We wish they had told us to not place an order when we asked "can we place a to go order ?" All they had to say is "no we are no longer accepting orders, vs giving rude attitude The food itself, the chicken kebabs were way too spicy; the "second side" was just a spicy sauce, so the whole beef and kebab plate that is supposed to come with 2 sides came with "salad" that had lettuce, jalapeño and onions; and the second side was a little container of a water with peppers sauce that was way too spicy. The beef kebabs were decent but it doesn't explain the $55 they charged for the 2 dishes, definitely not worth the price or the hype, super disappointing overall

I usually get my food to go because the restaurant can become crowded, and I prefer enjoying it somewhere more relaxed. My favorite way to do it is to pick up an order, take it to a nearby park, and enjoy the food outside. It makes for a simple and enjoyable meal without dealing with the busy dining area. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for good Afghan food, especially if you enjoy fresh bolani.

We came in on Saturday at 11:30 to an empty restaurant, but by noon it was packed. We ordered the mantu, bolani, a few kabobs, and the lamb shank challow. The appetizers were great - the mantu had a great flavor and felt very hearty. The leek and butternut squash felt homey and warm - our waitress said they were her favorite, and were so glad she gave us that recommendation! The leek paired nicely with the yogurt provided, as it was a little spicy and had an aroma pretty similar to chives. The squash bolani was slightly sweet, and almost felt like an in-between for dessert. Having both was a nice contrast. By far the murgh (chicken) kabob was our favorite skewer, as it was the juiciest meat, and quite tender. The table ranked the chaplee (ground meat, with a hint of spice) next in terms of flavor and texture, and teka (tri tip) was slightly more dry and bland compared to everything else. The lamb shank was quite tender but smaller than expected for the price; it still had a nice homey flavor though I prefer when restaurants provide more of that braised juice to go alongside the dish. I don't eat cilantro, so had requested there to be no cilantro in any dishes, but they said they couldn't remove it from the salad, so was a little sad about that. We also had to request for Overall, would highly recommend the chicken kabob and bolani - would love to come and try other appetizers too.

The restaurant was not crowded. There were only three other parties at the time. There was also ample parking. Our first dish was the Borani Gadinjon ($8.99), which is eggplant in a garlic, tomato and oil based sauce. It was good, especially when paired with the free bread that accompanies each meal. We ordered one Chicken Kabob plate ($18.99). The meat was really tender and juicy and had great flavor. We substituted the rice for salad at no charge, making it a much healthier dish. For an extra $7, you can order the Sultani Kabob ($25.99), which comes with an additional skewer. We ordered two chicken and one beef skewer. The beef, which was tri-tip, was very tender and not dry. There are many good options for Afghan food in Fremont. It's hard to tell the difference between them. The prices are comparable, and the food is very similar. The service level is comparable between the different establishments, too. Fremont Afghan does have a quieter dining area than some of the others. But we do notice that the size of the chicken pieces is smaller than the to go place near Fremont and Peralta. If you like Mediterranean food, this is worth a visit.

The restaurant was empty except for one other party, and we chose to sit in the lounge seating area, which features traditional Afghan seating that is low to the ground, casual, and unique--perfect for a date. The menu offered a wide variety of food, including vegetarian dishes. We enjoyed the chicken kabob, which came with rice and cucumber salad, and the eggplant, which also came with rice. Both were served with Afghan bread. As an appetizer, we ordered the potato Bolani, which was stuffed with potato and leek. It was also good, although slightly greasy. It's important to note that, presumably for religious reasons, they don't serve alcohol. The restaurant ambiance was peaceful and the service was good. Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience. One suggestion that might help bring in more lunchtime customers would be to offer lunch specials. We noticed a page in the menu that said "Lunch Specials Coming Soon," so perhaps that's already in the works.

The chicken kabob had herby, smoky seasoning with no real heat, and the chicken was actually tender instead of the dry rubber you usually get. The rice leans sweeter than you'd expect and it works. Staff was friendly and offered good suggestion to the menu. Price was reasonable.

This time, my camera ate before I did, ha! Here is a breakdown of what we ordered on this visit: 1. Steamed Chicken Momo: These were perfectly moist with an adequate, well-seasoned filling. Plus, their signature orange sauce never disappoints! 2. Mixed Fried Rice: This came loaded with eggs, chicken, and veggies. Unlike some places where the veggies feel like an afterthought, these tasted fresh. The portion size was great, flavorful and more than enough for two people. 3. Chicken Sizzler: There is nothing like hearing that loud sizzling sound when food is brought to your table! I initially expected it to come with fries and veggies, so I was pleasantly surprised to see it served on top of a huge bed of noodles. It was incredibly tasty. My only minor critique is that the menu just lists the name of the dish without a description. While I could have asked, it would be helpful if the menu explained what the sizzler entails, especially since their other menu items have descriptions. The Perks & Ambiance: Free Tea: A wonderful touch! They offer free, unlimited aromatic hot tea for dine-in customers, served in cute little espresso cups. Service & Seating: There is plenty of seating available. The service is prompt, though you might occasionally need to wave them over to get their attention, but it's definitely not a dealbreaker. Parking & Access Tip: There is ample parking in the complex, but getting to it can be a bit tricky right now due to the ongoing roadwork on Fremont Blvd. From the street, it almost looks like the restaurants in this plaza might be closed, but don't be fooled; they are absolutely up, running, and well worth the visit!
