Homemade Breakfast Dessert muffins with fruit
Maureen R.

The innkeepers are relaxed, hospitable and caring toward all their guests, creating a feeling of being home. They highlighted interesting and fun places to go and see, as well as activities and restaurants on Orcas, for us. The inn is well appointed with antique furnishings throughout. The beds are comfortable and cleanliness is prioritized. The breakfasts are superb! I, as well as many others, know that this is the best breakfast on Orcas! And my honest opinion is that it is also the best Bed and Breakfast on Orcas.

So many beautiful details on the property

We had such a wonderful stay. The food each day was creative, high quality, and so tasty. The secluded hot tub where you could reserve individual time was a highlight. The host was friendly, kind, and as chatty or unobtrusive as you wanted. There were so many beautiful, well thought out details in the rooms and the property as a whole, and the location was perfect. Lots of stuff within walking distance or a short drive but not so congested with other visitors.

Innkeepers Extraordinaire, Jill and Charles
Tom M.

Our three day stay at Kangaroo House could not have been more satisfactory. Jill and Charles made us feel welcomed from beginning to end. The house itself is noteworthy, built in 1907 and operated as an Inn since an early date. The structure is an authentic Craftsman furnished with period pieces. The inn has been lovingly cared for and nurtured for the last 16 years by Jill and Charles, it projects authenticity and charm. Our room was comfortable and well equipped. It must also be said, the breakfast is amazing; creative, featuring local organic ingredients, worth a detour by itself. Don't miss this gem of the San Juan Islands. The photo shows the innkeepers extraordinaire on the front steps of their welcoming establishment.

Breakfast pizza blew my socks off!

Hands down an amazing place to stay of in the area. Charles was kind enough to help find us a later ferry so we did not have to trek out there in the wee morning hours. The home is very warm and welcoming, as are the hosts. Breakfast and the hot tub were the highlights of our stay.

I came here with my boyfriend for a little anniversary getaway and we stayed at the Goldfinch room. Yes, all the rooms are named after different birds. The place is quite cozy. At night, there were free beverages and snacks we could take and there also was a tv with a streaming service to end your night with. In the morning, we woke for the breakfast and were served by Amanda who takes deep care of the bed and breakfast. She also has her own little pottery studio next door. She made us some eggs, bacon, pancakes, served with muffins and we got to choose our drink. It felt very cozy to wake up to this. Food is pretty standard when it comes to breakfast, but I liked that it was made upon arrival into the space. After breakfast, we hopped onto the hot tub, it wasn't too hot but more like warm. This could be due to it being freezing cold outside. The lookout was absolutely gorgeous though, very serene I might add. I would consider staying at Otters Pond again if I were to come back to the area, maybe in a different season?

The location was perfect for our stay on Orcas Island... notably with quick drives to downtown Eastsound, Moran State Park and Mount Constitution.

Second, an Inn employee hit my brand new car (Mercedes Benz with 100 miles on it) while I was getting a treatment. As I was leaving, the Innkeeper or Manager laughingly told me my car was hit. I thought it was a joke because he kept laughing and telling jokes. He had not called to report the accident and didn't notify me until I was walking out the door to catch a ferry to go back home (live on island). I finally told the manager (or whoever he was) that thanks, but I wasn't in the mood for humor given the circumstances. I had to call the Police to make a report. The report clearly showed the employee was at fault. Given that we live on an Island, this is going to cost us thousands - not even to mention the huge depreciation on a brand new car. After some consideration, it seemed reasonable that perhaps the Inn would credit my stay given the circumstances. My wife called the Inn and spoke with the manager and owner. At first, they immediately hung up on her saying "we don't have time for this" - she was being very polite. Flabbergasted, she called back, and they said we don't care about your situation or that our employee hit your car. Call the insurance company. They were exceptionally rude about it as well. Finally, there are other accommodation options in La Conner. I highly recommend them over Blue Heron. People like this don't deserve our business.

