Aqua float is a nice day spa to visit especially during these cold winter months. I booked a 60 minute session in the Deluxe Floating Room 3. The room was nice and had available a robe, earplugs, Vaseline for open wounds, makeup remover and shower with soap's provided. The Floating Room was really nice with its own separate section and door with a neck pillow and adjustable switches for the lights and music, I love the galaxy lights!! The facility was very nice and clean with a waiting area and as well a vanity area. Very cool experience! I had read about floating pods before and figured I'd try it. I booked a one-hour float. As a first-timer, the staff were super helpful and walked me through the entire process - showering beforehand, recommending wax earplugs, and that it was up to me whether or not I wanted to close the pod or not. I was asked if I wanted music and I honestly didn't know. They asked me if I was someone who liked working or sleeping with some noise in the background, music might be a good idea and that I could turn it off later if I wanted. I am not someone who gets claustrophobic easily so I closed the pod and turned off the underwater light. It was a very new but cool experience to be surrounded by darkness. After maybe 10-15 minutes of wondering if I could spend an hour in the pod, I kind of dozed off. Like other reviewers, I woke with a start right before my session ended. I did feel super calm and light afterwards - as if I had gotten a massage. Definitely bring your own comb if you have long hair. The changing room has a blowdryer and the facility also has towels available. I really enjoyed the whole atmosphere of the place - it was just peaceful and positive. I'm unsure if I'd be a regular, but I do think maybe doing a few floats a year when I need to reset would be great. read more

I had my first float last year so I was glad to find a place in Charlottesville to try. This is a guarantee remedy for all your physical ailments. It's just you and the tank, your body works on fixing itself without meds. After every float I feel like a new person and all of the aches and pains are gone. First time experience with the salt pod float. They have really thought through all the details and explained everything really well - from the wash cloth on the handle of the pod, water spray bottle inside the pod, earplugs, to the flotation device for your head to rest on. Ever since I moved to Charlottesville in 2020 I have been searching for a place that offers hot stone massages. I found Aqua Float by word of mouth of a coworker. I've had hot stone massages by Bailey and she's amazing! She's attentive and thorough and asks which areas need more work. I'm a nurse and on my feet 12 hours a day so I treat myself to a 90minute hot stone massage once in awhile. Now that I've found Bailey at Aqua Float I schedule a massage more often! Ah, getting away from it all! Literally. Floating is an amazing way to relax, meditate, and recharge. It is, for me, the opposite of yoga, which I also love. Whereas yoga disciplines the mind with the focus on desired positions and postures while focusing your breathing, emptying the mind of all other pursuits, floating removes all such stimulations. You float in a pool of highly salinated water, with no sound, no appreciable skin stimulus, no sound.... you are alone with your breath and your thoughts. Free to relax, free to concentrate, free to drift. It is your own experience. Friends of mine who cannot cut off the mind-chatter, who spend such an opportunity going through the list of things they could otherwise be doing or have to get back to -- these friends do not enjoy floating. But for me, it is the ultimate in relaxation for 90 minutes of complete peace. You lose track of time. You lose track of stress. You just.... ARE... for this briefest of vacations. And when the session is up, soft music is piped in to help you transition back to the world. Aquafloat does floating well. Four floating tanks in private rooms, each soundproofed. CLEAN. In between clients, each tank is pumped and filtered to reset the tank for the next person. In-room showers and soft lighting. Soft towels. Ear plugs. No rush. Low stress staff to help explain the process and the amenities to newcomers. Complimentary tea and water and fruit and a comfortable area to sit and collect yourself before venturing back into the open air. An all-around great experience. The only small improvement I'd make is to add a small shelf to each room, since currently the only place to store your clothes is on the only seat/bench in the room, so when you are getting dressed you have to manage your stack to keep it out of the floor as you sit to put on socks, pants, whatever. But that is a minor point. Aquafloat also offers massage and combination packages, although I haven't taken advantage of these so I will not comment on them. Once you are in their client database, they will send notices of discounts on single float sessions and packages. I usually stock up on a few at Christmas time, since they do not ever expire. And you can always transfer a credit to a friend without a hassle. I live over 60 miles from Aquafloat, and pass a local provider of floating sessions on my way out of my town. Aqua Float is a totally different kind of spa or wellness center than my husband and I have ever visited - more focused on individual meditation and healing rather than a social experience we could share with each other and friends. We spent 90 minutes in individual rooms within enclosed tanks, each boasting more than 800 pounds of saltwater with a little ambient lighting. First impressions: *It looks like a space ship or a device from some sci-fi, futuristic film. *I need to be extra careful not to accidentally rub my eyes with salt as it will burn. *I will probably get bored, but this is supposed to be healing so I'm going with the flow. Afterward: *I fell asleep half-way through and woke up with a start as it took me a minute to re-orient myself. I also started to feel a bit claustrophobic so I opened the lid of tank a bit. *I was incredibly thirsty - downing two water bottles immediately. *After showering off all the salt, my skin felt amazingly smooth and I was glowing. *When Michal and I met up in the lounge, we helped ourselves to complimentary fruit, lemon-infused water and tea while reading a few materials on the benefits of floating, as well as journaling/doodling. This time helped with extending the relaxation experience and alleviated my dehydration. *I felt a boost in my mood and energy level that lasted me through the day. Would I do it again? Probably not unless there is another LivingSocial deal - We paid $29 each for what normally costs $60 each. Also - the length of the session seemed a bit too long to me as I did get a bit stir-crazy in that tank. However, I like finding unique, local spots like this and will now consider doing my Epsom salt baths at home as I love the way my skin feels afterward. This was also a very calming, restorative experience that I would recommend if you're having a stressful or anxious week, as it truly helped me to quiet my mind. read more

