We found the Elf in the Oak on Yelp and once we saw the menu, we knew we had to give it a try. The Elf in the Oak is nestled on Rt 414. If you're not actively using a GPS, you may pass it by. It's not a large place by any means, but there's more than enough seating indoors and out. We went on a Friday morning, so there wasn't a wait and we received our food quickly. We both wanted 'the Spicy' and I have to admit, it's one of the best egg sandwiches I've ever had, which is high praise coming from someone who once worked at a popular bagel joint on Long Island. If we lived locally, we'd definitely go back, but I hope if you're looking for a quick casual brunch place to grab a bite, you consider visiting the Elf In The Oak.

The schnitzel sandwich was also very good. The fries, at $8 as a side were not worth it, I would have rather ordered another sandwich than got two sides of fries. The chips were also almost flavorless, except that of 99% fresh oil. The kids grilled cheese was American cheese, and thus, imho, was not very good. One of my kids took a bite and didn't like it either. Ambiance: simple, nice view of the lake. Service: friendly staff. Tl;DR: I'll be back, but won't order sides or the grilled cheese.

Goulash special was great. Large portion. Ruby red Ruben was good. French Fries, some of the best I have had. Fresh, hot and tasty. There was live music in the back room, so we opted for a booth in the front room so we could have quiet dinner conversation. Alisha was great. She explained the menu, the Mac & cheese, and the dairy bar in the adjacent bldg. We ordered dinner and it was out quickly. Hubby had the entree of brisket & pulled pork with a side of veggies and the Mac & cheese. The Mac & Cheese is so, so good. We ordered some to take home for my son! My balsamic chicken entree was delicious - I loved the side of carrots & zucchini- very fresh & unique! Great dinner, no hesitation to come back here. And, we did have to wander over to the dairy bar and check out the ice cream too! On the way, we noticed lots of outdoor seating and maybe a little stage too. There is live music regularly! Hubby got a shake & I had a dish of hard ice cream. It hit the spot! Thanks so much!

The beige cement building was the site of Zim's Place-The Village Diner until 2008. It was "a mess" when Jeff took it over, he said. Fresh off running the Cato Family Diner and the restaurant at Hickory Hill Golf Course in his native Baldwinsville, he spent about five months renovating the abandoned space. Along with new infrastructure, it has a new but classic red and white checkerboard floor. Wife and I have passed by this diner hundreds of times, and finally decided to go one morning when we wanted breakfast. Small place, but we were sat immediately and had a server at our table with menus. Menu is bigger than expected, and I went with the meat lovers breakfast sandwich - eggs, bacon, ham and sausage on Texas toast - with home fries and my wife got a pancake platter with bacon and eggs. Everything was brought out quickly. The sandwich was not exactly what I expected, but was good. The menu described it as "piled high", so I had slices of ham, bacon and sausage stacked on top of each other in my head, but it was chopped up pieces of each scrambled into an egg. Home fries were good and wife had no complaints about hers. Prices are great, I think our bill was less than $20. Service was friendly. It's a decent place to go if you want simple, straight forward food for a good price.
