I found Archery Bow Range after searching for archery lessons in Chicago. I showed up on the wrong date, but the staff were still glad to help me learn how to shoot. The range has a very low-key vibe. I was shooting within five minutes of my lesson. It was really awesome to learn a new skill that I might actually be good at! Every time my arrow strayed far from the bullseye it was because I forgot to include every tip given to me. And cost is so low that you can't not give it a try. So, head on over to Humboldt Park and channel your inner Katniss or Legolas. read more

I had so much fuuuuun!!!!!!!!! Archery is harder than it looks and I guess I will never survive hunger games. Hehe :) Here's why this place gets 5 stars: 1. Free parking!! ( although I guess it gets pretty crowded because by the time we were done and out people were waiting for Parking spaces) 2. Friendly friendly staff! They were so patient and funny and eager to answer any questions. They greet u by the door with a welcoming "hello!". 3. Affordable. $27/ person if 5 or more people in a group and $35/ person if 4 or less people. (Not sure if these prices are higher for a party because some of the other reviews say different.) 4. Have fun!! That's one of their biggest rules! 5. We got to keep out bullseye sheet thingy! -like others have said its in a warehouse-type building and u have to ring bell to get in. It's located right next to a puppy food store. (I don't have a pet but I suggest checking it out after archery because some of the products are so funny and cute) -when u walk in they'll instruct u to sign in and sign a waiver. Coat hanger available upon walking in -they take only cash or check so have these ready! - they don't have a phone. ALL contact is via email or walk-in so make sure to book appointments in advance Have fun!! My party and I sure did! Far exceeded our expectations! Can't wait to go back! read more

I use to study Kyudo a few years ago when I live in Osaka so was looking for a place I can practice my Archery and happen to found this place. It's my first time being here definitely won't be my last not only does the owner friendly and helpful but is willing to take the time to teach people who are not experienced and Archery. When I have arrived I was able to take a few practice shots and then get my feeling adjusting is plenty of space and great for beginners and advance. I usually don't give 5 stars but the fact that I was given great service & the owner was very knowledgeable I can't complain I even pay Advance. Make sure you bring cash payment is usually taken by cash only. read more

When people talk about "hidden gems" Archery Bow Range Chicago is exactly the kind of place they're talking about. The location is obscure, the people are pleasant, it's a great bang for your buck and the overall experience is wonderful. I can't think of much more that a "hidden gem" could want on it's business card. This is a great place to learn about archery. The staff, volunteers and other archery enthusiasts are easy going, knowledgeable and eager to teach. They have two ranges with one devoted to teaching novice archers so you don't have to feel self conscious while you fumble around trying to hit the target standing next to Katniss or Legolas doing rapid fire trick shots at 100 paces. The main range is at least 20 yards and just watching the accomplished archers hit center time and time again from that distance is truly amazing. Range time is $10 an hour if you have your own equipment. If you need to rent their bows (compound or recurve) it's only another $5. After the first hour you'll be amazed at how well you're doing. They have beginner clinics or will give you pointers as you fumble through the first few shots. It's a great hobby and lot of fun. The hours are limited and the main range is often devoted to a specific level of shooting or league so it's a good idea to check the schedule posted on their website before a visit. Although since I often don't take my own advice, they always do their best to accommodate me when I roll in at the wrong time. That's just the type of cool people they are. They really go out of their way to make sure everyone has a good experience. I just can't say enough good things about them. I'm very happy I found them. read more

Got a chance to experience shooting a bow and arrow here due to a friend deciding to have her birthday here. Its shares a building with other businesses on 1757 N Kimball....you will run into it after passing a viaduct going south on Kimball on the east side of the street. Once you come in you see the targets and all the bows. If there are people shooting there is a small wait area near the cash register (they take cash only..FYI). I think the charge is $15 an hour. When your turn comes, the instructors (really cool guys) are very thorough in making sure you understand bow and arrow safety and the process of using the materials. We had a competitive group of 12 and the instructors were definitely clear on everything and none of us got hurt. We all had a great time and I know I will be returning to brush up on my skills read more

