a month ago PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE GOING TO THIS HOSPITAL!! I PROMISE IT IS WORTH READING... DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY! They are the reason my dog passed away in severe pain!!! :'( I took my dog in because she got bit by a coyote on her stomach and her neck. My dog looked horrible, she was not breathing right and she couldn't even walk right from the wounds. I took her in to Desert Ark Veterinary Hospital and they examined her and took X-Rays and told me the bites did not cause any harm internally. They gave me some meds for my dog to take by mouth. First of all, my dog couldn't even swallow because of her bite wound on her neck. It broke my heart trying to force her to swallow the pills which were not even little pills. I had so much anxiety seeing her suffer that I ended up taking her elsewhere because she was getting worse, her breathing was more agitated and she was in severe pain. The place where I took her told me right away as soon as they saw her that she had PNEUMOTHORAX which is a collection of air or gas in the space surrounding the lungs. The extra air doesn't allow the lungs to inflate normally. One of the causes for pneumothorax is penetrating wounds, such as stabbing, gunshots, and BITE WOUNDS! The GOOD vet told me that my poor baby should have been put down the moment I took her in to Desert Ark Vet Hospital because she was already 14 years old and too weak to overcome this condition. The GOOD vet also said that she was suffering the whole time I had her following the coyote bites. Pneumothorax in dogs is very hard to survive and for the most part they end up putting dogs down specially at my dogs age. THIS PLACE DOES NOT EVEN KNOW HOW TO READ X-RAYS RIGHT AND THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO DIAGNOSE SOMETHING AS SERIOUS AS PNEUMOTHORAX!! I WISH I WOULD'VE KNOWN AND NOT LET MY DOG SUFFER LIKE SHE DID. I AM TORN KNOWING I WAS NOT ABLE TO DEFEND AND PROTECT MY BABY THE WAY I WANTED TO. :( This is not the way I wanted my first dog ever to pass away.... I get to pick up her ashes today... I can't even begin to say enough about the wonderful staff and service at Desert Ark Veterinary Hospital. My poor kitty lost use of his rear legs and they fit me in within an hour to see him. There were several possible causes and they were mindful of my finances in determining what the issue may be. We left with several antibiotic and an understanding that my kitty doesn't do antibiotics so they agreed to see him daily to administer the medicine until it was done. They, again, worked with me financially so this didn't leave my poor fur baby in a lurch. They have a customer for life and I highly recommend Dr Fraser, Dr Simons and all the staff at Desert Ark! read more

We brought a dog that we are fostering here and we were very pleased with the service we received. We came in on an urgent care basis and they got us into a room in about 40 minutes. The entire visit took 2 hours. Everyone was very pleasant and caring. There is a large waiting room, which is nice when there are several dogs with different temperaments. The place was clean and the doctor and nurse were very compassionate and knowledgeable. read more

I have been being my 4 pups here for many years. The Drs communicate very well and are great to work with.

Took my puppy in here for possible uti due to his urine looking like there was glitter in it. They did a urinalysis and I got the results about 2 days later. The vet left voicemail stating they found some crystals but could be due to having the sample in the fridge. Said he seems fine but could give me some other tips on what we could do. I called back and doc wasn't available so I left message to have her call is back. It's been 2 weeks now and we've heard nothing. read more

I would give them a zero right now! They know my dog! He has had cancer for 3 years he is 165 lb 13 years old Rottweiler with bad hips and he is terminal. He has had a mass in his ear for 3 years. They know it gets infected. It's pussing and stinks and is matting his hair. He cannot get into my vehicle. I asked for medicine for it yesterday being a Thursday and they said it has to go thru the director first!!!!! She's not in until Monday!! So they are so compassionate? They are going to let my dog suffer for 5 days!! It's discusting! Wow we have been with this group for years! And I pay them monthly for the care of my dog! so discussed right now! read more

