An honest and friendly employee: I was at TOPS buying groceries on a Sunday night. A caucasian male in his 50's walks to Emolee, the cashier, and says, "I accidentally left with this box of sugar in my cart and I didn't pay for it. So I just need to ring this in and pay you for it". Well I don't work for Tops, but I was so impressed that I walked up to him and said, "Congratulations! You win today's honesty contest." I pulled out a stack of McDonald's BOG cards and said, "Today's gift is a free Be Our Guest card to McDonalds. Would you like a free coffee, free soda, free sandwich, free McCafe drink, or some other free item?" The man said, "No thank you. I just had to come back in the store and pay for this little box of sugar because I wouldn't be able to sleep all night, knowing I didn't pay for it." I told him I was very impressed by his actions. He turned to me and said, Thank you! At that point, I noticed he was wearing a black jacket with Arbys printed on it. I asked if he worked at Broadway and Transit. He said, he did. I said, I will be in there this week.
Well, Mike Schiappa, owner of Arbys, has certainly picked out a perfect employee. I had the pleasure of meeting one of the friendly Schiappa family members years ago. I like Arby's food but I rarely head that way while driving. Therefore, I only end up at that Arbys about once per month. But after seeing this gentleman's actions, I will go out of my way and make sure I'm there every single week.
I wonder how many individuals, would go back into the store and pay the few dollars for an item, after they discovered they forgot to pay for it? read more
