My wife and I ate this delightful little small town, hole in the wall restaurant today. I only call…read moreit "Hole in the wall" due to its location and size. It is in Lower Historical Buckeye. This building has been there for more than 100 yrs I would guess. It is worth the drive. Trust me. The owner, Maria, who was delightful and her youngest son, Marco, were there today. What a lovely youngman. As a Certified Chef who is retired but has never worked in a restaurant but knows great food and is a true Foody, I write my reviews from the standpoint of a customer who loves the whole culinary experience from the greeting to the door closing behind me. The following is how I rate each experience from 1 to 5 with 1 being awful and not recommended to 5 being outstanding and you've got to try this place. 1. The greeting: We were welcomed Marco and told to seat ourselves where we would like. 2. Atmosphere / Vibe: It wasn't to busy for the noon hour and the noise level was low with country music playing in the background just loud enough to hear but not to loud that you have to yell in order to have a conversation. It has that GREAT FAMILY RESTAURANT feeling to it. 3. Menu: A great selection of items to choose from. See their menu on their website. https://monroeskitchen.net/ 4. Service: Marco is a high school kid who works at his mom's restaurant when not in school. He is not by any means a "professional" server. He's just a hard working kid who was very tentative to our needs and easy to talk to. His tip reflected that as well. He kept our drinks filled and cleared empty plates in a timely manner while cleaning and restocking other tables. 5. Food prep & Presentation: I had the Hawaiian Burger which was cooked to perfection with the spicy fries and a side of onion rings. My wife had the Grilled Chicken Caprese Sandwich with the same fries. Everything was cooked completely and all was served hot at the same time. You can tell when something has been waiting under a heat lamp. This was not the case here. Portions were perfect for the person who is a big eater and for the one who doesn't mind taking home their leftovers. 6. Price Point: Price point is spot on for the portions. A good value. NOTE: It is well worth the drive. Call ahead as their hours change from now and then.

The bison are kept on site, so this is about as fresh as it gets. Prices are a bit of sticker shock if you're used to getting meat specials at the grocery store, but here you know where the meat comes from and how fresh it is. I read a lot of ground meat in grocery stores is re-colored and re-packaged several times. So that ground beef for $2/lb might not be such a great deal. Bison is a unique meat. I tried the bison bacon. It was very flavorful, but I forgot to add a bit of oil so it tasted dry. Second try was much better. The bison steaks were very tasty and grilled well. If you're looking for a more natural and local option for your food source, I recommend this place. The price may mean less meat in your diet, but that's not really a bad thing.

Let's be honest--it is what it is with this Fry's. If you live in the Buckeye area, you're kind of…read morestuck with this location unless you want to drive all the way down Jackrabbit to the next closest one. Store Environment Most of the employees seem completely miserable, and several have even told me they can't keep staff. That tracks, because the store is frequently low on stock, especially in basic areas. I'm not sure if it's a staffing issue, delivery delays, or just poor management--but it's noticeable. Deli Chicken = Buckeye's Best That said, I've gotta give props to their fried chicken at the deli--it's hands down the best in Buckeye ever since the Love's gas station on Miller stopped serving it. That said, it's hit or miss. Some days you'll get someone awesome who's on top of it; other days, they stop serving 30 minutes early and act like you're bothering them by asking. Still, when it's fresh and hot--it's really good. Checkout Nightmare The biggest frustration by far is checkout. There are never enough cashiers, and even the self-checkout has long lines, especially in the evenings. It's exhausting when you're trying to just grab groceries and get home in time to cook dinner. I know I'm not alone--this is probably everyone's #1 complaint. Hope on the Horizon There's a new Fry's location opening soon on Miller, and everyone in Buckeye is praying it'll help alleviate the traffic and chaos at this Watson location.
