Make My Fish 120 W. 116th. St. New York, NY 10026 Fish and Chips Based on this restaurant name, it's a no-brainer that I will be exploring fish. As I entered the store, it was filled with one dozen customers waiting for their order. It is always a promising sign when is restaurant is crowded. As I removed the plate from the bag, I was immediately "reeled" in! The whiting fish was unbelievably thick and wide. It was perfectly breaded and seasoned; it easily pulls apart. You'll be "hooked" whether you enjoy the fish as is, with tartar sauce, or hot sauce. The choice is yours. An order of piping hot fries is also included. Make My Fish does not accept credit cards or Apple Pay, but an ATM machine is conveniently located inside the restaurant.   I am happy to say Make My Fish made my day! #makemyfish #fishandchips #makemyfishharlem #harlemny read more

This review is Pro Tips at Make My Fish. I might as well be the catfish with the hook in my mouth as often as I stop by MMF. Anytime I'm nearby, MMF reels me in, like this past Saturday early evening. The line was not long, but people are steadily streaming in. It's like this all day here, for those who don't know, and a testament as to how good it is, particularly the catfish. ProTip 1: Get here early afternoon. For one, you will not find any chicken typically after three and there's no chicken on Fridays if memory serves correctly. Two, I have found the larger fillets of catfish may be gone by three or four on a busy Saturday. This was the case this Saturday, when I ordered two orders of just the catfish. These fillets were four inches or so, when they can be as much as seven or eight inches and thick. Size matters folks! ProTip 2: Order your catfish extra crispy. It's worth the wait. You'll be waiting anyway. You may have time to go out and order from another nearby place and return to pickup your order. ProTip 3: Try the fish with tartar sauce and hot sauce. I had been reading others doing it and tried it and like it. For some reason I've always been a hot sauce purist and never thought to combine it with the tartar sauce. I even tried it with some chunky salsa with pineapple. I can see it with mango salsa too. It's slightly out of the ordinary, but good and probably really good with the shrimp. I'd like your feedback on that. ProTip 4: Cash is King and there's no restroom. Any more ProTips at MMF? 4.3 stars! (PS, one day I'll remember to take a picture.) read more

For my first time here, it was quite interesting. I had no idea where to order, I thought it was at the counter when you first walk in but that was for order pick up. I was told by the guy who was at the pick up counter where to order. This is a cash only establishment so bring your bills. I got myself a catfish and shrimp combo with no fries. I heard that the catfish was the star and Ive had plenty of whiting that pretty much all are basic. So I wanted to try out their catfish. Now heres where it gets interesting. That same guy at the pick up counter offered me a sample tasting of both whiting, catfish and shrimp options when he realized it was my first time visiting. I wish I would have received that sample before I made my order because I would have passed on buying the shrimp. I think it was fried to perfection but somehow it had a sweet flavor that was off putting to me. I took it home for my daughter to enjoy. The catfish was extra meaty and delicious but the whiting was the real star. Boom Bam Pow! It was so fresh, so full of flavor and crunchy. Ive had plenty of store brought whiting before, but this took me back to my childhood, when I was a teenager and we would have fried fish Fridays and family and friends would come over to play cards and other games, hang out and eat fish and salad. What a nostalgic moment! I think the prices are quite pricey for some fish but what isn't these days. It was so worth it! They "can make my fish" anytime and that is exactly what I would return for. I wouldn't stay to eat here although they had a tabletop with some stools but it not a comfy environment. I wanna say thanks again to the guy who took the time to speak to me and give me the samples for the first time customers, although I don't know if I would have received it if I didn't look so confused and asked a bunch of questions lol. Overall really good experience and I would recommend. Thumbs up and Happy Yelping! read more

Harlem local gem!! Perfectly seasoned and fried seafood. Shrimp more savory than salted but delicious. No buttermilk. Owner was nice and gave use a sample tray. He has roots in the south My friends and I proceeded to order 2 whiting sandwiches and a shrimp and fries basket. Fries could use some salt and/or any kind of seasoning. I swear it's about 6 filets on the sandwiches. Definitely recommend and would go back. But only to this location. No bathroom, cash only, and limited space to sit and eat. read more

