The waiting area is very aesthetically pleasing and the person on the front desk warmly welcomed me. Unfortunately, I didn't have a great experience here. It wasn't particularly Dr. Wiley's fault, but I did feel completely rushed out of my appointment, but pressured to immediately put a card down before I could be seen by the tech who checked me in. I was seen for exactly 9 minutes. That's not to say Dr. Wiley wasn't thorough, but it felt like I was only good for dollar signs. As I said, I was not allowed to be seen unless I registered a credit card with them. As I only have a debit card, I requested before they charge my card if they could please call me. This did not happen. They charged me and didn't even email me a receipt. So when I followed up with them on the phone requesting a receipt to be sent via email, the conversation was rather hostile, until the person read in my notes that I had requested a call prior to being charged. They then became very apologetic, but unfortunately the previous customer service experience can't be erased. Again, this is why I felt like I was only good for dollar signs and won't be going back. 2.5 rounded down.

We came to an agreement on one and she starts taking my information; name, birthday, what I do for a living...then... my SSN?? I started to get nervous. She asked how much I made monthly and this is where I started to wake up. I asked if this was a loan process and she said they work with a 3rd party and this is just the stuff they require. I sat there while she typed and abruptly said "I actually think I'd like to stop this process, I didn't realize it was a loan type situation". She stopped and looked at me, said she had already submitted...claiming she didn't understand what I meant, it's just their process. I told her I had not signed anything therefore I'd like to stop. After having such a great experience I'm now going home frustrated and worried they ran my credit already without my knowledge. I feel set up and taken advantage of in my relaxed state. Reading reviews now I see I'm not the only one that has had this experience.

Review for Tips and Toes Nail Salon - April 2025…read more I visited Tips and Toes with my daughter for a mother-daughter day. We were looking forward to some quality time and self-care, and while the technicians were kind and the work itself was well done, I left the salon feeling taken advantage of due to the pricing and lack of transparency. Before going, I estimated the cost to be around $350, including tip--a generous allowance for what I expected. However, I was charged $467.31, including a 30% tip. I didn't have time to review the total immediately, as we had other appointments. Later, I returned to ask for an itemized receipt because the amount didn't feel right. Here's what was listed: * Daughter's gel pedicure - $70 * My full acrylic set with gel polish (hands) - $75 * Daughter's dip manicure - $65 * My full acrylic set (toes) - $60 * Classic pedicure add-on for my toes - $49 * Nail extension for daughter's dip manicure - $10 * Gel color add-on for my toes - $20 This brought the total for my toes alone to $129, despite the fact that I had already done all prep work myself the night before, including cutting cuticles and removing calluses. I simply wanted a full set of acrylics on my toes--not an additional $49 charge for a classic pedicure that wasn't requested. What's more, when I asked about pricing for future fill-ins, I was quoted $65 for hands and $110 for toes. I've never been charged anything close to that price for fill-ins on my toes in the past, and I've been getting my nails done for decades. At no point were prices posted anywhere in the salon or clearly communicated to us before services were rendered. If I had known that a full set on my toes would cost $129, I absolutely would have declined. That kind of expense was not foreseeable and, in my opinion, not clearly justified. The experience has left me feeling misled and disappointed. I believe in paying fairly for services, but customers deserve upfront transparency. I hope the salon considers posting visible pricing and being more communicative with clients about add-ons and their associated costs before starting services. I truly wanted to leave this salon feeling pampered and peaceful--but instead, I left with a sense of being taken advantage of. I'm sharing this in hopes that it encourages better practices for future clients.

