That was one of the best BNB where we've been (across US and Europe). I loved contactless check in - which means that we can come any time and do not worry about late check in and that we would woke up owner. Home was very cozy, it was obvious that it is maintained with love. In the morning we had nice time at deck on swing. We had breakfast (tea, coffee, oatmeals, fruits, boiled eggs, cookies, waffles). Along with great food, we had nice conversation with owner. He gave us valuable advices regarding islands, what to visit and generally about the life on the island. First, the Inn is old and run down and management don't even try to pretend to professional. The air conditioning in my room rattled so hard you couldn't even hear conversation. Second, an Inn employee hit my brand new car (Mercedes Benz with 100 miles on it) while I was getting a treatment. As I was leaving, the Innkeeper or Manager laughingly told me my car was hit. I thought it was a joke because he kept laughing and telling jokes. He had not called to report the accident and didn't notify me until I was walking out the door to catch a ferry to go back home (live on island). I finally told the manager (or whoever he was) that thanks, but I wasn't in the mood for humor given the circumstances. I had to call the Police to make a report. The report clearly showed the employee was at fault. Given that we live on an Island, this is going to cost us thousands - not even to mention the huge depreciation on a brand new car. After some consideration, it seemed reasonable that perhaps the Inn would credit my stay given the circumstances. My wife called the Inn and spoke with the manager and owner. At first, they immediately hung up on her saying "we don't have time for this" - she was being very polite. Flabbergasted, she called back, and they said we don't care about your situation or that our employee hit your car. Call the insurance company. They were exceptionally rude about it as well. Finally, there are other accommodation options in La Conner. I highly recommend them over Blue Heron. People like this don't deserve our business. read more

The bed and breakfast is located right on the sound which is lovely. The inn keeper was pleasant however the breakfasts are not what one expects when you are staying in a bed and breakfast and paying top dollar per night. Everything on the menu was in a box or wrapping. Cereal, peanut butter, jam. Only a Keurig which I do not consider to be quality coffee. Eggs in the freezer pre cooked from Costco. Great location for Orcus Island. This B&B is about equal distance from the ferry, Eastsound, and Deer Harbor. We stayed 3 nights, the first two in the Egret room and the third in the Walrus room. Our stay began with the owner walking up and greeting us when we parked and told us how to get to the room. The room was simple with a private ¾ bath. The room had a large private deck that over looks the water with a table and 2 chairs. The bed was comfortable, and the house was quiet despite there being other guests in adjoining rooms. The breakfast was simple with coffee and self-service bagels or yogurt. The third night we staid in a smaller room with a much smaller deck and a privet bath across the hall. Wile one the island we went to Moan State Park (about 35 minutes away) and did some of the hikes, explored Eastsound (about 14 minutes away) and did a whale watching tour out of Deer Harbor (about 8 minutes away). We enjoyed our stay and would defiantly consider staying there again. read more

We booked the Pelican Room at the Blue Heron five months in advance, knowing that it was Labor Day weekend and that reservations would disappear if we waited too long. It turned out to be an excellent choice in location and for comfort. The inn was located about 5-10 minutes from our friends' wedding rehearsal and ceremony locations, so we didn't have to rush to get to anywhere else on the island. Our hosts, Bogdan and Carol, made us feel very welcome from the moment we pulled into their parking lot. They were quick to give us a hand with our luggage and check us in to our large room. They even had a play pen ready for J to sleep in, had we not already brought our portable bassinet. The Pelican Room is the largest of the 4 rooms available at the Inn. It has a king bed, a day bed, its own full bathroom, and a nice little porch with a great view of the bay. Breakfast is served at a time that you can specify. Bogdan and Carol are great caretakers and they help give the Blue Heron that cozy feeling that you want in a bed and breakfast inn. Blue Heron Bed & Breakfast is a solid option for staying on Orcas Island. I enjoyed my stay. Carol (I didn't meet Bogdan) was very sweet and was excited to meet and greet us. They also make a mean oatmeal cookie and decorate a lovely main house. There were a few little things here and there that kept it from being a 5-star affair. We stayed in the Otter room, detached from the house, which was actually quite nice because the main house was fairly noisy whenever folks were up and about (another late arriving guest seemed to wake everyone else up). Also, while everyone else is commenting on the flexible breakfast times that didn't seem to work for me (maybe I was just too late a sleeper!) as by the time I got up, breakfast was clearly done, but that's totally fine--I really don't expect it. The location was great, easy to get to and right across from the water, so if you have a room in the main house you get a deck overlooking it. Pretty swell. read more

While browsing through bed and breakfast web sites, I kept finding those forbidding words, "no children". So when I found the Blue Heron Bed and Breakfast site, I immediately booked our 3 nights. Carol and Bodgan, the owners, allow children *and* pets! I knew that we were going to enjoy our stay in what had to be a down to earth, welcoming, bed and breakfast. We were not dissappointed. Our dog, Chloe, got her own comfortably padded sleeping basket with spare towels to dry her off after her morning romps in the wet grass. The Blue Heron has a good-sized, fenced-in play area for the pets, toys for them to play with, and big and small doggie treats for them to nibble. It was like dog heaven for Chloe. Our room was comfortable and well appointed. Our daughter just loved her own little bed. Breakfasts were right on time each morning and the food was delicious every time. The afternoon snacks at the coffee nook were wonderful. And best of all, the hosts Carol and Bogdan, are friendly, eager to make you comfortable, flexible with our special arrangement, and interesting to talk to. We'll be going back to the Blue Heron again! read more