Of the five years and 3 cities we've been with our dogs, this is easily the WORST vet hospital we've used. We initially went here because our previous vet (River Ridge) in Buckeye had been bought out by them and River Ridge had been great to our furbabies. The first red flag should have been the fact that no matter what we took our dogs in for (allergies, kennel cough, shots), they always insisted that we should do a $300 blood test for Valley fever, claiming any symptom we presented was because it indicates Valley fever. I took them to another vet to verify as this seemed fishy, to which the vet we checked with stated this was not the case. The additional and subsequent red flags were when we were prescribed medication for one of my furbaby's seizures. I asked if they would fax the prescription to Chewy as I ordered all of my pet needs from Chewy and their Chewy Pharmacy had the meds needed. This vet informed me they do not do faxes or work with Chewy Pharmacy, which I verified through my professional network in the pharmacy industry is completely their decision, not due to a regulatory or vet best practice. Which made sense, as the exact same medication and quantity of pills that was priced on Chewy Pharmacy for $20 (for the entire fill) was priced at $80 at Desert Ark. The final straw was when we went to board our dogs for the holiday weekend, the boarding place informed us that two of our dogs shots had expired a week prior. We had made the visit for the seizure issue just three weeks prior to the expiration date of the vaccination, however no one of the staff at Desert Ark (front desk, tech, vet) gave us ANY indication or notice that our babies' shots were due. Do not go to this place. It has been painfully obvious, which we had to learn after the fact, that Desert Ark ONLY cares about making money and maximizing profits over the actual well-being of our furbabies. I've already notified everyone in our personal and professional circles, to include all the rescues we volunteer with and support, to stay as far away from this place. However, I am writing this to ensure that other pet owners who love their babies and I may not know don't get price gouged and taken advantage of by this business. read more

Great care and affordable prices! Took our very nervous boxer in for a UTI. The doctor and staff we're all great with her and extremely patient knowing she has a history of being very nervous. We got what we needed done and left with a baby that was not happy by any means which is expected with her but wasn't in shock, bleeding from her nose or in a visible panic like has happened in the past. Just left today WITHOUT getting any service BUT had to pay $69. For what? A dental exam that basically didn't happen because my dog was pretty wound up so vet decided to medicate him and look later once he settled down. I had been in in November for vaccines and also gave me an estimate for this dental cleaning. $580. Today they decided to give me new estimate for $900-1200!! AND my other dog had dental cleaning in June which total was $532 AND he got extractions. Office manager tried to explain to me about their packages increased in price or they were having dental specials back then. Let's just dance around the issue that you are extorting people for this service. Girl went on to say they are a "premium" place? Really? Everyone wants premium for their pets! You're not in Los Angeles or Scottsdale! You're in Avondale . Only reason we even initially came here was because River Ridge Vet I'm Buckeye closed-well Dr Roy retired. Super sad as he had the best disposition and really cared. So did his staff! And he would NEVER extort like this from his customers. Oh did I mention that I was forced to pay $69 for an exam that wasn't really an exam and medication that now has my dog in a fog. So again extortion. Will post this review everywhere I can. Will never set foot in here. And don't take your pets if you care about them. If I could give zero stars I would. read more

If I could put zero stars I would!! I have been quoted 4 different prices that are completely different. I was first quoted $85 for my visit, just to have someone call me and quote me over $200. I told them I could not afford that because I was originally quoted for $85 for my visit. I then received an email that I was charged $150 for my visit but was not told. I am very pissed off that there was such a big communication problem at this clinic, that no one thought to tell me my TOTAL was $150. Instead I was informed that my TOTAL was $85. Wife and I brought our elderly chihuahua in because she had a seizure. Unfortunately our normal vet is completely booked. Due to them being wonderful. We brought our Chihuahua, they did manage to follow correct triage and got her in ASAP. So kudos for doing the most basic function of medicine. However, after we brought her in and seen the vet on duty they had urged us to leave Zoey with her. Shortly after arriving home we received a call saying she's paralyzed and needs to be put down. Skip forward a little bit. Knowing the vet was wrong, we did our best to explain the nuances of our pet when it comes to her being at the vet. She's walking now, not fine but that's because of pre-existing conditions before our visit. We were sent home with an anti-seizure medication that we were told the importance of making sure she had routine dosing of this medicine. What they failed to mention was they didn't send us home with any refills on this Rx. With only a couple doses left we were gonna get this refilled only to find out they incompetently didn't add any refills. Not a big deal, just call them and get them to send a Rx to our pharmacy, or to our vet. Well after sitting on the phone about the issue and being out on hold for 10+ minutes. They got back on the phone at exactly 8:01pm and said. "We're closed." Then promptly hung up. This place sucks, the staff have almost zero communication skills. They are incompetent and give zero f's about your pets. When we came back to pick up Zoey after we brought her in, they had loud ass music playing in the back. Which I'm sure didn't stress out any of the animals. If you can't handle sick/injured animals being vocal about their stress and discomfort. Find a new career. Don't bring your animals here. Do not bring them here. Wait it out with someone else. Terrible service all around. read more

