're closed on Saturday:( I called this location and Tommy told me to come on in. BUY HERE OR ELSE! I tried on a pair of frames a few months ago that I really loved, At the time I wasn't ready to buy because I hadn't gotten my prescription. A few months later I called to find out the model of the frames (I knew the brand). I was told they were out of the model, so I asked "I understand, but what's the model name at least?". She told me they don't release that information! That's absurd, I understand they carry that brand exclusively here in town but they don't even carry that model any more so why would it matter? I guess if they don't carry I'm not allowed to buy it online? Horrible support. I understand business is business, but I'll take mine elsewhere. read more

Unfailingly, everyone I have come into contact with at both of their stores -- from the receptionists to the eye doctors to the shop owners -- have been professional, friendly, and exceedingly helpful. I was first attracted to Arlington Optical because of their wide selection of unique and creative frames, as they tend to carry a more interesting assortment than your average "mall" eye store. But what keeps me coming back -- and I find myself back there often, looking for the latest acquisition -- is their customer service. We took them here, and while they could not fix them right away, they found a solve for him so he could wear his glasses the remainder of the trip free of charge. I came here to get safety glasses which are fully paid for by my employer. I've been through the process before with another optician and never paid out of pocket. The optician was very condescending and rude throughout the process and unhelpful. In the end, I walked out after they wanted me to pay $25 on top of the dispensing fee that my employer pays in order to sell me glasses that my job was paying for through a program that this optician participates in. I said, "No Thanks", and left. Long story short: I came in to get glasses that I wasn't even paying for, and they still managed to scare me off!! I have written Angie's List about Arlington Optical. In my judgement, there is no better place to get glasses or have them repaired. This goes for eye exams and contact lens as well. I have been a loyal customer of Arlington Optical for over 25yrs. I first used their services when they were located in Ohio State's Medical Center. Because of my eye problems, I usually get new glasses every other year. Never have I had a problem with Arlington Optical. Their staff goes out of the way to make sure I get glasses that fit my face/bone structure,hair color and completion. Arlington always has the latest eye-wear styles as well as decent pricing. I am fortunate to have vision insurance. Arlington Optical goes out of their way to process and follow-up if any additional paperwork is needed to process my vision claim. After reading the review submitted by "Sweet Mary Magda" or I should say "Sour Mary Magda", I simply had to write this review to refute her statement. I have alwyas been 100% satisfied with Arlington Optical. Over the years, I have referred many friends and colleagues to Arlington Optical - never have I heard a complaint from them regarding any type of service they received. On a final note, my mother had macular degenerative disorder. Tim McNamara, the owner, took good care of her and was even kind enough to loan her a reading machine at no cost. She used it untl her death last year at age 96. The reading machine brought her much joy - all from the kindness of Arlington Optical. In my opinion, there is no better optical store. I tried to buy glass frames at Arlington Optical this week and did buy them there three years ago (bad experience with aloof staff and overly-priced frames) but did not have a good experience either time. This week when I arrived it was clear that the staff is still aloof and pretentious. The frames are all in glass cases now so you can't touch them, and the staff won't let you browse and consider frames without a sales woman escorting you. I guess they think their customers are there to steal, not buy. I won't go back. The feel of the store is snobby, unfriendly, fake courtesy and disdain for their customers. read more

The doctor was really nice, on time and efficient. I was prescribed my first pair of glasses ever, and the person who was assisting me in finding frames was not very helpful. All of the glasses are in the case, and she had to hand them to me rather than letting me get them on my own. She made me feel after trying on 10 pair or so, that I was overstaying my welcome. I took my prescription across the street to LensCrafters and had a great experience picking out frames. read more

I just purchased my new glasses from the Lane Ave location, and Deb Apple helped me with my selection. Apparently, lenses are not lenses...I had purchased my old glasses from a chain, and they were not very good quality and had become badly scratched over the 3 years I had them, As a result, my vision was impaired, and night driving was problematic. Deb and Tim McNemar spent quite a bit of time aligning the reading and distance portions of my new lenses to better suit my needs, and I have to say that they did an excellent job! My vision with the new glasses is crystal clear, and I feel as if I have new eyes! read more

My mom and aunt have always raved, but this was my first time there. I will definitely be going back. Why is this place different? They protected me from myself, that's why. All of their carefully curated frames are displayed around the place in closed glass cases. They assign you a consultant who looks around with you, listens to your opinions, asks you questions, then you sit down and they bring you frames. They give you honest opinions about how you look, listen to your feedback and bring you more frames to try on based on that. I loved it because I normally try on 10,000 frames when I walk into a frame store and none of them look good and it's overwhelming, then I just leave without buying anything. I've had a consistently good experience at Arlington Optical. Although I am not adventurous about new styles, Tim McNemar is really skilled at picking frames that look good on you. He was also willing to help me select a pair of less expensive "work" frames in addition to my "good" frames. I stop in frequently to have my glasses adjusted & cleaned and never feel like that's a hassle for them. I think all of their staff are top notch and many have been there a long time which is always a good sign.