Relaxing location, quiet atmosphere, and friendly owners. This B&B has several rooms for great prices, plus there's a military discount in case you miss it on the website. We stayed in the Huron Room, which has a balcony with a two-person table, perfect for coffee or tea, plus an extra half-bed for a kid or something. The owners really do think of anything you could want, and they have a coffee maker in most rooms, but a conveniently located hot water heater and coffee maker available for everyone's use, as well as wine bottle openers and wine glasses. The location is about ten minutes from the ferry landing, and ten from Eastsound. And the dog, Pulaski, is a pretty chill pup. Keep in mind, sound will go through some of the walls; it's the only thing we found that annoyed us slightly, but the other guests were quite quiet. We'll absolutely stay here again, so check it out. read more

My wife and I were on the island for a class reunion weekend. We travel frequently and were looking forward to this weekend for several months. We got in late and had emailed the owners to let them know what ferry we were on. There was a guy on the computer in the living room when we arrived. I guess he is the owner. There was no greeting or check in. We just went upstairs to our room. Really, it's more of a finished attic space. It was very small! As I sat on the side of the bed my knees were against the wall. I stood up and realized that I had almost ripped a wall sconce off with my head. Had I been a few inches to the right I would have shattered it. I will say that the bed was very comfortable and that we had a good night's rest. We only had a couple of gym bags for our clothes, so they don't take up much space, but there was no where to put them. We set them on the tiny outside deck so that we wouldn't trip on them. It was August so they wouldn't get wet. There is a bathroom across the hall. My wife was concerned that she would run into other guests as she traversed the hall. She wasn't very comfortable commuting to take a shower. There was some liquid soap by the sink, but nothing for the tub. Fortunately, I carry a bar of soap with me in my gym bag. When we got downstairs we found a Keurig machine with two styles of coffee; a light breakfast blend and a flavored coffee. If you want something a little more robust I would suggest that you bring your own. There is a small counter top display refer (like you might find in a mini-mart) with several flavors of store bought bagels, some creamer, and a couple of hard-boiled eggs. Breakfast is 'Help yourself'. There was no one in the kitchen or anywhere else, for that matter. Overall we felt like we were squatting in someone else's house while they were gone. It was neither welcoming nor comfortable. My brother had rented a VRBO on the island and had room available for us there. So, even though we had paid in full (you have to do that to reserve a room) we had no desire to go back. read more

This place is so cute!! We stayed in the walrus room, which is tiny (just a bed and a very small patio) and a bathroom that is across the hall. (The other two rooms are more expensive because they have an attached private bathroom and a larger patio.) I LOVE this place. Its so cute and quaint. Small but has everything you need and is clean. It's homey but where you feel comfortable and not like you're invading someone's else's home. We didn't interact with the hosts much, but they were nice! Breakfast was delicious and the tea/coffee they put out was great. I loved just sitting on the patio with a glass of wine or sitting on the porch swing and reading. They have a great view of the dock and it's quiet and comfortable. The only negative is that it can be a bit loud when the other guests are walking around and talking (can hear everything) but they provide ear plugs if it is too much. The bed was comfortable, the shower was great. For the price, it was amazing!! read more

We traveled to Orcas Island to pick up a rescue dog. We only needed one night, but it had to be dog friendly. We found we only had this one option as the other dog friendly hotels were booked. I am so glad this was the one. Loved the contactless set up, this alleviated the angst of check in. Our room was beautiful, large, clean and lovely view. We had our own little balcony, with table and chairs. We stayed in the pelican room, great views of the bay. Our host was very friendly and a great source of local lore and info. The continental breakfast, was fresh and varied. SO had the waffles, fresh made by Ed the owner, he said they were great. I went for the yogurt and fruit, with scramble eggs. The breakfast was not fancy, but as Ed explained to us, it is not easy to keep a variety of items on hand, as all his food shopping has to be done on the main land. Imagine having to take a day every week or so to just grocery shop. I wanted to say this is a great place for dogs, there is a large fenced area, for the pups, complete with bags and doggie trash can. The front garden is also fenced, so never any worry about a loose dog. We will be back for a longer stay, be sure to book early as there are not many dog friendly places to stay. read more

