Grinding metal in class with Steve behind the camera.
    Kelly B.

I had always wanted to learn how to make yard art and my friend found this place on Yelp. We just finished the class and I already can't wait to take the next one! I left feeling very empowered and excited. Steve is an amazing instructor and is clearly passionate about two things: welding and people. He knows his stuff, but as soon as it starts to feel really technical, he turns it around and makes welding feel fun and approachable. He also offered to take pics of us and they turned out so great. We left with with our finished piece and a cool benie hat that we wore under our masks when welding. BONUS: The shop is in a great location, so we walked to Old Oak after and celebrated our victory with booze. A few tips: The shop isn't heated, but as long as you dress warm, you'll be fine. LAYERS! For clothing, I recommend a long sleeve shirt with a thick hoodie over it, jeans, and leather boots. Also make sure to bring something to hold your hair back. One last thing... Steve can teach up to 4 people per class so I suggest getting a few friends together to bond through welding!

There is nothing more satisfying than tackling something new and leaving with confidence and understanding. I took the class with my husband and 2 friends, and almost wanted to bail as I wasn't sure what I really could do with this skill ultimately. But curiosity and commitment got the better of me, and I don't regret a single minute of it. As the other reviewers said, Steve's coaching style was top-notch -- patient, thorough and encouraging. His workshop is well-equipped to handle a small class, complete with stylish Stormtrooper-esque welding mask/helmet, apron, and gloves. At the end of the class, we left with a souvenir of our butt-joint endeavor and an adorable beanie, which hides a bonus (I won't tell you what it is but it is truly nifty!) Better yet, I left with an appreciation for the craft of welding and admiration for those who can do it well.

Now to decide a project to bring to the shop to work on

A friend and I decided to take a welding course and went with this one based on a couple of great reviews. The classes were booked almost a month out so be mindful of that. I really liked that the class size was only 4 people and that you got a hands on experience along with the classroom part as to how it all works. Stephen the owner/instructor was great. Super courteous and very knowledgeable. He took the time to explain the process and stressed safety but not to the point that it made you feel overwhelmed by it all. Over all I had a great experie6and will be back to use the available shop time to keep practicing while working on some projects brewing in my head.

My son and just completed our second MIG class and we just love this place. Very patient and really relaxed atmosphere. We are looking forward to doing some shop time next and maybe joining the table class. I love that he teaches kids too. Best class for anyone who wants to learn welding fir the knowledge and fun of it. Pure fun.

Quality Work Leads to Beautiful Results…read more Skyline Metal Fabrication is the absolute best! We hired Skyline to replace our wooden backyard fences (fences that flank both sides of our property) with steel/wood privacy fences. The entire experience was handled very professionally. The process started with Ramiro, the owner and leader, visiting us to ask about/listen to what we wanted in a fence. Ramiro spent a fair amount of time with us to ensure full understanding of what the project would entail. Within a few days, Ramiro provided a fair estimate. Based on the reviews we read about his team's work and on our initial experience with Ramiro, we hired Skyline Metal Fabrication. Within a reasonable time frame (about 8 weeks in our case), Ramiro and the Skyline Metal Fabrication team was on site to start work. We found the entire crew to be friendly, considerate, conscientious, expedient, professional and hard-working. The team always accommodated our need to let our dog in the back yard to do her business without a hitch. They arrived on time and stayed until they completed what they needed to accomplish each day. They were also careful to clean up at the end of each day. Within five working days, our steel/wood privacy fence was complete. The work is of the highest quality, as the team focused on every detail, spending the time it took to ensure a beautiful result. We are particularly pleased with the excellent craftsmanship of the ornamental lattice work that tops our privacy fence. We can't recommend the Skyline team highly enough. We are extremely happy with their work. Anyone considering similar metalwork will be as well.

This is an important choice for our cities, and our citizens. In our house, we are thrilled to support Tyler & Team. Although our first project was small, a trio of gorgeous live-edge walnut shelves for a tricky hallway laundry lack-of-storage issue, Whitney made sure that we left feeling like the most important clients to walk through the doors. Not only did her experience and ideas make the project much better, but it was done in less than half the time estimated, with some amazing trivets provided from the scraps as a gift. No doubt that they will be our go-to team for all future projects!

I really liked it, but it was in a sad shape. There was a gooey residue on the barrel that would sometimes leave imprints on peoples clothes if they brushed up against it. They did an excellent job sanding and staining the barrel and cleaning up the metal hoops and fastening them so they would no longer slip down the barrel. And all that residue is gone. It looks like a million bucks and I would definitely recommend them for any projects you may be thinking of

You can tell he truly cares about what he does and about helping students learn about fabricating custom parts.. He has helped us with so many custom parts, from metal side plates and back plates to protective polycarbonate plates. He also did something really special for us that not many teams get the opportunity to do, which is custom machining our own gears. Our robot needed a specific size gears in order to create the perfect RPM for the motor. We were unable to find any available parts online and had to make our own. Steve was extremely helpful and the quality turned out amazing! When we were getting ready for the FIRST Tech Challenge World Championship, we were under a ton of pressure with a really tight deadline. We had less than a month to design and build our robot, and there is no way we could have done it without Steve. There were times he got parts done for us the same day. One time, we were a few days out from the World Championship and after initial rounds of testing, we realized our robot could be even faster. Steve was extremely helpful in this matter, where he used his own steel and welded the gears onto a standoff. He was able to get the new custom gears done in just hours, and we were able to attach the new gears onto the robot on the same day! What really stands out is how much he cares. He always took the time to help us, no matter how busy things were, and he treated our team with so much support and respect. Because of him, we were able to succeed at Worlds, earning 3rd place in Design in our division and making it to playoffs. For the 2026 season, we are ranked as one of the top teams in the state of Illinois and regarded as a top caliber team in the world. We are really grateful for everything Steve has done for us. We truly could not have done this without him, and we would recommend Create Cut Invent to anyone, especially for robotics and STEM projects.