It's local, it's a whole in the wall and we like it just fine. I got the fried fish and M&C - Fish has great flavor, not greasy, and not overly battered. Emphasis on not overly battered because that is a thing at some places. I don't wanna feel guilty eating fish. Great portion size (please keep the portion size the same) and it re-heats well. Next day with some grits, perfect! - M&C gives a homemade feel, it's good and simple. I had to hold off on one start because the 3 times that I've been there's a disturbing smell. I'm thinking it's the floor mats in the waiting space. I'm hoping this will get checked. The staff is cool, familiar family vibe, straight to the point running their business and it's all good. I'll return again and again. read more

Love, love, love the food here. Can not believe I have never given this place a try! The fried shrimp, mac & cheese are my favorite. The whiting fish, and their tartar sauce was great. Loved the prices, it was very busy, not a long wait. The atmosphere was lively and music rocking! read more

How come every Southern fried fish place I've been to all have the worst process for ordering their food? Below are things that are always present in places like these: 1. No clear place to line up and place my order. 2. A large number of people hanging out in a tiny area waiting for their number to be called. 3. The person calling out the order number is drowned out by the music blasting in the background. 4. Almost non-existent seating area. 5. Hot inside with one small broken box fan in the corner, trying to cool down this small area packed with customers. 6. Confusing, barely readable signage. 7. Again, trying to place an order to a cashier behind a glass with music blaring in the background. Here are some simple fixes I believe would solve most of their issues. 1. Turn the music off! 2. Once you place your order, wait outside until your number is called. 3. Get either a loudspeaker or an electronic number poster showing the order ready for pick up. 4. Clean up the posted menu. 5. Get a fan that works. 6. Have a separate pick up area for the Grub Hub and Uber folks. There's more, but I believe these suggestions would resolve 90% of their issues and increase productivity, because despite the apparent problems, the fish is actually pretty tasty. BB read more

The absolute best fried fish this side of the Mississippi! We were on our way to Central Park and my friends asked if I wanted some fried fish and shrimp. I looooove seafood, I had no idea what I was in for. This place is the absolute best. I got the fish, shrimp and fries. He gave me hot sauce, tartar sauce and bread to go with it. This place reminds me of my childhood. I will always make it a point to eat here when I come to NY. The food was perfectly seasoned, with flavor in every bite. It was hot and it did not take a long time to get the food. My friend got the chicken wings, they were seasoned to perfection. I will absolutely be back. Like as soon as I land I will be heading to Make My Fish so they can make my fish!!! Looking forward to trying the sides next time. read more

I give a three star why because the fish and the shrimp is amazing it's very good season taste good no problem but the mac & cheese it tastes kinda old. It's no flavor and the cashier guy that was servicing me he had a little attitude he look like he don't wanna be there. It wasn't a long line when I came there That's a blessing, but would I ever go back there again? I don't know. read more

Great local spot for fish lovers. Fresh items and great staff. Very assessable for a quick meal. Neighborhood staple.

Amazing food and extremely friendly customer service. Came for a trip with work and ordered the catfish with shrimp and a side of Mac and cheese and collard greens. The catfish and shrimp were fried to perfection, Mac and cheese cheesy and yummy and the collard greens had a great smoky taste. Also ordered an Arnold Palmer it was good but on the sweet side. As for the portion I had enough to eat for dinner left overs. read more

Easily the best cat fish I've ever eaten in New York. Savory to say the least. Seasoned to perfection. I'm not a catfish enthusiast at all but being able to compare this with the whiting were an excellent combination. The grits were made not too salty, as well as the candied yams that were in abundance. I had dinner for the night and was able to make two sandwiches for lunch and an early dinner the next day with the amount of portions I had! First time I visited and I will absolutely be back soon. read more

The wait wasn't long at all, even though it was crowded a sign of good food! The catfish was perfectly seasoned with a crisp golden coating and tender, flaky meat inside. Make My Fish - Catfish dinner with 2 sides - Fish & Chips Near Me - New York, New York