I had a very compassionate experience here. I had a sick kitty and brought him in. I felt like the staff really cared and the vet took the time to personally call me with updates. I never felt in the least bit pressured to pay for anything or to do anything that I wasn't comfortable with. They took the time to explain things every step of the way. I am so glad I came here after having such a bad experience at Blue Pearl animal hospital last night. I will definitely bring all my pets here in the future! read more

I came in my 140 lb mastiff couldn't walk. He had something wrong with his paw and was crying. They asked if his life was in danger and I said no so they said they couldn't get me in for emergency appointment. They said come down and wait in the car, and estimated wait time was 5 hrs(when it was 115 degrees outside and to leave car running I would have needed to go to gas station to refill and loose my spot possibly). I drive a 40 min to get there and then they said that they were no longer taking anyone. I live in Tolleson but I had just had the same issue with a vet in Peoria. Nobody would hold my spot while drove to the vet and I kept getting turned around. I literally broke down in tears in the parking lot. I had explained my situation and that Peoria vet just turned me down after driving there and then they did the same thing!!! I understand he wasn't dying so he doesn't take priority over those that were but he ended up having a broken foot and that didn't qualify as emergency enough for these heartless people. I'm a out of state truck driver, was having serious problems with my 13 year old pup... They took us in same day and took great care of both of us. We had to put my baby down and it was one of the worst times of my life.. the staff was excellent, comforting, considerate and highly professional.. Find a vet that can count. I took my dog for a severe skin issue. I chose them because they were close and could get me in next day. Exam was $59, cleaning and shaving area $49, steroid $34, antibiotic $84. I paid about $230 total. They didn't give me the correct amount of antibiotics. I dont mind paying for good care, but they are obviously absent minded. When they called to check in on my dog, I communicated the issue, was then told "yes we made a mistake, but you'll need to pay the difference." I paid a lot for antibiotics (well above what the same medication costs from another vet pharmacy). I was told "I'm sorry you feel that way" when I said I didn't think I should pay for the extra medication because what I had paid for already was supposed to be the complete treatment. I'm severely disappointed and will not be taking either of my dogs here again. read more

We are sorry that Yelp won't let us assign ZERO STARS. These folks deserve that rating. Desert Ark Veterinary Hospital's office staff is disorganized. Their policies and actions are inconsiderate to both owners and pets. They seem to specialize in selling over caring. If you want the details, here they are: We had been going to Integrative Vet Med Center in Deer Valley for our two 11-year old dachshunds. While we loved the folks and service they provided, we needed something closer to Goodyear. So we relied on the opinion of our favorite groomer who highly recommended Desert Ark. As long as our needs were simple, things seemed to be going well. Our dogs tolerated the back room staff. We weren't happy with never seeing the same vet twice in a row and the disinterest or confusion from the desk staff, but soldiered on. Then disaster struck. We scheduled dental service for both of our boys in late December 2018. The mistakes and oversights snowballed: The date of the appointment, when we arrived at 8 AM, we were informed that they had "rescheduled" to the next day. "We called you." No phone call in our recent log. No voicemail. No text. Nothing. Showed up the next day (dogs had to fast before anesthesia) and dogs were admitted. But then we were told that it would be 10 AM or so before they did the blood test to make sure they were candidates for anesthesia. One of them (Chipper) has liver and autoimmune issues, so we watch his blood work very closely. His blood work had been fine for about a year. By mid afternoon, having not heard from them, we contacted them and found that Chipper's platelet count was dangerously low (14) and that they were retesting him to verify the results. Curiously, he was showing no symptoms of a nearly fatal platelet count. So, no dental work for him. They asked for approval for diagnostic tests. The other (Rocky) had not had his dental done yet (remember, no breakfast), but would be ready to pick up at closing time (7 PM). At 7 PM, yet another new vet explained that she had done Rocky's teeth and overseen Chipper's blood work. She prescribed massive Prednisone doses (20 mG twice a day - 10 mG twice a day is the most either dog has had previously through IVDD and nearly fatal liver and autoimmune issues). She refused to use the Prednisone that we still had from Chipper's last autoimmune bout - it was five weeks past a year old and "might be a bit weak." She also prescribed medication to protect his stomach from the Prednisone. No other side effects were mentioned. About three days into the Prednisone treatment, Chipper got severe diarrhea. We called at opening time and left a voicemail explaining the issue. Apparently this message was garbled, but nobody called back to clarify. Mid day, another call: it was answered this time. Left a message which was to be forwarded to a vet. About an hour before closing time, another call resulted in the vet getting on the phone and opening with, "I was just about to call you." She said that diarrhea was an expected side effect and prescribed a probiotic and an anti-diarrheal. So, drop everything and rush over to get there before closing time to get another $50 worth of Rx, or Chipper would suffer fourteen additional hours. Why this wasn't discussed and / or the necessary meds prescribed in the beginning is a mystery. About a week into the treatment plan, we decided to get a second opinion and sought out the highly recommended The Complete Pet Animal Hospital. There we found a warm and welcoming and informative staff and a wonderful vet in Nancy Buczek. She examined Chipper and found no secondary symptoms (bleeding) that she would expect with a platelet count as low as Chipper's had been reported by Desert Ark only eight days prior. Dr. Buczek recommended a new blood test. The results came back mid-day on Sunday. She immediately texted us: "Chipper's bloodwork is great! The platelets are normal." Deathly low to normal in a week? When asked about this, Dr. Buczek said: "It is possible ..." Prior to our appointment with Dr. Buczek, her staff had requested the records from Desert Ark. When we got there, we found that the records were incomplete. Dr. Buczek's staff checked again and found that part of the reason that they were incomplete was that some STILL HAD NOT BEEN TRANSCRIBED A WEEK AFTER OUR VISIT! Conversely, Integrative Vet had a full package eMailed to Dr. Buczek within minutes on a Saturday. Integrative Vet built a custom raw diet that we make from scratch, including a supplement (Daily Care Complete). We asked Desert Ark if they could acquire this for us to purchase. After several phone calls, we were told that their vet said, "If they have a good diet, it is unnecessary." We cannot fathom what this debacle cost us. Yes, we could add up the dollars spent. But the disruption and turmoil in our lives; the stress and agony for the dogs; these are unnecessary and incalculable. read more