Staff were great, wait time was minimal, atmosphere is lovely. I had never floated before but felt pretty chill going in. The 45-minute massage I got first was helpful, but not the best massage I've had. Staff explained what floating was all about then let us go to it. I did feel a little claustrophobic at first, and it is startling to find yourself floating and not have this innate understanding of where your body is in space. But once I taught myself where the lights were and let myself fully relax, it was a great experience. I emerged feeling extremely calm and my skin was incredibly soft. Do note: salt will build up and dry on your chest while you're floating. This feeling is really strange at first, but it's not a problem. Also: I used the gummy ear plugs they give you after having read that salt can get stuck in your ears. These didn't work well enough. I ended up using the neck pillow to float after my ears kept crackling. I washed out my ears really thoroughly...but there was still loud crackling for about *a week* afterward from the dried salt. There was no pain, and I was warned. It was just weird. Be aware, and enjoy! read more

Really cool experience. I've never done any type of "floating" or sensory deprivation before, but I thought I'd give it a try just because it's close to where I live and someone I know tried it and really liked it. The building itself is beautiful, like a spa, and the owner gave me the run down since I was new. I'm not the meditative or yogi type, but I found the whole experience to be very relaxing and worthwhile. The pods themselves are much larger than I expected and once you're inside with no light, they seem massive. I just focused on breathing and let my mind drift, and the time kind of melted away. I found myself in that feeling when you are heading to sleep and you flirt with sleepiness and lucidity. After my float, I was noticeably more relaxed and had more of a sensitivity to stimuli, like music, than before. Usually I drive with music on, but I kept it off for the ride home to contribute to my mindful experience. I'd definitely do this again. This spot is particularly nice and the owner really knows his stuff. Give it a try. read more

As you walk into the door the overall calm aesthetic of the space allows you to begin to relax, breathe and enjoy. It is very clean, staff are warm and welcoming. There is hot tea, filtered water, books to peruse as you either wait (briefly) for your turn or afterwards. There is no rush here. Floating is a unique experience for each person. I have a degenerative spine condition and I'm always in pain. The medication I was on is no longer available and my mobility and quality of life has decreased substantially. I found AquaFloat in a web search, so I thought I'd try it. It was amazing! While I was in the pod, I felt like I was floating in zero gravity and I was pain free! I realized I had forgotten what it's like to be without pain. The owner and staff were fabulous and very accommodating. It was a great experience from the time I walked in the door until I left. I did a "float" and it was remarkable. It was unlike anything I had experienced before, except maybe that little 9 month float I did in utero many years ago. AquaFloat was an excellent facility...relaxing, friendly and impeccably clean. I have a friend who is recovering from serious heart problems and I gave him a "float" as a "get well" gift. An enjoyable experience in a clean and peaceful environment. It was the first time I've ever indulged in sensory deprivation and it will not be the last. I was concerned that I would feel claustrophobic but the tanks are large and I didn't give it another thought as I floated my way to the most calm I've ever felt. This relaxed state is with me still and my husband noticed how I was glowing after exiting the spa. This is not something he would normally engage in, but he will be taking his maiden voyage tomorrow. I know that this will become part of our natural health regime and we will become regular floaters. Give it a try, you won't be sorry and your skin will feel amazing. These guys are awesome. I used the infrared sauna multiple times a week for about six months (incredibly helpful for pain relief). The staff is always friendly, and they are always responsive to questions or feedback. When the sauna was having some minor issues, they made sure it was fixed right away. AquaFloat is so much better than in Chicago where I floated twice, many years ago. The experience is the same, but here every details seems thought of and high quality items were chosen in products - including the floatation beds. Chicago's weren't as nice. I treated 2 friends this Saturday. 1 friend had the experience of a lifetime, the other was not able to enjoy like we do/did. I highly recommend AquaFloat. I have been going here for about a year.
