I asked if there was flounder, the guy at the window said he had only Whiting. I ordered it with the shrimp and fries. It was so expensive and I noticed the bag was very light. For this same amount of money I can go to Golden Corral around the corner and get almost 4 to 5 times the amount of food. Anyway, when I opened the bag at home... I usually don't like to make bad recommendations on small businesses but I would make an exception on this one. Why would anyone recommend this place beats me. The fish served was not even seasoned with the minimum seasoning of salt and pepper neither was the dusting flour used to fry the fish. Obviously the oil was not hot enough the fries was soggy overdone and disgusting. Since it was a takeaway you couldn't see what was in the bag. 11-2 lunch special, arrived about 1:58,( My friend is hyped about the spot and took me ) I never been, he talking with the fryer/cook, ordered food 2 mins after 2pm Fish, Shrimp and Chips combo was ordered, bill came to $40, I looked at my friend and said what happen to the lunch special ( now it wasn't ordered as such, let me get a lunch special etc ) so my friend asked what's the difference between the lunch special and what the cook gave, he was told the size. My friend went with what was given. 2 cakes and 2 Juices he ordered in addition. 1 juice was a lemonade drink, and had what may have been a Gnat that fly's around, so I quietly mentioned something was floating in the drink, the cook at the window takes it, looks at it shakes it around, asked where, I pointed it out, he said it must of came from the sugar, tries to pour it out, instead of giving another drink, hands it back to me and the GNat is still in it. I said to my friend it's still in it, he did not switch the drink, so my friend took my drink and gave me his. Now I finally get to the food and the side of the papa we bowl was not something that seemed large. I'm wondering now why the lunch special suppose to be a difference. First of all, packaging sucked. They wrapped food in wrapping paper that really didn't contain food well. My daughter ordered chicken and chips and was ok with it. My son and hubby ordered the fish and shrimp combo. We only received 1 order. I had a fish sandwich and we ordered 2 slices of red velvet cake. Only 1 slice of cake was sent. My son said the shrimp was ok. We all felt the fish was terrible. It was almost non existent in the breading and it was bland. We had to drown it in hot sauce. I felt like I was eating a rice cake between bread slices. Won't order from here again. Stick to City Island or even Popeye's fish sandwich is easy way, way better. Well, I have to give my wife props on this one. Having gotten out of work early, we decided to head down to Parkchester and do a little shopping. After some lengthy 'window shopping' we realized how hungry we were. Since we were near Archer Ave. My wife decided to take me to a little out of the way place that serves some pretty good food called 'Dee's Fish & Chips'. Not a fancy place by any means, it's just a small little shop, that serves up a nice plate of food. We ordered two of the 'Fish, Shrimp and Chips' combo (just $11.50ea) and each order had three nice sizes pieces of fried Whiting, with a side serving of some good size shrimp all topped on a good serving of thick cut fries piled into a paper food basket. The Whiting was fried perfectly and was nice and flaky. I thought it could have used a little more seasoning but it was still very good. The shrimp was also very good. Nice and tender with a nice breading. The fries were just how I like them. Thick. And the fries at 'Dee's' were cooked until perfectly golden brown. And you know your food is fresh because they cook the food as ordered. No plates of pre-fried fish sitting under heat lamps. Your food is cooked right before your eyes and served nice and hot out of the fryer. If in the Parkchester area and looking for a some good food, after a afternoon of shopping, try Dee's Fish & Chips. read more

My first and last time ordering from this place. Total disappointment!!! I ordered two all fish ($12 each) and two macaroni tuna salads. The all fish was 3 pieces and no macaroni salad. I also ordered a fish and shrimp combo with fries. It was supposed to be four fish and four shrimp. No shrimp was with my order. The fish was bland. Tatar sauce that was sent was less than half full. Total jip all the way!!!! You were recommended however I cannot recommend you to anyone! Grubhub reimbursed me but then conveniently it said that I "skipped" leaving a review. SO. I've been having a fish/seafood craving lately, with dreams of whiting and shrimp dancing. Okay maybe not. But I've really been craving anything that lives in water so I decided to try this little spot since the reviews were decent enough and this place is a short walk from the Q44 stop in Parkchester. The fiance and I made plans to eat there for lunch. NOW. This place is great to go in, get your food and eat al fresco in the park on White Plains Road or in your car since they do NOT have seating inside. I felt some of the previous reviews were a bit misleading in this respect. This is just your typical fish spot around the way. No more, no less. As far as the service, the two guys working the counter were very friendly. You can tell they're from the neighborhood or at least worked there for a while by the way they chatted up customers They were patient as my fiance and I read the menu, making our selections (He got the shrimp and chips, I got a fish sandwich on white bread). Our food was cooked to order and after about a 10 minutes wait, it was ready. We took our food to the park mentioned above and proceeded to grub. I liked that my fish sandwich was still piping hot, with about 5 pieces of fish which is hella generous for a fish place. As far as seasoning, I felt the fish could have benefited from some more salt, pepper and maybe garlic powder. Out of 10, I gave it a 6. My fiance loved his shrimp, which was cooked (and seasoned, strange enough) perfectly. He felt that the chips (fries) were cut too thick, more appropriate for, say, a steak than shrimp. The shrimp he gave a 7, fries got a 4. If you're in the Parkchester area and you want some fish, nothing extraordinary, just some decent fish then I would def recommend this place. If however you're looking for solidly delicious seafood then my vote remains with A Taste of Seafood on 125th Street in East Harlem. read more