I've never touched a bow and arrow in my life until this past weekend. I brought the boy as part of date night. He was pleasantly surprised and very excited when it came time to start shooting. Although there was a private event in the other room, there were others practicing in the other/larger room. The safety lesson was quick and we went straight into it. We both had a lot of fun. I was scared of breaking the string on the bow at first, but it is more resilient than you think! We had to switch with another group of people since there are only 6? targets in the smaller room. But it went by smoothly and quickly. I would highly recommend this place if you're looking for something different to do on a date or if you want to channel your inner Katniss Everdeen. The room is simple, basic and even "shabby" if you really want to be negative. I prefer to think of it as utilitarian and focused on the mission, which is to hone your archery skills. $15 an hour including gear rental. $5 for safety lesson. $20 total for 1 hour of fun for newbies. Just remember to ring the buzzer from the parking lot! read more

Let's start this year of reviews off right with a 5 star one! Came for part 1 of Karen K's big birthday blowout and had a lot of fun, even though I was pretty horrendous at the actual archery. So there is a parking lot right next to the building, just be sure to avoid the parking that is reserved for the puppy store next door. Ring the doorbell to get buzzed in and down the corridor-like area is another door to get into the archery area. I think we were booked as a private party, as our little group had the room and the instructor to ourselves which made things a little more comfortable. I get to be horrendously bad at archery in front of my friends instead of the whole world. You sign a waiver, go over the basic rules and how-to's and the next thing you know you are the next Katniss Everdeen. Or not... as in my case. Regardless of skill or lack thereof, there is a lot of fun to be had here. The staff is super laid back, friendly, and helpful. I highly recommend taking a trip and trying your hand at archery! read more

I actually really enjoyed my first experience at Archery Bow Range Chicago. When my sister's boyfriend told me he was looking for a fun venue to host an event to promote awareness for MS, this establishment was one of the first places that came to mind. They (my sister, her bf, and another friend) decided to go to ensure it would be suitable for the event and I assumed that they would have a fun time. When they got back they all seemed pretty agitated. Archery Bow Range Chicago offers different price points depending on customers experience. My sister, who has experience shooting arrows, opted for the cheaper option that doesn't include lessons and my friend followed suit assuming he would catch on easily. The man who was instructing their session realized my friend was inexperienced and accused them of cheating the system and demanded that they pay the full price before storming off in anger. Another instructor took over and and she was much less rude. Until she said "Just so you guys know, (Male Employee's Name) is really pissed with you." How she thought that was an appropriate thing to say to paying customers? I'll never know. Maybe the other instructors at this establishment are more keen on how people should be treated, but that hardly matters. If you value how you and your loved ones are treated, I suggest you go somewhere else. Recommending this establishment was a mistake I have no intention of making again. read more

Awesome experience! I was in the mood to do somethin on the more active side. Somethin I've never done before. Somethin that could potentially benefit me, should a zombie apocalypse ever happen. For $20, this was epic! Yes, it's kinda difficult to find. The parking lot is free, but small. It is actually a little bit cold inside (it is a warehouse) and you have to navigate to find your way to the range once you step in... But this is a super friendly, family safe, good vibes place! definitely good for a date! No one here seemed sketchy at all, workers or shooters otherwise. Eva was our instructor, and she was fantastic! She so made the day. She was patient, enthusiastic, and knowledgable. We had to wait a little to get our round of shooting started, so she hooked us up with more arrows to make the most of our shooting time. We couldn't stop raving about it the moment we left! Sure to be back for more. read more

