I had the pleasure of meeting her, and her heart for the community is unmatched. She shared that she offers food for anyone up to age 18 with no questions asked, provides a discount and dessert for first-time patrons, and offers 50% off for seniors. You can genuinely feel that this is a place rooted in kindness, care, and giving back. Bluegrass Tavern is more than just a restaurant, it's a wholesome, welcoming space that serves fantastic food while uplifting its community. First of all, if you thought the bread did not rise correctly, WHY did you sell it to me? Secondly, don't make dumb remarks like that. If you knew the bread was not what it should have been, call me and tell me that you have to remake the loaf, I would have liked that better than to get an awful loaf of bread. As for the croissants, they should be crispy on the outside and soft and airy and pillowy on the inside and taste of butter. These are like rolls!! With a bit of butter baked in. Subpar. The entire restaurant is decorated with art and crafts devised by students who work at Berea College. For lunch, I had a delicious catfish Po Boy sandwich with broccoli raisin slaw. Dessert was warm bread pudding with Kentucky bourbon sauce. Each meal is accompanied by an individual serving of the Tavern's famous warm spoon bread (a kind of corn meal soufflé) with butter. Dinner was light (still full from lunch). Kale sausage soup, hot deviled eggs and, of course more spoon bread. All washed down with filtered water and southern sweet tea. Servers were attentive and helpful. There is a full bar and an amazing offering of fine Kentucky Bourbons. Boone Tavern is pet friendly and located on campus. Shopping and campus locations are walkable. Parking is free and conveniently located. Guests may work out at the college gym, stroll campus, or drive a short distance to hike in the Berea College forest (Pinnacles). Rooms are well appointed and furnished with furniture made by students. Highly recommend Boone Tavern Hotel and restaurant for a little getaway.

Parking is simple as it's free street parking and there's plenty of space. I ordered the big cheese sandwich with tomato soup dip. While waiting, I noticed they have a coffee bar inside so I ordered a half and half cortado. (Half decaf, half regular with half and half cream) Nick the barista was top notch. He not only matched my vibe on learning about all things good foods but he made one of the best coffee drinks I've had in a long time. I will most definitely be returning here as soon as I come back to Berea. The food was absolutely fantastic and so delicious, next time I'm opting for a big bowl or 2 of their tomato soup, it was seriously that good! The ambiance inside is very nicely set up, very casual and inviting with a modern decor. 10/10 on food service and hospitality. Also on Mondays, they offer a gluten free day for those that are gluten intolerant or want some glyphosate-free products, definitely come here for that.
