Honestly, dont waste your time. Ther service I was going for was a pedi with acrylic on my big toe (just a little) due to breakage. I couldnt even get the service I wanted because the "acrylic specialist" was busy. So I said fine no problem I could do without it. My toe nails were uneven due to previous application that required filing. Instead of fixing it and smoothing it out, she just applied polish on top and told me she was going to just square them. I just left with the base coat on, nothing more. $45 later. I didnt argue because I am not that kind of person but if you saw what I walked out with you'd ask why I even paid to begin with. Im visiting town and just wanted them to look nice while out in sandals. Now I have to find someone to fix it. read more

My nail tech was so physically aggressive with me that I started to tear up at one point and I debated leaving in the middle of the service. When paying, my nail tech leaned over my receipt and stared directly at the tip line item so I felt like I had to tip way more than I wanted to. Worst nail salon. I have given this place many chances and tried a few different techs. They are always running late, the quality varies considerably, it smells, and they have you soak your hands in acetone instead of wrapping the nails, which is incredibly toxic as you sit there breathing it in and absorbing it into your hands. This is an established small business and it's clear that owners care. It's not perfect and their version of "appointment time" is fluid at best. Plan ahead, be aware that's how they flow, and don't make it their problem if you're in a rush. Figure out who works for you and you'll likely be a happy return customer. The service started only 10 minutes past my appointment time, and although two nails needed to be redone, we got there in the end. My third appointment was just... bad. She cut my skin twice to the point that it bled, and she painted polish all over my cuticles and my skin (telling me to "just wash my hands a lot, that it would come off"). They didn't seat us next to each other, so one of us was sitting apart from the rest of us even though there were three open spaces next to one another. I didn't see anyone until 45 minutes after the reservation, didn't get an apology, she rushed through the pedicure, used items that had been previously used and hadn't been sanitized, was incredibly rude, and started cleaning up underneath me while I was trying to put my shoes on, pulling the towel from under my feet. Absolutely awful experience, and so frustrating to watch others around me get serviced and respected while I had to wait and wait and wait for the bare minimum and didn't get to spend time with my family. After calling to make an appointment for a full acrylic set and confirming that you all could do it, I had to wait for 45 minutes while people that had come in after me were helped first. THEN when I finally do get helped, you all told me that you in fact couldn't do an acrylic set. Even after I had confirmed over the phone when I made my appointment that you could. Lots of covid safety precautions in place with clear barriers between each station, and most of the equipment used seemed to be brand new from the package to ensure good sanitation. When I said the soap in the pedicure soak was burning my cuts she tells me to pull my feet out and then she sprays them with alcohol and rubs on them with a towel! Ahhhh!! Mani was not much better. Every time I come to Serenity Nails, I always leave feeling a little bit disappointed. I just went today for a gel removal and it took painfully long and they badly damaged the surface of my nails. The nail technician who was taking off my gel aggressively tried getting the gel off with a scraper and when that didn't work, she would file my nails really hard until they became too sensitive and I had to ask her to stop. It even got to the point of taking too long that she would try to use a nail cutter as a plier to try and peel off the gel...which definitely can't be the right technique/good for my nails. I understand that it was probably taking a while and she was losing patience so she wanted to cut corners, but this isn't my first experience with shoddy gel removal, and my friends can also attest to this experience. I also always feel that they never want to deny any customers and as a result, become super backed up. I came in for a gel removal around 5 PM and another girl came in for her appointment at 5:30 PM and had to wait 30 minutes for my technician to finish with me (yes, it took almost 1 hour for her to scrape off my gel) which made me feel really bad. Maybe they should try to institute a strict appointment policy so this could help alleviate the issue, given that I see a lot of walk-ins come through. Phuong, the owner, is definitely super hospitable and nice and I think they do a decent job on manicures and pedicures, but I just wish they could do a better job with gel removal and managing the time of appointments. read more

I got a gel manicure, and it was so messy and sloppy that I asked them to take it off. I came in closer to closing per the request of a front desk attendant. When I sat down I immediately got a bad feeling because the tech was watching Netflix while filing my nails. Red flag. I then proceeded to tell her she applied a nail tip on one of my nails crooked. Without looking she said it was fine. Red flag. I asked for sqare nails and she filed my nails to the point where some of them look like coffins. When it came time to try my nails she told me to put them in the small fan on the desk and not the long table that is typical of salons. She touched my nails and told me they were dry . I get into my car and notice the nail polish underneath is still wet enough to be moved around. I went back in and the same tech tried to fix the issue by applying gel polish on top of my wrinkled wet regular polish and curing it which of course did not work. I've only been here once but I was impressed with the selection of gel colors. Bradley did my gel manicure and pedicure and though I've only had it on for a day, the craftsmanship was great. There's a fine line with gels between not going to close to the cuticle and not leaving too much room at the bottom of the nail. You can see what I mean by my picture. He did great work. This is our favorite nail salon in Charlottesville! I believe the owners are a wonderful lady named Fawn ( i'm sure I spelled her name incorrectly) and her brother. They are hands-down the nicest Nail salon owners in town! All the people that work at Serenity nails are extremely skilled in their craft. They are all very friendly and accommodating. My daughter and I have been going there for quite a while and it feels like family every time we go back. We are always greeted with a Big smile and friendly attitude. They are really good at doing gel manicures and for my extra sensitive feet the pedicures are the best.
