I visited Love Face & Body Spa (bought & rebranded) for the first time yesterday for a facial. I originally had booked the Advanced Renewal facial but my esthetician Kayelyn actually said I didn't need that exact facial because my skin is still young as I'm not yet in my 30s. She instead recommended I do the YonKa dry skin facial which is actually cheaper than what I originally booked. I love that she picked what would be best for my skin without trying to upsell a more expensive facial. I'm not well versed in skin care so I really liked that Kayelyn walked me through everything she was doing and the reasons why. Most times you just lay there in silence and while I do like sometimes to just relax and fall asleep, I really appreciated the skin care education and I was still able to relax as well. But I feel like I have a better idea of what my skin needs and how I can achieve it. The only reason I'm rating this 4.5/5 stars is because I normally like some lip care during my facials and this was lacking that. I really liked the essential oil toner she used and ended up purchasing it afterwards. The scent is heavenly and made my skin feel great. I normally don't purchase skin care products after my facials but I really liked the YonKa brand products she used on my face. You should definitely head over to Love Face & Body Spa and have Kayelyn give you a facial! You won't regret it. read more

I've had multiple massages here and they have been fantastic and reasonably priced. I was so excited to return a few weeks ago. However, I was really disappointed with my most recent experience. I heard there was new management, so perhaps that was reason. I showed up on time, but due to a number of people checking out and checking in, I settled into my room more than 10 minutes late. My massage was actually really good, but it ended more than 10 minutes early - which ultimately 20 minutes shorter than I paid for in total, given the late start. I was also charged $30 more for my massage than the rate published online ($140 for a 90 min massage). My friend went for a facial a week before me and said that her service ended more than 10 minutes early too. Overall, good massage but felt ripped off given I was overcharged $30 and the massage was cut short by ~25%. Will not be returning and for those of you who go - be really explicit on the timing / duration of your service. read more

I got my first massage at Cityspa and was delighted. The staff is very friendly, the prices are affordable, and my massage therapist did a great job. I was able to tell her the amount of pressure I liked and she hit all the right spots! I would highly recommend a full body massage here for anyone who's interested. I was really looking forward to surprising my girlfriend with a deep tissue massage at Cityspa Dayspa as it was one of the top rated in Charlottesville. I pre-paid online and we planned our weekend trip to Charlottesville, including the day's activities, around this. I was then informed 2-hours prior to the appointment that it was cancelled and would need to be rescheduled, but that I could not reschedule it because the woman calling to cancel the appointment was not at a computer. She said she would call back as soon as she could get to a computer(?) to reschedule. I asked when that would be and was told that she did not know when she would call back. It has been 48+ hours now, and I have not yet received word from the Spa, nor have I been issued a refund. I do hope the therapist is feeling better, but am disappointed with the service. Katrina' Swedish massage was firm but gentle enough not to bruise me the next day. It was so relaxing I almost drifted off! Poorly managed...They will cancel appointments last minute! I made an appointment 3 weeks out for my wife and I to have a couples massage. The Monday before our Friday appointment I was contacted and informed that they would have to reschedule our appointment. I explained to the person that we were traveling into town for her birthday getaway and that we would not be able to come some other time. I asked if there were any other options or if we could have any other services instead. The person informed me that no, they book up quickly on Fridays! I found this spa online and decided to make an appointment for a treatment based on the good reviews. I booked a massage online with Meredith to treat my mother for her 60th birthday on Friday October 29th. Not only was my mother taken back 20 min late (which then caused a domino affect for the rest of the evening that I had surprised for her which we were then late to) but once she was done with her massage she was told it was not paid for. This creates even more frustration and delay. I needed to provide my credit card information in order to book the massage online, so they did indeed have my credit card on file. My mother ended up paying for her massage herself bc they insisted it was not paid for. Later, I check my credit card statement and was indeed charged $85 for my mother's massage on the 29th, on top of my mother's credit card being charged $85 as well. I called the spa on Monday morning November 1st with no answer, and left a message explaining the situation so we could be refunded on one of our credit cards since we were double charged for a treatment that Friday. On Tuesday morning I sent an email to the address listed on the website. Wednesday, had heard nothing so Thursday morning November 4th left a voicemail with the director Suzanne Snyder. Still never got a call back or an email back so I ended up filing a credit card dispute with my credit card company for the faulty charge. What could have been a nice day and treatment, ended up being chaotic. May I mention we are from out of town about three hours away. Pretty disappointed with management here, will not be coming back next time we stay in Charlottesville. read more

