Ararat Bakery is a gem. They offer many wide varieties such as imported feta and other middle eastern goods. They have teas, jams, fresh lavash and the BEST Barbari bread. I came once on a Sunday and the Barbari was being purchased by the truckloads. The owners are very friendly and always are helpful if you should have any questions. I enjoy checking out all their options and can get lost exploring all their products and finding niche items you don't see at our local supermarkets. read more

The man working was very friendly and helpful, he's Persian and I believe said the owner was too, they are known for their giant freshly cooked bread. Given the name and some searches I thought this was an Armenian bakery, and wished they had some Armenian staples but that was my mistake :-) they did have some packaged lavash (not made there) and some really good parsley and cheese pastries in filo dough that reminded me of boreg. Glad I was able to get my favorite sour cherry jam, Ayran mint yogurt drinks, homemade torshi liteh, and pomegranate molasses for my cooking. I was looking for a local bakery that had some different types of freshly baked goods. I stopped in here today and saw that they have a big selection for a small place. The staff was helpful answering my questions and I bought four different things to try. I got the large flatbread, sesame seed cookies, sesame bread rings (we call them koulouri in Greek) and these spinach filled puff pastries. All together it was about $30 something. It is a little pricey but the quality is great and you are supporting a local business. I just wish that they had the price of things on the item but that's my only complaint. I wanted to try Iranian flat bread with creams, so I drove there for the first time. It was very easy access, right by the LIE, I parked in front of the store. 15 minutes for the quarter. The owner there was very friendly, he explained so much about their product. Someone like him is very nice when you have no idea what they offer. I will update about the baked stuffs after I try all the stuffs. *Update after trying everything. (Day after my purchase) The Iranian bread and milk cream was super yummy. I really loved it. I will come back to this place only for those. The one big thing I was disappointed was my Tahini bread had a green molds growing in the center. So what is that mean? As other yelpers, I thought they offer freshly baked goods but if they don't sell, they keep it on sale after a day or even a few? The temperature recently going up so it must affect bread to go bad easily, but I was so sad that I had to threw the Tahini bread, that I payed like five dollars. read more

I drove past this place for years, and I wish I kept driving. I spent about $36 here, and maybe 10% of what I bought was worth it. Nothing had a price tag so I don't know what cost what. Since I was so excited about finally shopping here, I let that slide. I should have asked, now I will. I bought tahini bread since I read here that it was good, but mine was hard and really, really dry. Warming it up helped a little. There was also baklava, which I then realized did not have any honey in it, but corn syrup. Not cool, and it wasn't very good. I also got lahmajun (props to them asking if I wanted fresh or frozen), but most of them were molding. I got the fresh ones and I'll admit that I walked with them for a couple of hours, but I never expected that many to go bad. There was also a bread that reminds me of Iranian Sangak. I had better in Great Neck honestly, so this was a disappointment as well. The only good thing I had on this whole trip was spanikopita, and I even think that was good was because I walked two miles to get and was really hungry. Such as shame, I was so excited to finally go here, and I wish I never came. read more

Mt. Ararat is a wonderful place to find lovely, hard-to-find baked goodies. Items that are baked on premise include barbari bread, pita bread, raisin loaves and even spanakopita. (Come early if you want the good stuff!) They also sell goods from other bakeries and factories, including baklava, almond cookies, walnut cookies, pistachio nougats, Lebanese ice cream, etc. Savory items include various nuts and dried fruit by the pound, fresh feta cheese by the block and olives too! I've also bought some spices, oil and other ingredients here as well. My favorite however is the Tahini Bread. I believe they subscribe to the theory of keeping things simple and true to the original recipe because I see that their the tahini bread lists only flour, sugar, tahini, cinnamon and corn oil as its ingredients. (Does that mean it's vegan??) And my are they generous with the tahini! Mmm mmm! Two round discs over 6 inches wide and laced with sweet crunchy tahini (ground sesame paste) throughout .... heeeaaven! At only $4.99! :) The Lebanese (?) ice cream they have there is sold by the pint... it's not in a beautifully packaged container, but ingredients include rose water and cardamon. I think it's lovely... my friends think it's strange to eat things that taste like flowers. If you swing by, you can park on the street if you come outside of rush hour... or you can make a right turn at Springfield and pull into the back parking lot behind CTown and then it's just a little further down. Just be careful walking out of the tiny driveway to the bakery... it's narrow and it's New York. I don't know when it opens, but it does close by 8PM on weekdays. This is our local bakery and it's awesome. They have a wide selection of breads that are made on the premises. The barbari is perfect to have with gravies or to cut up and use as a flat bread with sandwich fillings. The pitas are available in white or whole wheat and in a small and large size. My personal favorite bread though is the Zaatar (sumac powder with sesame seeds) bread. They run out often so try and get there in the morning hours. They have fresh feta both french and bulgarian. Their olive bar is extensive and the staff is helpful and alert. If you're heading home or just out to the beaches and are driving on the LIE (towards Long Island) take the Springfield Avenue exit. The bakery is on the same road just a few meters after the ramp - drop by grab some bread, fresh feta and olives along with some hummus or other dip and get back on the freeway. You won't regret it - that's if you can keep your hands off the bread and it actually makes it to your destination. read more

They offer imported baked goods as well as imports of diary and frozen foods that are not found in most grocery stores with excellent coffees and teas, the best dried fruit and locally prepared specialty foods. Love this place! Haven't been there in over 20 years, since i moved away from NY. Still amazingly good. Barberi bread tastes exactly like i remember.