I'm not the first person who comes to mind with the word "athletic." I'm uncoordinated, clumsy, and not at all competitive. So when I ask my husband to occasionally do something at ALL sporty, he's all in. And we had a really fun day at Archery Bow Range Chicago. We arrived around 3:00 p.m. on a Saturday, but we were told there was a class starting and they didn't have room for open shooting at that time. We didn't want to join the class (another thing about NOT being an athlete: I don't enjoy instruction or criticism, I just want to have fun). The girl was really nice and said we could come back at 5:00 p.m. We were able to kill two hours in the area easily (visiting Shit Fountain, pie at Hoosier Mama, and shopping at RR #1). We got back here a little early where some young girls were singing Anna Kendrick's "Cups," and a second girl was banging on a wooden ramp. I grabbed an orange Fanta out of the vending machine and watched. Gotta love extra (free) entertainment. Since we were new, they charge a $5 instructional/safety fee: don't shoot other people, don't shoot yourself, etc. Then it's $10/hour (per person) and $5 for equipment rental (per person). We spent $40 here and had a blast! I really was so happy that they weren't breathing down our necks. The guy who helped us ran down the rules, showed us how to properly shoot, and watched us for a round. He gave us some helpful tips, especially after seeing the red welt on my arm where the bow string snapped my arm, and more or less left us alone. I did fairly well. Even if you're not a meathead sport-o, you can hit the targets. I'd be nervous on a first date here, because of my lack of athleticism, so it's best saved for a second or third date. Or maybe even marriage. Because now I don't care how stupid I look in front of my very athletic husband. It's the brick building with the gated parking lot just before/after the bridge on Kimball. The neighborhood is fine. read more

Did you know? Clinics are $20/hour and after that, its $10/hour. An hour is actually quite long to be constantly shooting. We came here with a group of over 10 friends and they were extremely friendly and accommodating. We started off in a training room with targets approximately 20-30 feet away. The instructors were fantastic. By the 5th round, I was pretty much shooting consistently near the bulls eye. Especially after watching the hunger games, this place makes me want to come back again. Overall, it's a great DATE activity. I'd highly recommend it even if you have no hand eye coordination! Also, bring CASH! read more

I love this place so much. Their classes / leagues are awesome and everyone who works there is friendly and just wants to share their love of this sport. I've taken some friends there as well who were true beginners / hadn't shot in a long time and within the hour they were shooting really well and had a great time. Highly recommend! read more

So much fun. I've been here twice and I plan on going back again. I felt like a total badass hero when I do archery. The instructors are great. Very helpful and nice. Another plus: it's not an expensive activity. They provide equipment you can rent for $5 (for a bow and 3 or 5 arrows, I don't remember). And it's $10 an hour to shoot. Pretty good deal. GO. You won't regret it. read more

I look for the introductory classes on their website and there isn't one the day I want. I figure it's because it's Easter weekend. Then a few days later, I go to sign up for a different day and it's there. It's not because the April schedule wasn't up as it was April. I registered for an introductory clinic and I'm suppose to get an email confirmation. It doesn't come until 2 days before. I email them about it since I didn't received it and I get no reply. They have no phone! Interesting thing is when you email them to cancel, you have to provide two phone numbers. Poor, or should I say, no communication. What type of business doesn't have a phone or answer emails in 2014? Bad business practice. They obviously don't know what they're doing. I know, I own two businesses including a marketing company. My friend and I want to take archery classes regularly. This is not the place to learn or train. Go to professionals. We're taking our money elsewhere. You should too. read more

This place was phenomenal! I can't say enough about how nice the staff was. I went with my grade school aged son (we were both first-timers) and they took the time to instruct us on the proper technique. Well worth the price. I highly recommend Archery Bow Range. For just $25 you can take an intro clinic to archery which includes some quick instructions and tips and then you'll get to shoot for about 1.5 hours. We were split into two groups and each group shot 3 arrows before the next group went so the turnover was very quick. The instructors were very professional, friendly, and helpful. Do take note that they only accept cash or check so make sure you have one or the other on you. Definitely stop by if you have a chance and I'm sure you'll have a blast like I did. read more

