As this hotel is known from its historical presence, we have decided to stay here for our first time at Waikiki Beach. This hotel is centrally located in Waikiki beach. When you step out your door front, aka the lobby, you are in the midst of all the action. As this hotel is so centrally located it is popular for guest and visitors who come to visit the history of this hotel. We were visiting during the shoulder season, so we expected the hotel to be quiet. Some hotel management quote that hotels are only 30 percent full during late September. This hotel seemed busy and perhaps its due to the tight quarters. Given this hotel is centered around a tree, the bar and eatery space is tight--The mass amount of people in a tight space can seem unrelaxing to some. Upon checking in, we were also questioning ourselves, if we were really there during the shoulder season as there was a line at 2pm. And the Bonvoy line was the longest. As that line seemed long, we decided we better split up and stand in two lines. Despite the line being long, it went quickly. We appreciated that! And for Japanese guest there is a special line- Hawaii gets a lot of guests from HI. Our room was not ready yet, so we saddle up at the bar. We grabbed a drink, and before too long our room was ready. We left our luggage with the bell boy, and he brought it up when ready. We identify our room as ready by the app, before we got the phone call. We were informed that we had a nice suite waiting for us- We waited patiently for the elevators- lines can develop at the tower elevators. Once we got into the elevator- we were hot- I am not sure if the elevators have AC-- or if it was due to the number of people smooshed into the elevator. Our room was on the 20th floor at the end-- And it was a treat! Our suite had two balconies-- one that looked like it hung over the ocean and the other facing the Diamond head and the city. The room also has a mini bar with a fridge and microwave, a dining room table, a living room, a bedroom with a super comfy bed-- westin style, and a bathroom. The room was very modern. The historical charm of the centered part of the hotel does not carry over to the suites. The room was great due to the amazing views and balconies. I would select this room again for the views alone. The disappointment was the bathroom- the room features a bathroom that seemed slightly outdated. The bathroom only had a small shower and no bathtub. As for outside space- The beach in front of this hotel is not very big. This is partially due to storms. If you are looking for a beach with more depth from the hotel to the ocean- you may want to go to the Hawaiian village. The water is a bit rougher here too- good for surfing-- also it was storm season. As for the pool- skip the pool and go into the beautiful clear ocean. The pool is a joke-- it is so small. If you look at other hotel along the ocean, you will see most hotels are very small. The other sad thing is the lack of lounge chairs- there are minimal number of chairs for guest- and guest save them early. The chairs on the beach are for rent-- I think the hotel should provide more lounge chairs- but again space is lacking around this hotel. As for food- as Marriott ambassadors we were provide two breakfast meals per a day at the main restaurant or cafe. This first day we went to the restaurant and offered a choice of three continental breakfast items- the offer was sad as the food was horrible. Does this represent their lunch and dinner menu? To upgrade to the buffet- it was 32 dollars extra. The hotel's breakfast buffet is about 55 dollars- yikes! Not worth it. Service was great. The cafe, take away, was a better option- where we could spend a total of 40 dollars- breakfast sandwiches are on the menu. As you are at the beach- there is a lot of noise around the hotel- you hear music at this hotel plus all the hotel along the beach- so just be prepared for this- join in or bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. Also, this hotel charges a resort fee that is over 50 dollars- the resort fee includes programs, towels, gym, etc. When checking in, the amenities were not really shared with us. We were not even told where the gym was. So I am not sure if they have a good gym for those who like to work out. Lastly, the staff at the hotel is wonderful!! A big shout out to the housekeepers who were always friendly and did a great job. And to the staff in the lobby who always helped me find my way around the hotel- to the point of almost taking me to my destination. So was it worth the price? Depends on what you see value in?!

The valet staff was friendly and efficient and everyone we interacted with was welcoming. Unfortunately, the room didn't match what I'd expect from a Hyatt Regency. There was a leaking bathroom faucet, a chipped sink, rust and water damage around the bathroom door, dark buildup around the shower fixture, heavily stained blackout curtains, visible dust and debris under the bed and dark spotting inside the bathroom vanity where clean towels were stored. The room also had numerous scuffs, patched walls and signs of deferred maintenance throughout. The location and staff saved the stay, but the condition of the room fell well below the standard I'd expect from this brand, especially at this price point.