I visited the "Make my fish" restaurant in Yonkers, NY, on 7/25/26. I ordered the catfish and fries and a shrimp and catfish dinner. When I arrived home with the food, I noticed that one of my orders was short on the catfish. I called back to the restaurant to speak to the manager; I was put on hold and someone came on the line and said that he was "Akeem" the manager. I told him that my order was missing catfish (catfish & fries order). This person preceded to tell me that was all I was supposed to get. I informed "Akeem" that I've been getting this meal from that location, from the day that the Mayor of Yonkers came to visit (I was there that day). I always received six pieces of catfish in my order, "Akeem called a liar and told me that I had only been getting three pieces. While I was trying to tell him what I know of my orders, he abruptly said "ok bye" I called back in less than two minutes and asked for "Akeem" last name and was told that he was outside on the phone, I said I would like to wait to speak to him. The man who got on the phone (different voice) said he was "Akeem" and how could he help me. I asked for his last name, and he refused to give it to me. He wanted to know what the problem was, I said that I just spoke to you about my orders, and he said that it wasn't him. I spoke to two different people and the second one claimed to be "Akeem". I let him know that his staff play games and that is unprofessional. I thanked him and disconnected the call. On June 27th, 2026, I came in there and placed orders totaling $198.00. I was spreading the word to support a black own business; that will be no longer. "Akeem" was just as unprofessional as his staff, and they have just lost my support. No longer, The Bronx traveler read more

This spot has taken over as my Go-to fish place. Fresh fish prepared the way you like it ( soft or hard fried). The sides are authentic and the service is swift enough for what you want. Always a line that you don't mind waiting on, 'cause the food is delicious! Don't change, wish you could open a spot in Brooklyn so I wouldn't have to travel to Harlem but until you do...I'll be back! read more

I went to their new location in Yonkers. Had high expectations only to be extremely disappointed.. Ordered the fish and chips can't really mess that up but they did... fries were sooooo greasy and unseasoned and crispy was not even in the equation, the fish was all batter (also unseasoned) could barely find the fish! Will not be returning since it was a waste of money can't even give it to the dog read more

so all I had was the shrimp and they were ok , nothing to wait in a line for. why I'm adding a shitty review is because I came to this establishment first time and I asked what everyone getting... they told me both the fish and shrimp. while I was waiting for my food I not 2 whites come in and they actually showed these whites some real favoritism... so they asked them if it was there first time and proceeded to give them a free sampler.... lmao!!! mind you this is in Harlem.... slavery is over.... and for that sort of mindset I would never ever ever come to this establishment again... mind you the shrimp were mid nothing to brag about. read more

Came in on an adventure on a Friday night after work and went right back on Saturday for dinner again! The food is easily a 15/10. The ambiance is cool but if you're looking for a place to sit and eat, walk a few avenues over to the park. Don't be intimidated by the amount of people in and outside of establishment because the line moves quicker than you think. Order is always correct and they make sure to ask you to wait if everything isn't included in your bag. Back to the food, I'm not a fan of shrimp but these are cooked to perfection with a hint of sweetness as if they added a lil sugar to that batter. The fish, if it wasn't fried I would be eating every single day. Catfish is cooked perfectly, seasoned by the ancestral gods and served crispy! The grits are amazing and the greens are cooked down without meat so you don't have to worry about pork being added to your greens. The grits! They were seasoned and buttered up. Definitely satisfied my craving and I was given the option to add cheese! Add it! That Mac n cheese is also good not as greasy as most places serve it. They offer a nice selection of combinations or you can make your own. If you don't eat as much in a sitting you will have food for a few days because the portions are great. It is also enough to share the main but make sure you get your own sides. The drink was a half and half and it was perfect if you like your drinks sweetened! Definitely going back AGAIN. read more

Had a taste for fish and grits and heard about Make My Fish in Harlem. The restaurant opened at 11:30 am, and I was 3rd on line. It was just a regular take-out spot- not very large. The music was fine, a bit loud, but as I mentioned, it's a take-out place. After I placed my order, it took 15 minutes for my order to get ready. There were 4 pieces of regularly sized Whiting fish, and a container of grits. The fish was lightly browned, but crispy. It was seasoned, and the grits were hot and creamy. It was filling, and I actually had more fish left over. I would go back. If you are ever on 116th, in Harlem, check out Make My Fish. Till we eat again... read more

This is my second favor fish spot in Harlem. I have been coming here for years. Years years. It's a great spot to get while fresh fish you can take it home and prepare it yourself and u can have it steamed there. This time I came in the the fried snapper shrimp and fries.
