Let's get into this review. For my customers service people the place was nice, clean tables, waitress was prompt with a mix of r&b music in the background. Food: The Jamaican Pros: Food arrived hot and well seasoned. I didn't need to add any additional seasonings. Cons: For my taste the Jerk chicken in this omelet didn't have any kick. We stumbled upon Arize as we were walking around The Market. Luckily, we beat the lunch rush. We were seated immediately by friendly staff. It was quite busy. We both ordered the signature Arize breakfast. Eggs, bacon and potatoes. Sounds simple, but they dressed it up nicely. Toasted bun and jam on the side as well. We were also offered a complimentary bowl of grits to share. I don't usually like grits, but this dish was fantastic. I only let my husband have 1 bite. They did not have any decaf coffee on offer, so we drank ice water. The service was fast!! We ate with gusto and paid up so the ever growing queue could enjoy as well. I dined in using DoorDash so will lean on the side of the restaurant in rating a 4 instead of 3 to factor not eating directly from kitchen to table. I ordered a breakfast bowl of grits, scrambled cheese eggs and turkey sausage along with coco bread. The grits were not to my best liking; however, I am from the south so a grit snob and it takes adjusting when not the traditional taste. Arize Is a small cafe with absolutely delicious food choices with big flavor. I had The Jamaican with curry grits (which they allowed me to sample prior to ordering) and added a pancake. It's took 12 minutes for my food to come out and they entire time my waitress DESTINY was attentive to not just me but all patrons. It's a no for me. Came here for breakfast as recommended by a friend. They serve breakfast with a Jamaican twist. I asked to have my overcooked pancake replaced, one of the servers took it back (it was charred / burnt on the bottom which impacts the taste), only to bring out a more charred pancake....dang, these folk gave me a hard middle finger (without giving me the middle finger). The owner comes over to inquire about the pancake situation and he let me know that I get what I get...dang double middle finger. I have worked in a restaurant and have dined out a lot in my lifetime. This was a first for me. And hopefully the last time this kind of disregard happens. We do not have to agree but you can be more professional. I did not ask to be comped and I was not looking for a discount. Just edible food that I paid for. So let me start off by explaining why I gave 5 stars to this small business that is not by any means in fashion of Ritz Carlton style dining. The folks here checked off my boxes for cleanliness, friendliness, and "food tastes goodingness". I am indeed a germophobe and Covid didn't make it any better. At entry I saw the notices for covid safety and hand sanitizer etc. At entry I was greeted immediately and it was genuine. All too often we find ourselves in places just rolling the wheel if you will --- and a friend of mine had already said the food was good. Originally I was going to order to go but I felt comfortable all of a sudden like my uncle was talking to me and I sat on down. As a Charleston native, I know good grits and my goodness I saw the ladies next to me order the Curry Grits. It threw me a little bit but when I tell you I enjoyed every grit in the bowl! My eggs were cooked perfectly and I'm not sure why it's so hard to get a good over hard egg? Like can anybody answer that for me??? I also had the sweet potato pancakes. They were fluffy and tasty as well. There are several things I intend to swing back by to try and probably update this review or add another. This restaurant is Black Owned, located in College Park inside of the Camp Creek Market Place. Its a small spot maybe about 20 ppl could sit inside. The place was clean, sanitizer on the counter, they cleaned the tables as customers left. The staff wore masks, mask are required inside as well. The host greeted me upon entry & the server greeted me quickly as I sat down, the place only had about 5pp seated & it was around 930am on a Wednesday. Now lets talk about the food.. this place states it has Jamaican food, that is not the case, it has Jamaican inspired food. If you are looking for traditional Jamaican food then this is not the restaurant for you. The waffles were undercooked with a doughy-like texture inside. I informed the server and it was replaced with the 2nd waffle pic you see & I had the same issue. The eggs & sausage were both good, nothing to brag about. I was definitely not happy about the doughy waffle, However, I will return because my first choice was to get the CocoBread w/peaches. Im giving them 4 stars even though the food was ok, the customer service was good & customer service is everything... the waffle was replaced and was then removed from my check without having to mention it. Oh yeah let me tell you about the Vanilla Cognac sauce, I thought it was going to be like a syrup instead it was thick like a custard. Maybe it's me but the ratings for this place should be higher. It's been about 2 years since I ate here and decided to come back and give it another try to see if it was still "good" from what I last remembered. Me and my husband order the "Spice Up Ya Life" omelette with the grits and also the peach cobbler french toast with chicken sausage (was a large sausage split open and cooked). our takeout total with their automatic %12 gratuity (about $4) came out to $47. we split both of the meals and it was plenty for both of us to share both meals which I liked because we got some of everything. the flavor was 10s across the board and food taste twice as good as it did 2 years ago when I had it. Well seasoned. the coco bread as a Caribbean twist for french toast was amazing I was unsure of how they would be able to execute that but they did it seamlessly my husband is Jamaican (very critical of others food) and he was pleasantly surprised. we both really enjoyed it. The grits were cooked to perfection, they weren't too thick they were not watery even as takeout when we got home it was still creamy, it had an extra pizazz to it not sure if any coconut milk or something was used but it was nice....so phenomenal job on whoever cooked it. they were seasoned to perfection not too salty not too bland which is hard for a lot of restaurants to do. The food was so good I didn't even get a picture but we will be back sooner than later! 10s across the board. This is a smaller restaurant but it's not a big deal if it's a problem for you then get the food as takeout no need to rate it low for that. Only critic is have the young girl in the front taking orders/serving not wear her AirPods when assisting customers it unprofessional but she was nice and did give good recommendations. This place is amazing. The coffee is THE best I have had and I am one of the pickiest coffee drinkers out there. It is a very smooth blend. The peach cobbler coco toast was phenomenal.
