Overall we had great experience in this BNB. Cozy room, with soft mattresses - I slept very good! Fall asleep fast and woke up very refreshed. We went to down to breakfast: coffee, tea, snacks, oatmeal. 4/5 because of breakfast - while it was good for snacks, but we went to the city for proper breakfast. The owner was nice but she put my mother in law in a different room then what we booked; then at 9 pm she knocked on the door and woke her up to say she was in the wrong room. Fifteen minutes later she knocked again to ask what name the reservation was under. She seemed very confused. I will not stay there again. read more

The place was clean, quiet and the couple running the place were very friendly... They are even dog-friendly. This was my first time at a B&B but no doubt I would return to see them when in town again. My friend and I went to the San Juan Islands for a girls' getaway. We found this spot on Yelp and were not disappointed. This bed and breakfast is really cute - it's a large house with a chicken coop. The room was large with comfortable bedding. The TV was a little small but I don't think people go to the San Juan Islands to watch TV in their rooms. The proprietor, Art, was really nice and helpful - and cooked a mean breakfast. For breakfast, we had an apple cobbler type of item to start and then had an olive and artichoke frittata with sausage. The food was great - really filling for our day of kayaking. You do get to know your housemates well since everybody sits at one large communal table. There is plenty of parking on the property, and the location is centrally located close to downtown Friday Harbor. read more

I didn't actually stay here, but I have to give this place 5 stars for their hospitality and kindness. My husband missed his stop on the last ferry and was about to be in Friday harbor at midnight with no where to go. This was the ONLY hotel who answered at 11:15 at night and the ONLY hotel on the island that seemed to care and wanted to help. He ended up back in Washington on the main land and we figured out a new plan. But I can't speak enough about how heartwarming it was to have someone care and be their willing to help. My family and I visited the Argyle House B&B for our first trip to Friday Harbor. We stayed in one if the two cottages on the property. The location is on a side street off the main strip of downtown Friday Harbor. The location allowed for easy walking into town. Our cottage was nicely decorated with a queen bed and leather hide-a-bed. The attached deck had a relaxing hot tub with a string of lights that created a nice ambiance. The staff was very personable and helpful offering restaurant suggestions and ensuring our stay was a pleasant one. Morning breakfasts were served at a large, nicely set table for eight. Our first breakfast started with fresh fruit and choice of beverages. The next course included a tasty frittata served with avocado, black beans, salsa, and tortilla. The second morning began with a different selection of fruit, followed by a delicious asparagus and tomatoe eggs benedict with cubed potatoes. We definitely plan to stay at the Argyle House B&B on our next trip to the island and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for a relaxing experience. read more