My husband and I got a couples massage here recently. It was just okay, a few things were lacking. The ambiance is not very serene. We could hear other conversations going on, which was disruptive. Also, I feel if you're getting a massage, your masseuse should ask you "how's the pressure?" My masseuse didn't seem friendly or confident. I had perhaps the best massage of my life (or at least recent memory) today at Cityspa with Chase. I have been to Cityspa before and liked it but apparently never reviewed it. Anyways, today I'll take the opportunity since it was amazing. First, Chase took a few minutes to ask about me. He realized what I needed and didn't stick to a script. Second, he didn't stick to one technique but included myofacial, trigger and sports massage technique to address my needs. He spent a lot of time on my back and legs without my asking, which was exactly what I needed! Last, I really like the space there. It's quiet and tucked away yet still in the heart of town. Brazilian Wax: I am SOOOOO loving the results! I had tried nair, shaving even tweezing out ingrowns and still to no avail, I kept getting horrible results after. So I decided to try a brazilian.. At first I was skeptical because I am African-American and my hair is coarse, so I figured this would either make me bleed, or cause more ingrowns, or the people there wouldnt have much experience with my skin type. I got it done from Nicole (so far from the reviews I think shes the only one there who does this kind of work). She looks very young and fit, I thought she was a student at UVA and did this for practice.. haha more skepticism but I was very pleased!! Day 2, brand new like a baby's bottom! Pros: - Quick service. Not much wait time. - Offered drinks and hot tea. The ambiance of the spa fit the criteria. - No irritation after (didnt come out limping!) - Affordable. Full is front and back ($65) - Hygenic. Cons: - Nicole left a small patch of hair, it wasn't hard to find.. so it wasn't very thourough. I blame myself for not checking before I left. I advise anyone to check with a mirror before leaving. - As a first timer; I wasn't properly briefed on what was going to happen. - I was not given aftercare instructions. It was my first time here and I told that to her, so I had to figure it out myself on Google. - They sell products for aftercare but was sold out when I got the procedure; I was told they will call me when its in stock. Short story: this was my first Brazilian wax ever, and it was an amazing experience. I plan on returning here in the future and would definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area. Long story: I had been thinking about getting a Brazilian for some time, but could not for the life of me muster up the courage to get through it. Hot wax on my nanas? Ripping out chunks of hair down there when tweezing one or two strands already hurt like a mofo? Those were enough reasons to keep me at bay, but after New Years, I figured, "Why not?" Now was the best time to try something new! I did a bit of research and found this place, in the heart of Downtown. If you're directionally challenged like me, it's a little tucked away, but overall not hard to find. For $65, I was able to book a 30 minute appointment at 3:45p on a Thursday. You can make an appointment by phone or online; I chose to do the latter and found no discernable difficulties with the system. I can't say whether or not that this was a pricy event, since I have no experience with Brazilians at other places. The lady who waxed me was Nicole, who was nothing short of amazing. My friend (who came with me for moral support) was surprised that the whole thing took 15 minutes. 15 minutes! And my nether regions weren't done sloppily either. She was conversational, but not annoyingly so (Because I'm sorry, when you're ripping out my pubes, the last thing that I want to talk about is school or the weather). When I mentioned how warm the waxing area was, Nicole adjusted the thermostat. It might not seem like much, but it's the little things that count. She was also very understanding of the fact that it was my first time, and that there would be more pain than usual. But if I were to be frank, the Brazilian did not hurt as much as I thought it would. I nearly passed out from the first two strips, but it was golden from there on out. Made an appointment for wax and mani/pedi. As I was going in for my wax a walk in came in for a pedi. Only one woman was doing nails but they accepted the walkin, telling her it would be faster than usual. After getting the wax done, I waited for thirty minutes and the nail tech had only finished one foot. I had to leave--I was getting my wedding photos done and couldn't spend all day waiting for this. I ended up doing my nails myself. On my way out the woman said "sorry it didn't work out." I said "I probably should not have procrastinated. ". She told me "yup, waiting until the last minute never works out.". Go here for wax but not for nails. The massage seems nice enough but I was so disgusted by the service that I will never go back and recommend you save yourself the trouble as well. read more