No longer interested, have been taking my dogs there for a year and realized today it's just about the money not actually helping out the pet or customer. Was disappointed in their lack of customer service today. Just had my dogs there a week ago and paid for the exams for each as well as toe nails when all I asked was a quote on the toe nails (19.99). I would not have had them done for that price. My dog came up with an ear infection the next day and they wanted to charge me another $60 for the exam that I had just done... read more

If I could give them a higher rating, I would! Recently took my 3 year old German Shepherd Australian Shepherd mix there to be neutered and could not be more pleased with the service and procedure. My dog is very anxious and fearful and the staff was extremely patient and went the extra mile to try to get him to warm up to them as this was also our first visit. Other vets have always muzzled him right away and labeling him as being aggressive. But Dr. Velez understood his fear and anxiety. Due to us moving out of state, she even took the time to recommend and search for a behavioral veterinarian in the state we were moving to to help us with his anxiety and fearfulness. We were also given a new client goody bag, so thoughtful! Oh and their wellness packages are that much more of a plus! They are doing everything right! Highly recommended! read more

With new puppy we needed to get established at local vet. Desert Ark is 5 minutes from home. Very convenient. Dr V is friendly and takes time to answer our questions and concerns. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Their computer systems never seem to work so they rely on taking notes manually. They don't have have our dogs previous visit notes handy so we seem to spend time getting the staff up to speed on our dogs history. Not a big deal but you'd think the tech issues would be resolved. Would make their record keeping easier. Don't know if prices are competitive since we didn't shop around. Doesn't seem outrageous for routine stuff. Bottom line is our dog is comfortable with the staff as our we. read more

After starting a Kitten Rescue, a relationship with a good local Veterinary Clinic became a must have. We tried several clinics over a period of time and while we didn't find one that always had the best price, we found the one that seemed to have the biggest heart AND the most talent. We were having eye problems with one of our kittens and had been to 3 veterinarians with differing, but incorrect, treatments and opinions. After hearing that a local clinic had come under new management recently, we took Wizard to Desert Ark Veterinary Clinic for attempt FOUR. Dr. Wendy (Sorry, don't know her last name. She just says call her Dr. Wendy) took a couple of minutes to figure out Wizard had an issue common to dogs but not at ALL common with cats. His eyelashes are turned INTO his eyes, not out. OUCH!!!!! One surgery down, one to go, and Wizard will be perfect. He's 80% good now with a temporary fix waiting for him to stop growing so much. Grace of God, Lola, Carny, Micro, Nano and who knows HOW many of our kittens have been administered to by the wonderful folks at Desert Ark. By now, those folks are just like family. (Been thinking about asking a couple of them if they might like to swap, I could REALLY use an upgrade or two!) So...best Vet 100% of the time, best staff 100% of the time, best treatment 100% of the time, best price 75% of the time. 3 out of 4 isn't great, it's phenomenal. You'd have to be 100% stupid to go anywhere else. read more

