Fish soup... WITHOUT FISH! But.. there was rice!
Marta T.

OMG!!! Worst money spend EVER!! I havE NEVER been SO DISAPOINTED!!! We made an order and they brought drinks in tje same time as food ( about 20min from order), but that was the smallest.. The Chefs fish soup was cold and with 3 mussels (1 of them was only a shell) and 3 clams and rice... THAT'S IT!!!! For 13€!!! I try few spoons and didn't eat it.. It was DISCUSTING!!! And fritten squids was in old oil and cold!!! The Caipirina was without alcohol (we tried another one in a bar next to this place and there was generosly made cocktail).

Excellent and strong red sangria!

Absolutely my favorite meal in Barcelona. I'd return just to order another plate of tomato bread. It's not a complicated dish and nearly every restaurant serves it. But the bread Arenal used, they way they grilled it and served it with good olive oil and flaked sea salt made tomato bread very, very memorable. But there's more! The sangria was the BEST in Barcelona (and we tried a lot!). The red sangria was perfect - full of triple sec and fruit, not at all watered down with soda or juice! The house olives were addictive. Olives brined with hot peppers, pickles and carrots - delicious. The paella was wonderful. Flavorful but not salty rice full of seafood. Their dish even included small scallops and diced calamari mixed with the rice. The shellfish was fresh and tender. The grilled razor clams were a little sandy but so yummy in their garlic sauce, we barely cared. And the cod fritters came with a tomato jam that really added so much to the fried fish. I loved that Arenal took every dish and added something to it to make it different, more delicious, and memorable. As for location, you can't get much better. Tables are set up right next to the sand. If you get a table along the edge, you can keep one foot on the beach. They shade tables during the day and turn on heaters at night. The only downside is that Arenal is not open on Sundays. We tried to eat here for a third (and last) time during the trip and were SO disappointed it was closed. The other place we tried couldn't compare.

A very good tiny beach restaurant you would miss, by just walking by. BUT, you need to stop and get the tapas and seafood platter. it's really worth it!!! Mixed tapas as starter and then choose your main course which will satisfy you even more. the view from the beach side to the oacean is just awesome. Go and check it out, but please call first - it's quite a busy spot with lots of locals people!

Beautiful view

Our seafood paella was delicious, but the vegetarian options - gazpacho and grilled vegetables with romesco - were honestly even better!

Nestled in an unassuming network of cobble stone lined alley ways are hidden gems worth discovering. We came looking for tapas, paella, sangria; and we found just that. Location: Plaza de España is within a 5 min walk, blocks away from shopping, and 30 minutes from the airport by way of shuttle. Used Google Maps with several sharp turns to find this local favorite. Service: the owner employs his pet Pomeranian, that follows the wait staff unconditionally. This is a no frills restaurant; grab a seat anywhere you like, and order off the menu. What we ate: Table service - pitted olives; briny and herbaceous. So delicious as an appetizer. Crisp Potatoes - served with aioli and red pepper sauce; so simple yet so comforting. Fried Calamari - can't go wrong with crispy calamari. Pork & Mushroom Paella - I know we're used to seeing seafood, but pork and mushroom with crispy rice is different, bold, and worth each bite. Sangria Blanco - I won't lie, it was heaven with the first sip, and it left me wanting more. Unlike its red cousin; white sangria is lighter and more fruit forward. So refreshing! After 18 hours of transiting; this was a delectable experience.

Ziryab seemed to fit the bill, so we made plans to stop here during our first night in the city. Ziryab is located close to the Gothic Quarter, on side street. It's kind of inconspicuous from the outside, but the interior gives way to a really welcoming space. The restaurant is separated into two main areas, with an earth-tone color scheme that has a rustic, almost cave-like aesthetic. The high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows keep the dining room open and spacious. The tapas menu had a good selection, and we decided on several items: pan con tomate, sweet potato rolls, chicken cannelloni, bacon-wrapped figs, croquettes, falafel, and a charcuterie board. All the tapas were great - my favorites were the chicken cannelloni, pan con tomate, and the charcuterie board. The cannelloni especially was a standout - definitely a unique dish, and the chicken was super flavorful. We opted for dessert, and got the feta whip cheesecake - this was great as well. The combination of tang and sweet was a good finisher to our meal. Service was great - everyone was friendly and our dishes were served at a good pace. Overall, I'm glad I tried out Ziryab - the tapas were delicious and atypical of ones you find elsewhere in Barcelona. I would have no qualms returning here for another meal.

The service was very attentive, and our waiter, a fellow Ecuadorian...was very professional and friendly. We ordered staple tapas and dessert, and the food was very delicious. I had no idea how huge and elegant the restaurant was until I went inside to use the bathroom before leaving. We were there just after 7 pm so it wasn't as busy as I imagine it will get later, because in Barcelona, people don't have dinner until 9 or 10 PM. We ordered fresh salmon with dill, coroquetas de jamón iberico, a cod fritter, and chicken cannelloni with foie gras and black truffle sauce. We also ordered the pan with tomate, of course to soak up the truffle sauce. The cannelloni was amazing! I mean it melted in your mouth amazing!! After our snacks... We ordered dessert. We ordered their homemade Belgian chocolate ice cream, which is hands-down, the best chocolate ice cream I've ever eaten. And we also ordered their version of a crème brûlée called crema Catalonya! Both desserts were amazing, however, I highly recommend the Belgian chocolate ice cream. Overall, the experience was amazing and I hope to pop in again before we leave. Enjoy!

Both my son and I are very picky about Lebanese food having been spoiled by the excellent Lebanese in our home town Los Angeles, so we ordered with trepidation. The very first must-try dish immediately set our minds at ease: please, do yourselves a favor and order their Fatoush salad. It's done so right, juicy tangy, bursting with flavors and the pita in the salad is made into a curly flower and gives a delicious crunch. We liked the dish of garbanzo and yogurt a bit less, as it was quite heavy and lacked flavor. My son was very pleased with shish tavouk with chicken, and I loved my halloumi dish. The service was slow (as everywhere in Barcelona) but it was efficient, and our Egyptian waiter had good recommendations for everything. He was funny and personable.
