Here for one night at the hotel next door. Got in late but was hungry so decided to eat here before it was too late to eat anywhere. Food came out, my mouth was watering, lo and behold my first bite of the hashbrown encrusted walleye was full of bones. The fish tasted frozen and no amount of salt and pepper could save it, the lemon didn't help at all. McDonalds has more flavor to their food. If i had to explain how the fish was prepared, it was pulled out of the freezer slapped on a steamer that never got hot enough. The hashbrown crust, nice color, nice texture, and again no taste, didn't even taste like it was a potato. If you're coming here as a last ditch effort, don't. Save yourself a few bucks and go to a fast food place nearby. Now enough of the food, to the customer service. I was served by a middle aged woman, i would say in her forties. Blond hair, fairly nice when I walked in and complimented me. As I explained to food to the lady and how I wanted it changed for a triple decker (you can't really ruin one), I proceeded to let her know the fish was heavily filled with bones. She immediately snapped back at me saying "All fish have bones." I was stunned at her response, and was taken back as she looked at me like I didn't know fish had bones. OK, so Guy Hollerin's isn't exactly hip or edgy. It's the bar and restaurant attached to a Holiday Inn, so it's not going to appeal to 20-something hipsters. However, the few times I've gone there, the food has been decent to good, the drink specials are good, and there are free appetizers during happy hour. It's a good location for a Thursday or Friday night beer with co-workers, which is exactly why I went there. If you're looking for cheap beer and free appetizers, check them out on a weekday between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. The times I went there, they were offering $1.75 pints of domestic or Canadian beer and free chicken wings or pizza slices. If you want something more substantial from the menu, the "Macho Nachos" are good, as is the pasta dish they call "Guido's Veggie Primavera." Note: The closing hours listed are for the kitchen only. Definitely not good. Here twice from staying at the hotel next door. Wouldn't ever go if the Residence Inn had a bar. First time, was busy but had to beg to get service. Then had to beg to get frozen bar food that was bland AF. Then had to beg to play keno. This was around 9pm. Want a water with your beer? Forget it. Week later I'm back. Same staff, but this time at 6pm. Bar was full. Great prices on draft beer is all they have going for them besides being the only place around. Bartender has molasses on her shoes. Waitress seems like she'd rather be anywhere but here, but was friendly. She couldn't run keno. She was unsure if she was allowed to turn on the Tiger game. I know this is a hotel bar but damn, it could be so much better. It's not busy but I have to beg for any service at all. Would have had more to drink but unless you're at the bar, forget it. Opted for convenience with the in-hotel restaurant after a long day of traveling. The bar area was full so my wife and I sat in the dining room area. We waited for quite a while before the bartender came over to us, which was fine she was busy mixing cocktails we were just hangry and in need of a drink. I caught the "this place is not going to be good" vibe and thought the $16 burger would be the safer bet for dinner. The bartender asked how I'd like it done, and I asked for medium, which usually implies that the burger isn't going to be a junky frozen patty, it was. It was only edible because I hadn't eaten since early in the morning, but it was a thin, very burnt frozen patty with no type of condiment to help moisten the dry. The fries were fine. My wife got the chicken sandwich, and it was of similar quality. We honestly would have been better off Doordashing fast food. Also, the restaurant is located very close to the front desk/lobby area. We sat down around 6pm and someone was vacuuming the lobby for a good half hour and it added to an already not great atmosphere. Pretty atrocious customer service, from hotel and restaurant. I called at 3:30pm to ask about happy hour specials, but was given a recording which says they are open 6:30 am to 10pm. I called the hotel front desk instead, to ask about the specials, where I was told the restaurant doesn't open until 4pm. I asked if she could tell me about the specials, to which she replied, "I told you they don't open until 4pm, I wouldn't know that." Ok cool, thanks a ton. I called back just after 4pm, no answer. I keep coming here because my son loves the pool in the hotel. However the bar and grille always disappoints. It's Ohio vs MI game day and there's two servers on staff. Allow me to reiterate what others who have come before me have proffered: this place is meh. I showed up for Friday Happy