The shop definitely has a vibe and a charm that has collected over the last 50 years.

It's been a while since I've been to Bodega. It was always a good place to grab a wonderful deli…read moresandwich or a piece of quiche, sparkling water, and baklava for dessert. When the coffee house was closed( this is a midwest thing; business close on random days and random hours if there is a ball game, friend's wedding, gymnastic practice, or the county fair going on) we decided to go to Bodega. The inside is small and congested. At this time there were 3 loud talkers whose voices were booming and filling the entire store. We went to the deli section which offered few selections. Decided on the chicken salad on marbled rye. Service was fast and the sandwich looked amazing. Sadly that is where is ended. The chicken salad, while abundant, lacked flavor. Very bland. The bread was delicious. Baklava was excellent. However, while my husband and I were eating our meal and finally able to hear one another (the loud talkers left), the server was cleaning the floor, stacking chairs, wiping down tables and booths, clearly wanting us to leave. Closing time was 20 minutes away but my gosh, could she have been any more obvious and rude. Would I go there again? Ehhhh. It left a lot to be desired.

I started smiling as soon as we walked in. Such a cool and fun atmosphere. Chicago sports memorabilia everywhere you look along with Chicago food favorites on offer. The bar is old and wooden with comfortable seats. It has a really nostalgic feel, like an urban neighborhood pub from decades ago. Plenty of tables, and I've heard rumors of an upper deck that is open at appropriate times. There is also outdoor seating on High Street. The atmosphere is undoubtedly very different on a Friday night when it's packed with upper classmen throwing back shots, but on a weekday late afternoon suppertime I'd say it's family friendly and welcoming to all. (I even saw a sign behind the bar: No explicit lyrics before 9 pm.) There were several staff members at work either making food or behind the bar. They were all quite young, and quite friendly and cheerful. I'm holding off on the fifth star till we get a chance to try the food. We had already eaten and just stopped for a couple of beers (a Truth and a Mich Ultra, on tap). But now I'm writing this I'm getting a serious craving for Italian Beef, so hope to be back soon.

(www.oxvegaschicken.com) It's cashless, like the entire Miami University campus, so pay with credit card, your phone, or gift card (available to purchase online or a prior kiosk order). Parents can even order gift cards online from home and have them sent to their Miami student's phone number to be used immediately. The order usually comes out before you even have a chance to sit down at a table...Freaky Fastest! My first order was called out so fast that I thought the order must be someone else's! Food is made fresh in front of your eyes (open window allows full visualization to the entire kitchen): fresh (never frozen) chicken tenderloins are hand battered and dropped immediately into the fryer, fresh (not frozen) Texas toast is hand buttered and dropped into the toaster conveyor, mac & cheese is packaged as it is ordered, and everything is assembled in plain view, in a very short time! Employees & management are all super friendly and helpful and keep a great ambiance in the kitchen and throughout the entire restaurant. Owners are on site on the weekends and during the week and can often be seen doing all the jobs, in and out of the kitchen. The menu is concise and offers a great tasting meal without the wait. Three of us shared a Senior Meal, consisting of 8 tenders, 2 sauces, seasoned waffle fries, & garlic buttered Texas toast. Menu items are meals (simplest and most popular way to order) with the number of chicken tenders corresponding to a college year, or you can order each item separately as a side, or you can add additional sides to a meal. Even though we were sitting and talking for over 30 min, when we broke open the last tender, which felt cooled off on the outside, the chicken was still STEAMING on the inside! And so juicy! Absolutely amazing! We love love loved the seasoned waffle fries, a nice crispy outside with a soft, tender inside (though they have run out from time to time and had to serve regular French fries in a pinch...so if that happened to you, make sure to go back when they have their waffle fries!! Amazing!). The food is all really good on its own, but it is all made even better by dipping everything, including the Texas toast (and I have heard of people even adding it to the mac & cheese) into their Signature OxSauce (also made from scratch on site)! Make sure to order extra...you can't get enough! Though I am not a vegetarian, the mac & cheese side is a pretty hefty portion, and combined with the seasoned waffle fries and/or the garlic buttered Texas Toast, should fill up anyone who doesn't want chicken. There is also a great bar area which is ready to open as soon as they get the approved paperwork back, hopefully less than a week or so. It will have several beers on tap, including their own craft beer, OxVegas Lager, as well as canned & bottled drinks, wine, & a FULL bar. The bar area has country music playing in the background and has numerous TVs on, but it is not so loud that it drowns out your conversation when sitting at a high top or at the bar. The opposite side of the restaurant is set up more for just the dining experience and feels a little more intimate without the TVs or music. The extreme number of windows makes the place feel super open and provides a great view from every seat, either to look out over the park, or to watch for friends passing by.
