Unreliable CNA's and nursing staff. Didn't like being questioned about the care given for a loved one.

As I am still non weight bearing on my new ankle, I am utilizing an iWalk 3.0, at the suggestion of the Physical Therapy team, which allows me to climb up and down the 16 stairs I have at my residence entryway which I was very concerned about. The knowledgeable PT and OT team here is superlative and I would highly recommend this facility and their entire staff for anyone rehabbing post-surgery. The employees in admissions at this place acted like the genuinely cared and wanted to help! I went to take a tour and spoke with a few employees who all gave me some advice to get my dad out quicker from the other place. Needless to say I was stressed and wanted to get my dad moved and so I followed the advice. Well it was horrible advice that made my dad lose his insurance approval for any place! I left messages, emails for both the ladies that gave me advice and also copied upper management into the emails to ask for additional advice since I listened to them. I guess I should not be surprised they went radio silent and I haven't heard back from anyone. I honestly would have been ok with just an apology!!!!!

What really sets this place apart is that it's also a spine and rehab clinic. Dr. Groelz even helped me address some posture issues and an old exercise injury. Dr. Austin has been amazing in treating me. I feel better, stronger, and more confident than I have in a long time. This has been such a fantastic, life-changing experience. My hairdresser recommended I see the PA here. I really did not like the thought of having to drive…read moreso far, but I was very unhappy with my doctors office in that I rarely ever saw the same doctor and I felt that I needed to be under the care of ONE person. I have learned that you do not expect your physicians to genuinely care, but that as a patient, we should have an expectation that our physician is properly monitoring your medications, condition, any changes, etc, and act accordingly. This has not been the case for me and unfortunately I chose to just accept "whatever" when it came to my health... If they did not seem concerned, why should I. Wrong approach. I know, but... One day I was complaining to my hairdresser about how I was physically feeling. I was just DOWN and and at the point of breaking (ok, not ONE day... she is my hairdresser... lol. They know EVERYTHING about us, because lets face it, 3-5 hours in a chair every few months, they know more about you than your best friend!) She told me about this particular PA and HIGHLY recommended I see her. It took me a few months to make the appointment, but I was at the end of my rope. It was THE BEST DECISION where my health is concerned I could have EVER made. I was diagnosed with my issue in 1999 and I have NEVER had the care I am receiving now. Not in just the treatment of my illness, but she treats me like I matter. I feel as though she comes in to work that day just for me... her only patient. She is an INCREDIBLE balance of everything I need. Compassion, directness, honesty, sensitivity, and humor... personalized... and so many other qualities I could not possibly put them all down. The care I receive here has totally changed how I deal with my disease and trust me, that is a BIG deal. I simply cannot wait to get to my appointment every month. Yes. You read that correctly. I look forward to going to my PA as much as I do having a nice dinner, silly conversation, and a glass of wine with the girlfriends. My visits with her give me the immediate and long term boost to stay positive. No matter how I am when I go in, I leave, every time, without fail, with a MUCH better attitude and a smile. She provides WONDERFUL suggestions to implement into my daily life and always food for thought. I HIGHLY recommend my PA. Three things you should know: NEVER, EVER be late. I know as patients we are all so used to sitting in the waiting room for 15, 30, 45 minutes beyond our scheduled appt. time... will NEVER happen with her. EVER. It is SO awesome to walk in and have someone respect your time as we do theirs. She is INCREDIBLY organized and prepared. Give her a chance. I am uber sensitive and not accustomed to the level of direct that she is. Perhaps most of you are not as sensitive as I am so it will be a non-issue, but the first time or two I met with her, I was uneasy. Almost scared. LOL. Something told me to hang in there... because under that initial feeling I had, there was something that said "she is JUST what I need". And to this day, it could not be any more truer. I receive the MOST excellent care. As another reviewer stated regarding initial and random urine tests... "Be forewarned, they do not tell you this nor will they tell you when you will be tested again"... Yep. That is the case. And if you are there to be treated for what ails you and have nothing to be concerned about keeping hidden, then you will respect this, expect this, and be willing to comply. When under the care of a physician, it is their right and their responsibility (for good reason) to require such testing.

My doctor, affectionately called "Dr. E." is among a small handful of my very favorite physicians in my 80 years of life. The nurses and CNA's were all kind, helpful and quickly responsive to all of my call lights, requests for help and questions. My physical and occupational therapists were wonderful and enjoyable to work with. Far less important but still greatly appreciated is the physical environment. Bright and cheerful, lots of windows. If I ever need the services of another rehab center in the future I will ask I can go back there. I am sure there is no better facility. I recommend the Center at Northridge in Thornton Colorado to anyone that needs a skilled nursing facility to help them heal.

I can guarantee you that if anything were to occur in the future, we will never step foot in your establishment again. Please see the letter I wrote to the head honcho, with absolutely no response whatsoever. This was also just the tip of the iceberg. Throughout this stay, there have been a multitude of issues. To be quite honest, it was very disconcerting. That being said, none of it was towards the actual care team. Everyone that I personally encountered were extremely kind and helpful. This is where we are going to get into the details. Your Director of Case Management, Karen Cook, is absolutely wretched at her job. I'm not going to mince words. I believe I have spoken to her, via phone, twice. Please keep in mind that one of these was during the care conference on September **th, two days after admission. The other was prior to admission. She wrote in an email that she tried to call me a few days later, and that she left a voicemail. Surprising, as I received no missed calls, or a voicemail in the time period that she said she called. Not once did she try to call back. As stated, the only time I received a phone call from this woman was within the first two days of my mom being there. The care conference included her, and at least one therapist. Since then, I have received ZERO updates from any therapist of any kind. Not only that, but some of the emails received from Karen came across as condescending and rude. So, that favor may have been returned. She is absolutely not clear about anything. Today, I picked my mom up to return her to *********, where she resides in the memory care facility. I didn't get a care conference of any kind. Was handed papers to sign by the nurse (who was very nice), and basically shoved out the door. I do have all emails from Karen, if you would like me to forward them. I am beyond appalled. NO updates on therapy!? Nothing?! Phenomenal. Now, I will say my mom is a hard headed broad that thinks she doesn't need sort of medical device to help her move around, when she absolutely does. That being said, I received 5-6 phone calls stating that she had fallen. Oon 3 or 4 of those, she was ok. Another one, a portable xray machine was called in. One was when she was transported to the ER for multiple tests, of which a diagnosis of a hematoma was figured out. On Tuesday, I came down to see mom, and curiosity got the best of me. I asked the nurse to verify how many times mom had fallen. She looked it up, and guess what.........only 2-3 (I cannot accurately remember how many she said, because I was so baffled), were actually documented!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT!? So she fell a multitude of times, but only thought to document a couple of them? That is asinine. So, to say the least, I am writing this so you can see what is going on in this business. This is absolutely deplorable. These are family members. These are loved ones. Would you be ok with this happening with a member of your family!? Especially an 85 year old woman with dementia/alzheimers!? Yeah, me either. Thank you for your time.

Man, I fly up and down the stairs right now thanks to the technique learned. Shhh, don't tell my therapist, but I do now take two steps at a time going down the stairs. From the medical staff to the therapists, the team was A+++. There seems to be a culture of service at the company that carries through everyone. I'm missing all of these people asking me how everything is going and if I need anything at home. I may even have to admit I enjoyed the 7:00 am therapy sessions (I'm not a morning person). Only observation was that as a diabetic the food was a tiny bit challenging. The team however was always ready to replace a dish if needed.
