I brought a group of seven people to do an hour of archery with Cyril and Maria. Booking online was very easy, and I was walked through the process of reserving our spots online by Cyril. It's a very affordable activity for a group. They provide everything that you need for the session, so you don't need to bring anything extra and the equipment rental is built into the price of the lesson. Cyril and Maria are both so knowledgeable about archery and extremely patient with their guests. They cover all of the safety policies first before you start and Cyril makes the entire lesson very funny and enjoyable from start to finish! They were both very encouraging and motivating, which led to everyone in my group doing really well at archery. Even those of us who had never done it before did very well and we all had a great time! Thank you!

Cyril and Maria are amazing instructors and people. They are really good with motivating any student who might be shy or hesitant with trying something new. At the same time they are very patient and willing to work at their student's pace. I couldn't have hoped for better teachers and mentors for my younger sister. They have instilled a life long love of archery in her and she will continue to pursue it in college and beyond. Thank you Cyril and Maria!

Went with a group of friends and had a great time! Cyril and Maria were great instructors. I was worried how much time we'd actually be shooting, but it was most of the time which was great. Learned a lot and can't wait to go again!

We had a great experience! All of us beginners [including our 8 year old] and the hour went by so fast. The area was very well shaded by trees which made it really pleasant. Thank you!!

Woodley Park's archery range isn't just another community spot -- it's hallowed ground for archery in Southern California. Established in the mid-20th century, it became one of the premier training grounds for competitive archers, including those who've gone on to represent the U.S. in the Olympics and world tournaments. The range was home to early pioneers in modern archery and has long been supported by the Woodley Park Archers Club, a volunteer-run nonprofit dedicated to keeping the sport alive and accessible for everyone. Whether you're brand new or a practiced archer fine-tuning your form, this place is magic. It's free to use, open to the public, and beautifully maintained -- a rare mix of L.A. chill and Olympic discipline. The sound of arrows hitting targets is weirdly meditative, and for a moment, you forget you're in Van Nuys and not a medieval forest. If you're serious about learning, do yourself a favor and take a class here. The instructors are incredibly patient, passionate, and knowledgeable -- many are lifelong archers who learned the craft right here. And for equipment, look up Robertson Archery before you go -- one of the best local resources for tuning, gear, and guidance. Every time I'm in town, I carve out space for a lesson here. They don't just hand you a bow and send you to the range. They break it down--stance, breath, grip--without condescension or ego. From absolute zero, they had me loosing arrows with something resembling grace, and over time, they've built me into a halfway decent archer. That's not just instruction; that's craft. The gear side is no less impressive. Advice here isn't about upselling--it's about finding the bow, the arrows, the finger tabs that actually suit you. The staff talks from the heart, from decades of pulling strings and hitting targets, not from a sales script. And the vibe? Generous, patient, and real. You're not judged for being a beginner. You're not rushed. You're simply folded into the ritual of a practice older than most religions. For someone like me, who arrives a tourist and leaves a little bit better than before--that's gold. Robertson Archery isn't just a shop or a range. It's a reminder that in a city built on surface, you can still find depth. Come here. String a bow. Let the arrow fly.

My son has improved dramatically, not only by gaining more technical skills, but also by gaining confidence in his abilities. South Bay Archery was also extremely generous and accommodating over the holidays, as our family was searching for a fun activity to do on New Year's eve with some friends. We booked a private party with Coach Paul and Coach Lani and everyone had a wonderful time! They made sure all 9 participants learned proper safety protocols, and taught our group how to shoot since some of us had no prior experience. They kept a good pace, explaining the challenges of shooting from further distances, and made things extra fun by creating a competition at the end, with the winner getting a prize! After that we relaxed and ate in the party room upstairs, which overlooked the shooting area. We all had a GREAT TIME! I encourage anyone looking for a fun group activity to check out South Bay Archery Lessons! Our instructor was very informative and helpful throughout the class. We also benefit from having a trainee in class where he was shadowing the main instructor. He was helpful with assisting and correcting our form. I was in a group with 9 other people. Each group was led by an instructor and taken to their own shooting area to learn the etiquette, rules, and how to shoot properly. He provides demonstrations and tips for correct shooting. After each demonstration, instructor invited the group to the line to practice shooting. Instructions were very clear and helpful. At the end, they provide balloons as targets to shoot. It felt like many directions, but as you go more rounds, your body and brain start to retain the information. I cheered when I finally hit the target! My only goal for the day, besides getting out of bed, was to hit the target! Maybe I didn't hit dead center, but an arrow (and even more arrows) made it onto the target! Yay! We were then directed to "go talk to a guy in the blue shirt" but as we are walking to him another man stops us and tells us to go into the trailer. Okay fine- then as we're walking to the trailer we are stopped yet again and told to go talk to a man in a brown shirt now! Fine. As we're walking the other guy is yelling "go to the trailer" omfg so we turn back towards the trailer and then again "No the guy in the brown shirt" ...... at this point i'm wondering what happened to the guy in the blue shirt that i allegedly needed to talk to. Anyways, I digress. So we get to the guy in the brown shirt to sign our waivers and he says that it's actually too late to sign the waivers because it was 10:25 and they stopped doing the waivers at 10:15 First of all, why couldn't anyone tell us that EARLIER and second of all, the website has no indication of this rule. Also the signage is terrible and if the path that we were sent down is so dangerous, why were we even able to go there?? There should be signs and closed gates not an inviting path that people are sent to go down and then get yelled at. Also I don't understand how everyone working there is so out of the loop with each other.
