I found Archery Bow Range after searching for archery lessons in Chicago. I showed up on the wrong…read moredate, but the staff were still glad to help me learn how to shoot. The range has a very low-key vibe. I was shooting within five minutes of my lesson. It was really awesome to learn a new skill that I might actually be good at! Every time my arrow strayed far from the bullseye it was because I forgot to include every tip given to me. And cost is so low that you can't not give it a try. So, head on over to Humboldt Park and channel your inner Katniss or Legolas.

( although I guess it gets pretty crowded because by the time we were done and out people were waiting for Parking spaces) 2. Friendly friendly staff! They were so patient and funny and eager to answer any questions. They greet u by the door with a welcoming "hello!". 3. Affordable. $27/ person if 5 or more people in a group and $35/ person if 4 or less people. (Not sure if these prices are higher for a party because some of the other reviews say different.) 4. Have fun!! That's one of their biggest rules! 5. We got to keep out bullseye sheet thingy! -like others have said its in a warehouse-type building and u have to ring bell to get in. It's located right next to a puppy food store. (I don't have a pet but I suggest checking it out after archery because some of the products are so funny and cute) -when u walk in they'll instruct u to sign in and sign a waiver. Coat hanger available upon walking in -they take only cash or check so have these ready! - they don't have a phone. ALL contact is via email or walk-in so make sure to book appointments in advance Have fun!! My party and I sure did! Far exceeded our expectations! Can't wait to go back!

A group of three of us decided to throw on green tights and take some lessons here. It's an old…read moreschool shop, and it reminds me of the kind of place my Grandpa used to take me when I was a kid where a bunch of old dudes would stand around smoking indoors. Thankfully, the only smoking going on here was the one from my bow while I was shooting bullseyes! Okay, so that is a slightly embellished statement. I am a beginner. The man that greeted us did so in a very kind manner and was patient and informative in setting us up. He practiced our 'release' with us, even though he was not our instructor. Once our teacher was ready, we went over to the lesson range. His name was Pete and he was pretty funny and informative. His reactions and the faces he made when we goofed up were priceless. He gave us great tips and gently instructed us after each shot. My favorite statement of his was "now, don't think about anything I just told you!" We had a blast, and are inclined to come back for another lesson. Of course, I already want to buy a bow and go running around the woods (but not to kill anything.) I will check myself though, as I don't want to wreck myself. After all, it could be bad for my health. Instead, next time we will come back to the Archery Custom shop in real stealth form.

They were friendly and perfectly professional, and both were highly knowledgeable on how to setup and fine tune my new bow. They answered all my questions (no matter how ridiculous they might have been!). Afterward, I went to their range to test out the bow and was pleasantly surprised. Although I had my own supplies, they had rentable equipment for individuals to use and shoot too. I'm sure I'll be back, and I plan to bring friends to check out the range as well!

Forteza Fitness is a supportive group who pushes you to do your best and work with whatever you can do. Taking any kind of class can be overwhelming especially when you have difficulties with the exercise. Everyone from the teachers to other students are so patient and work with my abilities and support each other as we go through the classes. I have struggled with classes because of trying to train my muscles to work a certain way or having the stamina, but the support at Forteza keeps pushing me and helping to make me stronger/heathier.

The space is set up mostly for the martial arts, so that it feels like a set for period movie about Queen Elizabeth. It's a very comfortable space for bookworms to come work out. The fitness classes are very fun. They tend to be small, with lots of personal, gentle attention. Trainers get to know the regulars and the regulars get to know each other, which makes each workout friendly and welcoming. And I got a great deal on personal training. The workouts themselves are usually a bit more focused on strength and flexibility over cardio/endurance. The one drawback (for those who use the space more for fitness) is that it really is more of studio than a gym. There's no showers and no treadmills. Somehow I'm far more motivated to work out here than I was at other places I tried, where I'd just end up donating my gym membership month after month. At Forteza I feel like I'm getting a personal training . . .in a class setting . . three times a week. Like it's gym class again but for fun people with nice teachers. It's a gym class that's redeemed itself. They've fixed gym class. It's glorious.

Ya could say I hit the Bullseye when I found BowDoc ; )…read more I took the Thursday night archery intro class and it was awesome. I've never touched a bow in my life but I was totally comfortable with everything as it was taught and presented. We got to shoot so much during the class and we also got to stay after class as long as we wanted until the range closed to keep shooting. I loved it. Fyi: The Intro class was only $20 & it's only $15 for open range including renting a bow. And you can stay as long as you want. The people are so friendly, welcoming, and inclusive. I love that there are so many women involved. Apparently women are badass archers! I've been back to shoot now at the open range and there seem to be no egos; there's a great supportive vibe. Everyone just has fun while focusing on honing their skill at this really addictive sport. The archery shop has a good selection, lots of bows, arrows, targets, all kinds of stuff. I asked about getting set up with a new bow and what I like is that they were very honest about the cost of getting started, they didn't try to up sell me or give me the hard sell like so many places would've have since I'm 1) obviously super eager & 2) relatively clueless about archery. The shop is set in a tricky to find place the first time, for me at least. It's set behind a storage unit place. There's a long driveway but you just go past the storages/garages, there is at least one sign (a burma shave/garage sale style sign) that says Archery with an arrow towards the shop. And the shop is easy to see on the left once you drive by the storages & other businesses. Parking is easy. Tl;dr: I feel safe and welcome at BowDoc. :o)