Me and my girlfriend are having a lovely stay here on Easter weekend. The Egret room is small but has everything we need. No mini fridge or cooking facilities. But the price is very reasonable on AirBnB. We have a covered deck that is open on 3 sides. Bring a tablecloth and a candle for the small table. Perfect room for a romantic get away. This B & B is actually located in West Sound overlooking the harbor with a beautiful view. Bogdan and Carol are the most gracious hosts ever! They went above and beyond the call of duty to say the least. Breakfast was superb every morning and was served to accommodate our schedule each day. They served breakfast at different times to take care of their other guest's schedules. We visited the islands with 2 other couples for 2 weeks on a bicycle tour of Lopez, Orcas and San Juan Islands and this was our most memorable stay. We plan to return to Orcas Island and this is where we will return. read more

My husband and I recently stayed at this adorable b & b while we were on Orcas Island for a wedding. We only stayed one night but really enjoyed ourselves while we were there. The owners were kind enough to get our room ready early so we could check in before the normal time. Our room had a beautiful little deck with a table and chairs that overlooked the water and it was gorgeous! We had our own bathroom in our room which was awesome and totally convenient. The dog running around was cute and friendly and made me feel like I was at home. They let us choose what time we wanted breakfast which was nice because we wanted to sleep in a little. The breakfast the next morning was delicious and fresh and totally hit the spot. My husband and I will come back to this b&b in the future when we have more time to explore the cute little island. read more

We stayed here for a quick getaway and really enjoyed it. Lucy and crew just make you feel so welcome and are always asking what they can do to make the stay even better. Our room was really great: comfy bed and fluffy towels, robes and good soap and lotions. A fridge and glasses in the room make things that much better. Lucy suggested a restaurant that we not yet tried that was spot on! We enjoyed tea and our Scotch later in front of the fireplace with a chocolate treat. We skipped the available games, movies and books, but how nice for those who are staying longer! After a good sleep we headed down for breakfast. Being carb abhorrent, we skipped the French toast but so enjoyed the scrambled eggs with cheddar and asparagus along with the fresh fruit and Greek yogurt service. Homemade raspberry compote made the dish. My only only only beef was the bacon: a better choice would be a better bacon: it was not deserving of the rest of the plate... A maple or applewood thick slice would be welcome. Since the portions are very generous going from three to two slices would offset the upgrade. We will be back soon! read more

My little dog and I decide to stay in Blue Heron instead of driving all the way back after hanging out in the island. The experience was really enjoyable. When we arrived to the parking lot, we were immediately greeted by Mark who offered to take luggage and showed us to the room and on the way explained everything about B&B, how things work etc. He explained about how stuff works inside the room, which is really lovely. It was Egret room, and it has private bathroom (very cute) and private balcony overlooking the water (just across small street from the Sound). There are two gardens where my doggie had a blast running. Breakfast was very good too. The overall experience was enjoyable, Mark and Shannon were very nice and helpful, I think their service was exceptional. I highly recommend and hopefully will go back in summer or spring. read more

We just stayed here over the weekend and the couple running it and the room were fantastic. Easy to find. We had the Pelican room - so two beds. Very roomy. Nice large bathroom with tub. Coffee maker, aromatherapy and more in the hallway. Nice breakfast that should please everyone - bagels, yogurt, mandarins etc. Nice common room with New Yorker, books and musical instruments. I left my lights on and my battery went dead and the fellow went to his boat and got his charger. Close to Deer Harbor. Great views. It was flawless. read more

We only stayed one night as we were just doing a brief trip to Orcas for whale watching, but my 3yo twins and my sister and I were warmly welcomed and accommodated in every way in the Otter Room. The room was warmly appointed, without anything very breakable (thank goodness), and it was brightly lit during the day due to three skylights. There is a little hill in the back of the house that the boys loved running up and down - just the thing after being cooped up in the car for a long drive and then having to behave themselves on the ferry on the way over. The boys made a mess at breakfast but our hosts were patient and understanding. The prices for both the room and the full breakfast are excellent and the location is perfect for accessing pretty much everything else on the island. Our hosts had excellent suggestions for how to spend our time before our whale watching tour and had lots of information on other island activities available in the main house. We are very happy with our stay and will definitely be back the next time we come to Orcas! It's very rare to find a B&B that will gladly and skillfully accommodate small children, so this place is truly a treasure! read more

We chose the Blue Heron because it was the most reasonably priced on San Juan or Orcas islands, but did not sacrifice anything in terms of quality. The Egret Room was cozy, with an outdoor deck with a breathtaking view of the water. Breakfast was delightful, with the staff cheerfully accommodating my low-carb-yet-meatless diet. Speaking of the staff, they were bright and friendly throughout the stay. Lovely downstairs area with a fireplace in each room. As an added touch, they surprised me with a balloon on the door when they found out it was my birthday. They were also extremely knowledgeable about restaurants and locations on the island, and were more than happy to give us suggestions on where to go for our first trip here. When we come back to the islands in the future, we will definitely be staying here again. read more

We had a wonderful visit at the Blue Heron Bed and Breakfast! Our day hike put us behind for check in, but we arrived to a note on the door welcoming us. Our room, the Egret, provided a gorgeous view of the West Sound. The Keurig upstairs allowed for a late night drink of cocoa whilst enjoying the evening air on the back deck. Carol and Bogdon made a delicious spinach and egg breakfast with spiced bread, watermelon, and French press.
