Friendly staff and the opticians are always kind and efficient. While they don't have the most modern frames to choose from (I got to eyes on high for the frames, their sister location), they're an easy appointment because they're small, quick, and friendly. Scam alert!!!!!!! I have gone here for years and now they have decided to make an optional $35 retinal scan a requirement to remain a patient. They weren't getting enough scans obviously so decided to make it a requirement. My daughter told me they made her get it. I didn't believe her till they tried that same thing with me today saying it was now a requirement. They cost themselves a whole family with this. My insurance is the best there is and if it was medically necessary it would cover it. There are too many options out there to let them make you spend and extra $35 just because they are money hungry. read more

A friend recommended Harris Optical to me after I complained about the "uppity attitude" and rudeness of the entire staff where I had previously gone. I believe that Dr. Sherrie Reed is now the only optometrist there. I find her warm, caring, relaxed, thorough and competent. I love the informal atmosphere. Dr. Reed Maybe some think a doctor should be cool and standoffish if they are competent and professional. If you're like that, this is not the place for you. read more

Years ago I bought a pair of glasses from Harris Opticians. People still stop me because of the stylish frames. I went back today to get a new pair. The optician who "helped" me kept glancing at her watch. After choosing frames I asked her what the price would be after applying my vision insurance. She initially told me she couldn't do that and then (apparently seeing my expression) gave me an "estimate for the after-insurance cost. She was to order a different color of the frame style for me to look at the next week. After this disappointing experience I went to a different highly rated optician. TWO very knowledgeable and pleasant technicians spent over an hour helping me find frames I liked. The price with insurance was more than $250 less than the Harris optician's estimate. Granted it was the Friday before Memorial Day but my impression was the optician at Harris just didn't want to be there. I won't go there again. read more

Small operation with excellent customer service. Felt like I received a thorough, professional eye exam.

They billed my insurance for two visits when I only went once. They claimed this was to check my eye health and to give me a prescription. NEVER has an optometrist office billed me twice for a single eye exam. I only went bc I get a free eye exam from my insurance...well now I have to pay for this mysterious "second" visit. Isn't that insurance fraud?! When asked they were unapologetic and treated me like an idiot. I've worn glasses most of my life...this isn't my first rodeo. Don't go here. Good Deals on Glasses: I've gone to this office twice over a two year period. The first time everyone was nice and very helpful. The second time, I was rushed and ignored -of course, my glasses broke when I was waiting on them being made. Above all the office is clean, med. sized and over staff is nice. The front desk person has been rude, quick to rush you out and even ignored people. (Maybe, if you're a returning client, you'd be treated better -you'd think after being with them for two years.) If it wasn't for this staff member I would have given this office 5 stars. You can find some good deals on glasses for a local optician office. If you're looking for more selection and more deals, take the time to drive a little further. This is the third time and last time that I've used this company for my glasses. They had a better selection for contacts that weren't available a few years ago. They had nice glasses, but a bit fewer selections than the Clintonville office location. (Which is now their only location due to a fire at this Grandview location) Very helpful with selecting a pair of new glasses. I was able to upgrade to a new material of eyeglass -which cost a bit more. But there was more included than buying the extras separately. UPDATE: I picked up my glasses and noticed I wasn't seeing better. I took them back in and they adjusted the way they were sitting on my face and sent me on my way, to see if that helped. They told me that if I was noticing the same problem to come back in. Well, nothing improved other than the eye glasses sitting better on my face. The doctor was there to test my eyes again. Well apparently, I went back to my old prescription and the astigmatism in one of my eyes disappeared?!? They were going to make my old prescription in my new frames. I felt like I was coming in with their error was my fault. I didn't even get a professional apology or a rush to correct the mistake/error or anything to make me feel like I was a priority as a loyal customer. I am NEVER using them again. read more

Went to Harris Opticians on the west side of High south of Farris. Everyone was so friendly. Dr Reed and everyone there treated me so well. I almost didn't want to leave. Then I got my glasses. I love being able to see again. Just a superb experience from beginning to end. read more