Did a weeklong trip in the San Juans. Some people hop between different B&Bs and stay on a new island each night, but we decided it would be simpler to use one place as home base. We definitely enjoyed our stay at Argyle House. (Note: This review focuses primarily around the Marilee cottage, which is where we stayed. Argyle has some rooms inside the main house, the Marilee and a honeymoon cottage.) LIKES: - Fresh, amazing cookies every day in your room. - The best breakfasts you could imagine. Art and Jennifer truly are great chefs. I never liked quiches or many egg dishes before, but they served an egg dish almost every morning, and it really changed my mind. We had spinach and egg frittata, southwestern egg/sausage on cornbread, some kind of artichoke quiche-like dish, an awesome herb souffle, etc. They made pancakes some mornings with oats inside and a great yogurt topping that blows the pants off syrup. Every breakfast came with a couple of sausage links and a very fresh fruit cup, as well as perfectly roasted coffee and your choice of orange, cranberry or apple juice. Some mornings, we got a little surprise such as blueberry muffins. - Ample parking close to Friday Harbor -- Argyle House is about a 12-minute walk to the ferry and downtown area. - Beautiful landscaping, despite the lack of a view and quite small outdoor space available for hanging out. - Extremely nice and warm staff. Art and Jennifer are very kind and helpful. - One of the most comfortable beds on which I have ever slept. - Free wifi, although the connectivity and speeds varied a lot. - Great selection of books about San Juan in the main common area of the Argyle House. DISLIKES: - Room was very small and awkwardly configured. The Marilee is marketed as a space for four because it has a pull-out sofa bed, but it was tight even with just two people. We ended up pulling out the bed on the sofa to have a place to lay out our clothes for the week because there was no dresser. There is a wardrobe, but it's wedged up against the bed on one side, so storing anything in there and then trying to look through it to pick out your clothes for the day would've been annoying. The room did have a small fridge and microwave, which was nice, as well as a TV with DirectTV. The shower was TINY. Barely enough space to turn around; much smaller than even your average shower stall (there's no tub in case you're wondering). Stranger still is that there's no sink in the bathroom... so you have to touch the door handle after using the bathroom to get back out into the main sleeping space where a sink is tucked away in the corner of the room. - Standard time for serving breakfast is 8:30 a.m. By the time you finish, your day is 1/3rd over! We found ourselves really wanting coffee way earlier than that (no pot in the room), and we're people who get up usually around 5 a.m. and start our day by 6 a.m., often even on weekends. When you're on vacation, you want to squeeze out every inch too! To be fair, Art and Jennifer will adjust the time and serve you early if you make a special request like we did our last day because we had to catch a ferry, so we ate at 7:15 a.m. that day. But I think it'd be nice if the standard time were set earlier or set up like I have seen done at other B&Bs where you just have a range from 6-10 a.m. or something that you can show up. Also, the dining space forces you to sit at one table with a bunch of other people you don't know. Sometimes this is interesting; sometimes it's awkward. I have seen other B&Bs spread smaller tables out around the dining room so you can have some privacy if you want it. - Everything at Argyle House is REALLY close together. Our back window faced the back door of the house, so we could hear the owner couple and their kids tooling around half the time. Our front window faced the main deck for the entire B&B, so we could hear people hanging out there talking or in the hot tub. And because there was no air conditioning, we were forced to keep our windows open the entire time. It's just a little unsettling to be able to constantly hear people while hanging out in your room. Luckily, we weren't there very much except for to sleep, and the place gets quiet at night with mostly older couples staying there. - Our trash didn't get emptied daily and there was only one small trash can. When you're picking up souvenirs, drinking a lot of bottled water, etc., it fills up fast! At the end of our week, we felt as though we got good value out of our stay and really enjoyed the food and comfy bed. But we aren't entirely sure we wouldn't try out somewhere else next time because of how cramped and awkward the room layout felt. Our checkin process was also pretty weird, as the owners had their daughter check us in, and she had the flu or something and acted like we were causing her a lot of inconvenience. read more

My mother and I came here for a trip at the end of May over the Memorial Day long weekend. Our room was cozy and clean - very comfortable bedding and great lavender bath products that are locally made. The breakfasts were VERY filling and delicious, and the hosts will accommodate dietary restrictions should you have any. It was a nice quiet location that was quiet at night, and close enough to walk the entire town. I would highly recommend this B&B and come here again. read more

Boyfriend and I came here on our trip to Washington and stayed here for two nights. I must say, it was a very enjoyable experience. We were greeted by Art, the husband who owns the Argyle House, and he was very welcoming and friendly. He showed us to our little cottage in the back. It was very clean, lots of space, and very home-y. After we settled in a bit, we went into the house, and Art offered us a glass of wine and told us about the exciting things to do around the island, gave us pamphlets of things to do, and provided his insights on the best places to eat. After speaking with him, he gave us plastic wine glasses so we could go hop in the hot tub before heading to bed. He also provided us robes to go to the hot tub in. The house is very cute, the family is very nice, their dog is super soft and friendly, and overall it was an absolutely great place. This was my first bed and breakfast experience, and it was definitely a great experience that makes me want to visit more bed and breakfasts in the future. Way more personal and comfortable than staying at a hotel, I absolutely loved it. Thank you Art and Jennifer for a truly wonderful and relaxing experience. My wife and I went here for some much needed rest from the city and work. Thankfully, that is exactly what we got! The thing that really makes this place great is the service. The family that lives in the house was really friendly and helpful. The hostess even had some pastries at the door as a nice treat for guests when coming and going. The food was incredible and plentiful; the hostess even went so far as to serve up sundaes on a platter and bring it to my room. There are plenty of information pamphlets in the house for guests and the hosts are very knowledgeable about activities around the islands. There are also some things available to do in the house, including board games, puzzles, a guitar, piano and various other toys/games. This helps make the place very kid friendly. The main living room is spacious and cozy; it's a great place for a cup of coffee and a book. My wife and I went here during the off season of tourist activity, so the house only had a couple of guests during our stay; I'm not sure if the place would be really crowded when full, but I get the feeling that it won't be due to it's relatively small size. They do offer a private room that is not connected to the main house that is large enough for a family of four or so. We stayed in the Sunflower Room, which is just big enough for two and was well cared for. If you are looking for a relaxing B&B, this is it. It's not too pricey and I think its worth every penny spent. read more