Review: Beautiful property with lovely touches, but rigid service and poor beach access fell short…read moreWe recently completed our first trip to Honolulu, staying at the Halekulani while nearly seven months pregnant and traveling with our 3.5-year-old. As many mention, the property itself is pristine--calm, spotless rooms, excellent toilets, and comfortably sized showers and tubs. The nightly turndown treats from housekeeping (ranging from chapstick to custom coasters) were a delightful detail we looked forward to each evening. Breakfast was included and decent, though it skews heavily toward traditional Japanese options. As a pregnant guest, I was a bit disappointed by the lack of basics like oatmeal, and the requested toast turned out to be basic white bread. We encountered some exceptional team members. Donna at the front desk was wonderfully warm, remembering my son's name from our second day. A lovely woman at the pool with very long hair and a gentleman who plays in a band were also fantastic--he consistently helped us set up cabanas so I could stay out of the direct sun. Unfortunately, two major issues significantly impacted our stay: * Unprofessional Pool Management: The pool manager (who did not wear a nametag) was surprisingly rude. After another attendant helped us secure a shaded cabana the day prior to ensure I had sun protection while watching my son play, the manager confronted me about "saving" cabanas. Considering the hotel was not full, the aggressive tone taken with a heavily pregnant guest was completely unwarranted and unlike anything I've experienced at a property of this tier. * Misleading Beachfront Experience: The hotel advertises itself as a beachfront resort, but the accessible beach area is extremely minimal with choppy water. Between the lack of loungers or shade and the large Mai Tai catamarans constantly docking right next door, swimming isn't practical, nor is relaxing on the sand if you need sun relief. We truly wanted to love our stay, but given the premium price point, the combination of poor beach access and an unnecessarily hostile interaction at the pool left us thoroughly disappointed.

Minh, the front desk, was helpful, friendly, and made us feel so taken care of. Michael, our pool waiter, was efficient and friendly. He worked the entire day (double shift from morning to 10pm) and still had a smile at the end of day. Mr. Mark, the resident cultural teacher at the Ao Cultural Center, took the time to educate us about the native Hawaiian culture with such grace and Aloha. He taught us how to create a traditional Ti-leaf Kupe'e bracelet and even gave my daughter and I authentic Hawaiian names, KaNoeau (The Wise One) and KaUauluwehi (Waterfall of Abundant Nature). The Outrigger Reef Waikiki is more than a hotel. It is a magical experience full of Aloha with outstanding staff that creates an atmosphere that is irreplaceable!!! That's Kuya right there…read more IYKYK Arrived in Oahu from LA around 9am, and check-in is typically at 3pm so I was expecting to just drop off luggage and wait until then. However, Ambrose said he'd see what he could do and was able to get my boyfriend and I a room early. We've been to Oahu several times but this was our first time staying at Outrigger. Our room was awesome (clean and spacious with a lot of closet and cabinet space) and the balcony came with a pretty good view. It was nice to have some poke and beers on there. You can even cast shows from your phone onto the TV which I appreciated. Location is so convenient and walkable to a lot of restaurants and shopping places and the beach. Yes it is super touristy but that's Waikiki for you. Although we only stayed for one night (on our way to Japan), I appreciated seeing all the activities that Outrigger offers on the schedule that they provide for you at check-in. A restaurant called Monkeypod is conveniently located within the building and they have the best maitais. It's super helpful that an ABC store is also located within the vicinity to grab snacks, drinks, and some souvenirs. Overall the place is really nice and the staff is so welcoming and kind. Would definitely love to stay here again!