Hour to check out a friend of mine's band. I was easily the youngest person there. Not even close. And I'm 32. I was excited when I found out I could get a 22oz Oberon for $4, but is it worth it when you're expecting to hear "B-37? B-37?" "Bingo!" the entire time? And the sound in this place? Geez. It couldn't be worse for a live band. I feel bad this place gets such bad reviews and I hated that I looked on Yelp prior to eating here as it made me very critical. The bartender was attentive and good with everyone by me. She made specific recommendations based on what she orders there. The younger servers were helping train in a new server and were so eager to help her learn. They all walked by several times and were polite and friendly. Maybe the bar seating is where it's at? I was hesitant about ordering the crab cakes, but I was in the mood for them & bartender "seconded" my choice. Now, the food wasn't necessary outstanding, but it did have good flavor and cooked properly. My problem was portion size - ridiculously large. I'd rather get knocked off my seat because it wowed me that much - and leaving me scraping my plate clean wanting more - than pushing half of the plate back at them. Especially silly when most of the clientele is in there since it's in the hotel and not dealing with leftovers. But I did really want to try the strawberry shortcake. So glad I pushed it away. (Plus stacking crabcakes - 3 of them no less - made the nice char they did have get soggy as the time passed.) Massive size once again, but not bad. All in all, the staff was trying and the cook did a nice job. More focus on quality ingredients and less on quantity would go a long way here. read more

What an awful experience from the "management" of this restaurant. We stopped in for some drinks and food after a Michigan football game since we were staying nearby and our hotel didn't have a bar, and we wanted to watch the MSU/Oregon game. Our server was great - very attentive despite how crazy busy they were, and the food was decent, not great, bar food (we just had appetizers...). Where it went all down hill was when the band came on. They had a live jazz band that was decent but we weren't really paying attention. In fact, because of the location of the TV I had my back to the band so I could see the game. But my gripe isnt about them having a band or even the band itself....it was the manager. She came around while we were eating soliciting cover charge since they had a band - despite the fact we had already been sitting there for about an hour or so and were wanting to watch the game. Then when I went to the restroom (which is in the hotel lobby, outside of the bar) and came back she stopped me at the door and said I had to have a stamp to get in or pay cover to get a stamp. I explained to her I was already there eating and drinking and watching the game and not interested in the band. She again tried to get me to pay to which I said, well if you dont let me back in I guess I can't pay my bill. I just walked past her but the entire experience should have never happened. Something shady going on here making me wonder if this manager gets a cut of the cover charges or something - because she could've cared less that we were spending about $100 at one of her tables. read more

This place is really the lounge for the Holiday Inn. They advertise it as if it were a freestanding bar or club. Nothing wrong with that, but it can fool you if you walk in expecting the same kind of crowd you would see in one of the downtown pubs and clubs. I met a friend for a beer at Guy Hollerin's because it was close to where he was working, but I've never been back, because it was sort of bland. I got the sense that people go to the bar because they're trapped at the hotel and they have nothing to do. Plus the music was way too loud. Oh boy where do I start. Let me start by saying the only reason I gave them a three star is because the poor waitress that worked today was by herself and not only waiting on the dining room but I saw her head out with room service. We started by ordering the spin dip and ten minutes later we were asked by I'm assuming the cook how bad we really wanted it ??? You see it was frozen and would be awhile. We opted for the French onion and chowder soups and they were just fine. When the waitress was done running room service we finally ordered and our sandwiches were not bad at all. Like I said she was great The bar was packed with a bunch of drunken idiots (and I'm no prude, plus I am the GM of a restaurant) screaming and yelling to see who could look like the bigger jackass. Let's start here: their happy hour is BOSS. From the industrial complexes south of 94 to the upscale dives littering contemporary downtown, you will not find a better happy hour in Ann Arbor. Half-priced apps, and if you cut the crap and order the large-and-in-charge nacho