My son started lessons when he was 5 and has taken Andrew's classes for at least a year now. Andrew is very knowledgeable, helpful, friendly, patient and works very well with kids. I like how he offers private lessons and supplies the bow & arrows.

Andrew was a great teacher. I got a lot out of my first session with him. I improved my form tremendously and he was patient answering all of my questions. I am excited to go back for another session soon! I really enjoyed my time and found passion for the sport. Also, I appreciated his sense of humor. I recommend going to him if you're just starting out or even if you need a refresher. Thank you for your help!

Good afternoon! I provide recurve bows for lessons, but yes, if you want to learn on a compound, you would need to provide your own compound. My price for a single archer is currently $60 for a 1hr lesson.

Woodley Park's archery range isn't just another community spot -- it's hallowed ground for archery in Southern California. Established in the mid-20th century, it became one of the premier training grounds for competitive archers, including those who've gone on to represent the U.S. in the Olympics and world tournaments. The range was home to early pioneers in modern archery and has long been supported by the Woodley Park Archers Club, a volunteer-run nonprofit dedicated to keeping the sport alive and accessible for everyone. Whether you're brand new or a practiced archer fine-tuning your form, this place is magic. It's free to use, open to the public, and beautifully maintained -- a rare mix of L.A. chill and Olympic discipline. The sound of arrows hitting targets is weirdly meditative, and for a moment, you forget you're in Van Nuys and not a medieval forest. If you're serious about learning, do yourself a favor and take a class here. The instructors are incredibly patient, passionate, and knowledgeable -- many are lifelong archers who learned the craft right here. And for equipment, look up Robertson Archery before you go -- one of the best local resources for tuning, gear, and guidance. Woodley Park Archers: where Olympic legends and suburban dads share the same bullseye. A place where you can legally shoot things in L.A. -- and it's encouraged. The Woodley Park Archery Range is an L.A. gem -- steeped in history, beautifully run, and accessible to everyone. Whether you're chasing Olympic dreams, trying something new, or just need to blow off some steam without breaking the law, this is your spot. And if you're getting serious? South Bay Archery was also extremely generous and accommodating over the holidays, as our family was searching for a fun activity to do on New Year's eve with some friends. We booked a private party with Coach Paul and Coach Lani and everyone had a wonderful time! They made sure all 9 participants learned proper safety protocols, and taught our group how to shoot since some of us had no prior experience. They kept a good pace, explaining the challenges of shooting from further distances, and made things extra fun by creating a competition at the end, with the winner getting a prize! After that we relaxed and ate in the party room upstairs, which overlooked the shooting area. We all had a GREAT TIME! I encourage anyone looking for a fun group activity to check out South Bay Archery Lessons! I was fortunate enough to book a class, since they still had openings. In order to book, you are required to pay $5 per person, and each person shooting needs a reservation. For the first time archer classes you need to arrive 15 minutes to sign in, get placed with a group/instructor, get the gear (they measure your arms, for the bow and arrows) the first-time archer classes are 8 AM and the returning is at 10 AM. Our instructor was very informative and helpful throughout the class. We also benefit from having a trainee in class where he was shadowing the main instructor. He was helpful with assisting and correcting our form. I was in a group with 9 other people. Each group was led by an instructor and taken to their own shooting area to learn the etiquette, rules, and how to shoot properly. He provides demonstrations and tips for correct shooting. After each demonstration, instructor invited the group to the line to practice shooting. Instructions were very clear and helpful. At the end, they provide balloons as targets to shoot. If you were able to pop the balloon, you get a cool pin. After the class was done, the instructor gave us a card to show proof that we've taken the first class, and we can sign up for the returning class if we decide to. Parking is limited. The staff goes over your eye orientation (whether right or left-eye dominant), provides you with an archery arm guard, and goes over the safety rules. They had multiple instructors who helped you orient yourself and your bow and arrows to shoot at the target. It felt like many directions, but as you go more rounds, your body and brain start to retain the information. I cheered when I finally hit the target! My only goal for the day, besides getting out of bed, was to hit the target! Maybe I didn't hit dead center, but an arrow (and even more arrows) made it onto the target! Yay! There is no good cell phone reception at the range where the public course is held, so if you're meeting anyone, try to make sure you decide where to meet beforehand. We were then directed to "go talk to a guy in the blue shirt" but as we are walking to him another man stops us and tells us to go into the trailer. Okay fine- then as we're walking to the trailer we are stopped yet again and told to go talk to a man in a brown shirt now! Fine. As we're walking the other guy is yelling "go to the trailer" omfg so we turn back towards the trailer and then again "No the guy in the brown shirt" ...... at this point i'm wondering what happened to the guy in the blue shirt that i allegedly needed to talk to. Anyways, I digress. So we get to the guy in the brown shirt to sign our waivers and he says that it's actually too late to sign the waivers because it was 10:25 and they stopped doing the waivers at 10:15 First of all, why couldn't anyone tell us that EARLIER and second of all, the website has no indication of this rule. Also the signage is terrible and if the path that we were sent down is so dangerous, why were we even able to go there?? There should be signs and closed gates not an inviting path that people are sent to go down and then get yelled at. Also I don't understand how everyone working there is so out of the loop with each other.
