This is a place I call home and have for many years. It's a place where Veterans, active military and their families and friends come together for great food, cheap drinks, parties, bbq, holidays, events and celebrations of all kind. It is open daily from 9-10 and stays open later on the weekends. There is a calendar of events every month and it doesn't get boring. It's a great place for younger and older folks alike. There is something for just about everyday of the week. Whether it's Monday night Thursday night football w inexpensive food & drinks, or regular Wednesday with homemade lunches that are so delicious , Taco Tuesdays (on hold during football season), or the awesome Sunday breakfasts, like I said there is something for just about everyday and all very reasonably priced with friendly and warm environment. It can also be rented out for outdoor or indoor events. It is a little hard to find the first time as it sits back on a long driveway, but if you look up you can't miss the American flag. So join us and have some fun and support the Veteran's. let them know your a visitor and soon you will want to be part of this family. If you are not in this area check out your local VFW post. How many hundreds of times have I driven by the Tarzana Community & Cultural Center? It has been…read moremany years, way back to the time there was a pottery store on the property. I finally had a chance to visit for a Tarzana Music Night last week. What a fun event! Because the weather was being forecasted to be cool with the potential of rain, the event was held indoors. Things were comfortable, but we were in close quarters with the other attendees. The sound was great and the performances were a lot of fun. I was primarily there to see a good friend perform, but I also had the chance to see some other talented musicians. I think each one was a singer songwriter, and I enjoyed each performance. Each one of the people that was working at the venue, which I imagine may have been on a volunteer basis, was friendly and a lot of fun. Normally the music nights are held outdoors, and I can imagine that most of the year, it is a lot of fun being in the open air.

Parking structure a couple blocks away, pay at the machine before we made our way to the hall. Pre-reception was held in the lobby area with a basic bar, the usual snacks and drinks available for purchase: wine and beer, hot cocoa, coffee. During the first half the lighting seemed a little too bright and it almost washed out the players, but they lowered the level during the second half. The seats were almost too comfortable. I was super tired and had a hard time not falling asleep, but that's not the venue's fault, that was my fault. The guys at the ticket booth were really fast and efficient. I liked how everyone was very formal and proper. It was an orchestra performance, so all of the players were wearing tuxes and black dresses. Even all the ushers and people collecting tickets were dressed very clean. My favorite person there was the double bass player that had an afro. He looked so clean with a fro and a tux. During the intermission, it's really nice to be able to walk just outside the theater and grab a snack at the Mercantile Exchange. There is no food allowed in the theater by the way, but that's expected. This is a great theater. I'm sure it isn't as jaw-dropping as the Valley Performing Arts Theater, but there was absolutely nothing wrong with the Plaza del Sol Theater. I am a trumpet player at CSUN and I'm looking forward to playing here next month! I will definitely come here again to hear other ensembles perform.

The Granada Hills street fair is a yearly event that takes place on a Saturday in the middle of…read moreOctober (for some reason it's always on the hottest Saturday in October every year). The fair is on Chatsworth street and goes from Zelza ave to Encino ave (about half a mile each direction) Around Zelza they have inflatable slides, and bounce houses for the kids, near White Oak Ave are the local business and food vendors. This year in 2025 they had an extra row of food vendors that are usually here for the weekly Friday night Granada hills farmers market/food truck. And over by the Encino ave. side is where the car show is. Between the food vendors & car show is the Oktoberfest beer garden. Tickets for the beer garden were going for $30 and you get 10 tickets to try a 3 or 4oz sample from the local craft brewers in attendance. The fair goes on from about 10am-5pm. Parking in the surrounding neighborhood isn't took bad, but you might have to walk a block or two. Or you can park in the Ralph's or TJ Max parking lots on Zelza and Chatsworth if you don't feels like searching for residential parking.

Host Audi treated us (250 attendees perhaps) to hors dourves, open bar, A3 sedans, and a truly special performance by the recording artist Janelle Monáe. Very nice evening! The laser lights, sound and staff were all on point. It was an especially display of many technologies. Kulak's Woodshed is a live music event venue, video recording and private music recording space. It's limited capacity, intimate and thoughtful. Brought to life by Paul Kulak, a local indie thoughtful big in stature and heart man whose love of music, sound and visuals brought this space in to existence at the tail end of the 1990s. A space for musicians to thrive, from grammy winners to new to expressing their gifts. I've passed the Woodshed many times in my 15 years in the SFV, but only recently started to enjoy it including their live webcasts and concerts via Facebook Live. Offering greatness on Laurel Canyon between Magnolia Blvd/Weddington Street, mere steps aways from my favorite local art supply store Carter Sexton. It's in a of creativity, expression and artistic joy. Check out their Mondays, musicians can sign up by 7pm for Singer/Songwriter Open Mic. Mostly supported by Paul's hard work, incredible volunteers and audience donations. It's an all welcoming, all ages, all genres and styles of music space. Beverages, snacks and conversations are all self served. Pet friendly environment, but good to be mindful others especially with allergies. Street parking is your friend, though if you don't mind a stroll parking a little further can be easier especially at night, rideshare or even metro as it's less than half a mile from the nearest station. They do not allow any alcohol, recreational or hard substances inside. It's indie, it's music, it's Kulak's Woodshed.
