Honestly, I miss the old owners of this restaurant. Since the people have changed, they've changed…read morethe recipe for the batter on the seafood, they also have changed the fries , and worst of all THEY CHANGED THE TARTER SAUCE RECIPE! It tastes like mayonaise now, and that broke my heart. I just want the good food spots in the Bronx to remain that way. The food is definitely not as good as it used to be.

The only reason I came out this far was for this. City Island and Johnny's Reef. This is not a spot…read moreyou just happen to go to, it takes planning, preparation, saving and probably some fasting. I go all out when I come here becuase it's fast seafood at it's best, steamed, raw or fried. You order at the counter for things you want, so plan your order with friends so you can get what you want all at once. Send one to get the fried's, one to get the steamed, raw, etc. It looks like any seasonal shack on the eastern seaboard, but just a tad busier and a tad nicer. Service is good becuase it's far enough away from the NYC grind that people aint tryna bring that vibe. They're trying to have a different experience. It's got great views. Cash only of course. Seating is cafeteria style. I usually have to go for a walk afterwards to help digest everything. Prices are high if you indulge or come with your whole family, but it's kinda in line if your tryna splurge and go big. My usual order is steamed snow crab legs, fried calamari, fried clam strips, steamed cherry's and little necks (or raw if it's daytime or late summer) and a steamed whole snapper if I'm with more than 1 person. It's a feast, but worth a gout attack. It's fresh seafood that's well prepared and simple. You can't go wrong on the cocktail sauces, butter, lemon on most items.

The service was quick responsive. The only problem I have that spot is parking. If you enjoy fish, shrimp fries promise you will enjoy this place.

There were like five other customers placing orders. However from time of placing order and receiving food was not even a good 10 minutes. Staff was quick and friendly. I had the surf and turf box. 3 pieces of fried fish, 3 chicken tenders, 3 jumbo shrimp with fries. That was $20. I also had a slice of pineapple upside down cake. The fish was very nice sized portions. The chicken tenders where a little skimpy. The looked like when your mother say we have chicken tenders at home. BUT to make up for the skimpiness they tasted like your mother made them at home. The shrimp were a nice size. The cake take like a well made box cake. By no means am I complaining. I enjoyed the food. The box I got was big and shareable. It easily feeds 2 people. The food was hot and made in clean oil. I certainly will be going back. But next time I simply want the school street sandwich. I would say if you will not be eating immediately in your car or live extremely close by you need to open your bag and crack open the box if not you risk your food being soggy.

Nothing that knocked me off my feet but solid enough for what they are. The french fries were exactly what you would expect. Potatoes are potatoes and it is genuinely hard to go wrong there. Now the fish, which is really the entire point of visiting a place called Fish and Chips, was unfortunately a letdown. Zero flavor. Completely bland from start to finish. There are several sauces included and I suppose if you enjoy building all of your flavor through dipping that approach could work for you, but personally I would much rather the fish itself show up with something to say. The surprise standout of the whole meal were the dirty potatoes. Those were loaded up nicely and genuinely delivered. I would order those again without any hesitation. But the fish is what I came for and the fish is where Gordon Ramsay Fish and Chips fell short. Given the name attached to this concept, the expectations walking in are naturally going to be elevated. Unfortunately the fish did not come close to meeting them. For a restaurant built entirely around fish and chips as its signature offering, the main attraction needs to bring a lot more to the plate than this.
