What stood out most to me was how much Johnny truly cared about both the horses and their owners. He values open communication and encourages boarders to come to him with concerns so he can help work through situations and find solutions. When my horse and I were having trouble adjusting to pasture boarding, he was understanding and worked with us to find a setup that better suited my horse's needs. That level of care and flexibility meant a lot to me. It's rare to find a place where you feel genuinely supported, and I'm very grateful for the care and consideration we received here. My daughter started riding with Johnny when she was just 4 years old. She rode with him for six wonderful years, took a break, and recently returned now at the age of 19. Coming back felt like coming home. During those six years, she learned tremendously and won numerous Horsemanship and Western Pleasure awards. Everything she knows today about horses was taught from the very beginning--starting with proper horse care, respect, and responsibility, all the way through riding skills and confidence in the saddle. Johnny and everyone at the ranch are incredibly kind, welcoming, and supportive. They truly treat you like family, and from day one you feel at peace, surrounded by horses and amazing people. Shadow Hills Riding Club and Shadow heels equestrian center has been a key in our journey to success ! He This place is exceptionally to start with. I have been coming here with my daughter for 4 1/2 years. Let me start by mentioning that this place is exceptionally clean, beautiful and horses are well trained for therapeutic riding and for regular riding. Horses are well taken care of is an understatement. Johnny helped my child from being nonverbal to talking in sentences with therapeutic riding. My daughter started writing when she was nonverbal had a few words here there very quickly through therapeutic riding my daughter started to open up and understand letters, which are placed all around the arena. Johnny's extensive experience in this field gave me hope from the day one. Johnny uses strategies and techniques to help the child increase brain activity, speech and balance. After four years, my daughter is thriving. She is talking in sentences ,has a calm demeanor ,loves horses ,can ride professionally on her own and has so much fun seeing Johnny every time. I am beyond thankful to Shadow Equestrian Center and Johnny for saving my daughter early on in her challenge with Speech. Early intervention is a key and Shadow Hills Equestrian Center is a key to success early on in any and all cases of challenge. Absolutely Love SHEC! My horse was here for 3+ years and we enjoyed every second of it! It's a beautiful facility

I booked a private lesson with Johnny for my 3 yr old son on his birthday. My son has been obsessed with horses for a year now. The therapy horses are great with little kids, and my son had many opportunities to do things by himself, which surprised me given the difference in size between the horse and my son. My son was beaming with happiness and he can't wait to go back for more lessons. I also recently had my 3 yr old son's birthday at the equestrian center. Before I get into how great the center is, I want to say it was a profound struggle to find a place that would do a party for kids under 7 yrs old. Luckily through many calls to private stables around the LA Equestrian Center, I was referred to Shadow Hills Equestrian. When I called and spoke to Tina, I felt very fortunate to have found them... not only because they could accommodate my age requirements, but also because they have a therapeutic program that helps disabled children. It was a win win. Johnny and Tina were very helpful in accommodating my specific party requests. On the day of I was shocked to have volunteers coming up to me left and right to help me unload my car, decorate, and stage things for my party. All of the party activities (horse riding, petting zoo, horse painting!) went smoothly and the volunteers did a great job working with my 2 - 6 yr old age group of kids. At the end, I was told by many parents it was a great party, and I think that has a lot to do with the owners and volunteers at this center. They are extremely nice and obviously love what they do. It was a great experience all around. I'm secretly wishing my son's obsession with horses continues so I can have several more parties there! read more

This place is something else. Johnny is an amazing person, so thoughtful and so much knowledge on horses. Our 8 yr old has lessons here weekly for the last 2 years and since she has become more confident and stronger. She thinks the world of Johnny and learns so much every time she comes. I was referred to SHRC as a volunteer opportunity by a friend almost 2 months ago, and have been assisting with the programs 3x a week. I cannot say enough about the organization; it's mission, it's staff and it's amazing volunteers. All of the animals are all well taken care of, the facility is well attended to and the attention that is given to the clients and their families is that of genuine compassion. With little previous knowledge of equines or equine therapy, I have found my experience not only to be extremely informative but have found myself a firm believer in the process. I cannot speak highly enough about SHRC and its owners and staff. Johhny and Susan are two of the nicest kindest and caring people I have ever encountered in life. This ranch could be one of those hoity toity places filled with arrogant, pompous and pretentiousness but it is the absolute complete antithesis of that. Not only is this an extremely welcoming ranch it gives back on a continuous basis- something we as a community need more of- not to mention as a nation! They offer equine assisted therapies for handicapped children and adults, therapeutic riding, a saddles and serenity program using horses to assist in the 12 step program, saddles for soldiers- helping veterans with emotional and physical disabilities - and they always- ALWAYS have a smile on their faces. Johhny and Susan and the rest of the staff are so knowledgeable and helpful its a refreshing change of pace from the norm. My daughter does therapeutic riding at Shadow Hills Riding Club. We couldn't ask for a better teacher or facility. My daughter, who is normally afraid of large animals and strangers, immediately took to Johnny and any horse he introduces her to. He has an amazing way with children and offers a safe place for them to ride. In addition to the therapeutic part of the riding, the children also learn discipline and confidence. The facilities are so clean and the animals look very happy and cared for, which is very important to us.
