    Westley enjoying the large roundpen

I knew from the moment I set foot inside Courtship Ranch that this is where I needed to stay! I've boarded at a few different barns in the same area and nothing even compares! The covered arena is gorgeous! Not only can you ride in bad weather but you don't need to worry about waiting a week for the footing to dry out! The facilities are great with multiple turn out pastures below the ranch and two large round pens. The best part is that the owners are absolutely dedicated and are always making improvements to the ranch to make everyone's life a little better. When I was given my first tour, over two years ago now, the owner told me that she makes these improvements because she rides herself and wants to enjoy them. That's always great to have one of the most active riders at the barn be the owner but, beyond that, they go out of their way to make life better for EVERYONE! The barn is also in a prime location for trails with access to all the Hansen Dam has to offer as well as a really great ride just outside the gates into the mountains! - Clean and safe! - Access to awesome trainers and shows - All disciplines welcome (jumpers, dressage, western, even just casual trail riding) - REAL hay fed - Gorgeous facilities - Fabulous trails

Years ago I boarded my horse at this facility. Today, it's unrecognizable. The improvements are amazing!!! Now every day I look forward to coming to visit with my horse. Courtship Ranch and its environment gives you all the "tools" to enjoy your horse. They have a covered 200'x90' arena and 2 spacious rings. It's easy to find peace on the trails starting right at the gate. The trainers are fantastic. See the raving reviews for Northstar Farms http://www.yelp.com/biz/north-star-farms-los-angeles The trainers and their students have a lot of fun at all the local shows in the area and I've made real friends at one of their many parties around the fire pit. I hope that any reader will come up and see how they too can make the most out of their time with their horse in this peaceful and affordable setting in Lake View Terrace. Btw, I live in Pasadena and it only takes me about 20 mins. to get there. I hear about the same from boarders who come from the Valley or Burbank.

Fire pit at the holiday party!

The horse I rode jumped from my leg brushing his belly, so I had to float my legs off his body the entire time. I'm not sure he was well enough to ride that day if his belly was that tender. The other horses did not get along and fought while on the trail. This led to one horse spooking/attacking another and caused my friend to fall. She had difficulty walking, but was asked to get back on the horse despite laying on the floor in pain. After she couldn't get on, we thought the guide would call for help. But we found out later that the guide simply called her coworker and told them she'd be late for her next ride. Are you kidding me? Someone gets hurt and your first thought is your next paycheck? Our friend had to continue on foot since the guide told us we could not get off to help her. I don't think she would've made it all the way. We were lucky to run into fire authorities that gave her a ride. The authorities clarified they were NOT contacted by the guide and they were there for a separate event. We took our friend to the ER ourselves to get a spinal scan which thankfully turned out with bruising only. Afterwards, we were not offered a refund. We get it, horses have bad days and are unpredictable. But there is no excuse for having a guide that is so severely untrained and unempathetic. In a real emergency, you do not want to be caught in the middle of a nowhere with no signal and a "guide" that doesn't even know how to call for help or care about you. She just sounded like she wanted it over with. Really horrified and disappointed by the negligence here.

There is a current deal on a 45 min riding course for $25 either on their Yelp page or Living Social. In theory, 45 minutes is not much time; however, that wasn't the case on the Sunday I went. I really enjoyed the experience! Natalie was my instructor. She is such a sweetheart! She was very friendly and very knowledgeable. She's been only riding for a year or so but she could have fooled me. She instructed very well and was great with Lucky (the horse I rode). My original appointment was the Sunday prior; however, I had to cancel because of a sickness. Natalie was very understanding and I was able to book my actual appointment with ease. The school is located on a large property that also provides space for other riding schools. There were 4 - 5 arenas that I was able to remember, there possibly could be more. Its a great community and the property is well maintained and clean, BUT do watch out for the occasional horse poop that are in large piles. The drive was not difficult at all. The freeways were empty since my appointment was at 12am. Their parking lot is very large with plenty of parking space! Parking is free! Tip: - The HDRS Office is on the far right just from the gate! DO NOT drive all the way to the back of the lot. - Wear boots with a heel. - DO NOT wear shorts! Overall, I had an amazing experience. I definitely want to ride again, maybe another course and/or just to ride on a scenic trail!

We can't believe the improvement in attitude, posture, priority and confidence. It feels good to go back after so many years and find the same integrity, love and care, plus the greatest groom in Southern CA. The facility is wonderful and more important than anything, everyone is great, kids, parents, trainers and neighbors. My granddaughter misses Summer Camp and is excited for next year. She learned how to completely groom her horse, even clean up her tack. She met a new friend and they got to ride together today. All I can say is thank you Edmonton Farms, Sheri, Duncan, little Cleo and Rachel, Jorge and the best pony ever, Penny. They have wonderful horses to ride, all well trained with great ground manners. Additionally, the horses that he has for her to ride are amazing! They are expensive, premium horses. Some trainers have lesson horses that are ancient or of low quality. We highly recommend Edmonton Farms. They specialize in teaching to the level of their students whether you are a beginner or an advanced rider, they will form a program for you.

While most trainers believed that the only resolution to the problem was drugging, Cathy is more about fixing the problems with schooling and proper training! Although I have gotten rid of her, I am still a bit jaded from the experience, but Cathy is so patient that she teaches me techniques I can use for the next time I encounter those vices, and was not mad when I stated that I just wanted to start from the ground up again on my horsemanship!