Q: Bernice Y, how many rounds were you able shoot for an hour? A: Hmmm.... only about A BILLION.... more or less. haha. Seriously, I lost count because it was a whole lot! My hour flew by so quickly because I was really into it and of course, Rule #4, I was having so much fun! Archery Bow Range Chicago gets 5 stars for their cool warehouse location, very friendly and knowledgeable tag-team duo staff!, and their reasonable hourly/rental rates! I can't wait to practice more and try one of their clinics! Thanks for my new hobby! read more

Fun afternoon! Your $20 (cash or checks only) gets you two hours of instruction and practice, gear provided by the ABRC team. Check the website for class times. The other commenter thought this might make a good first date. Not sure I'd second that... but it is a good date with someone you already know, a great boy's birthday party, and an excellent team-building exercise for your company. Or it could just be a random thing to do in Chicago. read more

What a great deal! $20 for 2 hours of shooting and instruction. Gear included. I went on a Thursday evening for an intro to Archery Clinic. Everyone was super friendly, very patient and extremely helpful. I would recommend this to anyone from kids to adults of any age. My clinic had 4 shooters to start off and a total of 6 (?) by the end. Apparently the weekend clinics get much busier but this was just perfect. There were very experienced shooters in the bigger (longer) range and it was fascinating to watch them shoot between rounds. These guys are good. Free parking is a huge bonus! I will definitely be back to shoot again! read more

This place was great fun and made me realize that I'm so happy I didn't live during those days that you had to hunt your food with a bow and arrow! If so, I probably would have never eaten meat. Oh, and I'd definitely be kicked out of Robin Hood's crew or at least be the water boy. The staff and instructors were great. Very welcoming and helpful with instruction. Great price for an activity that you would rarely do outside of summer camp while in the third grade. If you want to take a girl out on a date, make sure you've gone a few times prior to practice your skills so you can impress her. read more

If there were 6 stars, I'd award them. Stuff you need to know: it's fun, addictive, friendly, relaxed. The BEST way to get away from the stresses of life; go in there, shoot lots of arrows, come out relaxed - what better way to spend $10? (+$5 if you need to rent equipment). Other stuff you need to know: Check the calendar before you go, if there are classes running at the time you want to shoot, it can be a little boisterous! Best present I ever gave myself. read more

Duuuuude! This place is amazing! Are you looking for something stupid fun to do on a Friday night? Look no further. Everyone here is super low key and they are very welcoming to newbies that want to try out some bow and arrow action. A perfect first or second date kind of place. You do not need to bring your own bow. It's $5 to rent a bow and $10 an hour to shoot. read more

This place meets its patrons with admirable amounts of professionalism and approachability. A modest place for you to rent a lane for an hour or two, learn from the staff (who, magically, know when to approach a beginner and when to let you keep shooting). Clinics are quite helpful and the instructors are knowledgeable and respectful of participants' abilities, prior knowledge, limitations, etc. Clinics are moderately priced at $20 a session. Free shooting is $10/hr, and equipment rental is $5. read more

I took the "Intro to Archery" clinic (the one-time class for $25) and had a lot of fun! Instructors were nice and attentive. Honestly, you can beat an hour and a half of fun for $25 while learning a new skill. Only downside is the place is really tiny and the intro clinic gets super repetitive after a while. "Clear. Group 1. Clear. Group 2. Clear. Group 1. Etc." read more

Had a great experience here! Our son recently got into archery while down in central IL. Decided to look up some locations for him to explore this more in the Chicago area and found this place, a quick bus ride from us. Headed over one evening just to "shoot around". We just did a cold walk in, but were readily welcomed and joined in with some other people already there. Everyone there was friendly, supportive of both my son and his experience as well as myself and my husband's lack of experience. By the end of our hour, we were doing remarkably better than when we started. Prices are very reasonable and cheaper the second time around We'll definitely be back. read more