My first few visits at Harris were good. Nothing out of the ordinary either positive or negative. The staff was hit and miss as far as competence and both doctors have slightly odd demeanors, but overall, the only thing I had major complaint for is that they do the glaucoma test at the reception desk, then ask you to sit down in the waiting area. So I have to sit in the middle of the room totally blind until called back. Weird, but not a dealbreaker. Then the problems began. First, Dr. Furgerson prescribed me a toric contact lens for my extremely slight astigmatism (mind you, I've worn contacts for 20 years, and never had a toric lens). I gave it a try, but could not stand to wear it. He put me back in regular lenses, no problem. Not a huge deal, but was inconvenient to go back for a second fitting. Then, after that prescription expired, they wouldn't renew my prescription with 1-800-contacts. They claim a law changed and they can't. No biggie, I make an appt to come in. But, after biking all the way up to their office in 90 degree heat, I find Dr. Furgerson has left for the day, since the staff did not inform him I was on the schedule. There was virtually no apology, and they acted like it was my fault. In fact, one staffer was really quite rude to me and unwilling to help me at all, until she found out about a group I was involved in on a subsequent visit -- then she fell all over herself to help me in a way that actually made me even more uncomfortable than the rudeness. They got me in to Dr. Reed a week later. Fast forward a year. Dr. Reed switches me to Acuvue Oasys 2 Hydraclear lenses despite the fact that I'm fine with the regular old Acuvue 2s I had. I have NOTHING but problems with them. When I mention this, she kind of scolds me about my care of the lenses. I then get a new box. The problems increase DRASTICALLY. After some googling, I find the problems indicate an allergy to the lens. The office staffer I talk to says she's never heard of that, but agrees to put me back in my old lenses. But now I have to pay for another appointment because I've waited too long in the fitting period. Ok, that part is partially my fault -- I didn't pick the new lenses up within the 30 day window originally because I was out of town. But then it took nearly 2 weeks for the replacement lenses to arrive, and they wanted me to wait a 3rd week before they scheduled me. Despite the fact that for the first time in 20 YEARS I'm wearing my glasses every day, which is a major inconvenience to me (I don't see well in glasses, play a contact sport requiring peripheral vision, and commute to work by bike.) Every other eye doc I've gone to since childhood has had lenses in stock at all times (I have a very standard prescription.) They later diagnosed me with chronic dry eye as a result of another medical condition, which Dr. Reed made some rather offensive comments to me about (like I can help the things that are physically wrong with me). That was the last straw, and I'll be switching doctors. There are just way too many other options in Columbus. EDIT: After changing doctors, guess what I found out about the Acuvue Oasys 2 lenses? A lot of people are allergic to them. Also, I don't have chronic dry eye either - that was also a problem of the lens allergy. So the prescription they put me on was unnecessary. (I am lucky to have pretty stellar insurance, but it was still $400 for a 3 month supply - completely wasted money.) read more

I've been going to Harris for my eye care for over 10 years. I keep going back because I like the cozy feel of the office, and like seeing Dr. Reed. I will say that they tend to be overbooked, and I've always had to wait a fair amount of time past my scheduled appointment to be seen. Since it is only one appointment every 1-2 years, I don't mind scheduling a little buffer time into my day, because I'd prefer to see a provider I know. Although they don't have the widest selection of frames, they do have a nice range of prices and styles, so I've always been able to find something I like. read more

I had my annual eye exam and refraction in April and got glasses from them, but not the progressive lenses I'd had in previous glasses from them and that I needed. I called and talked to Mel who saw from her records what I was talking about and said they would be replaced at no charge. Didn't hear from them so called and Lexi the office manager told me I didn't know what I was talking about, the glasses were fine. I told her I was the one who had to wear them and didn't appreciate her response. Then I hung up. A gentleman called back and said yes, he saw what I was talking about and the problem would be corrected. Last Friday I got my new, perfect, lenses, at no charge. Today I received a bill in the mail from them for my refraction in April. When I called to ask who they had tried to bill, because I have all kinds of insurance, I was told I'd have to talk to Lexi. Now it feels like revenge billing and she's the only one who can fix my problem. Well, it's unfortunate that there are so many nice people who work there because no matter how this turns out, I'm not going back. read more