Everyone that works there is super nice and you can always expect the service to be stellar. As for the food, you really can't imagine to do any better. I just moved to the Bronx and wanted some good fried fish. I came on here and saw the reviews so instead of going to HARLEM where they have the best seasoned fish and chips, I came here. I spent $29 dollars on chicken wings, shrimp, fish, fries, macaroni salad and chocolate cake. The fries were dark and burnt, as if they gave me the little scraps that were left at the bottom of the fryer. The whiting that I received had NO seasoning whatsoever on it. However, the fried shrimp was seasoned WELL. Guess the whiting was allergic to seasoning and being fried hard, because it was so soft. The chicken wings looked like they had potential, but even those had no seasoning. I had to add my own seasoning to everything but the shrimp. Now, let's get to the macaroni salad. It tasted like the one from the grocery store, but just with tuna added in, and a SMALL bit of seasoning. Ohhhh, can't forget the chocolate cake! The edge of the cake was burnt and was covered up with a THIN layer of frosting. There was even a thinner layer of frosting in the middle of the cake. The cake itself was hard and not soft at all. I threw the cake out. I was highly disappointed with my first order here and this was definitely my last. I will be making the trek to Harlem from now on for some GOOD fried seafood. This place is a joke, they need to just erase their steamed seafood menu. Everytime i go in here to get steamed seafood the steamer is broken or like today the man tells me "the steamer isnt on". I looked at him and smirked and just left, like really? Well turn it on then ! If u just wanna sell fried food then just say that, fact of the matter is they dont like dealing with the steamer so they tell u some none sense. Being that I am from Harlem....(Harlem World stand up!!!)....I am no stranger to awesome, finger-lickin fried fish and chips spots, and I do have my go-to location for fried fish, chips, fish sandwhich, fried shrimp, etc. and that is of course Famous Fish on the corner of 145th Street & St. Nicholas Ave. Now that I live in the Bronx, I recently decided that I had to find my Bronx go-to location for fish and chips since Famous Fish is a 20min cab ride away, they have no seating to sit and eat your food, and I like to eat my fish&chips hot and fresh. So after internet searching, I found Dee's Fish & Chips which is a 5min cab ride away. I had a craving for crispy, fried, tasty fish, perfectly cooked french fries laced with ribbons of tangy tarter sauce, so last night I took the trip to Dee's Fish & Chips. When I arrived at 8pm, I noticed that the name on the storefront is not Dee's Fish & Chips, it was something else, but I was so excited that I just walked right in and did not take note of the actual name. The next most important factor that I noticed was that there was no line, and I was the only customer during my entire 15min visit. This is not a good sign being that this is the only fried fish spot in this neighborhood, demographically speaking. So the two guys in the shop were very nice and professional and the place was not fancy at all. I did not expect it to be glamourous anyway because most great fish & chips spots are simple and the food speaks for itself. It was however pretty clean as far as my eyes could see, and that of course is a big plus. I ordered the fish, shrimp, and chips combo which cost me about $14 (pretty average price for this meal). It came with 5 pieces of fried whiting, 4 medium-large sized shrimp, and a handful of chunky steak fries mixed with some medium sized fries. The fries were not all the same size, which was a little different, but all of them were cooked all the way. A funky factor was that my food did not come with any bread....no bread??? This is not common with authentic fish&chips spots! So to make my meal the real deal, I stopped at a corner store and picked up a $2 pack of whole wheat bread. When I got home, my food was still hot and fresh and I proceeded to dig in. When I tasted the fish, my taste buds were waiting for that flavor...that salty-fish-fried yummy taste...but I was left longing for that goodness which was clearly lacking. The fish had nooo flavor at all. I quickly busted open my kitchen cabinet and mixed up a concoction of garlic powder, salt, and sazon to sprinkle over the fish. That really saved it because I continued to happily eat. The pieces of fish were also very thinly sliced making it very possible to eat all 5 pieces without feeling like a total glutton. I tried one of the shrimp and strangely enough the shrimp had good flavor. This is probably because shrimp has its own natural shrimpy flavor which is what I was most likely tasting. The fries also needed a sprinkle of my seasoning mixture which is unforgivable b/c all fried potatoes need are a dust of salt and pepper and they would have been fine. I noticed that the cook did not put any seasoning on the fries when he took them from the frier...tisk, tisk. The tarter sauce was probably one of the best things as it was not watered down and deliciously tangy. But of course, they charge you .50 extra for each small, tiny container of tarter sauce requested. You get 2 little containers free, but only if you did not dress your food with the bottle of tarter sauce on the counter before it was wrapped up to go. Of course, I dressed my food before it was wrapped up so I had to pay the extra .50 per tarter sauce. All in all, If I am craving fish&chips desperately, I would go back to "Dee's" (forgot the real name) but I think I would only get the shrimp and chips. But then of course I would still be craving flaky, crispy, yum-yum fried fish. For that, I would have to take the hike to Harlem to Famous Fish on 145th Street & St. Nicholas Ave. Their fish is AMAZING, the best, the pieces of fish there are not see-through thin, they are the perfect size, and I always have several pieces of fish left over for the next day with one order. Also, every order comes with 2 free slices of warm, fluffy whole wheat bread. Additionally, Even when you dress your food with the tarter sauce bottles on the counter here, you still get free and unlimited extra tarter sauce containers upon request. I guess the only "con" at Famous Fish is that there is always more than likely a line that sometimes stretches halfway down the block...but of course this means that the food is worth the wait. read more

The staff seemed ok, place looked clean. I like that the food was made to order, always a plus. I found the fish to be a bit bland in flavor although it was cooked to the right texture. Wasn't pleased that they charge to give you bread, especially when what I ordered didn't come with any fries or sides. The shrimp were good, different from what I expected but good.