I got the "Best Acne Treatment Facial," and my breakout -- which was the worst of my life and had persisted for several weeks -- cleared up within a few days. This may have been partially a hormonal coincidence, but the facial certainly helped. Michelle seemed knowledgeable and skilled. Disclaimer: This review is based upon my first-time experience getting a bikini wax. My wax technician was Nicole, who came highly recommended by friends in the area. I was a bit nervous, but Nicole and CitySpa's environment put me at ease. Everything was very hygienic (e.g. paper covering chair and gloves) and relaxing (e.g. music in the background). I also appreciated her guidance throughout and she gave me a bit of soothing gel for afterward. The process wasn't as painful as I thought it would be, and my skin was only slightly red/irritated for the first day. Everything went pretty quickly too. Side notes: 1) Validated parking. 2) Complimentary tea when you're waiting. 3) I've also done a pedi here with a friend - which was good but def not for a large group because there are only a couple pedis they can do at one time. I got a brazilian just before valentine's day and it was as good as a wax could be, all things considered! Nicole was really nice and laid back; I didn't feel intimidated and she made good conversation. As for the wax, I love their blend. I have stubborn hairs and a medium hard wax is way more effective and long-lasting. I had a little bruising, but it was gone in just a few hours as per usual. My skin felt great with little to no tenderness; I went to work little bit after no problem. It has been three weeks now and I am still having minimal grow back and no ingrown hairs AT ALL. A+, and very happy I already scheduled my next appointment. I would also like to note that they have latex free gloves, for those who need it. read more

I love CitySpa. First, it has couple's massages. Second, their massages are wonderful. Really gets all the kinks out and makes you feel like a new person. Third, everyone who works there is so friendly. Suzanne, the owner, is such a sweetheart too. She really takes the time to talk you through your facial. Their customer service is always great. When my facial was delayed because they were running behind and I said that my main reason for getting a facial was for relaxation, they gave me an extra hour, free of charge. Fourth, the atmosphere is very inviting. It's like a fancy renovated townhouse. Fifth, the location and price work for me. What an amazing experience my mother and I had! I decided that it would be a great Mother's Day gift for the two of us to get massages together. After doing some research on the Internet about local spa's in the area, I came found city spa and was not disappointed at all! We arrived to the appointment about 10 minutes early, something I would recommend due to parking. The location is on the downtown mall, so there is limited parking, however when we left they did ask if we needed our parking validated for the garage, something I didn't know that they did. Upon arrival, they had us fill our a one page paper to get some background information prior to our massage. FYI, when you walk in the check in desk is located on the second floor. At the time of our appointment, my mother and I were escorted downstairs into the couples room. The ambience was perfectly suited for a couple of hours for escape from the daily stresses of life. The session started with a foot massage, with a lemon scrub accompanied by a foot soak. The couch was so comfy, the robs top end and the conversation between us and our massages therapist enjoyable. The foot massage is about 30 minutes. Following the foot message we enjoyed a massage. Prior to the message portion of the package we were asked if there were any areas to focus on, I requested deep, focusing on my back and shoulders. Everything was absolutely fantastic! I was so relaxed that I feel asleep, my mother made a comment that she heard me snoring when everything was completed. I left feeling so relaxed and rejuvenated! Also, after your session you can ask your therapist if they found any knots our tightness. I would highly, highly recommend city spa, if you looking for a spa get away in the area. Due to our complaint of losing approx 30 minutes from our appointment last Valentines Day, we received a complimentary massage to make up for it. I always like it when a business makes good, so I'm thankful they took our concern seriously and made it right. We tried to go back on our anniversary but the building lost power that day. We were already in the area when we found out, and they were deeply apologetic. We came back a few days before Valentine's Day this year to avoid the rushed feeling we had last year. I adore CitySpa. I found City Spa several years ago while I was visiting home for the holidays. Karen made me feel calm and soothed within minutes of arriving and lying down on the table. She has excellent hands, a soothing demeanor, and most importantly a great sense of humor. PLUS: Karen does the BEST facials that I have ever received. My skin looked great, despite the fact that she had done a lot of extractions. Also, Karen is an excellent resource of information about skin care and products - and she does not push specific expensive products (which are mostly out of my grad school budget). Very nice atmosphere and professional staff. All the knots in my neck and the chronic back pain I get from a lot of heavy lifting become very alleviated. I've been to other spas for my back problems and this one is by far my favorite. Also good at providing me with good advice on drinking lots of water to flush toxins out and herbal remedies for pain. Many of the knots went away and my back would be fine for many months allowing me to lift and sleep better. Then I would lift too much again (even with a brace) and be in pain again. I don't live in Charlottesville but I was there at the hospital with my father for a while. I had a recurrence of lower back/hip pain and decided to try a massage to help relieve it. I scheduled a 90 minute appointment with Jessica for the next day. Jessica was amazing. She listened to my concerns and offered recommendations: one of which was to have a different type of therapy than I had made the appointment for. My massage was not relaxing, it was more like physical therapy- which is EXACTLY what I wanted. She worked on the problem areas and really loosened them up. This is the next day and I am feeling better. I think she really knows what she is doing and is an exceptional therapist. The spa itself is in what I believe was originally a house. It's very spacious and pretty and exactly what you would expect to be in downtown Charlottesville. Highly recommend! read more