This is a lovely property where seemingly every guest gets a water view. In the mornings I would raise the shades and watch geese and dear roam around the field that runs to the waterfront. As the day wore on, the resident goats, chickens, and pony took their turn in the yard and the tide moved in and out, constantly changing the scene and providing something new to see, hear, and photograph obsessively (a handful of pics capturing my willing subjects are uploaded here). The hosts are extremely friendly and, in my opinion, quite special in that they leave the degree of guest interaction entirely up to you. You receive directions to your accommodations with your email confirmation and can let yourself in without assistance. However, they are eager to make themselves available any time you have questions, want recommendations, need something, etc. To me, this makes PCF great for everyone from a family looking for guidance on an activity-filled vacation to a couple seeking privacy during a romantic getaway weekend. As described in other posts, the attention to detail here is phenomenal. The setting may be rustic, but the rooms are very nicely appointed and extremely clean. My suite had beautiful wood flooring throughout, a tremendously comfortable bed, and any amenity you could possibly need. Hair dryer? Check. Rainy day books and DVDs? Check. Complete set of kitchenware? Check. This last point was a nice selling point for me in particular. As a frequent solo traveler, I don't care a lot about dining out (it's a bit awkward on your own and it's a quick drain on the cash flow!). It was fantastic that the suite came with everything I needed to prepare my own food and the eggs from the hens and fresh veggies from the garden meant I had to buy very few supplemental items to complete my meals (check out the Eastsound Farmer's Market or ferry landing grocery store). I could go on and on, but I should leave some things for you to discover during your own stay. Needless to say, highly recommend Pebble Cove Farm!

We enjoyed the hot tub, bonfire, the garden, beachfront, and the use of the rowboats to and around the smaller island. We saw jellyfish, starfish, deer, eagles on the property not to mention the chickens, horse, and goats on the property. They provide a glass jar of milk and orange juice and are able to pick from the vegetables in the garden. The kitchen is not a full kitchen, but provides all the necessities needed to make a decent meal. The rooms were very nice, however, they use organic cleaning products. These products did not thoroughly clean the suite and would prefer stronger chemicals. The towels were stiff and rough on the body. We were here for my birthday and had 3 rooms reserved, but unfortunately 1 friend was unable to make it and tried to notify the staff via telephone but did not get ahold of anyone. My other friends were promised a room at 2pm, but was not ready until after 4pm. Needless to say the check-in wasn't smooth. The property is a great place and would come back, just a few hiccups along the way.

In order to deal with Covid19, Riley has an ozone machine that runs for two hours to clean the rooms.' The cleaning wasn't done when we arrived (check in time is 3pm, we arrived slightly after that), so we wandered the far. We got to hold a chicken and pet a rooster, and then we tasted a few lovely ripe tomatoes from the greenhouse. We were excited to see a fig tree, although none of the fruits were ripe. The farmhouse was perfect for us as a couple. Lovely comfortable bedroom, mattress and pillows, with thick and soft sheets. The bathroom was large. The kitchen has everything you could want for cooking. We made pizza and plum jam while we were there. The farm eggs were great, as was the local yogurt and bacon, Dave's organic bread, and freshly roasted coffee. We didn't get any jam or granola (which we read about in other reviews), but we made our own. We loved being able to explore the garden. The kale was sweet and the basil was fragrant! Things to note: I had been really excited about the "soaking tub" but it was a little grimy on the sides. Though I suspect it was because the water there is hard, and I didn't feel comfortable filling the tub to soak in. I had also expected the pizza kit to be a rolled out pizza dough that you just put topping onto. What we got was pizza dough that needed to be rolled/tossed/shaped. The pizza oven also came with minimal instructions so we had to text Riley about it and then google how to make pizza. (450F, precook the crust, then cook the crust with ingredients). The pizza was very good though. We loved the black garlic and the tomato sauce. Riley was generous about sharing the bounty of the land (and sea!) with us, and we loved his hospitality.

They were super nice and apologetic. They gave us a bottle of wine and a few pieces of nice soap as a consolation. That's the disappointment and why I knocked them down to 2 stars (it would have been a 1 star had the rest of the experience note been so nice). I know this was an unexpected event. And they should have refunded part of the not-inconsequential price for that night or offered a discount on a future stay.
