Unfortunately, during my appointment, the client next to me had severe toenail fungus affecting multiple toes, and I was shocked the salon still performed a pedicure. The technician was handling the infected feet with bare hands and then continuing to work around other clients, which raised major concerns for me about sanitation and cross-contamination. It completely changed my comfort level and perception of the salon's cleanliness, and because of that I won't be returning. read more

I never get my nails done but when asked to be a bridesmaid for a wedding, I went to Aree nails for a regular pedicure. The nails looked fine but after removing the nail polish two and a half weeks later, I had a toe fungus that didn't go away for 6 months. I visited a pediatrist who said the cause was from lack of proper disinfection procedures at the salon and prescribed me a topical solution I had to apply every day for 3 months. I'm surprised to see Aree isn't getting a ton of praise - this was my go to mani/pedi spot for years and I still stop in whenever I'm in the area. There's nothing worse then shelling out 30 dollars or more for a pedicure that takes 10 minutes and feels like something that you could have done yourself at home...for free. At Aree the pedicures last at least a solid half an hour. A lotion and fresh aloe massage (from an actual aloe leaf) and a brown sugar scrub are all part of their pedicure routine. Lots of other spots would consider this a "spa pedicure" and charge you big time for it. However, at Aree this is all included in their standard run of the mill pedi. I don't hate it. There are not that many other options in the area, and it definitely can get packed out on a weekend morning, so I would suggest calling ahead or coming in right when they open. read more

I've been coming to Areenail for many years . Each time it's hit or miss on who you will get . Some give a excellent lengthy massage , others are quick and rush through it. I'm on a tight budget and finally made the decision to treat myself to a pedicure . I was so annoyed . The person doing my pedi was on her phone the whole time with a earpiece . The tv was loud with a soap opera playing all sorts of drama. I asked to change the channel, manager said no, sorry can't change . So between this crap on Tv and the technicians personal conversation, the experience stunk and was far from relaxing . Who has a job that you can make personal calls when with a client ? If they looked good i would have dealt with the price but by the end of the night two of her nails popped off right in the center. And of course they do not care and will not refund. I love aree! I've been coming here since I was about 10 years old with my mom and I just walked in for the first time in about 10 years and the owner greeted me with a huge hug. She remembered everything about me and asked how everything was (including the college I went to etc). The manicure is awesome, they took me immediately upon walk in on July 3rd the day before the holiday. The music is great, the place is unbelievably crowded and everyone is chatting with their neighbor - the aura is awesome. Reasonable prices also. A great business! read more

Moved to spotswood in October (8 months ago) but I was still going to Staten Island every 2-3 weeks for a fill in. I get acrylics with gel very thin and filed specifically so not just everyone can do this. I was pretty sick of going to SI for my nails so I randomly stopped into Aree when I was picking up pizza next door. It was literally packed. Every technician was working on someone with people waiting, yes annoying but that means they might be good. I made an appt for later that evening and they took me right on time. My girl Jessi listened to every direction and preference I gave her. She was meticulous in the way she filed and painted. She's now my new nail girl! Only negatives are they aren't open Sunday and they only have clear acrylic instead of light pink, nude, or other options. read more

This was hands-down the worst gel manicure I've ever had. The nail technician filed my nails all the way down below the skin/nail bed so they hurt. The polish wasn't done to the ends either. I've had one done here before and it didn't last a week, but at least there wasn't any pain. There are tons of nail salons in this area, go elsewhere! If you want a pedicure, Aree is the place to come. In my opinion, the girls usually do a great job. Each pedicure includes an amazing leg and foot massage that I guarantee will rival any massage business. There is almost always a wait, so be sure to schedule an appointment before coming in. I don't like that you can't request a specific technician to give you a pedicure, but regardless, all of the girls do an amazing job. I got one manicure at Aree. It was a regular manicure (not gel or acrylic), and one finger chipped after an hour. I went back and they fixed it for me, free of charge. However, the next morning, I woke up to six chipped nails. This is unacceptable. I know that normal nail polish does not last as long as other types of manicures, but I am always very cautious with my nails. I will continue to come here for pedicures, but not manicures. read more

Staff isn't very friendly and services are overpriced. Paid way too much for a gel manicure that started chipping off the next day (if not that night). Completely peeled off within 5 days. Usually gel is a pain to get off and ruins your nails if you peel it. These just came off on its own. And no, I do not work with my hands or do anything that would make them come off. Wondering if they used regular polish and charged me for gel. Wouldn't be surprised. Do not recommend. They also cut my skin while cutting my toe nails. And when I asked for a regular polish on my toes, they said they would charge me $5 to take off my old polish unless I got a gel pedicure. Who charges to take off old nail polish!!!!? Best pedicure! They rub your legs for like ever..just keep adding more lotion over & over. They use hot stones too. I don't love the price though $45 for a pedi & mani just seems crazy. Going to Areenail puts you at risk for infection. They do not disinfect tools for pedicure. I visited this saloon today and I watched that they just reuse instruments again and again. The girl who did pedicure for me today accidentally cut my toe and now I am afraid to get infection, because instruments were not cleaned after previous client. A friend recommended this place to me and its definitely a winner. Now, in all fairness, I've only gone there for pedicures but I must say, the massages that come along with them are AWESOME!! The only thing I don't like about this place is that they don't allow you to make an appointment with any one pedicurist in particular. The owner always says, "They're all the same." I find this to be a little ridiculous and a lot demeaning. They girls are NOT all the same. They're individuals with different, likes, dislikes, behaviors and talents. Despite some of negative reviews, I gave Aree nails a try. Why not? How could I judge unless I tried it myself. Due to short notice I needed to get my nails done for a last minute event, I was desperate! so I made an appointment for the same day. I got there on time, and had to wait about 10 mins. Who doesn't wait?, even if you have an appointment! it's like that anywhere! Big whoop it was only 10 mins. I got a gel mani and pedi and it looked great! Even got compliments at the event about my nails!(which reassured me that I made the right choice) This place is a bit different from what I'm used to, my usual nail salon does a basic scrub for pedis like anyone else, but Aree's adds a nice touch (much needed especially when the weather is hot and the legs are out!) they do a aloe leaf massage(with real aloe!) Now, onto the follow-up, the gel lasted me almost two weeks, which is normal for me because my fingernails grow fast, a regular mani will only last me 3 days before my beds start growing out. Oddly, my toenails are the opposite and grow slow so they lasted me a little over 3 weeks! I'm usually in the neighborhood about once or twice a month and will coming back. read more

I have to say, if you get someone good which is 9/10 people there, you will get one of the best pedicures. The massage is really the best part, which is what most of us get pedicures for. I must say however, the girl talk so much to each other that they end up doing a half ass job sometimes. Even though the pedicures are amazing here, I will never come back. The owner seriously needs a lesson in customer service. I called this salon around 6:25pm to see if they'd take me as a walk in for a pedicure. The owner told me they closed at 7:30pm and asked if I could come immediately. I showed up at 6:40 and was taken right away. As I'm sitting in the pedicure chair the owner made sure to come up to me and say "6:30 would have been better," she also interrupted my service a second time demanding that I "pay now." This annoyed me as I had called prior to the appointment and asked if they would take me. To make things worse, before my pedicure was finished the nail techs started cleaning the salon loudly with vacuums and removed the chairs to the dryer so I couldn't even dry my polish for 5 minutes before leaving. I understand wanting to close on time, but I left the salon at 7:15 with wet nails on a rainy/cold day 15 minutes before they were even supposed to close.