This visit included a fantastic Diamond Reserve welcome, an ocean-view upgrade, and Friday night fireworks enjoyed from our private balcony, cocktails in hand! Five stars, without hesitation! The Details: I've been coming to the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort since the 1990s, and I absolutely LOVE this place! In fact, even when I lived in Hawaii back in the '90s, I'd occasionally treat myself to a staycation here. There's just something special about this resort that keeps bringing me back, decade after decade! We just arrived for another wonderful visit, this time for 12 days! We're combining a business trip and convention next week with two extended weekends of enjoying everything Waikiki and Honolulu have to offer. Not a bad way to mix business with pleasure! My wife will be hard at work the whole time...! (On her tan) ;-) This visit was particularly memorable because I recently achieved Hilton's new Hilton Honors Diamond Reserve status. Upon checking in, the wonderful lady behind the counter noticed my status, raised her eyebrows, and exclaimed, "Wow! You're the first person I've met who's achieved that status! Congratulations, and welcome to Hawaii!" What a fantastic way to begin our vacation! Even better, we received a beautiful upgrade to an ocean-view room with sweeping vistas of the Pacific Ocean, Waikiki Beach, and iconic Diamond Head. And as luck would have it, our balcony was perfectly positioned for the resort's famous Friday night fireworks! Rather than fighting the crowds gathered along the beach, we enjoyed the entire show from the peaceful comfort of our private balcony, cocktails in hand, watching the fireworks explode against the night sky above the Pacific Ocean. Absolutely spectacular! It's moments like these that remind me why I've loved this property for more than three decades. Another thing that makes the Hilton Hawaiian Village so special is its incredible location. You're right in the heart of the action, with easy access to Waikiki's restaurants, shopping, nightlife, and attractions, yet the resort itself feels like an entire tropical village. There are numerous restaurants, bars, pools, beautifully landscaped grounds, and one of the biggest advantages of all: a huge, beautiful stretch of beachfront right outside the resort! Unlike many other Waikiki hotels, where beach access can be limited or crowded, the Hilton Hawaiian Village enjoys an exceptional beachfront setting. It's also a surprisingly convenient location for business travelers, including those visiting military installations around Honolulu & Joint Base Hickham Pearl Harbor. I've always appreciated being able to handle business during the day and return to what feels like a Hawaiian vacation in the evening! After more than 30 years of visiting, I can confidently say the Hilton Hawaiian Village remains one of my favorite places to stay in Hawaii. The atmosphere, location, amenities, spectacular ocean views, and wonderful memories keep bringing me back. One day we walked in our room and couldn't tell that it had been cleaned aside from making the bed. However, when we requested towels they came immediately. We needed a band aid and had to have security come. I thought that was thorough but the security guy was not very friendly. The bathrooms could use some updating but it did the job. Very great access to the beach. Was decent for traveling with family.

I am beyond grateful that even though we had to deal with craziness of the hurricane, this hotel was the bright spot in our day. Cleanliness was also good. You go farther North and you're at Ala Moana park. So the room was nice. The view was nice. The staff was helpful and friendly. So why the 3-star review? All because of the parking situation at this hotel. First off they charge you a ridiculous $47 a day to park!! Not only that but parking is extremely limited. The hotel is 30 floors tall but the parking garage is only 5 floors. So if you go out during the day you'd better be back early or you won't have a spot when you get back in the evening, especially on the weekends. They will valet your car for free if the parking lot is full, but then you have to tip the guy. If they have the room to valet your car if the lot is full, then they have enough space for you to be able to park your car. The gym was pretty basic but you could get a decent workout in. The pool was decent with a nice little infinity pool area.

The gym is well maintained and has weights, a Peloton, one treadmill, an exercise bike, and two ellipticals. My only wish is that the gym was larger and had a wider variety of exercise equipment. Overall, Hokulani is a comfortable, convenient, family-friendly place to stay, and we always look forward to coming back. Pro tip: you can only ask for a later checkout the day of at 6:00AM. I wish I would have known sooner. Checkout is 10:00AM, late checkout is an hour later at 11:00AM. The receptionist told us all the checkout spots were taken, but was nice enough to let us stay till 10:30AM.

The bathroom is also very spacious with double sinks, a center vanity, a soaking tub, a separate shower, and bidet-equipped toilets. Housekeeping is provided on a designated day during your stay, so don't expect daily service. If you need extra items, the hotel offers a nice selection upon request, including yoga mats, kids' teepee tents, bathrobes, humidifiers, and other amenities. We didn't need additional toiletries, but it's convenient to have a Longs Drugs and ABC Store right downstairs if you forget anything. Parking is valet only and costs $50 per night, so keep that in mind if you're renting a car. Overall, Hilton Hokulani is a great choice if you're looking for a comfortable, well-appointed hotel in an unbeatable Waikiki location.