I can't really say enough about my experience at SSL. About 2 years ago, I started lasering my underarms at another place and they were just fine. I happened to be out of town and my husband send me a promotion for SSL because he knew how enthused I was about the process. From the underarms, I went to the bikini and that was seriously life changing. I had waxed for years and while my skin was smooth, I still had some issues. With the laser...nothing, and what was even more amazing, when my children wanted to go to the pool, I was able to say, "Let's go!", without worrying about any grooming worries. In addition to the underarms and bikini, I have done my lower legs and back of my upper legs. I think I may need one or two more rounds before the legs are complete, but It so nice to have shave every few months. Every once in a while, I'll look down and say, "I guess it's time.", but that is rare. The hairs are so fine and far and few between. Carrie is so much fun to be around (even when she is lasering)...a very positive personality and a great distraction. And all of the ladies who have worked with her have been very nice. This is one, if not, the most necessary and amazing experiences. When I tell my friends about it, the only "negative" thing I ever say is, "Why didn't I do this sooner?". Had such a good experience here that I created a Yelp account just to review it. I loved everything about this office. Since I was in town only briefly, they were able to negotiate a very reasonable package deal to meet my needs, which was great. The office has a very nice environment, especially compared to other places that I have been which feel more medical/sterile. You can expect to find mood lighting and tasteful decor, essential oil diffusers, local oil paintings in the waiting area, candy dishes, and fresh water, and everything you need. You can book online, and they send text and email reminders for your appointment, which are very helpful. The laser machine is state of the art and powerful, and I had great results from it even as someone with very course dark hair. Carrie is a delight- super chatty and personable, so much so that it is a great distraction during treatment (which is good!). She's down to earth and genuine, and remembered small details about me and my life even after only one meeting. I really cannot imagine a better office, and I've been to several. Before I stumbled upon the Smooth Skin Laser family, I was so self conscious about the excess hair growth on my face. I would often not look people in the eye while talking to them, I would discretely cover my upper lip, and I overall felt alone in this hair battle. After my first *free* consultation with SSL, it felt like a huge weight had been lifted. I suddenly did not feel alone in this unwanted hair struggle. After years of waxing, plucking and bleaching dark hair, I can honestly say laser hair removal is the most ideal option. Carrie and Lexi (the laser techs) care more about their clients than just their "hair-removal-well-being", if you will. Not only are they kind, friendly, and warm, but they take the time to develop relationships with each individual. That trait alone makes a company great! I found out I was pregnant after paying for several treatments. Carrie worked with the physician on her staff to make sure the treatments were safe for both me and my baby. She was also great in making sure I was in comfortable positions throughout my pregnancy since you're limited once you get a larger baby bump! I had my first appointment at Smooth Skin Laser yesterday and I have to say that all of my expectations were exceeded. I bought a deal on cvillesaver and had no idea what to expect. When I called to make my appointment I spoke to the owner Carrie, who was very helpful with a sweet and bubbly personality. When I arrived I found the office to be nice, clean and cheerful. I filled out a form and had a very short wait (less than 5 minutes) for my appointment. Carrie (the owner) was my technician. She was excellent, very fast and thorough. Hello, When I first went into see Carrie I was feeling pretty overwhelmed with the excess hair on my face. It was getting coarser as my hormones were changing and I was getting older. This is an awesome establishment and Carrie and Lexi are both extremely friendly technicians that make you quickly feel comfortable in a personal situation - removing unwanted hair! I've been to another place that was more painful because they didn't have as top of the line machinery and more awkward in general. Carrie and Lexi are fun and will even have you laughing through the process. I would (and have) recommend this to anyone. The procedure is quick and easy, the facilities are bright, clean, and comfortable and the two ladies are so friendly! I can't say it wasn't painful, but Whitney did a great job of distracting me and taking breaks when necessary and it is way less painful than waxing. I LOVED my service with Carrie. I've had treatments at other locations in Charlottesville, but Carrie's machine is FAR better than the others. It blows out a coolant as it zaps the hair minimizing the pain. I just had my first underarm hair removal and there was NO pain at all. It was NOT what I was expecting. I've been to another place in town and Smooth Skin Laser is, BY FAR, the very very best! Carrie is such a delight, I can't even put it into words! The machine she uses, with its coolant spray after each "zap", makes such a difference. I went to one place in Charlottesville a few months ago and had red marks and scars for a week and a half before they healed! Went to Smooth Skin this morning and no red marks! He was the only masseuse available for the time I needed, I didn't have a preference. Parking can be a little limited if looking for free, but there's 2 paid public parking lots on the other side of the railroad tracks which is only a short walk away. They had a walk-in that ran late so the room I was going to be was occupied so I had to wait about 15mins past my appointment time, but the receptionist was kind. There's a room that's in the lobby area, which was mine and I was nervous about how loud it would be because there was also work being done on the railroad tracks which are right next to the building. They quickly turned over the sheets when the appointment before me was over. The overall massage was good, Vincent had different techniques than what I was used to that helped with my trigger points. I'm not sure if he ran out of time though or if this was just his style but he didn't massage my arms or neck area when I was laying on my back. He did spend a long time on my back though which was helpful because that's where most of my tension was. I also liked that he didn't do the exact same thing on each side, it felt truly customized to where my tension was and what my body needed. He used hot towels too, which were a nice touch to help relax my muscles. He also provided me some neck stretches I can do to help release tension. They have a lot of masseuses to choose from both women and men. Overall, I enjoyed my massage!

I didn't have any discomfort, she did a great job and I loved the outcome. She said they last about 6 weeks to which I was impressed by! I would definitely come back to do an upkeep of my lash lift.

She is someone who is super easy to talk to and someone whose expertise I trust. I'm new to getting eyelash extensions and I never knew how much goes into getting a good result. (For instance, she keeps an eye on the humidity of the room - who would have thought?) I also remember I had to get a headshot and she recommended dermaplaning to help make my makeup look more smooth and even (worked so well). In terms of facials, my face is literally glowing for days after an appointment. At times I can be wary of medical spas and skincare services because I feel like they want to push products to clients, but Charlotte has truly never made me feel that way. She recommends things that would be beneficial to my skin (most recently she clued me into a sale of a really nice herbal face wash at Target because I felt Cerave was making my face too oily). I recently went to Imagine Esthetics. The suites it is located in are really cute. When I walked in, it was so cool to see the other businesses around. For me personally, it feels great to be able to support small businesses and entrepreneurs. The treatment room itself is nicely decorated and very comfortable. I loved the steam treatments in between the facial components. As a long-time client, I cannot recommend Charlotte more highly.
