I'd say I am lower intermediate when it comes to ping-pong. I think Chi-slam is open to everyone and they're always looking for more people to come play. It's open almost every day of the week which is great. It's in this weird little basement which is awesome and hilarious, very Chicago. I've been a few times now and for the most part people are welcoming. The owner Ardy is pretty hard-core with the rules, but is known to be a good teacher. Text message Ardy at 312 287 9852 earlier in the day you want to come by and then call that number when you get there and they'll let you in. It's $10 each time you come, but you can play all night (6-10 pm) if there is a free table and someone to play you. There are usually 5-8 people there each night (in my limited experience). read more

Ardy is a great detailed and patient teacher. I was very nervous to start learning, but he made me feel very comfortable right away. I was able to buy a racket and some ping pong balls at the facility. I enjoy how he is able to correct every swing and tell me exactly what I'm doing incorrectly, while also demonstrating the proper technique with endless analogies to help it all make sense. I plan on going every week to increase my skill level. So cool to learn that he has trained famous actors to play ping pong in movies and is well respected in the field. read more

I started playing at Chi-Slam in 2021 and am now playing there several times a week. The daily open play sessions are a great way to improve your game as you get to play against a wide variety of players with varying techniques and styles. Everyone is really friendly and inviting and the owner, Ardy, is great. He is well know throughout the Chicago table tennis community as a great teacher and his lessons will improve your game dramatically. He has even trained movie stars like Vince Vaughn for movie roles that have ping pong scenes in them. The club also runs tournaments every Sunday for all levels of players with free pizza and trophies and prizes for the top performers. Whether you just want to have fun, improve your game or play some serious competitive table tennis, then you have to check this place out. It is a hidden gem! read more

Great place to play table tennis. Good lighting and a few of the tables have a soft floor also. There's players of different skill levels so you can always find a good game. You can also take lessons if you're a beginner or want to improve your game. The owner is a little quirky but very friendly. I really love playing here! I recommend Chi Slam if you wanna pong! Coming here for my friend's bachelor party, all I knew was that we were going to a table tennis club. Once we arrived we saw a U-Haul shop, florist, and ping pong shop all meshed into one. We worked with the owner to rent out the venue and organize our own ping pong tournament !!!! The setup of the playing area featured around 6 tables, folding chairs, leather sofas, some recliners and barriers so ping pong balls would not be flying everywhere out of reach. There was plenty of room for all of us to put our stuff down as well as tables for when the pizzas arrived. Large garbage cans were also available allowing us to throw away bottles and cans with ease. The ping pong tables are in tip top shape and the young kids playing are table tennis jedi masters in training. We organized a four hour tournament and when we went over on time, the owner let us continue to play. If you want to get into ping pong, Chi-Slam Table Tennis Club is where to go!!! read more

Visited this place while trying to look up places to play ping pong in this covid situation since all major places like SPIN are closed. Our friend reserved one table for an hour with the owner for leisurely playing. We were not there to train or anything, just play for fun. The place is in the basement under the Anytime fitness club. They have 4 tables and the place is completely covered by plastics all over, not sure if how it is all round the year. Ventilation was a serious concern for the 1 hour we spent there and in case of a hazard, this place is so screwed. Anyway, table was good and the owner gave us some spare bats as well. Our one hour passed by quickly and though we enjoyed the session of ping pong we were happy to be back in the open after the hour was open. We paid $20 for the hour. Owner was really nice opening up the place to us. The place also has a small shop to buy ping pong merchandise if anyone is interested. read more

Awesome ping pong club. The level of play is excellent, and the coach/owner is a great teacher. You can take lessons, participate in open play, or compete in monthly tournaments. I've enjoyed coming here for the past four years, and my game has improved considerably. Keep in mind, you need to call the owner to let you in the front door. read more

Never even knew a place like this existed. Just one more reason Chicago is great, I suppose. It looks like a regular storefront of some sort but behind whatever they are selling up front are six or so ping pong tables ready for use. You walk in, you fill out a quick waiver, and they assign you a table. All equipment is provided and it was just 15$ per hour. There are some serious players there which was fun to watch too. Chairs and couches in the back to relax in if you are not playing or sitting out a game. This was great fun. A logical place to go if you ever need to resolve an "I can beat you in ping pong" dispute with a friend. read more

I have been playing at Chi-Slam Table Tennis Club since June 2019 and I absolutely love it (review below excludes COVID-19 concerns) 1. The owner (Ardy) is extremely nice and helpful and you can tell he just loves the game. He also gives really good lessons, which has dramatically improved my overall game. Being a student of of the club has its perks 2. Open gym and lessons are way more affordable than playing at Spin and Ace Bounce, and you get way more room 3. Local club that is less than a 10 minute drive from the loop and is accessible via blue line 4. Hours are accommodating; I am able to go after work on the weekdays and go during the morning on the weekends 5. Good amount of tables (5) so you don't have worry about having to wait 6. Monthly tournaments that are extremely fun and are the best way to improve your game. For open table, Ardy can eve pair you with people that are coming alone (good at skill-based match matching) 7. Chi-Slam is fantastic. I went just to check it out about two months ago after a quick search for table tennis clubs around Chicago. Since my first night there, I've gone back at least three times per week, played in a tournament, and taken lessons with Ardy, the owner. The community is Chi-Slam is incredibly friendly. I can hold my own against many of the players, but some are just worlds better than I. It's a great place to hone your skills, because everyone is always willing to work on certain strokes or just play a friendly game. After only two lessons, I've seen significant improvements in my game. Ardy excels at helping you pick up new shots very quickly and refining your existing technique. The equipment shop is another plus. I picked up a new pair of athletic shoes and a new paddle. The latter has contributed big time to my improvement. Every time I go to Chi-Slam and open play ends, I want to go back immediately. The welcoming atmosphere and culture of improvement are infectious. My sister really recommended this club for my son who is a beginner in table tennis. My son learns effectively & feels very comfortable with Ardy's teaching/ coaching skills. We signed our 12 year old son up for a series of lessons last Spring and he loved them. He has continues to take take lessons and play in tournaments there. The majority of the regular participants are males: teen-age boys through middle-aged men. The atmosphere is oddly warm and welcoming. It's in the basement of a building in humbolt park and there's plenty of tables and comfortable couches for watching tournaments. The instruction is top notch - pretty intense - but lots of fun and encouraging too. The players are all very friendly and genuinely want everyone to have a good time. This is not a night club bar scene at all. It's strictly ping pong. If you are pretty good at ping pong and want to get better, I would definitely recommend this hidden gem. read more

Excellent club! My brother came from Georgia and we wanted to play ping pong. We found them online and went to play. The staff is friendly and they have a rule that you must play with different players so everybody has a chance to play. We played for about 2 hours 1/2 and we had a blast! read more