The couple who run this took over from the past owners in recent years, understandably to great results in the decor, which is tidy, pleasant, and true to a historic feel. The breakfasts are delicious but a little over-complicated. Why not offer toast and eggs rather than a souffle. Not everyone is a gourmet, and it would give us a chance to decide what we want to eat. Wonderful fruit salad every morning. A good base from which to explore the island. We stayed here three nights, coming on by car with our friends, and when leaving walking to the ferry with our bags along the five or so blocks of street. read more

Also the lights over the sink were not working. Lastly the jacuzzi needed to be cleaned and they were doing it the night we were there Otherwise it would have been wonderful. What i liked: Clean. and excellent lavender body care products.. the rest: a) it is not at all in nature, but in town surrounded by other houses on a fairly busy st. b)there was noise at night from a neighboring house c) we could hear the hot tub pump very loudly in the cottage c) too much light streaming into the cottage from all the various lights; needs blackout curtains d) not that private. the cottage is clustered behind the house among many other houses and the adjacent honeymoon cottage, which, if honeymooners were at it, you would hear it..... e) finally, Art the owner, seems pretty burned out. Yes, he seems reserved, but when he does speak its with the demeanor of a funeral home manager. To wit, not a single smile, cant say we felt particularly welcome, or that he was patient with my two questions about the place. We never actually met the wife who never left the kitchen. There was no fresh baked goods or anything like that at breakfast. f) the extra bed in the cottage, the sofa bed, is absurd, only little kids would manage on it, unless you like a large horizontal bar digging into your back. we ended up putting the mattress from it right on the floor, which was better, if cold and hard. g) the cottage is a new building with no charm in the structure or the decorating. Nothing about the place was dreadful dreadful, it might suit for someone with no car who for some reason wants to be in town, but if you want peace and quiet and serenity find someplace out of town..... read more

Friendly, affordable, great breakfast, few minutes to downtown. Our family of four (2 adults, two elementary school age kids) have just returned from 2 nights stay at the B&B. We found plenty of comfort at the Marilee Cottage (and an adjacent hot tub) after returning from biking trips and exploring the island. If, however, you are more "stay-in" types, the Marilee might soon feel crowded. There is an impressive Whale museum in town and a public playground not far from Argyle B&B. The owners serve tasty, generous and balanced breakfast, after which you don't have to roam for food for several hours. I beg to disagree with the reviewer that calls for the breakfast be simpler, such as toast etc. That defeats the purpose of Bed and BREAKFAST! The one star off is for neatness: if the deck and adjacent pathway were cleaned of debris, we would not cary so much of it on our shoes and everyone would benefit. read more

We were really disappointed! There was dog poop all over the yard. The value was not there for what we spent. Our room which was the best in the place for our special occasion was old and tired. No ice or coffee in the room. the TV was about 12 x 12. The breakfast was ok. The one think is it's location is close to town and the owner is nice. But don't expect quality. read more

This was my first experience staying in a bed and breakfast and I really enjoyed it! I took my mom to Friday Harbor for a weekend birthday trip and rented out the Robin's Nest room, which had a twin and queen bed. The room was cute and cozy and we had our own private bathroom, so that was great. We also got to enjoy the great hot tub out back. In the morning breakfast was served at 8:30 and we sat with the rest of the guests that were staying there. I was kind of nervous about that part because I thought it would be awkward, but it ended up being one of my favorite parts of the trip. We got to meet people from all over the place and share stories and get to know each other over an amazing breakfast. They cooked an incredible artichoke frittata that morning, accompanied by blackberries, banana, cantaloupe, banana bread, juice and coffee. And they had a great selection of hot sauce, which was great for a hot sauce connoisseur such as myself lol. The owners were very sweet and accommodating. Anyone that has written a negative review must be accustomed to fancy 5 star hotels or something, because I absolutely loved our stay here! I will probably stay here again in the future. read more

We just returned from staying the weekend at the Argyle House Bed & Breakfast. We stayed in the Marilee cottage for two nights. The accommodations were warm and inviting and the innkeepers were very pleasant. We loved the privacy of our room and especially enjoyed the use of the outdoor hot tub (particularly after a full day of kayaking). We had breakfast in the main house both mornings and it was wonderful. The spinach quiche was particularly good as well the carrot-cake served on the second day of our stay. I highly recommend the Argyle House for anyone looking for a comfortable get away. It was cozy, cute, friendly, and just what we needed for our relaxing weekend away. On a side-note, the proprietors also were very helpful in coordinating the delivery of a surprise birthday cake to our room for my boyfriend's 30th birthday. They also gave us driving directions for returning home to assist us in navigating around a recent bridge closure. Excellent customer service!! read more
