I heard about this place from one of my good friends who did 6 treatments total here so I decided to book a consultation appointment. I was running a little late due to traffic accident and Mariko was very understanding. The place is very clean, cute and cozy. When I got there, Mariko offered me coffee, tea, or water which was nice. She also did my consultation and made me feel at ease with the whole process since this was my first time. She was honest too and helped me pick the proper treatment for me instead of just trying to get me to spend more. Since I do have dark hair, she explained my outcome will be more successful than someone who has light hair such as blonde or red hair. She also answered all my questions and was easy to talk with. I decided to go through with doing my first treatment and it was a lot better than expected. There's a package deal that includes 5 treatments which I booked. I also got a 10% discount for being a student which was a nice surprise. Mariko was amazing and talked me through each step and I think her techniques were so good which also made it not so painful. She explained both machines to me prior and did a sample test on herself before doing it on me. Most of the spots didn't even hurt, and the laser felt like hot air. The parts that stung it was really quick and she placed an ice pack right over which helped a lot. I did my armpits, brazilian, and lower legs and whole process took about an hour. She was very professional and I'm happy she was my laser tech. She also gave me some aloe in case I had itching afterwards, which I didn't, and sunscreen samples. Laser hair removal was definitely an interesting experience. The staff here is very friendly, however they don't do a great job of explaining how the treatment works. I went in expecting a 100% solution but in reality had about 30% of my hair growth reduced. Carrie is very approachable and reasonable about providing extra treatments if you need it. After a year of going in and not seeing the results I'd hoped for, I've realized that perhaps laser hair removal is just not for me. I cannot say enough good things about Smooth Skin laser!! First off, let me say that I am olive skin, with dark hair and dark eyebrows; if grown out, the hair on my legs looked like a man's! I have always been a waxer, and had looked into laser several years ago when I lived up in DC. I decided against it at that time b/c 1., it was very expensive up there; and 2., I was told that it might not be effective with my skin tone/hair consistency. But, on the recommendation of a friend, I set an appointment with Smooth Skin. The first appointment was just a consultation with Carrie; I love her! She was very candid with me and told me that she thought my hair quality would be susceptible to the laser BUT, it might take more than just 5 treatments (I was interested in a 5-session package they were offering at the time). I sincerely appreciated the honesty. Additionally, the cost of the treatments was completely reasonable; I did the math, and they laser treatments would pay for themselves in 14 months if I continued to wax!! So, I signed up and the results have been AMAZING!!! My hair growth was SIGNIFICANTLY reduced after just the first session (and in some areas didn't grow back at all); and now after 5 sessions, my legs look perfect - I don't have to worry about throwing on a dress for fear of hair on my legs. Based off the success of my legs, I have also signed up for my lip and my bikini - all showing great results after the first couple of treatments. I will also comment that it is NOT as painful as I thought it was going to be. Let's be honest - waxing is not fun or pleasant, and the laser is a bit uncomfortable. But, what would take 45-60 minutes with waxing is done in 15-20 minutes with the laser. So, all in all, I am completely satisfied with my experience at Smooth Skin laser. Both Carrie and Lexi are awesome; the prices are affordable (and dare I say cheap compared to NoVa!); and my results are fantastic!! If you're going to get your hair removed, you want to do it at a place where the people are experienced and friendly, so you know what you're getting into and how much you're going to pay. This is exactly what it's like at Smooth Skin Laser. The woman is very friendly and talks to you throughout the time to distract you from the pain, and her machine has a puff of cool air which really helps as well (not all machines have this feature.) She was far less expensive than the woman my mom went to, and so far her machine seems to be working more efficiently than the one my mom used as well. It's a great deal for the price, and if you find a place that's cheaper you'll probably still want to go here. If you pay less initially somewhere else, the machine might not be as good and you're going to have to pay for more treatments later. read more

I used to be one of those women who had the most unfortunate of body hair situations -- thick, dark, curly hairs that looked even worse after shaving or waxing due to severe ingrowns, which left marks and scars all over. This is absolutely the best possible place to get your hair removed. Not only was it in my opinion less painful than waxing, it's clean, quiet, and if there were anyone on earth you would want zapping your nether regions, this is the woman to do it. She's funny and warm it's ten time less awkward than you would imagine it. She did my whole first Brazilian treatment in under 5 minutes. I walked in at 11:05 and I got in my car at 11:23. She is obviously a complete expert at this! For permanent hair removal I will spend less then I would spend if I waxed 8 months out of the year! YAY! I'm a big fan of laser, having dark coarse hair, but this place leaves a little to be desired. While Carrie (the owner) is a delightful, fun lady, she talks non-stop during the procedure which would be fine if it didn't distract her immensely. On the several occasions I've been to her, she's missed hairs -- including big ones I've pointed out to her -- and zapped the same place twice (ouch!) because she was in the middle of an exciting story and not paying attention to what she was doing! As lovely as she is, I'd rather have a silent person who is fully focused on my skin and nothing else. Also, the cost for a touch-up went from $75 to $100 suddenly. A 33% increase in one year? Yikes! On the positive side, I will say the online appointment scheduler on their website is very convenient and they're pretty punctual with their appointments. read more
