Katelin is my first teacher and I got lucky to find her. I am terrified of riding but I love the beauty and sensitivity horses offer so I made it a goal to overcome my fear this year. I was looking for an instructor who is also sensitive to training me, a person who has never ever handled a horse or any equipment that has to do with horses. I've had many instructors in the past for other things I've tried, who are angry and use condescension in their instruction and this memory has held me back for a while in trying anything new. I took a leap of faith with Katelin and I am so happy I did. I hope this place will become a home where I can learn everything I possibly can - I've already fallen in love with my horse, Gene. :) Katelin is positive, encouraging, funny, and has an 'other worldly' vibe, a sixth sense, during the sessions. I'm not an expert rider, really a somewhat experienced beginner. But over the years I've seen a fair amount of riding instructors, mostly as an observer and sometimes as a student. None of them are as good as Katelin Jordan. There is a question that I sometimes ask riders and instructors, "How much weight should I put on my stirrups?" I'd get a quizzical look or be told very little or 60 percent or more on the outside one than the inside one (or vice versa) or real riders don't use stirrups or don't worry about it or... well you get the picture. I recently asked Katelin (not to test her but because I was watching one of her students posting the trot) and she essentially said it's complicated and subtle. Holy! a REAL answer. She briefly explained that it depends upon the disicpline of riding, what you are trying to do and what situation you are. I told her of all of the previous answers I'd been given and we both laughed and commented that those answers were all both right and wrong. Katelin is not dogmatic about discipline because she does them all. She rides Western, English, jumps, "hunts," does dressage and rides bareback. She communicates well and is always encouraging but not at the expense of honesty. If you're not getting it she'll use repetition, humor, etc never anger but she wants to make you happy AND better. I've watched her students improve markedly. Horseback riding isn't for everyone, so some come and go. But Katelin doesn't lock you into a group of lessons, never hard sells you or sells you at all. I'm sure she'd make a lot more money if she did, but that's not her. Her rates are reasonable. And you always feel better after your lesson than you did when you first got on the horse. read more

I grew up owning horses and riding horses, but took a ten year hiatus while going to school and building a career. A decade later, I decided it was time to get back in the saddle. I found Kaitlin after trying out two other trainers in the area that just weren't the right fit for me. I came to her with lofty goals, not only to build up my confidence again, but also learn a new discipline. She was my trainer for two years, off and on as my schedule allowed, and she'd still be it, had I not had to move! She was so accepting of my goals as a re-rider, she built my confidence up and most of all she provided valuable insight into each lesson. Bareback, English, western, trails, you name it, we did it! She's a true horse gal and I loved my time riding with her. Her attentiveness to what each horse needed, likes/dislikes and quirks made me a better, more adaptive rider, in any circumstance. Katelin is the best! I started lessons with her last year as a total beginner and now I feel like a rider with a good amount of skills and confidence. Patience is Katelin's greatest quality. I am someone that does well with a lot of encouragement and that's exactly what Katelin gives. She constantly tells you that you're doing well and corrects you when you need to improve on something. I've taking lessons from Katelin for well over a year. Let me start out by saying I'm a nervous rider. I love and admire horses but it was a big step for me to actually try and ride one. Get on 1000 lb animal?! 4+ feet off the ground?! And then move faster than a walk?! But Katelin immediately put me at ease. She is very calm and patient and has a seemingly bottomless knowledge of all things equine. She explains things clearly and challenges you when you are ready. She also takes the time to explain the horse's point of view and so that you can better communicate with your horse and work together as a team. I rode for a few years as a small child, but considered myself as starting over since it's been like 20 years. I loved my first lesson here after trying another place where they put me on an already tacked horse, let me ride for 20 minutes, then took the horse back. Katelin started from the very first step of taking the horse out of the stall. I guess some people might just want to hop on an off a horse and not really learn that much about what goes into it, but this was really crucial for me as I want to start spending more time around horses in a veterinary setting. Started up riding lessons again and Katelin was an amazing trainer! She showed us step by step how to groom, saddle up, and ride. Very knowledgeable of the horses, riding, and all things equestrian. Love that there is variety in either a trail or in the riding arena and you can learn either English, western, or bareback depending on what style of riding you like.