volcano situation, you will be eating a FANTASTIC fucking dinner for about $5.50. Pair that with some delicious domestic drafts at $1.50 or well drinks for $1 off their already low prices and you will be swimming in slightly inebriated happiness all night for $10 or less. Now let's discuss the waitstaff. They are a CREW. Whoever does the lunch shift, older guy with moustache, he's a bit of a character. Now, I will caveat this: I was going to Guy Hollerins during lunch breaks at a fancy conference situation, and I was on a time crunch. GHs was not amenable to my time schedule at all. The moustache guy was a little overwhelmed and thus slow in getting food and checks (although the drinks came tout de suite). In addition, the first day my waitress didn't bring me any soup after I ordered the soup, salad and garlic bread lunch. So right let's talk about the general ridiculousness of that lunch: 2 slices of bread, a cup of soup, but then a CANYON-SIZED bowl of salad. More salad than you usually get when you order a family-sized salad at a normal restaurant. BEWARE of that shit, because if you get "there are starving children in Africa" guilt like I do, you are not gonna know how to handle that beast of a salad. Anyways, I am glad as hell I got to see the inside of GH for my 4-day stint at the Holiday Inn. Really comically bad. First, the service is abysmal. I dont blame the staff who seemed friendly enough, its really the manager who needs to be replaced. While they appear to be overstaffed, we've had horrendous service in 2 of our 3 visits. First time we waited over half an hour for breakfast when the restaurant was 90% empty yet servers were abundant. Also nobody came back to check on us so I had to go track someone down when I wanted to add a coffee. Second time, I took a seat at the end of the bar in the evening, waiting to order a pint. After sitting there for 10 minutes and being completely ignored by all the servers (who just pretended I didn't exist as they walked back and forth around me), I just got up and left and went across the street to carsons to get a beer Also, we only ate breakfast, but the food was awful (which was an added insult to injury considering how long we waited). The coffee tasted like watered down Folger, ugh. I ordered yogurt with granola. Accustomed to ordering this elsewhere and getting a nicely presented bowl of yogurt with homemade or similar granola, instead here I got a plastic cup of lowfat Yoplait (I think it was Yoplait, with the foil wrapper) and a beaten up box of Kelloggs granola that were both tossed in front of me. We are staying at the holiday inn next door and ordered room service not knowing anything about the restaurant. We were told our order would be 30 mins and after 40 mins my wife called and asked what the situation was. Unfortunately they had got the room number wrong and as nobody answered they took the food back. They apologized and recooked our order in about 15 minutes. Not only was the food very good and the girl who brought it a sweetheart but they halved our bill for a very genuine mistake on their part. I dont know what all the bad reviews are about. I was very impressed considering this was a restaurant attached to a hotel.I ate here for almost every meal during my three day sstay and I didnt have a bad meal the whole time. And coming from NY the prices were very very reasonable. I'd like to give particular props to the bartender Lori who handled every customer with grace and dignity ! I also really enjoyed the funny descriptions for all the menu items. Again, I seriously question some of the nevative reviews. I wish I could give it negative stars...we walk in and the sign says seat yourselves. I look to my left and I see a sign that says section closed we walk further into a the restaurant and see my father in-law has saved us a table next to another group of people. He had gotten there about 9:45 pm. We walked in around 9:55. As soon as we sit down the manager comes over and tells us the section is closed. PHard to believe since there were people eating there in that section and a lack of a sign saying this section is closed. Then she goes on to tell us the kitchen is closed.....at 10:00 pm. She refused to acknowledge that we were in the restaurant before 10 waiting for service. We left.... it was evident they didn't care about the guests. After reading the reviews on here I see us not eating here as a blessing due past experiences of food poisoning and sheer disappointment. As we pull out of the restaurant we see the staff outside smoking cigarettes. Just terrible terrible service. Worst I've seen in a long time if not the worst I've ever seen. Where is the owner????? If they cared about there investment at all they would read these reviews and hopefully decide its time for a change at management...please listen to these reviews and go eat somewhere else.