So the website seems convincing of a quaint, sophisticated massage service. What we found was far from that picturesque spa. My husband and I were staying at an amazing bed and breakfast in the area for our ten year anniversary. We requested a couples massage, so to be together. What they failed to mention was that the only place to accommodate the two beds together was a small room downstairs by the front door. We got lost and were 5 minutes late, which we called to inform them of and they said it was no big deal. They cut our massage time by 10 minutes. I could deal with that since it was our fault, though I don't think that changing time and filling out forms should be deducted from your massage time. We were taken downstairs, after going all the way up (the unmarked hall/staircase) stairs to fill out the forms, asked to change, and they would return. Once the massage began it seemed ok. As the time progressed, I quickly learned that my 'therapist' was not as gentle a spirit as I'm used to from my usual therapists. The overall massage was "jerky" and didn't seem to have much flow. During the massage, the "relaxing" music kept skipping, which broke the relaxation, my husbands therapist kept walking by me and hitting my arm, the floor creaked when the ladies walked on it, and the best part was the customers walking through the front door 15 feet away and dredging up the creaky old stairs. It was by far the least relaxing massage I have ever experienced, or paid $80 for. We both left feeling a bit aggravated, and not at all feeling like the massage was therapeutic, which was its purpose. As we were checking out, my husbands lady, who we assume is a student, asked if we wanted any water. I have never been to a massage where drinking water was an option. I have always been told to drink what they give me, but it seemed an expense they perhaps were not willing to spare. Save your money and go to Massage Envy. read more

I went here for a Brazilian wax and booked with Nicole, based on previous Yelp reviews. She was really easy to talk to and the process wasn't awkward or anything. It wasn't my first time getting a Brazilian but it had been a while so the pain was still a slight shock, nothing too crazy though. I definitely plan on returning for my follow-up in 4 weeks. Although it is kind of pricey, I think it was worth it and I left happy. After she finished and gave me this oil thing to wipe the wax off with (it was reallyyyy soothing and I loved it) I noticed there was still some hair left and when I asked her to remove it, Nicole didn't fuss or anything so that really helped with my overall perception. I was expecting to be tweezed afterwards (that's how it was when I'd previously gotten waxes) but Nicole explained to me the downside to that, and also to shaving over a wax if there were any leftover hairs and all the other skin care info, which was really helpful. read more

I got a Brazilian wax from Nicole today. She was professional and nice. She asked about previous waxes and kept asking if I had any questions or concerns which made me feel comfortable with her.