Initially I took my dog in for war infection. The first vet that seen him and treated him was great. She flushed out the ear then did culture and treated ear. The problem wasn't til follow up visit when it was a diff vet who wanted to charge me again for culture test and change everything . Long story short they only flushed ear out and didn't apply more med so it would clear up completely. The ear ended up as bad as when I first took him in the first time if not worse. I contacted office to ask if they could meet me in some of cost for him to be seen as I had spent hundreds already on ear that never got better. Unfortunately they would not and my dog suffered until I could afford it which I decided to go somewhere else. I was greatly disappointed cause I thought I found a great place. read more

Has been a great clinic for my old baby.. always treated well and taken care of.. but my girl only requires a cytopoint injection for allergies.. I have requested a prescription for the shot multiple times as I have found multiple pet pharmacies that sell it cheaper and the vet has refused to write the prescription.. gonna have to go back to her old vet to get the prescription renewed as I can't afford overpriced injection charge and office visit fee every time read more

I started coming here last July. Loved Ann, Dr. Lenny and Dr. Young. I was so appreciative of the care given to my Maltese when we found she was diabetic. Then it changed. Ann was gone and I never saw Dr. Linny or Dr. Young. Dr Reidy was there and the service was horrible. Took my dog for testing again, she had to be there for the day, I did not hear anything through the day. I got concerned and I called. I was told "we called you." There was no message or missed call. This was then the pattern. They did not call with test results. It was always repeating the same test with no resolution. I asked, "is the insulin the right type? should we test for Crushing disease? " Nothing. Finally, one day there was a substitute mobile doctor there when Dr. Reidy went to a conference. He asked staff, "why hasn't she had a curve, a Cushings test?" He could not do the test that day but scheduled it for when Dr. Reidy was back. They finally did the test. I heard nothing back. Days passed. I called and the response was always "someone will call you back." I had called Friday, Monday and Tuesday. Finally irritated, I insisted on speaking to someone. A tech got on the phone and was trying to determine the test results. I told her then, "I paid $250 for this test and I think a Vet could at least call me." She said, "I will have Dr. Reidy call you back in about 15 minutes." 90 minutes later, no call back. I called again. This time Dr. Reidy finally came to the phone. She knew no more about the test results than the tech did. She kept saying, "well it is right on the border. It is hard to tell." She said we should get an ultrasound to the tone of around $500. Frustrating. I just felt like I was being scammed for more testing and more money. I finally just told her what I thought of her lousy service and ended the call. I requested my dogs records. They were emailed to me. I am a nurse, know nothing about test done on animals but the test look obviously negative to me! I found a specialist who saw her and reviewed the test results and said, "this is negative." She does not have Cushings Disease!" Point being...don't take your pet somewhere that does not give you the courtesy of a call back, and preys on the fact that you care for these little ones and keeps milking that concern for more money. Really saddened me because when I first went there; I thought they were the best. Shows how a few bad eggs can ruin the whole place! read more

Originally, I was very happy with the experience at this vet. I adopted a dog and was recommended to this vet from a friend. I began taking Darby, my dog, to this vet for an ear infection and was given meds, no big deal. I have been battling ear infections with her for MONTHS and after being persistent with the meds and vets saying I do not believe this is a normal ear infection as it has lasted MONTHS and I was dismissed. Fast forward to the last couple weeks, I have seen 2 vets and had 2 appointments. The first appointment I had cytology done, a flush, and medications given. I returned 1.5 weeks ago (2 days ago now) and I was asked to repeat cytology after already confirming it was a yeast ear infection. NO I we know what it is and I insisted something more is wrong. Well after the vet FINALLY got on the ground and looked in my dogs ears (3rd vet in total we have seen) we found a foxtail in my dogs ear so close to the ear drum. Very disappointed in the competency of these vets and the inability to find something time and time again. If I can not trust these vets to check ears and treat an ear infection, I do not trust taking my dog there for more serious medical issues. VERY disappointed. read more