Previously I had used Harris Opticians to fill the Rx of another doctor because Harris Opticians took my insurance. So when it was time to get a new exam and Rx I thought I would give them a try. When I made my appointment I made it clear that I had another appointment behind it and insured that I would be able to complete the exam in an hour. I was told yes. I arrived for my appointment and was given typical paperwork to fill out. I asked again if I was going to be OK on time as I had another appointment behind this one down the street. As I was filling it out one of the administrative workers asked me to sit down to do it. I was more comfortable standing to do it at counter height and offered to move to the end of the counter if I was in the way. She somewhat rudely said that she had to call a patient and couldn't do that due to regulations if I were standing there. So I moved 6 feet to another counter while she made her call. It seems if they are concerned with HIPAA compliance they should make these calls from the back. Because anywhere you sit in this small office you can hear them. After waiting about 20 minutes past my appointment time I was called back to the counter for a prescreening test. They did this right there in the admin area, it was an autorefractor test to get a rough idea of my Rx strength. I was then told the doctor would be with me "soon". I inquired again if they thought I would be ok on time. They said it would only take 20 minutes for the exam. I went back to the waiting area. 42 minutes after my scheduled appointment time I was called back by the doctor. She stated "I understand you have another appointment and need to leave soon?" I told her yes and asked if it was realistic to get the exam done in 13 minutes. She told me "No but we can start and then you can come back for the rest. You won't have to pay a second fee." I then said there was absolutely no point in doing 1/2 an exam nor any point in putting her further behind. I would reschedule. At this point her reply is "Sorry, emergencies happen." At no point prior did any of the staff tell me she was dealing with some sort of emergency (I would have realized it could be timely and rescheduled instead of sitting for 40 min before doing so). I rescheduled for a different doctor to get a faster 2nd appointment. Upon contemplation I cancelled this appointment the same night. There are many much more considerate places I can get my eyes examined at., and I recommend you do the same. read more

Harris Opticians have been our family eye physicians for many years. I have never written a review and figured it was about time I did. My family members have had nothing but knowledgeable, attentive, excellent care from the whole staff, with each visit. Their respect and caring concern for our eye health has resulted in a trust in Harris Op. staff at every level. I recently had my annual eye check-up. Appt., exam, glasses selection, etc. was all efficient and pleasant. Have recommended Harris to friends and will continue to do so. 10 Stars! That's what I'd give Dr. Sherri Reed, Tom Harris, and the rest of the staff at Harris Opticians if I could. My first experience with them was almost 10 years ago (I'd have posted this review long ago, but only recently got on to Yelp). I managed to scratch my cornea. It had been a couple of days and the pain was getting worse. It was late Saturday and my regular eye doctor was closed. My wife, who had been going to Dr. Reed for several years, had Dr. Reed's cell phone number and convinced me to let her call her. Dr. Reed agreed to meet me at the office on _Sunday_morning_ on her way to church. (Really, Sunday morning!) She examined me and started treatment. She warned me that if it didn't work, I'd have to go to a laser eye specialist to have the divot in my cornea mended. Her treatment immediately reduced the pain, the worst I think I have ever felt in my life. Over the next 3 months of close monitoring by her, the injury mostly repaired itself. Today, I'm only slightly aware I ever had such a painful injury and my vision has fully recovered. But that's not all. A couple years after the incident above, I was rear-ended on the freeway. I was hit so hard that the sunglasses I was wearing (which I had not purchased at Harris), despite hooking around my ears, were thrown off my head and thoroughly pretzeled. These glasses were special to me. I had worn them when I climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro. I took them to Harris on the off chance they could effect a repair. Tom Harris took them into the back workshop. About 20 minutes later he returned and my glasses were almost as good as new. I still wear them to this day. Oh, and how much did this miracle cost? Nothing! A freeby for a client. In addition to these two specific stories, I have only ever received kind, knowledgeable, expert care and advice from all the staff at Harris Opticians. If for some reason the prescription or the adjustment for my lenses/frames isn't right, they'll fix it for a year at no extra charge. (Ask them for the details of the warranty.) Perhaps there are cheaper places to get your eyes examined and glasses made (though I don't think their fees are at all unreasonable), but I'm willing to pay for the outstanding 10-star service I've always gotten from them. For the record, I have absolutely no association with Dr. Reed or Harris Opticians other than being a VERY satisfied customer. read more