Took the intro clinic for $25. A great way to spend the afternoon. Our instructor quickly gave us the basics then gave us plenty of time to practice. I really appreciated that he continued to give us tips to improve our stance and aiming. His coaching helped us get some bullseyes! We're looking forward to going back for additional practice at $15/hour (including bow rental) On a practical note- there's a small parking kit right next to the warehouse (just avoid dog store parking). Go to the first plain-looking door and buzz Chicago archery. read more

Was looking for something new to learn during the long, cold, dark winter evenings... And found happiness in challenges and achievements here. - Service is great! Consistent and friendly. They are very willing to work for you. Offer discount multi punch cards. Great hours and organized. - Equipment is chosen based on the level of skill. - Knowledge is power! Even outside the classes all of this great peeps are giving pointers! So helpful. And they don't kid around! :-) Warning: be prepared to get hooked from day one! And enjoy the experience! read more

Came here for a couple's clinic and was pleasantly surprised how nice the staff was and how well they taught the class. It was a beginners class so anyone could come and have a great time, I'm excited to go back and improve my archery skills. Don't worry about equipment, they have everything you need. read more

Singed up for a Saturday intro clinic, which was for a hour and a half. They have four rules, three of which deal with safety, the fourth is "have fun". Much to my surprise, they had three separate groups that all had to share the same materials such as, bows and arrows. The first session took over 15 minutes to get through. 2/3s of the rest of the time was spent waiting for other groups to finish shooting 3 measly arrows. Needless to say, my group broke rule number 4, "have fun" for the full hour and a half. We paid $25 dollars to shoot for about 25 minutes. VERY, VERY DISAPPOINTED. read more

Wish I can tell you what my experience was but I didn't get a chance to experience anything. I contacted them twice via e-mail (the only option) in May for a possibility of a private event, but I have still not heard from them. The only reason I am writing this review is perhaps someone from their management will take notice and change their customer service practices. What a great idea for an experience, and I would hate if it closed for something that can be easily remedied. read more

after being inspired by the hunger games, we just HAD to shoot some arrows. right? ok dorky. i have to admit, i was the most amazing archer in 8th grade. EVER. in LIFE. okay, not really. but i have shot before and i was decent and consistent. my bf wanted to give it a whirl so we randomly found this place. it's pretty far west - logan sq/humboldt park. i know what you're thinking: why is there any archery facility in humboldt park of ALL places? yeah, i dont have an answer for you. i was picturing that it was going to be more like a huge dome / indoor range. it's actually in a warehouse type bldg. they have a FREE parking lot! you can totally go there without making an appt, which is what we did. walking in there was a little confusing, as there were people waiting to shoot or waiting for others. we signed the waver and signed up on the sign-up sheet. there was an intro class already in session, which we were luckily able to join for a discounted/pro-rated rate. the staff was really nice, friendly and helpful. they helped us pick out equipment, taught us which eye was dominant, and then slowly integrated us into the class. they even let us shoot another 30 minutes extra since we came in late. the facility is nothing fancy, but it does the job. there's a classroom section and then a room where fancy people shoot arrows. like with crazy lookin' bows and shit. and they are so accurate it's ridic. really cool to watch. we'll be back. because we're really, REALLY cool. read more

Its amazing! read more

I cannot say enough good things about this place. If you want to learn archery the right way, go here! Trust me, they know what they're doing and train you to be safe. I've been to other places where arrows were flying backwards and it's not comforting... We drove from the suburbs and it was worth the trip. We took an intro class and the instructor was friendly and extremely thorough. It was a little intimidating at first, but the staff makes you feel comfortable. They are encouraging and take the time to help you if you're struggling. I had so much fun, I plan on taking advantage of the private lessons they offer. I have been to other ranges in the area and this one makes me feel the safest. Very Important!! read more

This place is pretty awesome. Went in for a beginners clinic this past weekend and had a great time. It was first time for both of us, but I feel like we learned a lot from this single session. Planning on defneitely going back, hoping they can give me a hand getting my new bow setup and tuned. This seems like a great hobby and I loved shooting.
